Lin Yu responded calmly, “Oh, okay.”
Lu Ziqing: “? Don’t you have any questions?”
Lin Yu nodded. “There’s nothing to ask. It must be for some reason—you need to put on a show for certain people. I get it.”
Just like when they visited Lu Ziqing’s grandparents before, acting all affectionate and inseparable, as if they were a newlywed couple.
After doing it so many times, Lin Yu couldn’t be bothered to ask anymore.
The Lu family had way too many nosy relatives; he couldn’t possibly keep up with all of them.
Anyway, he was just doing a job for money—consider it working overtime on the weekend.
Lu Ziqing’s face darkened. “Who told you it was for show?”
Lin Yu: “So, you just want to go out for fun but can’t find a friend, so you want me to accompany you?”
Fine, that was acceptable too.
Even though this wasn’t part of the contract, occasionally offering extra services might make the client think more highly of him.
Lu Ziqing’s face turned even darker. “Do I look like someone who has no friends?”
Lin Yu widened his eyes and looked at him. “Then just tell me what’s going on.”
Lu Ziqing: “……”
After a long silence, Lu Ziqing finally muttered, “Come if you want. Whatever.”
Lin Yu had noticed that Lu Ziqing’s temper had been getting stranger lately. He often said things that made no sense.
It wasn’t even his susceptibility period right now.
Why was his mood fluctuating so much?
Lin Yu, ever patient, said, “Alright, let’s go together. I never said I wouldn’t go… Wait a moment, let me check my weekend schedule. Hmm, I have a headquarters meeting on Saturday morning, an intercity exchange seminar in the afternoon, and on Sunday, I need to inspect a newly built factory in the northern district…”
He glanced at Lu Ziqing, whose face had suddenly darkened completely, and quickly added, “Saturday’s meeting is non-negotiable, but the Sunday visit isn’t confirmed yet. I can postpone it to next week.”
Lu Ziqing let out a huff and went back to his room.
Lin Yu wiped the sweat off his forehead, mentally calculating how much longer he had until he could return to headquarters.
Once Zhou Youyu’s case was settled, he could finally leave.
The days of serving the Young Master would have finally come to an end.
Once he completed this final task, his journey of working at the branch company would come to a perfect close.
Victory was just ahead. At this critical moment, as long as there were no mistakes, the future awaiting him would be one of promotions, salary raises, and boundless opportunities.
Thinking of this, Lin Yu silently cheered himself on.
“When Heaven is about to place a great responsibility on someone, it first tests their will, tires their body, and starves their flesh.”
Stay strong, Lin Yu. You’ve got this.
…..
Lu Ziqing had chosen the city’s most popular amusement park as the location.
Lin Yu’s family background was modest. As a child, he had only been to an amusement park on his birthday. But the small-town parks he visited only had simple rides like merry-go-rounds—nothing compared to this city’s amusement park.
The moment he stepped inside, Lin Yu’s eyes were drawn to the dazzling array of attractions.
Even though he was an adult, he still found himself slightly awestruck by the towering roller coasters and giant pendulum rides.
There was also an ice cream shop shaped like an oversized mushroom, its white cream-like roof dripping down to form the store’s signature decoration.
Lu Ziqing glanced at him and asked, “You don’t visit amusement parks often?”
Lin Yu shook his head. “My parents rarely took me out to play when I was little. Later, when I was in college, I spent my weekends either studying or working part-time.”
Feeling a bit embarrassed, he thought he must seem like a sheltered child.
“Then today is the perfect chance to make up for that,” Lu Ziqing said, buying a pretty vanilla ice cream cone and handing it to him. “Little guy, if you want anything, just tell Uncle—I’ll treat you.”
As they strolled through the park, girls would occasionally approach them with bright smiles, asking if they could take a photo together.
Lin Yu was a little confused.
Lu Ziqing didn’t get it either.
They later found out that the girls had mistaken them for amusement park NPCs.
Many amusement parks nowadays hired good-looking young men as NPCs to attract customers. Some wore casual clothes, while others dressed as vampires or other characters, randomly appearing throughout the park.
At first, Lin Yu patiently explained that he wasn’t an NPC—just a regular customer.
But after being approached too many times, he grew tired of explaining. In the end, he simply let them take pictures—one click, and it was over.
Lin Yu, caught in a cycle of endless photo requests, looked like he had words on the tip of his tongue but didn’t know how to say them. Helpless and a little overwhelmed, he seemed like a poor, unfortunate soul.
Lu Ziqing chuckled and teased him, “Didn’t see this coming, huh? Even on weekends, coming to an amusement park feels like work.”
Lin Yu sighed. “And I don’t even get paid…”
Lu Ziqing smirked. “So, how does this compare to working at the company?”
“The company is still better,” Lin Yu mumbled. “At least no one there tells me, ‘Hey, handsome, give us a smile!’”
The line for photos kept growing.
Eventually, Lin Yu could no longer keep smiling.
A young girl in the queue suddenly asked before their photo, “Hey, handsome, can I touch your abs?”
As she spoke, her hand tentatively reached toward his stomach.
Lin Yu froze. “Huh?”
Before he could react, Lu Ziqing suddenly said, “No!”
His voice was quick and firm, carrying a sharp edge.
The girl flinched, hurriedly pulling her hand back. “Oh… okay…”
Then, a guy standing behind her in line spoke up, “Aren’t all the NPCs here allowed to be touched? Why not you?”
“I’m not an NPC,” Lin Yu explained. “I’m just here for fun like you. You guys got the wrong idea.”
The guy scoffed. “Then why are you taking pictures with people? I waited in line for nothing.”
Lin Yu frowned slightly.
They were surrounded by a dense crowd. Even though he had already explained, the people around them showed no signs of dispersing.
Just then, a loud voice called out from the back of the crowd:
“Lin Yu!”
Lin Yu looked up.
To his surprise, someone he never expected to see here was waving at him. “Hurry up and get out of there! You guys are blocking the walkway!”
It was Liu Yuwen.
Liu Yuwen had even called over the park’s security guards. After a few minutes of clearing the way, the crowd finally dispersed.
“You guys nearly caused a traffic jam,” Liu Yuwen said with a grin as they walked to a quieter area. “From a distance, I saw a crowd forming and figured it must be another good-looking NPC getting swarmed. But when I took a closer look, I realized it was you.”
Lin Yu wiped the sweat off his forehead. “It’s a long story… We were just here to have fun. You come to amusement parks often?”
It was unexpected.
Liu Yuwen never seemed like the type to enjoy these things. His demeanor and attire always carried an air of refined elegance. His social media posts were mostly about exhibitions, paintings, and calligraphy.
“I come when I’m in a bad mood,” Liu Yuwen said. “I have an annual pass, so I stop by whenever.”
He cast a sidelong glance at Lu Ziqing but directed his next words at Lin Yu: “Still, I never would’ve thought—Director Lin, you sure have a close relationship with your subordinates. Spending weekends at the amusement park together?”
Lin Yu felt a little guilty and mumbled vaguely, “We just finished a project, so we decided to hang out.”
Lu Ziqing stayed silent, staring ahead.
Trying to change the subject, Lin Yu asked, “Were those people serious? NPCs here really let people touch their abs?”
Liu Yuwen nodded. “Yeah, it’s one of the park’s gimmicks to attract customers. Beauty sells, after all.”
Lin Yu asked curiously, “Since you come here often, have you ever touched an NPC’s abs?”
Liu Yuwen paused for a moment. “…Yeah.”
Lin Yu’s interest was piqued. “Can you show me where to find them?”
He was just curious—he wanted to see what the NPCs looked like and whether their abs were really that impressive.
But then, both Liu Yuwen and Lu Ziqing suddenly turned to look at him at the same time.
Lin Yu didn’t notice. He was still focused on Liu Yuwen. “Where can I find them? Do they appear in specific areas, or is it just random encounters?”
Liu Yuwen didn’t say anything. Instead, he turned to Lu Ziqing with a knowing smile.
Lin Yu, confused, followed his gaze and looked at Lu Ziqing.
“What’s wrong?”
“…Nothing,” Lu Ziqing lowered his eyes, concealing the cold glint in them. “The most important thing is to have fun when you’re out. Whatever you want to do, how could I possibly stop you?”
