MMLDU Chapter 40

Can't you tell? I'm doing a wall slam.

Suddenly, Yan Han’s wheelchair moved, slowly closing the distance between him and Pei Lang.

Although he tilted his head slightly, his presence was overwhelming and the sense of pressure was intense. Pei Lang’s heart tightened. He dumbly watched as Yan Han got closer. He was a powerful figure. He couldn’t let himself forget Yan Han’s status just because of the little chibi character on his shoulder.

Pei Lang nervously stepped back, but the other party showed no sign of stopping. Instead, Yan Han’s gaze became sharper, as though hunting prey.

Back and forth they went, and Pei Lang couldn’t figure out for the life of him what had made Yan Han angry. He was cornered, with nowhere to retreat, and only then did the wheelchair stop. As Pei Lang stood there, the wheelchair blocked the way completely. Even though he had faced many challenges in his life, for the first time, Pei Lang felt fear in this strange world.

“Y-Yan… Mr. Yan…” His throat tightened, and his heart raced. He couldn’t get a full sentence out, and his voice trembled. Despite his best attempt to mask his fear, his beautiful eyes betrayed it.

He didn’t even dare look directly at Yan Han’s face; instead, he let his gaze fall on his shoulder, where the little chibi was equally serious, its face taut as it cornered the little fox.

Suddenly, Yan Han’s hand slammed against the wall, causing Pei Lang’s eyelids to flutter. He quickly shut his eyes. The air went still, and all he could hear was the sound of his own thunderous heartbeat. Seconds seemed to stretch into a century. Finally, Pei Lang nervously opened his eyes.

Yan Han furrowed his brows, his face darkening. He pressed one hand on the wall beside Pei Lang’s waist and stayed still in that posture.

Pei Lang didn’t understand what was going on. It didn’t seem like Yan Han was about to hit him, but he couldn’t figure it out.

“Mr. Yan… what… what are you doing…?” After holding his breath, Pei Lang finally managed to say a somewhat complete sentence.

Yan Han’s expression darkened even more as soon as the words left Pei Lang’s mouth, his eyes flashing with a hint of grievance.

“Can’t you tell? I’m doing a wall slam.”

“Wall… wall slam?” This time, it was Pei Lang’s turn to be stunned.

What do I do with a wall slam?

The reason Yan Han’s face looked so bad was because this wall slam was nothing like the one in the book. Sitting in a wheelchair, he could only place his hand on Pei Lang’s side waist, which didn’t give any sense of pressure at all. Not only did it fail to make anyone blush or feel their heart race, but it also left them completely confused.

“Are you practicing on me?” He must have wanted to flirt with Su Jia but was afraid of not having enough experience, so he practiced on me first. Mr. Yan is really thorough.

After figuring out the situation, Pei Lang let out a sigh of relief, his heartbeat slowly returning to normal.

“Practicing?” Yan Han moved back a little, his expression returning to normal.

“Yeah, don’t you like Su Jia? If you want to pursue him, I can help you. I have experience with this,” Pei Lang said confidently.

“You have experience? Experience in chasing Yan Xiuyuan?” Yan Han choked on his own breath, almost suffocating himself.

Pei Lang’s words were like two daggers at once.

When did he ever show any interest in Su Jia? What’s more, Pei Lang claimed he had experience! Yan Han didn’t dare to learn from Pei Lang’s experience with chasing Yan Xiuyuan. Of course, that wasn’t the point. The point was that the person he liked was about to teach him how to chase someone else. No normal man could tolerate that.

Yan Han almost wanted to pull him over, forcefully open his head, and see what kind of chaos was inside this crafty brain.

“Of course not,” Pei Lang said proudly, lifting his chin. His experience came from acting in numerous TV dramas. When the shows aired, the audience often said they felt flirty, so it seemed the TV drama tactics were still quite popular.

“My crush isn’t Su Jia. Keep talking nonsense, and I can’t promise I won’t do something,” Yan Han said coldly, throwing one last sentence before leaving.

Pei Lang, still confused, followed him downstairs. The two of them ate together, and then Yan Han took him to buy clothes.

While shopping at the mall, Yan Han took him to a luxury brand store and bought all the clothes he thought would suit Pei Lang without batting an eye. He expected Pei Lang to be dumbfounded and extremely grateful, but to his surprise, Pei Lang was indifferent and even looked down on the styles he had chosen.

Yan Han was so angry he nearly had a heart attack, feeling extremely frustrated.

The idea that buying things for the person you like would enhance your relationship was clearly a lie.

In Yan Han’s view, Pei Lang came from humble beginnings, never went to university, and started working at a young age. When he was chasing Yan Xiuyuan, he didn’t even have any decent clothes, so he must have never worn any luxury brands.

He didn’t know that the person in front of him was not the Pei Lang he understood, but another Pei Lang—the best actor in the entertainment industry from another world. He had high pay, exceptional acting skills, and many talents. When attending events, luxury brands competed to have him wear their clothes.

As for the clothes Yan Han bought today, Pei Lang felt there were too many, more than he could wear. But he didn’t dare refuse because he could tell that Yan Han was angry today.

Yan Han said he didn’t like Su Jia, but Pei Lang didn’t know if it was true. If it was… then the couple he was supporting had just broken up.

It was truly heartbreaking.

After they’d bought enough, they got into the car. Pei Lang, looking helplessly at the pile of packages, asked, “Mr. Yan, you picked so many. Which one should I wear for tomorrow’s banquet?”

“These are your daily clothes. The outfit for tomorrow’s banquet has already been custom-made and will be delivered in the morning,” Yan Han replied in a stiff tone as if he wanted to use words to hit the clueless little fox.

In that case, there really wasn’t any need to buy these clothes at all.

In the filming crew, he mostly wore costumes. He rarely wore regular clothes. And during breaks, he preferred to stay at home.

“What about your future plans?” Yan Han asked, indirectly trying to find out Pei Lang’s preferences, aiming to flatter him and gradually win him over.

“Future plans… hmm, none,” Pei Lang replied. If it had been before, he would have said something like ‘to act well and become the most powerful actor in the entertainment industry, to challenge different roles,’ and so on. But ever since that accident, his future plans had changed. “Tomorrow and accidents— I don’t know which will come first, so I haven’t thought about the future in the long term. But I do have some small goals, like performing well in the current role I have, appreciating the people who care for me, and finding ways to cure Mr. Yan’s leg.”

Yan Han fell silent. What Pei Lang said sounded simple, but in practice, it was difficult. It was the life he desired but couldn’t have.

He had to plan every step ahead of time; otherwise, one wrong step could lead to an abyss.

“And you, Mr. Yan?” After saying so much, Pei Lang noticed Yan Han was silent and asked in return.

“Survive.” Yan Han’s reply was brief, but it made Pei Lang pause, momentarily stunned.

Only by surviving can there be endless possibilities. His identity destined him not to live a simple life.

Pei Lang’s heart tightened as if pricked by a needle. He glanced at Yan Han’s legs, remembering that the accident back then must have been a life-or-death situation. So for Yan Han, surviving was of the utmost importance.

This topic ended there.

Back at the villa, Pei Lang started a live-stream. He sang two songs before logging off. Of course, it wasn’t long before he dominated the trending searches. His songs were recorded and spread across various platforms, maintaining high popularity.

The higher the popularity, the greater the risk of exposure. In order to protect the special status of the website, Pei Lang decided to keep his identity hidden and stay undercover.

The announcement of Pei Ziqing and Yan Xiuyuan’s engagement had been made a week ago, receiving well-wishes from all over the internet. Pei Lang was once again dragged into the spotlight. He hadn’t paid much attention due to his busy filming schedule. Lu Lu didn’t bring it up either, not wanting to make Pei Lang sad. Fortunately, the trending topic soon faded.

It faded faster than usual. Many people didn’t even realize what had happened.

Some speculated that Yan Xiuyuan couldn’t afford to lose face, so he used his power to remove the trending topic, which only fueled the mocking of Pei Lang behind the scenes.

The engagement banquet was set for the evening. Pei Lang and Yan Han spent a peaceful afternoon at the villa until Aunt Lin brought him a suit to change into.

The luxurious water blue suit was well-crafted, with details that complemented his skin tone. When he put it on, it looked like a gemstone embedded in the sea—radiant and mysterious. Yan Han, on the other hand, swapped his usual black suit for a white one. The color wasn’t extravagant, but Yan Han’s outstanding temperament made it stand out, captivating anyone who saw it.

When the two of them stepped out of their rooms, they were both struck by each other’s appearance. They gazed at each other from a distance, while Aunt Lin stood silently to the side, looking from one to the other.

Their outfits, though vastly different in color, complemented each other perfectly. The combination of simplicity and elegance brought a timeless beauty, with small details that were subtly similar, almost resembling couple’s attire.

Aunt Lin had never known what role Pei Lang played in the villa. Initially, she didn’t like him. But after seeing that he was different from the rumors, she accepted him as a son. Since she learned he would accompany Yan Han to the Yan family’s banquet, though she didn’t say it outright, she had a rough idea of what was going on.

Seeing these two extremely well-matched individuals now, she couldn’t help but feel moved, her nose tingling with emotion.

“Mr. Yan, it’s about time,” Aunt Lin gently reminded as she noticed the scene was perfect.

“Push me out,” Yan Han spoke to Pei Lang. Pei Lang nodded and walked over. He placed his hands on the back of the wheelchair and gently pushed Yan Han out the door.

It was still Su Jia who was driving. They got into the car and headed toward the unfamiliar street—the Yan family’s old residence, which had become the subject of much gossip.

In fact, the banquet was just a casual gathering of two families for a meal. Regardless of whether Pei Lang was there as Yan Han’s companion or as Pei Ziqing’s older brother, he should have attended.

However, the Pei family hadn’t mentioned anything to him.

The Yan family’s old mansion was vast. Su Jia dropped them off at the door and left, leaving them to walk the rest of the way on foot. Pei Lang pushed Yan Han step by step, unbothered by the gaze of others, looking straight ahead until they entered the hall.

They were the last to arrive, which caused some displeasure from certain people. “Brother’s company is so busy? You could still be late for such an important event. Having difficulty walking is no excuse. Knowing his own situation, he should have left earlier.”

The speaker was a middle-aged man around fifty years old, with a booming voice. Dressed in a suit and exuding a commanding presence, he was none other than Yan Han’s older brother, Yan Tong.

“Big Brother.” Yan Han called out indifferently, not even sparing a glance, as he directly led Pei Lang toward the elder Yan.

Old Master Yan was in his seventies, frail and with a kind, benevolent face. However, his murky eyes commanded respect, making people not dare to underestimate him.

“Father,” Yan Han greeted his relative simply, then introduced Pei Lang. “I brought Lang Lang to meet you.”

Pei Lang understood that he needed to play along with Yan Han’s act. He obediently greeted, “Father.”

Not only was it Yan Han, but even Old Master Yan seemed taken aback. He had allowed Pei Lang into the Yan family merely for the sake of bringing joy to the household, never truly seeing him as a part of the Yan family. Yet, the way Pei Lang addressed him, with such a proper demeanor, left him momentarily stunned.

Yan Han glanced at Pei Lang, the corner of his mouth lifting ever so slightly.

Old Master Yan was an incredibly sharp person. He keenly caught the subtle smile on his son’s face. His gaze toward Pei Lang instantly shifted, as if he were looking at a precious gem.
