MMLDU Chapter 57

Bitten by a mad dog.

“I’ve thought about it seriously. I’ve decided not to marry Pei Ziqing. I don’t love him at all.” Yan Xiuyuan hadn’t changed the way he addressed him. He stepped closer to Pei Lang, reaching out to grab his arm. Pei Lang dodged, but Yan Xiuyuan wasn’t discouraged.

The set was filled with curious eyes. Yan Xiuyuan’s arrival ignited everyone’s gossiping spirit. Though pretending to work, they couldn’t help but sneak glances, speculating about why he had come to see Pei Lang.

Even though Pei Lang’s reputation was clean now, who could guarantee that the previous rumors were entirely false? The old saying “pictures don’t lie” seemed to apply. Perhaps Pei Lang had just turned over a new leaf. Now, the other person involved in the rumors had shown up in person—how could the spectators not whisper?

Though Pei Lang grew tense under their gazes, he couldn’t simply take Yan Xiuyuan elsewhere. That would only fuel the rumors further. Thankfully, while everyone was gossiping, they didn’t dare approach too closely. From a distance, no one could hear their conversation.

“I can’t force myself to marry someone I don’t love. The person I like now is you.” Yan Xiuyuan’s days had been consumed by torment. Pei Lang occupied his every thought. Even knowing Pei Lang was his uncle’s person, he couldn’t let go. Unwilling to accept defeat, he’d sought him out. “I was a bastard before. I regret it. I truly do.”

“You must marry Pei Ziqing. No matter how you feel now, you have to be together.”

Pei Lang’s words were his honest feelings. For Yan Xiuyuan, however, they sounded like a desperate attempt to push him away. “Must”? Even his father couldn’t force him to marry someone, so what gave Pei Lang the right?

Was he really so desperate to cut ties with him?

Yan Xiuyuan’s emotions, which had been barely restrained, erupted in an instant. “You’re Uncle’s person, but does that mean I’m not even allowed to like you? Why can’t you see how hard I’m trying to make things right? I’ve humbled myself to come to you, and this is how you treat me! Am I really that bad? I’m not worse than that cold, crippled man!”

Pei Lang, now thoroughly irritated, pushed Yan Xiuyuan aside and rubbed his temples. “You said it yourself—you can’t force yourself to marry someone you don’t love. What about me? I don’t like you. What do you think you’re doing, pestering me like this?”

“I have a way—a way to make you fall in love with me. Just give me a chance. Please, trust me!” Yan Xiuyuan declared desperately before abruptly pulling Pei Lang into an embrace. Without warning, he bit down hard on Pei Lang’s neck.

The sharp pain snapped the last of Pei Lang’s patience. He broke free, delivering a fierce kick that sent Yan Xiuyuan stumbling back. Then, without hesitation, he slapped him hard across the face.

Yan Xiuyuan was completely out of control. If Pei Lang didn’t put an end to this madness now, there was no telling how long the harassment would last—or when he could complete the mission he was tasked with.

He really was like a beast—his bite was brutal. A deep, bloody mark appeared on Pei Lang’s neck, the blood seeping down into his collar. The pain was sharp, but Pei Lang clenched his teeth, refusing to make a sound.

The distant staff members were stunned by what they saw. It was evident that Yan Xiuyuan was the one initiating this mess.

The bite mark on Pei Lang’s neck was shocking, vivid, and impossible to ignore. It would interfere with the filming. If Director Jin found out, there would undoubtedly be hell to pay.

“Teacher Pei, are you okay?” The makeup artist rushed over, visibly panicked. He was responsible for Pei Lang’s appearance. Covering up such a noticeable wound for the next scenes would be a significant challenge.

Pei Lang waved him off, signaling for him to stay back.

Everyone could tell—Pei Lang was furious.

Yan Xiuyuan, after being slapped, momentarily stopped his outburst. His eyes, however, were filled with a dangerous intensity, as if he were ready to tear Pei Lang apart at any moment. Pei Lang instinctively stayed alert, prepared to defend himself.

Seething, Pei Lang pulled out his phone and called Yan Han. “You said, no matter how big of a mess I make, you’ll clean it up. Was that true?”

Yan Han’s tone turned icy as he answered, as though he already guessed something was wrong. “It’s true.”

Hearing the confirmation, Pei Lang exhaled in relief. “Good. Then get ready to clean up this one!”

“What are you planning to do?” Yan Han demanded, his voice filled with urgency. He was clearly worried about what trouble Pei Lang might be facing.

“He crossed the line. I’ve decided to teach your nephew a lesson for you!” Pei Lang declared before hanging up on Yan Han. Tossing his phone aside, he strode over to the props assistant and grabbed the prop sword—the intricate and imposing blade that symbolized Wen Yan’s character. Though it was a prop and not sharp, it could still cause pain if struck with enough force.

At that moment, Pei Lang seemed possessed by a darkened version of Wen Yan himself. Dressed in a flowing robe with his long black hair cascading to his waist, he exuded an aura of fierce determination. Dragging the sword with a commanding presence, he turned toward Yan Xiuyuan and unleashed a stunning sequence of sword strikes, catching him completely off guard.

There were no harnesses, no filming aids—just Pei Lang in his element. His swordsmanship was flawless, his movements fluid and captivating. Those watching froze, mesmerized, unable to step in and stop the clash between the dashing period-drama swordsman and the bewildered man in a modern suit.

Pei Lang’s swordplay wasn’t mere theatrical mimicry—it was precise and effective. Yan Xiuyuan had no chance to counter, retreating step by step under the onslaught. Though the sword couldn’t cut, its strikes landed with force, leaving Yan Xiuyuan’s tailored suit in disarray and his skin undoubtedly bruised. He cried out in pain, utterly at Pei Lang’s mercy.

“Who do you think you are? Just because you claim to like me, I’m supposed to reciprocate?”

“If you weren’t my junior, I would have dealt with you long ago.”

“Bold enough to push your luck? To be honest, Pei Ziqing isn’t much of a catch, but they’re more than good enough for you.”

“I tried reasoning with you, but you didn’t listen. You forced me to take action, and here we are. From now on, if you dare say anything disgusting, I’ll beat you down every single time.”

Pei Lang’s anger burned bright, fueled by both old grievances and new offenses. Yan Xiuyuan’s behavior was revolting. Pei Lang had never confronted him head-on before. This time, he let it all out. With Yan Han backing him, there was no need to hold back.

Meanwhile, Yan Han, realizing the situation was spiraling, immediately called Director Jin, who rushed to the set. Upon arrival, he found Pei Lang executing a masterful sword routine, leaving Yan Xiuyuan utterly defeated. Rather than intervening, Director Jin’s eyes gleamed with admiration, his respect for Pei Lang growing even further.

Zhong Yixiao and Liu Ran also arrived on the scene, exchanging stunned glances. Uncertain of the situation, they stood by and watched the spectacle unfold.

Not that they could have helped—this wasn’t a fight so much as a one-sided beatdown. When Pei Lang finally ended it with a sharp kick, sending Yan Xiuyuan sprawling to the ground and unable to rise, the battle was over. Pei Lang stood tall and imposing, his sword pointed at the ground, radiating unshakable dominance.

The weather was hot. Pei Lang was drenched in sweat. The sun made his skin glisten with beads of sweat, giving him a unique kind of beauty. When Lu Lu returned with lunch and saw the scene, he was so shocked that he dropped the food. He hurried over to check the wound on Pei Lang’s neck.

“Brother Lang, you’re hurt! Come on, let’s disinfect it first!”

“It’s fine, it doesn’t hurt.” Pei Lang coldly stared at Yan Xiuyuan, still struggling to get up. Turning around, he noticed a crowd had gathered, including the director. He suddenly felt embarrassed and humiliated, all because of Yan Xiuyuan.

Yan Xiuyuan, still defiant, gritted his teeth and sat up. “I won’t give up.”

Pei Lang ignored him and went to find Director Jin. “Sorry, Director, I caused trouble for the crew.”

When Director Jin saw the bite marks on Pei Lang’s neck, his eyelids twitched. This was Yan Han’s precious one, and now he had been bullied on set. There was no way he could blame Pei Lang. “It’s fine, go treat your wound first. I’ll give you a few days off. Come back when it’s healed. Don’t worry, today’s incident won’t be spread. Just focus on recovering.”

Everyone on set knew about Director Jin’s favoritism toward Pei Lang.

It wasn’t just because of Yan Han; he genuinely valued Pei Lang. He couldn’t bear to say anything harsh, especially since Pei Lang was so professional. Such incidents affecting the filming weren’t intentional on his part.

Moreover, Pei Lang’s scenes were few at the moment, so he wasn’t busy. Taking time off to rest at home wasn’t a problem.

“Thank you, Director. I’ll go back now.” After changing out of his costume and removing the wig, Pei Lang disinfected his wound quickly and headed back to the hotel with Lu Lu.

Originally, they could have enjoyed a nice meal, but after being bitten by the mad dog Yan Xiuyuan, he had to settle for something light. Lu Lu said they should be careful with food to avoid scarring.

Coincidentally, Yan Han arrived just as they were eating. Lu Lu was shocked, but Pei Lang remained calm and greeted him casually, “You’re here.”

Yan Han stared at Lu Lu, making him uneasy. He quickly took his own plate and left. Though Yan Han was intimidating, Lu Lu noticed that Pei Lang wasn’t afraid of him, so there shouldn’t be a problem with them being alone together.

“Does it hurt?” Yan Han’s face was cold as he looked at the wound on Pei Lang’s neck and asked.

Although the wound was shocking and still bleeding, it was just a superficial injury. With some disinfection and rest, it would heal. The summer heat made bandages counterproductive, as they weren’t breathable and could hinder the healing process, potentially leading to infection.

“It doesn’t hurt.” For some reason, Pei Lang felt a wave of undeserved grievance, his tone soft, making it hard not to want to comfort him.

Without needing to ask, Yan Han already guessed who was behind the incident. That brat had tried to make advances on Pei Lang and even dared to lay hands on him—he needed to be taught a lesson. Yan Han was heartbroken, gently touching the reddened skin around the wound. Pei Lang felt both a sting and an itch and instinctively pulled away. “I went a bit too far when I beat him. Don’t blame me; he started it.”

Yan Han saw how much Yan Xiuyuan’s feelings for Pei Lang were growing but was furious at how bold the brat had become—blatantly provoking him. Yan Han realized that Pei Lang’s radiance was attracting attention, even from Yan Xiuyuan. He wondered how many others would fall for Pei Lang.

Even though they were married, their contract was still in effect. As long as Pei Lang didn’t love him, once the time was up, they could terminate the marriage by pulling out the contract. If Pei Lang fell for someone else during the contract, it would be too late.

“I’ll handle this. If he harasses you again, beat him to a pulp. Don’t worry about my face.” Yan Han couldn’t bear to blame Pei Lang; he was too heartbroken to even consider it.

Just thinking about Yan Xiuyuan biting Pei Lang’s neck made Yan Han want to kill him. That was his wife1I was thinking of changing it to husband. However, the author really used “老婆(laopo)” which means wife in English.. He could barely bring himself to touch him, let alone do anything forceful. He only dared to sneak a kiss on his lips.

Pei Lang was surprised. “You knew?”

“Do you think there’s anything that can be hidden from me?” After this incident, Yan Han felt a sense of urgency. Pei Lang smiled but didn’t respond. Of course, nothing could be hidden from him. Pei Lang hadn’t been trying to hide it either.

“Come on, let’s go home. I’ll have Aunt Lin cook something nice for you.” Pei Lang had been eating too lightly, lacking in nutrition. Yan Han couldn’t stand it.

With Director Jin giving him time off, Pei Lang hadn’t planned to stay in the hotel to recuperate. He called Lu Lu to say he was going home, packed a few things, and then left with Yan Han.

Lu Lu couldn’t understand how Pei Lang got involved with Yan Han, and it seemed like their relationship was quite good. But if he couldn’t figure it out, then he decided not to think about it anymore. Since Pei Lang was on leave, he was also on leave. He packed up his things and left as well.

From what I’ve seen, it’s quite common for shous to be called the wife (at least in Chinese novels), so I think the author used it intentionally.
