MMLDU Chapter 60

The little fox is actually me.

Yan Han was exceptionally handsome, with a cold and striking face, a presence that was both breathtaking and intimidating. He sat upright in a wheelchair, his posture relaxed yet formal, with slight fatigue on his face, his eyes dark and deep, showing no sign of having not slept well.

If not for the little chibi on his shoulder, perhaps Pei Lang would have seen him like anyone else.

However, on Yan Han’s shoulder, the fox had changed overnight.

It had become two beings…

To be precise, it was still one person and one fox. The small red fox had transformed into a human but still retained fox ears and a tail. When standing, it was only slightly shorter than the chibi Yan Han.

Since coming into this world, a series of mind-bending events had followed. The transformation of the little fox into a human was not the most shocking part. What really stunned Pei Lang was that the small, shrunken version of the face was exactly the same as his own.

What was even more terrifying was that Yan Han had bitten into the soft face of the fox, playing with its sensitive, cute ears as if he couldn’t let go.

Somehow, Pei Lang’s face instantly flushed, as if he had been teased.

No, the bubble is Mr. Yan’s inner world. In his heart, am I a fox? And… he actually bit my face? What does that mean?

Realizing this, Pei Lang lost his composure.

Yan Han watched as Pei Lang went from shock to disbelief, a suspicious red blush creeping up his face.

“What’s wrong?”

Yan Han, usually as steady as a rock, couldn’t help but look down to check if there was something strange about himself.

While washing his face earlier, he had been thinking about the sensation of Pei Lang’s waist from last night. He didn’t dare act on it in reality, but a little fantasy was harmless. That was how the scene of him biting the fox’s face had played out.

Pei Lang snapped back to reality and, for once, flustered, quickly placed the breakfast on the table.

“It’s… it’s nothing. I’ve brought breakfast. Eat, then you can sleep.”

“Mm.” Yan Han controlled his wheelchair and slowly began to eat, while Pei Lang stood by, his gaze fixed on Yan Han’s shoulder as if trying to figure something out.

“I’ve noticed you like to stare at my shoulder. Is there something strange about it?” Before, I didn’t think much of it, but today, Pei Lang’s gaze was unusually bold. Yan Han couldn’t ignore it even if he tried.

Pei Lang quickly denied it. “There’s nothing strange!” Realizing his overreaction, he quickly adjusted his demeanor. By this point, Yan Han had nearly finished eating. Pei Lang’s confusion grew stronger. Eventually, he couldn’t help but ask, “Uh… can I ask you something?”

“Go ahead!” Yan Han could tell Pei Lang had something on his mind. Seeing Pei Lang ask so seriously, Yan Han also felt a little nervous, thinking that he might have been caught for sneaking around yesterday. He was so scared he didn’t even dare to breathe.

Pei Lang was very serious and very focused. “If you were to compare me to an animal, what do you think I would be?”

Isn’t this question too obvious!?

Pei Lang was panicking inside, but his eyes were full of anticipation.

Yan Han straightened his mouth. A glance from him seemed to almost see right through Pei Lang. But, he couldn’t understand why Pei Lang would ask such a question. The look of expectation in his eyes made him answer honestly. “A fox.”

As expected…

“Ah, okay… I got it. Well, I’m going downstairs to eat now. Remember to rest,” Pei Lang said and then rushed off in a blur.

He had too many things to process.

Thinking back, when that fox appeared, Pei Lang realized that Yan Han was acting strange. He thought Yan Han simply liked foxes. When he went to the pet store to buy one, Yan Han looked disgusted. It turns out, the fox in his heart wasn’t just an animal.

The little fox… is me!!!

Yan Han often hugs and kisses the fox. After reading Fox Raising Guide, he actively offers to feed him with vegetables and gets sulky when refused. He also proactively helps, provides resources, and publicly announces their marriage within the family. Using his father’s inspection as an excuse, he even tricks him into calling him “husband”.

Pei Lang’s mind had been in a mess earlier, but once a clear thread appeared, everything suddenly made sense. All the clues fell into place. In the end, Pei Lang came to an incredible and bold conclusion.

He can’t possibly… like me, can he!?

Sitting at the dinner table, it was the first time Pei Lang felt no appetite. His facial expression was full of emotions. Aunt Lin, watching him, felt a deep sympathy. She thought it was because of the injury preventing him from eating and quietly complained, “Mr. Yan likes you, but he shouldn’t be so careless. Look at your neck, who knows when it’ll heal.”

Yan Han, as the employer, was being scolded by Aunt Lin.

Pei Lang heard it clearly. “What!? You mean, Mr. Yan likes me?”

“Isn’t that obvious?” Aunt Lin was surprised, thinking they had already gotten together, which was why things got a bit out of hand, resulting in the neck injury. But it seems that wasn’t the case. Had she said something wrong?

Well, he had already guessed this earlier, and now it was just confirmed.

Actually, Yan Han had hinted many times and even did a wall slam once. The situation was so awkward, though, that Pei Lang didn’t want to recall how foolish he looked back then. But in the original story, the two of them had never had romantic feelings for each other, right? No, even Yan Xiuyuan can change. The main plot had already deviated. What more for a subplot?

So… what about me? Do I like him? Although those edited and fake pictures of him with men were disgusting, if the men were Yan Han, it wouldn’t be impossible.

No, no, the word “like” has so many meanings. It doesn’t necessarily mean love. Maybe… he just wants to turn me into a pet. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be keeping me in his heart like this. This is clearly something you do for a pet.

If I had a cute little kitten, I would also like to kiss and hug it. Yes, that must be it. Mr. Yan has someone special in his heart; how could he like me?

It’s all fake. It must be fake…

Pei Lang kept brainwashing himself, ate a little, and went back to his room. He wanted to sleep and rest, but his mind was filled with Yan Han. Later, feeling like he couldn’t take it anymore, he called Pei Ziqing and arranged to meet up.

The meeting took place in a cafe. Taking advantage of Yan Han’s break, Pei Lang left the house early and arrived ahead of time. It wasn’t long before Pei Ziqing showed up.

Both of them were dressed securely. Only after entering the private room did they remove their disguises.

“Didn’t sleep well? Took care of Yan Xiuyuan, huh?” Pei Lang took a sip of coffee, noticing Pei Ziqing’s haggard appearance.

“How do you know Xiuyuan was hurt?” Pei Ziqing became alert. He no longer had to pretend. He directly showed his malicious side. “You’re still obsessed with him, secretly investigating him!”

“You’re mistaken. To me, he’s nothing but a mad dog.” In contrast, Pei Lang remained calm, his gentle demeanor exuding control, not to be underestimated. “The injury on him was caused by me.”

“What did you say?!” Pei Ziqing was shocked, then stood up as if ready to attack. “He’s my man! How dare you—”

“A mad dog that bit my neck. Don’t you think I had every right to hit him?” Pei Lang smiled, unbuttoning his shirt to reveal the wound. Pei Ziqing couldn’t believe it. Fights were one thing, but biting someone’s neck didn’t seem like a proper fight.

Then, Pei Lang played a recording—the one where Yan Xiuyuan confessed to him. Yan Xiuyuan said that if Pei Lang was willing to divorce, he would do anything to take him away, even breaking off their engagement. Pei Ziqing’s face turned paler and paler as he listened. By the end, he sat back down, completely drained.

The recording abruptly stopped. It took Pei Ziqing a long time to regain his senses. His eyes filled with tears as he gave a bitter laugh. “So, you came here to gloat? Back then, he ignored you, and now, he loves you but can’t have you. You’re showing off that you’re better and more attractive than me? Heh, haha~~ Pei Lang, you really have changed a lot. I’m impressed.”

“You’re wrong. I came here today to tell you that your relationship is in crisis and this mad dog has been bothering me, which has been very troublesome. So I’ve decided to help you both.”

Pei Ziqing was stunned. “What did you say?”

Pei Lang calmly sipped his coffee. It tasted good, and he smiled as he did. His demeanor contrasted sharply with Pei Ziqing’s, making the latter feel very uncomfortable.

It seemed like no matter how hard he tried or how much he climbed, he was just the illegitimate child of a mistress, forever struggling under Pei Lang’s spotlight. Outwardly, everything seemed glamorous, but inside, he was filled with madness. Pei Lang had everything. He wanted to take it all away, no matter the cost.

Now, Pei Lang wasn’t competing with him but even offering help. Was this charity!? “Xiuyuan’s first love was me. You were the one who seduced him and ruined it. Now, you’ve stolen his soul and then act like you’re offering him back to me, Pei Lang… I used to think you were stupid, but now I think you’re hypocritical. You’re no different from me.”

Indeed, Yan Xiuyuan had first liked Pei Ziqing and the original owner had used a competitive approach to seduce him. But the original owner had paid the price—his reputation was ruined, and he was despised all over the internet.

Later, Pei Lang kept his distance. But it was Yan Xiuyuan who wouldn’t let go and inexplicably began to cling to him.

Pei Lang sighed, feeling helpless. “I did seduce him first, but didn’t you two use my reputation for marketing? It’s because of the contrast with me that you were able to gain sympathy and climb to where you are now. Yan Xiuyuan was able to solidify his image as a deep and loyal lover because of me. I’m only helping you because you and that garbage are well-matched, nothing more. Yan Xiuyuan has gone crazy to this extent. If I don’t help you, do you think you can win back his heart?”

So, Pei Lang knew everything.

When Pei Ziqing realized Pei Lang wanted to compete for Yan Xiuyuan, he had already prepared himself. Pei Lang was too foolish and kept falling into traps. Pei Ziqing had intentionally provoked him, triggered him, and used various marketing strategies to make him become universally despised.

Thanks to Yan Xiuyuan’s influence, these actions were carried out quietly. Pei Ziqing thought Pei Lang would never find out.

Pei Lang’s words were like a knife covered in salt, stabbing mercilessly into Pei Ziqing’s heart. Indeed, Yan Xiuyuan’s attitude made it very hard to recover. But, should he accept Pei Lang’s help? “Aren’t you supposed to hate me? Why are you helping me?”

“I’m not helping you. I’m helping myself. You know I’m a married man. I don’t want to be tangled up with a mad dog.”

Pei Ziqing: “……”

Pei Lang didn’t avoid using the term “mad dog” in front of Pei Ziqing, even though that was someone else’s fiancé. But, then again, who was Yan Han? If Pei Lang had something going on with Yan Xiuyuan, even if Yan Han didn’t like Pei Lang, he wouldn’t allow he’ll be cuckolded by his nephew.

No matter the reason, Pei Ziqing’s current situation made it impossible for him to refuse Pei Lang’s help.
