MMLDU Chapter 62

I just had a nightmare.

So, what’s the use of this golden finger? To watch myself being “taken advantage of” in person!?

Pei Lang angrily cursed the system, his mind filled with the images of Yan Han pinning him to the desk, which he couldn’t shake off. After screaming earlier, Pei Lang ran off without seeing Yan Han’s reaction. Now, belatedly, aside from the embarrassment, all he could think about was how to explain things to Yan Han.

As expected, not long after, Yan Han came to knock on the door.

After hesitating for a long time, Pei Lang went to the bathroom and splashed cold water on his face to cool down before opening the door.

His internal world was disrupted, but Yan Han was back to normal, his demeanor composed, though still showing some concern. “What happened to you just now?”

“I had a nightmare,” Pei Lang lied.

“…” Yan Han didn’t say anything, quietly watching Pei Lang.

Pei Lang soon realized that this excuse seemed strange. Who wakes up from a nightmare and immediately runs away?

“I dreamt that I was the emperor of a country. After taking office, natural disasters kept happening and the people were suffering. To win their trust, I personally went on a journey to solve the flood problem. Upon reaching my destination, I met an old refugee with a family, so pitiful.” Pei Lang spoke earnestly. His ability to fabricate lies was impressive. “The old refugee was bold enough to publicly say that I wasn’t fit to be the emperor and that the heavens were punishing me with disasters. He incited other refugees to riot and came at me with a big knife. Just as I was about to lose my head, I screamed ‘old refugee’, and then I woke up.”

Saying this, Pei Lang patted his chest, still feeling uneasy. “It’s a good thing it was just a dream. It was so terrifying.”

“Then why did you run?” Yan Han asked, not bothering to delve into whether Pei Lang had said ‘old pervert’ or ‘old refugee’. He had already stopped questioning it.

“You were working. When I suddenly screamed, I must have disturbed you. I was afraid you’d blame me, so I ran back.” Pei Lang continued to lie, blinking his eyes and playing the pitiful card. “Are you here to blame me?”

“No.” Yan Han coldly reassured him. “I won’t blame you, don’t overthink it. It was just a dream.”

Pei Lang let out a long sigh of relief, but then Yan Han brought it up again. “You were scared, so it’s normal to have a nightmare. Come to my room later and sleep with me. Don’t be afraid with me here.”

With that, Yan Han left without even entering Pei Lang’s room. Could Pei Lang refuse? Of course not. They had slept together yesterday; if he refused today, wouldn’t that make him look strange? Moreover, Yan Han’s words left no room for argument. Pei Lang found himself not comforted, but rather even more anxious.

In fact, it was also Yan Han’s first time reading that kind of book.

It was all Qi Shaoheng’s doing.

When Yan Han woke up after taking a nap, he found that Qi Shaoheng had sent him quite a few new e-books, with a note saying he should study them carefully. Qi Shaoheng had implicitly assumed that Yan Han had already won the person’s heart and needed further learning, so he sent a variety of stories, both modern, ancient, and contemporary. Unable to resist his curiosity, Yan Han finally opened one from the modern era.

The one he read just now told the story of a passionate young master and a poor, fated actor. At first, he couldn’t bear to read it, but when he started to picture himself and Pei Lang’s faces in the characters’ roles, he quickly became engrossed.

The more he read, the more engrossed he became, so when Pei Lang woke up, Yan Han didn’t even notice until Pei Lang’s sudden shout broke him out of the world of the book. Pei Lang had run out in panic, which made Yan Han worry, so he chased after him to ask what happened.

He wasn’t very good at comforting people. When he said in a terse, emotionless tone, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here,” even he thought it sounded strange.

He was used to speaking in such a way; First, if he tried to speak gently, he wouldn’t know how. Second… it would just sound even stranger.

It was tough, really tough. But thinking that he would be able to hold the person in his arms tonight and touch that little waist somehow made his mood not seem so bad.

When applying the medicine that night, Pei Lang’s proud acting started to crack bit by bit. He couldn’t pretend that nothing had happened. He couldn’t ignore the two little chibis on Yan Han’s shoulder, nor could he ignore the way Yan Han focused so seriously on applying the medicine.

Pei Lang was holding his breath, almost suffocating.

As usual, when it was time to sleep, Pei Lang deliberately distanced himself from Yan Han, purposely closing his eyes to pretend to be asleep. But he didn’t dare to sleep, fearing that he might unconsciously climb onto Yan Han again, which would be so embarrassing.

What if Yan Han misunderstood? The next day, he’d be left with all kinds of embarrassing fantasies, and the one who’d feel awkward and ashamed would be him.

So, he absolutely couldn’t sleep.

Struggling against his drowsiness, Pei Lang tossed and turned. Yan Han lay flat, sensing Pei Lang’s unease. Yan Han assumed it was because the nightmare from earlier in the day hadn’t worn off, making Pei Lang too scared to sleep.

With all the tossing and turning, Pei Lang’s wound on his neck kept rubbing against the sheets.

Under the blanket, Yan Han hesitated for a long time. In the end, his hand found Pei Lang’s hand, which was trembling slightly with nervousness, in the darkness. The touch was soft. Once he held it, he didn’t want to let go. But Pei Lang seemed even more nervous, stiffly trying to pull away, though he didn’t break free. Finally, he shakily asked, “Wh-what’s wrong?”

“Can’t sleep?” Yan Han asked in a flat tone, looking serious. Pei Lang couldn’t connect this side of Yan Han to anything more intimate, that is, unless he could see his innermost thoughts.

Pei Lang’s breathing was uneven as he poked his head out from under the blankets to get some air. “Mm, a little… scared.”

“I’m here.” Yan Han’s usual, unconvincing reassurance.

Pei Lang’s mind screamed: I’m scared because of you!

Perhaps realizing his comfort was too stiff, Yan Han softened his voice and added, “When your wound heals in a couple of days and you can eat whatever you want, I’ll take you out.”

When food was mentioned, Pei Lang perked up.

“Great! I want hotpot. Lu Lu’s been so strict—won’t let me eat this, won’t let me eat that. I haven’t had hotpot in ages.”

“Alright.”

Miraculously, Pei Lang’s fear was dispelled. After all, Yan Han had to maintain the persona of a domineering CEO, so there were some things he could only think about in his mind and would never act on. With that thought, Pei Lang wasn’t so worried anymore and decided to pretend he didn’t know anything when Yan Han didn’t directly address it.

Although he had relaxed, Pei Lang still couldn’t fall asleep. Eventually, they started talking about how to help Yan Xiuyuan and Pei Ziqing get married smoothly. Pei Lang mainly spoke and Yan Han added some suggestions, following Pei Lang’s ideas, while Yan Han filled in some gaps.

The more they talked, the more energized they became. They rarely had such long conversations. It wasn’t until they went over the entire plan that Pei Lang started feeling drowsy and turned his head to sleep. Throughout all this, they kept holding hands.

After confirming that Pei Lang had fallen asleep, Yan Han sneaked in some movements and carefully pulled him into his arms, ensuring his neck was protected.

Sure enough, when Pei Lang woke up the next day, he was still lying on Yan Han’s chest, just like the last time. He felt terrified and embarrassed, quickly getting up to wash his face before accepting the medicine from Yan Han. The days repeated in this manner.

However, during this time, Pei Lang couldn’t ignore the two little figures in Yan Han’s inner world. He watched as the little chibi became more and more outrageous, pinning the little fox in different places to kiss, hugging him, and groping him. Of course, the same incidents from that day kept occurring frequently.

Various character setups, different scenarios, and diverse story backgrounds, but the one constant was that the characters were always them. Each time, Pei Lang couldn’t bear to watch, often blushing, heart racing, and covering his eyes. Under Yan Han’s questioning, he had to pretend to act nonchalant and make up lies to cover it up.

But finally, he began to notice the possessiveness and desire hidden deep in Yan Han’s eyes, which left him feeling lost and unsure.

This kind of life continued for a week. Once the wound on his neck fully healed, Pei Lang immediately dove into the filming schedule. The moment he saw Lu Lu, he gave a big hug, and his heart, which had been racing wildly these past few days, finally started to calm down as he entered the set.

After resting for a few days, he had fallen behind in the progress. The moment he entered the room, he dove right into filming. People in the crew looked at him with more or less strange expressions, especially Zhong Yixiao.

The conflict with Yan Xiuyuan had already spread throughout the crew. It was now certain and clear that Pei Lang didn’t like Yan Xiuyuan. Before, it was said that Pei Lang was obsessively chasing Yan Xiuyuan, but now, it seemed like the situation had reversed.

But wasn’t Yan Xiuyuan officially announced to be with Pei Lang’s brother? What’s going on here?

The gossip was so big, but no one dared to ask for details. They could only keep it to themselves, gathering in small groups to guess, but no one could figure out what was really happening.

Finally, one day, the three main leads gathered, and under their curious gazes, Pei Lang decided to bring up the topic. When they arrived that day, they were amazed by Pei Lang’s swordplay and shocked by how he had beaten Yan Xiuyuan so badly. These past days, they had been busy filming, and when they got to the hotel, they just rested, not having time to ask about it in detail.

Now that they finally had a moment to breathe, they took the opportunity. Liu Ran immediately started praising him. “Your swordplay was really amazing. You must have at least ten years of training to perform like that.”

Liu Ran complimented him, while Zhong Yixiao was concerned about other matters.

“That day, you really beat Yan Xiuyuan up. He was lying on the ground for half a day, unable to get up. It was the director who couldn’t bear it and sent him to the hospital.” Thinking back to that day, even though it felt satisfying, Pei Lang had to admit he hadn’t considered the consequences. “You really don’t mind offending him?”

Yan Xiuyuan was, after all, a noble figure. The crew had kept it under wraps, but if this leaked, Pei Lang would face more online abuse. Moreover, Yan Xiuyuan had a higher status. Pei Lang couldn’t afford to offend him. Before, Pei Lang had his younger brother, Pei Ziqing, to help plead his case, but since things had gotten so unpleasant and after Pei Lang was sent to the detention center last time, it seemed like Pei Ziqing no longer cared about his older brother.

If Yan Xiuyuan retaliated, Pei Lang would be in serious trouble.

Pei Lang wasn’t afraid, smiling as he replied, “I’m not scared.”

Zhong Yixiao and Liu Ran exchanged a glance, both understanding.

It was clear now: Pei Lang had someone more powerful behind him than Yan Xiuyuan.

Taking a week off from filming for personal reasons had never happened under Director Jin, but Pei Lang managed it. What did that mean? It meant Pei Lang definitely had someone powerful behind him, which was why Director Jin tolerated it.

It seemed the rumors about having a powerful backer were true.

But neither of them thought much of it. Pei Lang had real ability, far superior to those who climbed to the top by relying on a powerful backer.

Of course, Pei Lang didn’t know what they were thinking. “Besides, I didn’t hit Yan Xiuyuan, I was just defending myself from a mad dog who bit me first. He started it, I was just acting in self-defense. If we’re talking about who’s in the right, I’m clearly on the side of justice.”

However, the entertainment industry isn’t a place where logic matters—whoever has power is the one who holds the cards.

But the two of them still agreed with Pei Lang’s reasoning and didn’t push the conversation too far.

After chatting for a while, Lu Lu arrived. Pei Lang left with him to return to the hotel.

After Pei Lang left, Liu Ran didn’t stay behind either. She just tossed a parting line before leaving. “Looks like you don’t have a chance.”

This was directed at Zhong Yixiao, who paused for a moment before smiling. If he had any thoughts at the beginning, now he didn’t dare to entertain them at all. Ever since his agent got punished for loose talk, he understood that Pei Lang was not someone who could be messed with.
