MMLDU Chapter 80

People who love each other are each other's luck.

The matter with the production crew was something Yan Han didn’t discuss, and Pei Lang didn’t ask. He trusted Yan Han to seek justice for him.

Everything seemed peaceful. After Pei Lang regained consciousness and stayed a few more days in the hospital, the doctor declared he could recover at home. Once the discharge formalities were complete, Yan Han brought Pei Lang back to the villa.

Nothing compared to the comfort of home. However, for the time being, Pei Lang was under strict supervision. He wasn’t allowed to run or jump around, and everything he ate or used had to undergo thorough checks. They were so cautious, fearing anything that might impede his recovery or lead to lasting complications.

Pei Lang found the situation both exasperating and amusing. He wasn’t allowed to sit for long, stand for long, stay up late, or spend extended periods on the computer composing music. Life became unbearably dull.

Thankfully, his body wasn’t prone to gaining weight. Otherwise, with this level of pampering, he was sure his muscles would turn to fat in no time.

Yan Han, aware of Pei Lang’s boredom, stayed home to keep him company whenever possible. He only left briefly when work at the company was absolutely unavoidable.

After a month of rest, Pei Lang’s injuries were fully healed. Even so, Yan Han insisted on extending his recuperation for another two months. Only after relentless pleading and coaxing from Pei Lang did Yan Han finally agree to let him return to filming. Overjoyed, Pei Lang immediately contacted Lu Lu.

The moment Lu Lu saw Pei Lang’s call, he was moved to tears. “Brother Lang, you finally called! How are you? Is your body fully recovered?”

“I’m completely fine now. I’ll be rejoining the team in a couple of days,” Pei Lang replied cheerfully. The thought of returning to filming genuinely thrilled him.

Lu Lu let out a huge sigh of relief. “That’s great! I was so terrified that day. After President Yan showed up, I couldn’t even reach you. Thank goodness you’re okay. Otherwise, I’d carry that guilt for the rest of my life. If I had been more cautious and involved in checking the props, this wouldn’t have happened.”

“Alright, I didn’t call to listen to you blame yourself. It wasn’t your fault.” Who could have foreseen someone daring to smuggle a firearm into the set and orchestrate an attempted murder?

Carrying firearms and committing murder were not only criminal acts but also outright audacious, especially targeting someone within Yan Han’s company. Whoever was behind it was either deranged or recklessly fearless.

“I gave you the password to the apartment, didn’t I? Go there in advance and stock up on snacks for me. You have no idea how much I’ve suffered these past three months eating nothing but healthy meals. I’m about to go insane.”

It wasn’t that the food was bad—Aunt Lin’s cooking was unparalleled. But eating only proper meals for so long had made him crave snacks like crazy. Unfortunately, Yan Han and Aunt Lin had kept a tight watch on him, leaving him utterly deprived.

“……” On the other end of the line, Lu Lu hesitated, too scared to respond. Those high-calorie, unhealthy snacks were Pei Lang’s favorites but were strictly forbidden for all the company’s artists. Granted, Pei Lang was a special exception and Lu Lu could help cover for him with the manager, but when it came to President Yan… “Brother Lang, President Yan is kind of terrifying. I’m scared.”

“Is he really that scary?” Pei Lang, who had been spoiled, had entirely forgotten how others viewed Yan Han. “Don’t worry, he won’t find out. And even if he does, I’m here. I won’t let you get punished.”

With Pei Lang’s reassurance, Lu Lu felt braver. “Okay, Brother Lang, I’ll take care of it right away.”

On the day they were heading to the filming location, Pei Lang got up early to pack, even though there wasn’t much to pack. His eagerness was apparent, which made Yan Han feel quite displeased.

After all, no one would be happy seeing their spouse so eager to leave home.

Pei Lang deliberately left the day before filming started to ensure Yan Han wouldn’t have time to discover the stash of snacks at home. But to his dismay, Yan Han didn’t leave after dropping him off. Instead, as soon as they entered the place, the two large bags of snacks that Lu Lu had bought were sitting blatantly on the coffee table. Pei Lang didn’t even have time to hide them before they were discovered.

Pei Lang wished he could grab Lu Lu by the ear and ask why he hadn’t hidden the snacks. Sure, he had said there was nothing to fear, but wasn’t this a little too bold?

“What’s this?” Yan Han, with his long legs, strode over in just a few steps and pointed at the two large bags.

Pei Lang walked over and pretended to carefully examine the contents before answering. “Uh… looks like snacks.”

“These weren’t here three months ago,” Yan Han frowned. He could tell immediately if Pei Lang was lying. The guilt was written all over his face.

“Uh… well…” The usually smooth-talking Pei Lang suddenly started stammering. His mind raced to come up with an explanation, but his mouth failed to cooperate.

Before he could say anything, Yan Han asked sharply, “So, you gave the house password to someone else?”

“…?” Pei Lang blinked, completely caught off guard. He hadn’t expected Yan Han to focus on that detail. All the excuses he’d been preparing were suddenly useless, and he had to start over. “Um… I told Lu Lu. He’s my assistant, after all. Sometimes I need him to come by the house to handle things.”

Yan Han: “…” He pressed his lips together in silence.

Pei Lang chuckled. “Are you jealous?”

He pulled Yan Han down to sit, his long and slender hand, smaller than Yan Han’s, played with Yan Han’s fingers. The tingling sensation from the fingertips reached his heart. Yan Han wasn’t really angry before, but now all his emotions had dissipated.

“I think you’re overthinking. You’re good-looking, rich, and so gentle and loving toward me. In my eyes and my heart, such an excellent man occupies all my thoughts. How could I have any extra attention to spare for someone else?” When it came to sweet words, Pei Lang was always more skilled than Yan Han.

“Love that can easily be shifted isn’t true love for the person, but love for their looks or their money. Beauty fades and wealth is always fleeting, but a person is unique and irreplaceable. I love the one-of-a-kind you. No matter what we face in the future, you will always be you. My love for you will never change.”

These words left Yan Han deeply moved, unable to speak for a long time. He simply held Pei Lang tightly, expressing his most genuine feelings in the same way Pei Lang had taught him. “I will always love you, cherish you, and protect you for a lifetime. I’ve always believed that meeting you was the real beginning of my life. All the misfortunes of my past were just to prepare me for meeting you. Thank you for coming into my life.”

“People who love each other are each other’s luck. Husband, you are my luck too.”

They held each other for a long time before finally letting go. It was only when Pei Lang’s neck became stiff that Yan Han realized how much time had passed.

Yan Han had a strong sense of possessiveness and could be jealous, but he would always respect and trust Pei Lang.

A small assistant was no threat at all.

After letting go, Yan Han, like a concerned mother, started listing the things to be cautious about once Pei Lang returned to the set. It was the same few points repeated over and over. Pei Lang patiently listened, occasionally nodding obediently. After the instructions were given, Yan Han turned his attention to the snacks. Curious, he began to open them one by one and examine them. “What’s this?”

“Potato chips,” Pei Lang replied. Yan Han set it down and reached for something else. Pei Lang took the opportunity to grab it, tearing it open and eating.

“What’s this?” Yan Han asked, picking up another pack with curiosity.

“Spicy strips.” The name on the packaging was strange, but no matter how odd the name, they were all called spicy strips. “Want to try?”

“Sure.” Yan Han didn’t keep searching but tore open the spicy strips and took a small bite. It was spicy, oily, and very flavorful, with a decent taste, but the heat made his tongue suffer a little. “Do you usually like eating these?”

While speaking, Yan Han’s face flushed from the spice. Pei Lang couldn’t help but laugh. “I eat them only occasionally. Most of the time, I eat regular meals.”

“Mm.” Yan Han couldn’t handle spicy strips, so he took a piece of potato chip from Pei Lang’s hand. The level of spiciness was acceptable and he could handle it.

Then Pei Lang, feeling like he’d found a like-minded person, enthusiastically recommended more. Yan Han tried each one. He’d never had these things before. While the novelty was one reason, more than that, he wanted to understand and connect with Pei Lang’s preferences.

“I thought you wouldn’t let me eat these.” Pei Lang was so happy, he looked a bit silly, his eyes sparkling with laughter that made it hard to look away.

Yan Han could keenly pick up on every little action of Pei Lang, including his emotions and micro-expressions. He liked Pei Lang this way, so open and unreserved. “I wouldn’t. More than this, I just want you to be happy.”

“What kind of perfect husband are you? I really love you so much.” Pei Lang gave him a big hug, kissing Yan Han on the lips despite the oil on his mouth.

After the compliment, Yan Han couldn’t suppress the smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. He held Pei Lang for a long time, snuggling.

The filming location didn’t change. The next day, Pei Lang met up with Lu Lu, and they went to the set together. Lu Lu sighed in relief when he saw how well and healthy Pei Lang looked, feeling reassured and convinced that President Yan really treated their Brother Lang well.

When they arrived at the set, the staff were already in position. At a glance, many people had been replaced, but because half of the filming had already been done, it was troublesome to change actors mid-shoot. Since the incident had little to do with the actors, the original crew had mostly been retained.

This time, everyone treated Pei Lang with great courtesy, being meticulous and careful from top to bottom, afraid that he might trip or get upset. No one knew about Pei Lang and Yan Han’s relationship, but they could all see it clearly. The so-called backer that Pei Lang was rumored to be with was their boss. If they didn’t pamper him, they feared that if the boss got upset, even losing their jobs would seem like a minor issue.

The filming went smoothly. But as they were filming, Yan Han arrived.

Not only did the crew members get a shock, but even Pei Lang hadn’t expected it. He thought Yan Han had gone back.

Yan Han watched the filming. Even the smile on the director’s face was barely holding on. The whole set became tense, with everyone working meticulously to complete their tasks perfectly.

During the break, Pei Lang helplessly led Yan Han to the break room. “Aren’t you going back?”

“I’m not going back. I want to stay and watch you work,” Yan Han replied. Pei Lang’s hair, which had grown over the past three months, had been shaved again, and his pale, delicate face was painted dark yellow. His worn, rough clothes were obviously part of the character’s look for the role, but seeing Pei Lang like this always gave the impression of malnutrition.

The scene where Guan Ming was shot and revived was filmed earlier. Pei Lang’s acting was so good that it almost made Yan Han think his illness hadn’t fully recovered. The fragile appearance was heartbreaking.

Once Pei Lang got out of character and was bouncing around, Yan Han resisted the urge to send him to the hospital for a full check-up.

“Now that you’ve seen it, when are you planning to go back? It’s not that I’m rushing you to leave, but everyone here is so tense with you around. The atmosphere feels a bit off,” Pei Lang said. Looking around, everyone had serious, focused faces, even his cute little assistant was nervously at a loss. Pei Lang didn’t like this kind of atmosphere.

Of course, Pei Lang understood Yan Han’s feelings.

It was because Yan Han couldn’t bear to leave. He also wanted to show everyone that Pei Lang was under his protection.

“I’ll go back in a few days. I want to stay with you for a few more days.”

“Alright, but I might not be able to take care of you when I get busy. Would my husband mind?”

“I won’t mind. Just being able to watch you is enough for me.”
