MFBOWSBTMT Chapter 50

Sweetness

Early the next morning, Lu Dongqing opened his eyes to find Qiao Suiman still fast asleep in his arms. Half of his face was buried in the quilt, pressed tightly against Lu Dongqing’s chest. His warm breath brushed against Lu Dongqing’s skin, instantly stirring a surge of heat within him.

Tear stains from the night before lingered at the corners of Qiao Suiman’s eyes. Lu Dongqing inwardly scolded himself for being a beast, then leaned down to press a light kiss to his forehead before carefully slipping out of bed. He tucked the quilt snugly around Qiao Suiman, dressed himself, and stepped outside.

Recalling how he had thoroughly exhausted Qiao Suiman the previous night and not stopping until they had gone at it three times, Lu Dongqing felt a twinge of guilt. Though Qiao Suiman eventually found pleasure in it, he must still be sore. Not wanting to disturb his rest, Lu Dongqing headed to the kitchen alone.

“Mother.”

“Ah, Xiao Man hasn’t woken up yet, right?”

Miao Lianhua was boiling water in the kitchen. The mornings had turned cold, and a cup of hot water was necessary to warm oneself up.

Lu Dongqing scratched his head sheepishly. “Not yet.”

Miao Lianhua understood immediately. As someone who had been through it herself, she knew exactly why Qiao Suiman hadn’t risen yet.

She wasn’t the type to make things difficult for others. Now that Qiao Suiman had formally addressed her as “Mother” the day before, she intended to treat him as her own child. As for setting household rules, they weren’t a wealthy family, so why would they need so many rules?

When she married Lu Lai’an, his mother had long passed, so she was never subjected to a mother-in-law’s strictures, something many women envied. Now, she certainly wouldn’t use her position as a mother-in-law to make things hard for Qiao Suiman. As long as the family was united and lived well together, nothing else mattered.

“Go wash up first. Come back later to take the sugar-water eggs to him.”

The kitchen at home was still the makeshift one from before and not very big. Two people inside felt cramped, so Miao Lianhua waved her hand and sent Lu Dongqing out.

Taking the hint, Lu Dongqing fetched water from the kitchen, afraid of waking Qiao Suiman, and went to the bathroom to wash up. Although it was called a bathroom, it was actually just a space enclosed on the right side of the new room which was enough to keep out the wind and rain. If it gets colder, they would just have to go inside to wash up to avoid having to light another brazier.

Mindful of the person still in bed, Lu Dongqing worked quickly. He washed his face, cleaned his teeth with a willow twig, then carried a fresh basin of water back to the room before quietly retreating again.

Miao Lianhua had already finished preparing breakfast. If others knew, they’d surely say she didn’t know how to enjoy life. Her son had just married, so she must let the new fulang do the cooking.

But she didn’t see it that way. His son-in-law is married to her son, not to her. Besides, she should be happy that he couldn’t get up today because he was tired yesterday. It meant she might soon hold a grandchild in her arms.

Qiao Suiman stirred drowsily, sensing a warm gaze on him. Slowly opening his eyes, he saw unfamiliar bed curtains and a figure sitting at the edge of the bed…

Then it all came back to him. Qiao Suiman suddenly remembered that he had already married Lu Dongqing and become his fulang, completely possessed by him inside and out.

He immediately burrowed deeper under the quilt, leaving only his eyes exposed. He asked Lu Dongqing shyly, “What time is it now?”

His voice came out hoarse, reminding him of the sounds he made the night before. Flushing, he hid even more of his face.

“It’s noon,” Lu Dongqing replied, his voice dripping with tenderness and eyes brimming with affection. “Are you hungry? I brought water. Wash up first.”

“It’s already noon?!”

Qiao Suiman was surprised and said anxiously, “It’s so late, why didn’t you call me earlier?”

As he scrambled up, the quilt slipped, sending a chill over his exposed skin.

Noticing the sudden heat in Lu Dongqing’s gaze, Qiao Suiman glanced down and immediately yanked the quilt back over himself, his face and neck burning with embarrassment. “Where are my clothes?!”

Lu Dongqing rubbed his nose and pointed sheepishly toward the foot of the bed, where Qiao Suiman’s undergarment lay neatly folded.

This shameless rogue! Qiao Suiman glared at him. How could he be fully dressed while Qiao Suiman was… Hmph!

Lu Dongqing didn’t mind the glare. He knew he was at fault. He wanted to put the clothes on Qiao Suiman after cleaning him in the early morning, but seeing that Qiao Suiman was sleeping soundly, he was worried that he would wake him up, so he simply folded the clothes and put them aside.

Of course, he also had his own selfish reasons. His fulang is fragrant and soft, and holding him in his arms felt like holding a warm piece of jade, so he indulged himself.

Qiao Suiman was both sweet and shy, so he pretended to be angry, ordering Lu Dongqing to turn away so he could dress. Moving quickly, he winced when a certain sore spot twinged, letting out an involuntary hiss.

Lu Dongqing asked anxiously, “What’s wrong?”

But he still didn’t dare turn his face back.

Qiao Suiman couldn’t help laughing and nudged his back. “It’s all your fault. I told you to stop, but you wouldn’t listen.”

Lu Dongqing mumbled in defense, “You enjoyed it too.”

In broad daylight, Qiao Suiman had no intention of continuing this conversation. Pretending not to hear, he moved to the edge of the bed to put on his outer robe and cleared his throat. “I’ll go wash up first. Mother is still waiting for me to serve her tea.”

His voice grew anxious again. “It’s already so late. How improper!”

As he finished speaking, he hurried to the table and took a cloth to wipe his face. Before his face was dry, he took a willow twig to clean his teeth. His movements were a little flustered.

A hand settled on his shoulder. Qiao Suiman turned to see Lu Dongqing smiling gently. “Mother doesn’t care for formalities. She said to serve tea after you’ve eaten the sugar-water eggs and told me not to disturb you.”

Sugar-water eggs?

Only then did Qiao Suiman notice the steaming bowl of red sugar-water with eggs on the table. The dark syrup had stained the eggs a deep red. He glanced questioningly at Lu Dongqing.

“It’s a tradition in Yuntai Town. The newlywed fulang must eat a bowl of red sugar-water eggs the morning after the wedding. It symbolizes a prosperous life ahead.”

Lu Dongqing grinned as he explained.

“I’ve never heard of that before,” Qiao Suiman said, his lips curving up. He sat down and stirred the bowl with a spoon, his eyes widening. “There are two eggs! Aren’t you having any?”

“I’ll eat later with breakfast,” Lu Dongqing said, sitting beside him and scooting his chair so close they were nearly touching. “This is for the newlywed fulang. You eat.”

Two whole eggs! Aside from the noodles the day before, Qiao Suiman had never eaten two eggs in one sitting. Lu Dongqing and Miao Lianhua’s concern reassured him, so he stopped worrying and ate them bite by bite.

The water was sweet, and the eggs had also absorbed the sweetness. Qiao Suiman turned his face away in embarrassment and said, “Stop staring at me.”

“I…”

Lu Dongqing suddenly felt at a loss. He hadn’t interacted much with ge’rs or young women before. After he threw his heart into Qiao Suiman, his heart and eyes were full of him. But ge’rs were more shy, and he didn’t want to upset him further. He stood up and said, “Then I’ll go make the bed.”

“Ah.”

Qiao Suiman immediately wondered if he’d been too harsh. He had never seen other wives and fulang treat their husbands this way. Lu Dongqing would never go west when he said east. The thought made Qiao Suiman giggle.

He[mfn]Lu Dongqing[/mfn] was so good to him[mfn]Qiao Suiman[/mfn], so there was nothing wrong with taking a look. As for being shy, they had already consummated their marriage, so it was no big deal. Reassuring himself, Qiao Suiman grabbed Lu Dongqing, who was walking towards the bed.

“You sit down. I’ll make the bed later.”

After saying that, he lowered his head and started eating the sugar-water egg again. Lu Dongqing understood what he meant and happily began to stare at his fulang again, as if he could never get enough of looking at him.
