Chapter 82

Three years later.

Yuanjiang, early spring.

This year’s spring started half a month sooner than the years before. Winter had passed too quickly, and the long streets were still covered in unmelted snow, which was melting away in the heat of the sun. A flowing river ran through the city center, and hundreds of towers stood along it, creating a scattered skyline.

The most striking of these are the Jiusheng Twin Towers, which remain straight in the south of the area, shining as silver shields and sharp as blades.

A white luxury car approached from afar, drove into the square, and came to a stop graciously under the East Tower porch.

The two car doors opened nearly at the same time

He An was the first to get out of the automobile, followed by a pair of small leather boots that landed lightly on the ground and Linglan leaping down.

She was already five years old, with an apple face and short hair. She wore a bright yellow dress and a wool beret. She appeared enthusiastic and cute, much like a tiny English woman.

It was chilly in early spring, so He An wrapped her in a thick coat before bending down and reaching into the car, bringing out a young alpha baby.

“Lili, hold on to your sister.”

“Okay!”

The baby was very obedient. He took a half-step towards Linglan, clenching his small hands tightly.

He was born with thick brows and wide eyes and was both innocent and adorable. His physical features naturally showed the elitist character of a young master. However, he was too young, just two and a half years old, and dressed in children’s overalls, so his arms and legs appeared to be short.

Zheng Feiluan’s assistant waited at the door for over ten minutes. When he noticed them, he instantly walked down the steps and told He An, “President Zheng is still in a meeting. Allow me to go and inform him. You and the kids can go to the office and sit down first.”

“How much longer will it take?” He asked.

“Twenty minutes to half an hour, it won’t be too long,” the assistant replied.

“Okay, thank you.” He An smiled and nodded.

A faint voice from the car called out, “Dad…”

He sounded upset because he had been forgotten on the seat. He An quickly went around to the other side, opened the door, and carried the little guy out.

This one is an omega boy, dressed in the same children’s overalls as his twin brother and possessing identical facial features but more delicate eyebrows. His eyebrows are furrowed, tears trickle from his eyes, and his lips are pursed, almost invisible.

“Don’t cry, Jiujiu. Daddy’s here.”

He An comforted him tenderly and kissed him on the cheek.

When his father noticed him, the young boy smiled right away.

He An carried him while holding Linglan’s hand and guided them slowly to the hall. Lili was rather brave and took tiny steps. When he came across a foreman or waiter greeting them on the way, he would blink his dark eyes and say, “Hello!”

Jiujiu was shy, so despite opening his mouth like his brother, no one but He An heard him say “hello.”

Thirty minutes later, the door to the conference room on the 55th floor of the East Tower was pushed open.

The executives from Jiusheng immediately left the conference room and made their way back to their own floors. The assistant was standing near the door. After noticing that no one had come in or gone out for a long time, he leaned in and tapped on the door, “Mr. Zheng, your wife is here.”

The Zheng brothers were discussing something at the conference table. When they heard the words, they turned around at the same time.

“In the office?” Zheng Feiluan asked.

“Yes, sir.” The assistant confirmed. “They’ve been here for a while. Madam appears to be in a pleasant mood today. He’s playing with the young masters.”

Zheng Feiluan was startled and jumped up, “I’ll be there shortly.”

Zheng Feiyi, seated across from the meeting table, lifted his hand and snapped his fingers before smiling, “Congrats, it’s time to start your yearly family vacation.”

Zheng Feiluan smiled and raised an eyebrow, “I’ll let you handle it for the rest of the month. In exchange, I’ll help you when you and Sǎozi[mfn]Sister-in-law, older brother’s wife[/mfn] go on vacation next time.”

“Then you may have to wait for a while because your sister-in-law is a total workaholic.”

Zheng Feiyi’s shoulders slumped in despair.

Who could have guessed?

When they were younger, he and Zheng Feiluan had totally different ideas about what a “perfect partner” should be like. He dreamed of an omega who was calm and collected, optimistic, bright, and reserved, while Zheng Feiluan wanted an omega who showed off, was dazzling, and was excellent in every way possible. But as luck would have it, the omega they got was quite the opposite.

“My sincerest sympathies.”

Zheng Feiluan walked over to pat his brother on the shoulder, his face a mix of reassurance and arrogance. He then stepped out of the conference room with his assistant.

The plans for late March had been made clear ahead of time. He had nothing to do but walk to his office, and on the way, he gave his assistant a list of things to keep track of for the next two weeks. When he passed the restroom, he turned around, stepped inside, and carefully fixed his hair and clothes in front of the mirror to make sure there were no flaws before continuing his walk to the office.

The young assistant secretly protested to himself.

When he’s in front of his wife, Mr. Zheng looks much like a male peacock spreading its tail.

When Zheng Feiluan pushed the door open, He An, who was sitting on the couch, lifted his head and smiled at him. Warm sunlight came in through the French window on the other side, revealing He An’s face.

A small light flickered on the ring finger of his left hand before disappearing quietly.

“You are my alpha from this day forward.”

When Zheng Feiluan glanced at the ring, the words that had been making him feel so good until now rushed back to him.

Their only and most beloved daughter, Linglan, sat next to He An. On the carpet in front of Linglan sat two well-behaved little kids who had clearly gone too far and were being called out by their sister.

When the door opened, they both turned around at the same time, showing quite similar small faces.

“Daddy!”

They excitedly crawled up and ran towards Zheng Feiluan, one after the other.

Jiujiu was still hesitant with walking and fell behind, accidentally landing on his face. Lili, who was in front, stopped, turned back, crouched down, struggled to pull his brother up, and then held his hand as they stumbled towards Zheng Feiluan.

“Daddy, hugs!”

Zheng Feiluan greeted each of them with a loving, fatherly embrace.

A perfect heat cycle creates a perfect gift.

He An’s prediction was right.

What they thought was simply one little hydrangea bloomed quietly into two flowers. And, thanks to proper pregnancy care, He An didn’t have any discomfort, and his belly was not too big—the two brothers were extremely close in the womb, with their small hands holding each other’s little feet, doing their best to make space for He An.

With these things in mind, He An finished his classes, wrote a 70-page thesis for graduation, passed the defense of his thesis, and went to the ceremony to receive his diploma.

When the two babies were born, they were both healthy and adorable, and they received full marks on all of their tests.

Old Man Zheng came to the hospital to see his grandchildren. He froze when he first saw the alpha baby. He said that the child’s pheromone level had to be extremely high and that he needed to test it to determine whether he was suitable to be Jiusheng’s heir. As a result, Yan Ning personally insisted that he leave the ward, and he didn’t see him again until the Full Moon Celebration. He never mentioned it again after that.

He An decided the babies’ nicknames before their birth. They are Lili and Jiujiu, and the meanings are quite simple:

Two fluttering little chicks.

Zheng Feiluan, the “big bird,” has always been stern and proud at the office. He received countless praises after He An became pregnant, but he tried to contain himself so as not to express too much excitement and impact his professional reputation. However, when He An told him the two nicknames, Lili and Jiujiu, he often cracked up for no obvious reason, which confused his employees, who had grown used to his solemn demeanor.

Little chick.

How cute is that?

Zheng Feiluan’s fatherly devotion was overflowing in the first month after the births of Lili and Jiujiu, and he had no intention of working. He just extended his parental leave by twenty days, urging his brother to work at full capacity and almost dying of stress. Linglan adores her brothers and would lie by the crib and look at them as soon as she opened her eyes each day. Zheng Feiluan had previously missed Linglan’s infancy, but this time he did all he could to prove his fatherly love by watching over Lili and Jiujiu, which significantly improved Linglan’s approval.

Zheng Feiluan gave He An the most relaxing recovery environment. He An didn’t waste his time, and using his talent and dedication, he took advantage of the recovery period to get a diploma of important value.

After the twins reached one year old, he refused Jiusheng’s proposal and didn’t stay under Zheng Feiluan’s care. Instead, he chose an insurance firm he had long respected. The salary of a newly hired analyst is low, and the work is difficult, but he has his own income and circle. When Zheng Feiluan discusses his work with He An, he always has a smile on his face.

This is the life He An wishes for, and Zheng Feiluan respects all of his decisions.

Zheng Feiluan scooped up Linglan again after holding the two chicks who had just learned to flutter. “Were you at Grandpa’s house?”

Linglan obediently said, “Yes.”

Then she remarked, like a tiny grownup, “Grandpa instructed me to be careful when I go out to play; I should follow closely and not run around.”

“That was to warn the two small children.” He An added, smiling, “They were too loud. They ran around the house all morning, tripping five or six times without pausing. When Linglan was two years old, she was like a tiny angel in comparison to them.”

“My dad just complains, but he’s happy inside.”

Zheng Feiluan bent down and calmly let Linglan down before approaching He An and holding his hand, “Is everything ready?”

He An nodded, “Yes, Mr. Zhou helped load two big pieces of luggage into the trunk. Our accommodation in Luotan Town has been vacated, and it is the same room where we previously lived. According to Cheng Xiu, Dai Xiao created a double-seated swing cradle a few days ago so that Lili and Jiujiu could get the same treatment as Linglan.”

Jiujiu heard his name but just slightly understood it, so he kept surrounding Zheng Feiluan’s legs.

Zheng Feiluan bent down and asked, “Baby, would you like to go to Luotan Town?”

Jiujiu: “Mm-hmm.”

“Why do you want to? What can you see at Luotan Town?”

Jiujiu couldn’t figure it out. After a long thought, he replied in a baby voice, “There’s a huge cat.”

In the past, he had heard his sister mention a huge, fluffy, warm, sluggish, and fat orange cat in Luotan Town. The cat didn’t pay much interest in people, but it wanted to lie next to them to stay warm.

He wanted to see it with his own eyes.

“A huge cat?” Zheng Feiluan and He An laughed at the same time.

Zheng Feiluan then picked up Jiujiu, carried him over his shoulder, and smiled, “Alright, let’s go. Daddy will take you to meet the huge cat.”

It’s early spring in March, and there are lots of sunny days in the courtyard.

Three years later, the Olive Inn in Luotan Town, which is thousands of miles away, is still the same. There was a white apricot tree moved into the garden. Dai Xiao took the garden shears and carefully trimmed the branches and leaves, as the plant’s flowers and branches had become too enormous.

Seated on a rattan chair, Cheng Xiu sipped the signature milk coffee from Cranberry Pastry House as he casually watched TV shows on his tablet.

He was surrounded by the refreshing shade of bougainvillea flowers. Liubailiu flopped comfortably in the middle of the swing cradle, gently rolling his belly and stretching his muscles. As the swing came to a stop, he let out a lazy meow, causing Cheng Xiu to give a hand.

“Keep lazing around… When those two little chicks arrive, there will not be enough space for you.”

Cheng Xiu grumbled, yet his hands still moved with impressive cooperation.

Dai Xiao let out a soft chuckle from behind.

“What’s so funny?!” Cheng Xiu felt a slight sense of humiliation, turning his head away and rolling his eyes.

Dai Xiao kept silent. He gently set the scissors aside, gathered the snapped branches and wilted flowers from the ground, and disposed of them in the trash can. He wandered to the gate of Olive Inn, paused with his hands in his pockets, and took in the familiar scenery with admiration.

Outside the gate, there’s a small bow-shaped bridge, and beneath it, a flock of fluffy ducks floats on the water.

Springtime is truly breathtaking.

Friends and family from far away are returning.
