最佳契合 (Perfect Match) – 十九瑶
Extra 1: Little Birds Hatching from their Eggs
When an omega is about to give birth and their alpha is still alive, they will rush back to be with them no matter how far away they are.
This is because of the pain-relieving properties of alpha pheromones.
Pheromones are a wonderful thing. Depending on the alpha’s state of mind, they can have three distinct effects: sexual arousal, intimidation, and relief. Sexual arousal, of course, works every time in bed; intimidation normally happens when the alpha is angry, and its role is to instantly repress the other person to reclaim control of the situation; and, in many situations, when the alpha’s mentality is calm, they let out soothing pheromones.
The most commonly used and most effective.
It can alleviate both the omega’s emotions and their pain. The greater the compatibility, the more effective the soothing effect.
According to the doctor’s information, for a perfectly compatible couple like He An and Zheng Feiluan, as long as they are fully at ease, He An will feel no pain from beginning to end and will be able to give birth to the baby with minimal effort, which is one of the benefits of a high level of compatibility.
All of this, however, requires that the alpha be sufficiently calm.
At first, Zheng Feiluan didn’t see it as an issue.
He has been CEO of Jiusheng for a long time and has seen events that most people could never imagine. As the phrase goes, business is like a gamble. There is no flashing of swords and blades at the high-end bargaining table, but there is actual immense pressure. After countless trials and tribulations, Zheng Feiluan’s mental endurance has grown extensively, so he rarely loses control of his emotions.
This is why, when he learned that he had mate-seeking syndrome, his initial reaction was an act of denial.
Of course, this is all from the past.
During the first eight months of He An’s pregnancy, Zheng Feiluan was an excellent alpha father. No matter how bouncy the two little birds were during the day, they would wiggle and stay quiet in He An’s body until Zheng Feiluan got home, where they could get more nutrition.
Zheng Feiluan likes it when He An comes to him with a big belly and says that his waist hurts, his legs are tingly, and he feels uncomfortable all over. He then asks him to help rub his belly, and if he does it too lightly, He An complains. He also says that Little Birds were misbehaving today, making it impossible for him to focus, and that Big Bird must be the one who taught them to behave that way, yet there is no sign of annoyance in his tone, which is filled with affection.
After acting flirtatiously, He An will be treated to a bath, allowing the hot water to cool off his body.
After wrapping himself in his pajamas, he would curl up in Zheng Feiluan’s arms. They would turn out the lights and talk about their jobs, their lives, Linglan, and their unborn children… He An was able to sleep soundly until sunrise thanks to the steady supply of soothing pheromones.
Two people ought to share the fatigue of pregnancy together. He An carries half of it during the day, while Zheng Feiluan carries the other half at night.
However, around the ninth month, Zheng Feiluan began to lose control of his emotions.
Or, more accurately, he just fell apart.
He still remembered the night He An gave birth to Linglan. There was far too much crying, blood loss, anxiety about life and death, and surprise. He An has already stepped out of the shadows, but Zheng Feiluan has not. He An didn’t refuse to forgive him, but as a remorseful culprit, he will never be able to forgive himself.
His memories carried a lingering scent of blood, and he trembled, constantly anxious that He An would face danger this time.
More and more, his panic and paranoia worsened as the due date drew near.
Sometimes the little birds were too lively, and He An panicked first, so he was unable to comfort He An and intensified his discomfort. Zheng Feiluan was so worried during the final pregnancy appointment that his palms were soaked and his temples became damp. with sweat The doctor looked at He An’s restless belly and said, “Mr. Zheng, why don’t you go outside and wait? He might be about to give birth if you stay a little longer.”
“I’m sorry.”
Zheng Feiluan felt like he had been smacked on the head and recovered from his trance, not daring to stay for another second. He looked up at He An and erratically stepped out of the clinic.
He An breathed out slowly as he looked over Zheng Feiluan’s back.
He could tell by his brief, quick glance that he was filled with guilt and unease.
⋮
Four days later, Zheng Feiluan had a chaotic nightmare late at night. It was as if he had fallen into pitch-black water, unable to see his hand in front of his face, and his hands and feet were ensnared in a fishing net. He felt suffocating until his chest ached, and he couldn’t get himself out of it. When he was about to drown, he broke free from his constraints, woke up sweating, and pushed himself up on the bed.
Raging alpha pheromones filled the bedroom.
He An slept next to him, droplets of sweat on his nose, forehead, and neck, his eyebrows knotted in pain, one hand pushed on his side belly, and the other instinctively grasped the bed sheet. Linglan was also shifting around in her small bed, clearly distressed.
I can’t stay here anymore.
His current emotional state can only add to the stress for He An and the children.
Zheng Feiluan had to leave the bedroom and walk into the living room, which was empty and quiet. He switched on the lamp, sat down on the couch, and scuffed his hair in frustration. He felt the weight of the room’s darkness pressing down on him like an invisible weight.
What should he do?
He An is due to give birth in the next two days, and he must be particularly present at this time. Other people’s alphas have far lower pheromone levels than his, but they all respond extremely well. He learned many ways to calm down, but in the end, it was all for nothing because he was too weak and scared to do anything.
He had nearly reached his breaking point.
Who could help him and get him out of that nightmare?
⋮
“Feiluan.”
He An’s voice was heard nearby.
He looked in the direction of the sound and saw He An standing at the center of light and darkness, carrying a nice blanket in his arms and dragging the tail on the ground.
“Why did you get up?” Zheng Feiluan instantly sprang up.
He An smiled but didn’t say anything. He slowly made his way to him and sat down with his help. He handed him part of the blanket that was smeared with his smell, grabbed his knees, and asked, “How about you? Why don’t you sleep in the bed instead of coming into the living room?”
“I… I have slight insomnia.” Zheng Feiluan created an excuse.
He An knew he made that up, “Tell the truth.”
Zheng Feiluan wiped his hands and said, “It’s really nothing.”
He An was helpless. He came closer to Zheng Feiluan and asked softly, “Feiluan, have you forgotten what Uncle Yan said? He told us we need to be honest with each other and talk every day if we move in together. Nothing is secret between us. He isn’t worried about anything else, but he is worried you won’t let go of your alpha pride. It looks like he was right to be worried. Your old habits haven’t changed at all.”
He An gently grasped Zheng Feiluan’s hand, their fingers intertwining as a gentle warmth spread between them.
“Feiluan, I’m your omega, your safe place, your home, and your little sun. I will never make fun of you or fight you. You can show vulnerability in front of me; everyone, including alphas, needs to show weakness too, don’t they? Saying things out loud can solve a lot of problems right away.”
He put Zheng Feiluan’s hand on his belly so that he could feel the bump through the blanket. Then he told the two little boys, “Come on, cheer up your alpha dad.”
The scene made Zheng Feiluan chuckle uncontrollably.
He tried to be relaxed, shrugged, and said, “I’m just… anxious that something will happen to you. Everything was normal while you were pregnant with Linglan, but I messed you up in the last couple of days. I’m terrified that this may happen again. Because of me, your delivery was more painful, stressful, and risky than others.”
He An cocked his head, leaned on his shoulder, and smiled, “Hey, what are you still hiding? I already knew back at the hospital. It’s pretty easy to guess.”
“Really?” Zheng Feiluan was taken by surprise.
“Yeah.” He An nodded proudly, “That’s why I told you not to hide it. I know everything about you.”
He paused, stared into Zheng Feiluan’s eyes, and spoke playfully, “You’re an alpha who looks calm and experienced in the eyes of others. You’re generally calmer than everyone else, yet you only panic over things that involve me. How could I blame you for that? I have nothing but respect for you.”
“He An…” Zheng Feiluan felt a warm rush through his heart.
“Close your eyes right now.” He An suddenly spoke.
Zheng Feiluan had no idea what he wanted to do, so he did as he was told. He felt He An softly rest his forehead against the curve of his neck, and his nose filled with the comforting fragrance of Lily of the Valley.
He An was calming him.
Just as He An had done for him on numerous evenings spent looking for a mate before.
“He An, don’t act like this…”
This is very physically exhausting, especially while He An is in labor.
Zheng Feiluan instinctively tried to stop him, but He An kept going. He shook his head and continued to offer Zheng Feiluan mild consolation until his tension calmed down and his heart was entirely at rest.
The calming pheromones of an omega are so cozy that they make people forget their struggles.
“Now it’s your turn. Let’s say the baby is ready to be born and I’m in pain. You try to reassure me; it’s not hard. Just do it once and it will be a lot easier later.” He An instructed him carefully, one step at a time.
“Okay.”
Zheng Feiluan embraced He An, kissed the back of his neck, and slowly let the pheromones escape – his heart was calm enough and his love was full, so the soothing pheromones reached the concentration required for alleviating the pain with no effort.
This is a mutually healing relationship.
“How does it feel?” he asked.
“Mmm… very nice, like soaking in a hot spring on a snowy day. I feel a little sleepy.” He An muttered, rubbed his belly, and pleaded, “A little more, it isn’t enough.”
Zheng Feiluan smiled and continued to work with him closely.
Soon after, Zheng Feiluan sighed, “It’s a shame that this isn’t the real thing. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to keep my thoughts calm when you give birth or if the soothing pheromones will still be effective.”
“Don’t worry, it works.”
Zheng Feiluan nuzzled his shoulder blade and said, “How do you have that much faith in me? You’re not even in labor yet.”
He An laughed quietly, “Who said I’m not?”
Zheng Feiluan thought about it for several seconds, and when he realized what his question meant, his face changed significantly. He clutched He An’s shoulders and positioned himself so that the light behind him would shine on He An’s face and then took a closer look—
He An had a moist and sweaty nose, short breaths, and a pale face.
“Is it happening?” Zheng Feiluan asked with worry.
“Uh-huh.”
“Does… does it hurt?”
He An gasped softly and tapped his forehead, “When you panic, it hurts even if it didn’t hurt before.”
It took Zheng Feiluan quite a bit of time to recover his rhythm after he nearly lost his bearings. He asked He An to relax again and asked with concern, “When did it begin?”
“It…” He An thought, “It was probably when you had a nightmare.”
“Why haven’t you told me sooner?”
“If I had told you sooner, you would have lost it by now.” He An laughed.
Zheng Feiluan was filled with emotion.
His omega, who had met such a tough situation in the middle of the night and was basically struggling to care for himself, came out of bed and softly spoke to him. After that, he still had to endure a long and stressful battle.
Who says omegas are weak by nature?
At the very least, his omega was naturally tougher and more powerful than him.
Zheng Feiluan hugged He An, allowing him to lean on his shoulder and close his eyes to relax, and comforted him, saying, “You’ve done all you should, so leave the rest to me. Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you again.”
The immense pressure that could bring down Zheng Feiluan came totally from himself. He couldn’t be stopped once he crossed this line.
⋮
As soon as the sun came up the following morning, two baby birds hatched from their eggs.
Lili is lively, and because he was born first, he’s the big brother. Jiujiu is not the same. He’s like a baby snail that moves very slowly. He still likes how safe he feels inside He An’s body and doesn’t want to leave.
He An had been up all night and used up most of his energy. His limbs cramped, and sweat soaked down his hospital gown. After more than thirty minutes trying to push Jiujiu out, he pulled up the last bits of his body energy and brought the little guy into this world. Relieved and huffing heavily, he then collapsed back onto the bed.
“Another little prince, just like his brother…” the nurse said as she wiped the infant’s body and smiled as she took him up, “Oh, actually, it’s a little omega prince this time.”
A little while later, two freshly cleaned little birds wrapped in blankets were brought in, one for each of them.
Tears welled up in Zheng Feiluan’s eyes as he looked at the frail newborn sobbing in his arms. He An didn’t feel too tired anymore, leaned on the bed’s head, rubbed Jiujiu’s clenched fist, and announced, “He looks to be a little smaller than Lili, doesn’t he?”
“Only a little.”
Zheng Feiluan compared the two brothers and explained, “At least his head is bigger than Lili’s.”
“That explains why it was harder to push him out.”
The thought made He An laugh out loud.
When Zheng Feiluan heard him say that, he became worried again. “Are you still hurting now?”
“The pain is gone. I feel like you’ve asked me this a million times. Why do you keep…”
Looking up at him, He An knew something was off. Suddenly, he turned his head smiling and said, “In terms of how well you helped with the birth, you did a great job today. You’re a perfect alpha; is that what you wanted me to say?”
“……”
Zheng Feiluan felt a strange and unexpected stab of embarrassment, and all he could do was give Lili a hug.
⋮
After coming home, Zheng Feiluan revived and swiftly turned into a dedicated father. He eagerly followed Mrs. Zhou’s instructions as she taught him how to put the two baby birds to sleep, change their diapers, burp them, and cover them in a blanket. Eventually, he learned how to do even hard tasks, like bathing them.
Zheng Feiluan was in charge of holding and calming a crying child in the middle of the night. He reacted with such urgency that He An was unable to get out of bed.
Zheng Feiluan could do everything else for them, but one thing.
Breastfeeding.
For the most part, He An had nothing else to do and rested at home while getting better.
After the little birds were a month old, Zheng Feiluan had no choice but to return to Jiusheng for work and unwillingly left his role as a stay-at-home dad.
When they were born, Lili and Jiujiu were sweet and strong. Sleeping side by side on two wooden beds, their vivid black pupils widened as they awoke. They spent the entire day nibbling their hands, giggling, drooling, and kicking their legs… Linglan adored them. Worried that her siblings would go missing, she hurried around in her white rabbit pajamas and made many trips to the baby room, occasionally stretching over the bed to peep inside.
Anytime they had people over, she would proudly and cautiously take them to see her brothers, as if she were showing off jewels in her hand.
⋮
As usual, He An went to the baby room when he couldn’t find Linglan outside. As he pushed open the door, he saw Linglan standing alone by the crib, watching her sleeping siblings with keen interest.
The room was cozy and peaceful with the curtains drawn low.
“I am a big sister.”
She jumped up and down with happiness as she turned her head to look at He An. Then she remembered to speak more quietly. Linglan said this line many times every day, and each time made her happy.
He An went over to her, knelt down, and gently touched her cheek, “Yes, you’re a big sister now.”
“You have… you have to love my brothers.”
Her speech was clumsy and awkward.
“Of course.” He An nodded and said, “We love them just as much as we love you.”
After giving it some thought, Linglan raised another index finger and said, “Not even a little… not less.”
“Okay, I promise it won’t be lesser in any way.”
He An smiled and embraced her warmly.
No one loves another less than the other in this warm and loving family of five.
