The young girl clearly hadn’t experienced a situation like this. She awkwardly let out an “Ah,” her face turning bright red, then quickly scurried back to her seat.
Qiu Yang rubbed her forehead, feeling a bit speechless. Why had she ever thought Wen Yuan was mature?
She found the answer in two seconds.
It was because Wen Yuan acted very steady and composed at the company, leading her to believe he was the same in private.
But after that little scene just now, Wen Yuan’s image in Qiu Yang’s mind had a stark contrast.
“Kids nowadays grow up fast,” Wen Yuan glanced at Qiu Yang’s expression and started explaining himself. “A friend of mine has a kid who just started fifth grade, already 1.78 meters tall, but his red scarf is still so bright.”
Qiu Yang picked up a fork from the table, lowering her gaze slightly. Then she heard Wen Yuan say with a chuckle, “Anyway, they all say I look young. It’s not too much to pretend to be a middle schooler, right?”
“You just said elementary school graduate, not middle school,” Qiu Yang looked at him. “You were pretending to be an elementary schooler.”
“Same difference, Jie.”
“I don’t randomly add girls on WeChat, let alone these are still little sisters.”
Qiu Yang forked a piece of dessert into her mouth. For a moment, she felt it was strange.
It was as if Wen Yuan was truly the younger brother she had watched grow up, reporting on his life to her.
She was momentarily lost in thought, swallowed the sweet treat, and then changed the subject: “What did you want to talk about?”
Wen Yuan reacted for a moment: “What?”
“You asked me to come here, what did you want to talk about?” Qiu Yang lifted her eyelids slightly, her voice soft.
Wen Yuan put down his fork. He looked around, then fixed his gaze on Qiu Yang’s face. He seemed a bit conflicted, then tentatively asked, “Jie, has Qiu Zheng’s family treated you very badly all these years?”
“Yes.”
“I…”
“After we had dinner together last time, I went to work on this matter.”
Wen Yuan said, scratching the back of his head again, looking a bit nervous.
Qiu Yang: “Okay.”
Qiu Yang looked into his eyes: “Go on.”
“Logically speaking, Qiu Zheng is also my uncle, but I have no desire to call him that at all. And that aunt, and the cousin I’ve never met…”
Qiu Yang said “Okay” again: “Qiu Wenyun is probably off chasing girls somewhere right now.”
“So that’s how it is,” Wen Yuan rested his elbows on the table, cupping his face in his palms, looking innocently at Qiu Yang. “I spent some time investigating what they did before. I was originally thinking about using some methods, but… Mom found out, and she simply bought that restaurant.”
“I don’t know if you knew about this.”
“So you were busy with this those few days I didn’t see you?” Qiu Yang caught the key point.
Wen Yuan didn’t expect Qiu Yang to ask that, then nodded: “Yes.”
His eyes were sincere: “I know we had a falling out before, but I still feel like you’re my sister, and I want to get justice for you…”
Qiu Yang held the fork, sighing inwardly.
She really didn’t have any ill feelings towards Wen Yuan. This younger brother only found out about her existence recently, and he hadn’t done anything wrong either before or after they met. During that dinner party, it was understandable that he stood by Qiu Yan.
Now that she had a little more contact with him, the emotional impact on her was deeper.
“Thank you,” Qiu Yang thanked him politely. She really didn’t know what else to say. The emotions brought by this half-brother were something she had never experienced before, leaving her feeling a bit flustered.
Wen Yuan was also a little awkward. He pursed his lips, then showed a smile: “You’re welcome.”
He paused: “Jie.”
Qiu Yang pushed a dessert towards him: “This one tastes good.”
Wen Yuan’s eyes lit up. He knew what Qiu Yang’s gesture meant, so he nodded vigorously: “Okay!”
The few high school graduate girls nearby left at this time. The girl who had come to ask Wen Yuan for his WeChat turned her head to look at him again, then sighed and left.
She knew he wasn’t really an elementary school graduate, but that he had a girlfriend sitting opposite him.
Qiu Yang happened to meet her gaze, and the whole situation left her speechless.
She felt it was quite obvious that she and Wen Yuan looked like siblings.
Seeing her fall silent, Wen Yuan became a little worried: “Jie, what’s wrong?”
Qiu Yang shook her head: “Nothing.” After thinking for a moment, she still said, “That girl just now probably thought you rejected her because I was sitting opposite you.”
Wen Yuan: “…”
Wen Yuan: “That’s ridiculous!”
The corner of Qiu Yang’s mouth curved slightly.
Wen Yuan cleared his throat, then slowly asked a question: “Jie, I heard some news recently.”
“What news?”
“It’s that people are saying you and the Director from Qiyao Company are in a relationship.”
“Yes, she is my partner,” Qiu Yang wasn’t shy at all.
“Okay, I understand. I happen to be going to Qiyao in a few days.”
Qiu Yang was taken aback: “What do you understand?”
“Well, she’s your partner, and I’m your brother. Shouldn’t I say something?”
Qiu Yang rubbed her forehead: “No need.”
She suddenly felt like a frog being boiled in warm water, because she was getting more and more used to Wen Yuan calling her “Jie”.
Wen Yuan: “Oh.”
There were too many desserts on the table. Qiu Yang only ate one, and the rest would look better if they were packed up. Wen Yuan hadn’t eaten much either. As the meeting came to an end, Qiu Yang suggested Wen Yuan take them back to share with his employees.
They hadn’t been touched; not taking them would be a waste.
Wen Yuan grinned: “Okay, I’ll have Secretary Lin distribute them.”
In the week since Qiu Yang resigned, Qi Rong had sent Qiu Yang messages several times, mostly expressing how much she missed her, and occasionally sending some company gossip. She still had some feelings for Wanming, but she knew deep down that she definitely wouldn’t go back.
Wen Yuan also knew this, so he didn’t try to persuade her to stay. However, when they parted, he couldn’t help but ask, “Can we have dinner together again next time, Jie?”
Qiu Yang didn’t answer immediately: “I’m busy with something lately, let’s see.”
“What are you busy with?” Wen Yuan became curious.
“Photography Competition.”
“Then you’ll definitely win an award, Jie.”
Qiu Yang smiled: “I’m leaving.”
She couldn’t put on a stern face towards someone so sincere.
Wen Yuan freed up a hand to hold the umbrella for her until she got into the car. Qiu Yang rolled down the passenger window and said to him, “The deadline for the Photography Competition registration is the 25th.”
“Then I’ll call you on the 25th!”
Qiu Yang nodded, gripped the steering wheel, and drove away. She didn’t go straight home but went to a few more places to take photos. Finally, when it was almost time for Shen Ningruo to get off work, she went to Qiyao.
As soon as Shen Ningruo saw Qiu Yang, her eyes curved into a smile: “Xiao Yang.”
She asked with concern, “How was the lunch with President Wen?”
“Not bad,” Qiu Yang walked shoulder-to-shoulder with her towards the parking area. “If it weren’t for my mom’s issues, my attitude would definitely be very different.”
Shen Ningruo pinched her face: “Just follow your heart.”
Qiu Yang’s eyes curved: “Following my heart probably means that maybe I won’t have contact with my mom in the future, but I might keep in touch with this brother.”
“Okay.”
After returning home, Qiu Yang sat in front of the computer again to edit photos. She had taken a set of landscape photos today, which weren’t suitable for the competition but were good for posting on Weibo.
Her photography Weibo had been updated frequently these past few days, surprising her followers. Qiu Yang selected a few comments to reply to.
Le Yu’s call came in right after she posted on Weibo.
Qiu Yang’s eyes were on the laptop screen, and she put the call on speakerphone: “Senior.”
“Xiao Qiu Yang.”
“Are you free this weekend?”
Qiu Yang was startled by the question: “I’m free the day after tomorrow, not tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow I need to take Ruoruo home.”
Shen Yuankai’s illness couldn’t be ignored.
Le Yu pondered for a few seconds: “Alright, the day after tomorrow is fine too.”
“What’s up, Senior?” Qiu Yang finally looked at her phone screen.
Shen Ningruo walked in from the living room holding Pingzi and saw Qiu Yang on the phone with Le Yu. The sound she was about to make was cut short.
“Hey, it’s nothing big, it’s just that I have another crush.”
Qiu Yang: “…”
Shen Ningruo: “…”
They exchanged glances, feeling a bit subtle, because they clearly remembered the incident with the rainbow-haired girl and the other girl last time, and they were afraid Le Yu had misjudged someone again this time.
Le Yu’s voice rang out: “Hey? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Senior, what’s her profession, identity, and age?”
“A female university student, only 20 this year.”
Shen Ningruo couldn’t help but laugh: “Oh, Miss Le, the saying ‘an old ox eats tender grass’ must have been tailor-made for you, right?”
Even though she knew Le Yu had no feelings for Qiu Yang, Shen Ningruo still liked to tease Le Yu.
Le Yu: “What the hell do you know?”
Le Yu cursed: “A full stomach doesn’t know the hunger of an empty one!”
“I’m not a ‘Hanzi’ (man),” Shen Ningruo laughed.
Le Yu sighed deeply: “Anyway, she’s just a little sister. I met her online before, and she follows me around every day calling me ‘Jiejie’. After a while, even an immortal couldn’t resist.”
Qiu Yang and Shen Ningruo exchanged glances again and made a decision: “Then tell us what we’re doing the day after tomorrow in advance, and we’ll come.”
“Okay~”
“That’s it.”
Before the call ended, Pingzi meowed at this moment. Le Yu laughed on the other end of the phone: “Hear that? Pangpang is wishing me success.”
After saying that, she hung up without hesitation.
Shen Ningruo bent down and put Pingzi down. She leaned against the desk and said with some concern, “I have reservations about Le Yu’s taste. She’s not as lucky as me; she can’t find the right person at first glance.”
Qiu Yang: “Mhm, mhm.”
Qiu Yang pulled her hand: “The right person also wants you to try that position tonight.”
Shen Ningruo immediately pinched her earlobe: “Xiao Yang, Xiao Yang, I see you’re getting bolder and bolder now.”
“How am I getting bolder?”
“I was just stating my expectation.”
Shen Ningruo chuckled: “I have expectations too.”
“Please tell me.”
Shen Ningruo pointed to the cabinet: “The sexy pajamas I bought on Children’s Day last time, could you wear them tonight…?”
Qiu Yang blinked: “Ruoruo Jiejie, aren’t I most beautiful when I wear nothing?”
“…”
