Qiu Yang stared at those four words for a moment, then looked into Shen Ningruo’s eyes. She didn’t have any other reaction, just felt that Shen Ningruo looked even more like a dog wagging its tail at this moment.
“No need to put mine,” Qiu Yang refused directly. She looked at the photo of Shen Ningruo she had taken in the frame, a smile curving her lips, and said naturally, “Yours is already very good.”
Shen Ningruo lowered her hand and hummed a response through her nose.
Qiu Yang’s words had dampened her mood, but she still didn’t dare to show it too obviously. She typed a line in her phone’s memo: 【You’re right.】
She actually knew why Qiu Yang refused her; their relationship simply hadn’t reached that point.
Putting someone else’s photo in your room could be considered part of an intimate list.
Even though they had kissed many times, even though they had both been to each other’s homes, even though they interacted quite closely.
But their current situation still hadn’t reached the point where Qiu Yang would put her photo by her bedside.
Physical intimacy was one thing, but intimacy in daily life was another. Qiu Yang had always kept them separate.
Shen Ningruo knew this.
The atmosphere fell silent. Qiu Yang stood up. “I’ll get you some more water.”
“It’ll help you sleep after you drink it.”
Shen Ningruo nodded again as her answer. Watching Qiu Yang leave the bedroom, she raised her hand to touch her forehead.
The temperature there showed no sign of dropping, but what made her feel even more uncomfortable right now was the situation with Qiu Yang.
It took effort to confirm one’s feelings for another person; it wasn’t something that could be rushed.
Qiu Yang rushing over as soon as she knew she was sick undoubtedly touched Shen Ningruo deeply. Watching Qiu Yang busy herself for her, watching Qiu Yang do this and that for her, her heart softened completely, but besides that, many complex emotions were swirling around her.
For example, that night Qiu Yang had been drinking, she had rushed to find Qiu Yang, but did Qiu Yang only feel gratitude towards her?
Her mind was still a bit muddled now; she couldn’t figure it out and didn’t want to think about it anymore.
Getting a glass of water didn’t take long. Qiu Yang came back with a little over half a cup of warm water. After watching Shen Ningruo drink it, she finally relaxed completely. “Are you sleepy?”
Medication had side effects, and drowsiness was one of them.
Even though Shen Ningruo had slept for a long time today.
“A little,” Shen Ningruo replied this time, not just nodding or shaking her head. She spoke, though her voice hadn’t changed at all. However, she looked a bit better than when they first met.
“Then try to sleep.”
“What about you?” Shen Ningruo spoke with some difficulty, her gaze fixed on Qiu Yang sitting by the bed.
A large portion of the light fell on Qiu Yang, bathing her in a soft glow.
Shen Ningruo’s eyelashes trembled slightly, unsure of what she was thinking at this moment.
Or perhaps she was thinking of everything—
Qiu Yang’s mouth was very beautiful and tasted very sweet.
Qiu Yang’s chin wasn’t as exaggeratedly sharp as before.
Qiu Yang’s eyes seemed brighter than before.
“I’ll go back after you fall asleep.”
Qiu Yang stated plainly that she had no plans to stay here. The main reason was that she had come in a hurry and forgotten to bring her fluorescent green suitcase; otherwise, she could have stayed at Shen Ningruo’s place.
Shen Ningruo’s thoughts were completely pulled back by Qiu Yang’s words. She was slightly stunned.
She thought Qiu Yang would stay here tonight, but she wasn’t?
Disappointment piled up instantly, quickly forming a small mountain, crushing Shen Ningruo.
Perhaps because a cold really did make people more vulnerable, the thought made Shen Ningruo feel even more uncomfortable, bringing with it a lot of hurt. Her eyes quickly turned red.
She had even made a whimpering sound, and Qiu Yang still wasn’t going to stay.
Qiu Yang saw her obvious change and immediately became worried. “Are you uncomfortable?”
Shen Ningruo looked at her quietly. In less than two seconds, tears flowed from the corners of her eyes, dripping onto the pillow and hiding there.
Qiu Yang had known Shen Ningruo for over half a month, and this was the first time she had seen Shen Ningruo look like this. Her heart felt a little squeezed, so she quickly pulled out two tissues from the side to wipe away Shen Ningruo’s tears.
She wiped and soothed her at the same time. “Don’t cry, okay?”
“If you’re still very uncomfortable, then let’s go to the hospital.”
Shen Ningruo closed her eyes. Qiu Yang’s movements as she wiped her tears were very gentle, as if afraid of hurting her.
But the more Qiu Yang comforted her like this, the sadder she felt.
Although she wasn’t yet sure if her feelings for Qiu Yang were just other emotions at play, she was certain that Qiu Yang had no feelings for her at all.
None at all.
Thinking this, Shen Ningruo felt a little breathless and started coughing again, which made Qiu Yang think she was physically uncomfortable.
Qiu Yang’s worry was evident on her face. “Let’s still go to the hospital, Shen Ningruo.”
Shen Ningruo shook her head, answering between coughs, “I’m not going.”
“Don’t be stubborn.”
“Your cold is very serious.”
Shen Ningruo continued to cough, and a few more tears came out, falling onto the quilt and disappearing.
Qiu Yang sat by the side and didn’t say anything else. She could understand why someone like Shen Ningruo, who had a psychological shadow from getting an injection, would be very resistant to going to the hospital.
The medication hadn’t started working yet. If she wasn’t better by tomorrow, it wouldn’t be too late to go to the hospital.
So Qiu Yang spoke again. “Okay.”
“We won’t go.”
“I won’t go back tonight either.”
Shen Ningruo heard these words clearly. Her emotions eased. After her coughing subsided, she looked at Qiu Yang pitifully, nodded, and said in a whisper, “Okay.”
Qiu Yang was indeed worried. She had received a lot of care from Shen Ningruo, and this was almost like repaying a debt in a different way.
She still didn’t want to owe Shen Ningruo anything.
“Then I’ll order some of my daily necessities for delivery.”
Shen Ningruo was already lying down, pulling the quilt up, only her face showing. Hearing this, she blinked her eyes as an answer.
Qiu Yang bought a toothbrush, a towel, a bath towel, and a new set of underwear.
She stayed by Shen Ningruo’s bed, looking at her phone, occasionally glancing at Shen Ningruo.
Shen Ningruo felt sleepy, but she insisted on staying awake. She was afraid Qiu Yang would still leave, even though that was impossible.
Their eyes met many times, but neither spoke, their minds filled with many thoughts.
After a while, Shen Ningruo reached for her phone and tapped on it.
Qiu Yang thought she was going to show it to her, but instead, she sent it as a text message.
Just like when they had been apart before.
【Besides doctors, you’re the first person to take care of me like this.】
The line wasn’t long; it could be read in a second.
But looking at it, Qiu Yang felt a little heavy. She scrolled through the screen with her fingertip, read it several more times, and then looked up at Shen Ningruo.
Actually, it was clear from this quiet residence that Shen Ningruo’s contact with her family wasn’t frequent, perhaps even sparse.
But Qiu Yang hadn’t expected it to be a little more difficult than she thought.
Shen Ningruo’s eyes curved, and she opened her mouth again, saying with effort, “Thank you.”
Qiu Yang pursed her lips. “You’re welcome.”
As she spoke, she leaned over, her actions uncontrolled by her mind, and kissed Shen Ningruo’s forehead. “I won’t leave. Sleep.”
These words seemed to have magic. Shen Ningruo’s sleepiness instantly doubled, overwhelming her.
She slept for a long time, but because she went to bed early, it was only seven-thirty when she woke up.
Qiu Yang’s alarm was set for seven-forty; Shen Ningruo knew this.
Because she had woken up at that time yesterday.
Her nose wasn’t as stuffy, and her temperature was back to normal, but her throat was still a little uncomfortable, and her head was still a bit fuzzy.
Compared to last night, she was much better.
Shen Ningruo gently turned over and looked at Qiu Yang lying beside her.
Qiu Yang had no bad sleeping habits; she didn’t kick off the covers, didn’t snore, didn’t grind her teeth, and even in her sleep, she was incredibly well-behaved.
Shen Ningruo looked at her long eyelashes, feeling a little itchy. She slowly reached out and touched them, seeing Qiu Yang’s eyebrows furrow slightly.
Shen Ningruo didn’t dare to disturb her further and immediately withdrew her hand, wanting Qiu Yang to sleep a few more minutes.
But it had to be said, this scene was beautiful, something Shen Ningruo had never imagined before.
So this is what it felt like to be cared for when you’re sick.
She was almost 28 this year. Was she experiencing this a bit late? Shen Ningruo pondered the answer.
And the moment the alarm rang and Qiu Yang opened her eyes, Shen Ningruo felt that she didn’t need to think about the answer herself anymore.
It wasn’t late.
As long as that person was Qiu Yang, she wouldn’t feel it was late.
