PSMD – Chapter 55

Qiu Yang had considered that the person knocking might be Miao Yi, but she never expected it to be Tao Sixian. She froze for two seconds, her first instinct being to close the door.

Tao Sixian, however, was a step ahead, pushing her foot into the gap and placing her palm on the door.

The door couldn’t be successfully closed.

Qiu Yang’s face darkened. She had nothing to say to Tao Sixian, especially after Tao Sixian had just called her “Yangyang” in such a cheerful tone, which made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

“I want to talk to you,” Tao Sixian said, her expression outwardly calm and still wearing a smile.

“There’s nothing to talk about with you.”

“I really miss Pingzi.”

“Don’t be angry with me anymore, Yangyang, I apologize to you.”

“I was wrong before, I shouldn’t have hidden it from you or deceived you, but it’s been a month now, you should have cooled down, right? You never used to get angry with me.”

Qiu Yang already felt like a fool for having liked Tao Sixian in the past. Now that Tao Sixian dared to bring up the past in front of her, she was even more furious.

Yes, she had rarely gotten angry with Tao Sixian before, because she couldn’t bear to.

This was the person she liked, the person she held dear. Qiu Yang couldn’t bear to be angry.

But times were different now.

Only the door separated them, and Qiu Yang could clearly see Tao Sixian’s face. She pursed her lips and saw Tao Sixian’s eyes curve into a smile: “Yangyang, aren’t you tired like this?”

Qiu Yang’s mind processed this for a moment, then she released her hand, no longer pressing against the door.

Tao Sixian immediately stepped inside: “I knew you’d let me in, Yangyang.”

“Because I like you so much.”

Qiu Yang didn’t respond to Tao Sixian’s words. She walked to the side, silently picked up a cup, and went into the kitchen.

Tao Sixian didn’t follow. She stayed in the living room, looking at Pingzi, confirming once again that the video she saw online was indeed Pingzi.

This cat was very popular now, perfect for becoming an internet celebrity cat.

Qiu Yang came out with a glass of water. Tao Sixian turned to look at her: “I saw the video of you carrying Pingzi out. I wasn’t sure at first.”

Qiu Yang: “Mm.”

“Yangyang, have you considered creating an account for Pingzi? It’s better behaved than most cats, and surely many businesses will come knocking for collaborations. Then you’ll…”

Qiu Yang didn’t wait for her to finish, splashing the cold water she had just poured onto her.

“Ah!” Tao Sixian shrieked, brushing her wet hair away from her face. She stared at Qiu Yang, the smile gone from her face, “What are you doing?”

“Oh, I promised a friend I’d splash water on you if I saw you.”

“I thought I wouldn’t get the chance, thank you.”

Qiu Yang spoke lightly, appearing completely unconcerned, as if splashing water on Tao Sixian was truly just completing a task.

Water dripped down Tao Sixian’s hair, which had been fluffy but now clung to her scalp. She had specifically worn a little dress today, but the water had soaked more than half of her neckline.

There was also a small puddle on the floor, reflecting the living room lights.

Tao Sixian’s lips were tightly pressed together. The Qiu Yang in front of her now seemed like a completely different person from before.

Qiu Yang lazily lifted her eyelids: “You want me to turn Pingzi into an internet celebrity cat to make money, right?”

“Tao Sixian.” Her tone was full of distance.

Tao Sixian tried to compose herself, pushing a strand of hair from her forehead.

Qiu Yang glanced at the pitiful Pingzi in the corner and couldn’t help but show a mocking expression. “You keep saying you miss Pingzi, but in the past two years, have you ever bought cat food for Pingzi even once? No, right?”

“Everything it eats and uses was bought by me. Did you spend a single cent?”

“It needs chicken breast every night. Have you ever cooked it a single meal?”

“When it was in heat, you found it annoying and went out to sleep with your fiancé, didn’t you?”

“Now Pingzi has gained attention from netizens, you see a business opportunity, and you come knocking. You’re not here to apologize, you just want to cash in. Am I wrong?”

“Tao Sixian.”

“I’m just giving you advice.” Tao Sixian calmed down. She was feeling uncomfortable being soaked by a glass of water, having lost her usual ladylike demeanor, but she felt that didn’t matter. Convincing Qiu Yang was more important. “Being an internet celebrity makes money much faster than your nine-to-five job. Don’t you want to give Pingzi and yourself a better life?”

Hearing her say this, Qiu Yang couldn’t help but tighten her grip on the cup. She scoffed, “What right do you have to give me advice?”

“Just because you’re a scumbag who deceives people’s feelings?”

“I didn’t deceive your feelings. I said I liked you, why don’t you believe me?”

“Didn’t you feel my affection for you, Yangyang?”

Tao Sixian looked like she was about to cry, and being soaked made her look even more pathetic.

“Oh? Liked me?”

“Liking me means telling me we have a spiritual relationship and then going to sleep with a man?”

“Well, your kind of liking is truly special.”

Tao Sixian had always thought Qiu Yang was very docile, would believe anything she said, wouldn’t be suspicious or doubt things randomly, and could also cook very well. In Tao Sixian’s eyes, Qiu Yang was the ideal life partner; with Qiu Yang around, she could avoid many troubles.

She knew before that Qiu Yang liked her very much, so she had always taken advantage of this. She didn’t pay rent, she didn’t take care of the cat, leaving everything to Qiu Yang.

Because she knew Qiu Yang lacked love, Qiu Yang wouldn’t leave her.

If it weren’t for the wedding date approaching and it being impossible to hide any longer, Tao Sixian wouldn’t have confessed to Qiu Yang.

But she was very certain that Qiu Yang would forgive her. Why? Because Qiu Yang liked her. She was the person Qiu Yang would call out in her dreams at night.

Qiu Yang’s anger was within her expectations, as was being deleted and blocked.

Tao Sixian wasn’t annoyed. She was willing to generously give Qiu Yang time to cool down. Once she had calmed down, she would contact Qiu Yang again, and Qiu Yang would surely soften and talk to her properly.

Pingzi suddenly becoming popular was an opportunity to come knocking.

But Qiu Yang’s actions were completely unexpected, and being questioned by Qiu Yang like this left her somewhat bewildered.

This was not the Qiu Yang she remembered.

Tao Sixian’s lips moved. Just as she was about to say something, a pleasant female voice came from the doorway—

“Xiao Yang.”

“I told you you shouldn’t have burned paper money for your ex on Qingming Festival. Now look, you’re being haunted, aren’t you?”

Shen Ningruo leaned against the doorway, her eyes full of amusement. She had just arrived but could immediately identify Tao Sixian. Excellent, Qiu Yang had splashed water on Tao Sixian, making her look disheveled and comical.

“Who are you?” Tao Sixian narrowed her eyes, deliberately ignoring what the other person said, looking at the beautiful stranger at the door.

Shen Ningruo familiarly changed into slippers, not bothering to answer Tao Sixian’s question, but casually said, “I just called security. They said they’ll be here soon.”

She said this, then looked at Tao Sixian, a slight smile on her lips: “Please get out.”

Tao Sixian’s thoughts were in a mess. Her gaze darted back and forth between Shen Ningruo and Qiu Yang, then she let out a light laugh, her feigned pitiful look disappearing. “I wondered why you weren’t sad at all after breaking up with me. So you had already found someone else to take over?”

“If that’s the case, what right do you have to criticize me, Qiu Yang? We’re two of a kind.”

“Heh heh.”

After saying this, Tao Sixian stepped forward in her high heels. As she passed Shen Ningruo, she paused, turned her head to glance at Shen Ningruo, then let out two cold snorts and lifted her foot to leave.

Only after the door closed did Qiu Yang tiredly lower her hand, the cup still tightly clutched, unable to let go.

Shen Ningruo walked up to her, bent down, took the cup from her hand, placed it on the coffee table, and then wrapped her arms around Qiu Yang’s waist, holding her.

Qiu Yang’s hands gripped Shen Ningruo’s clothes, her chin resting on Shen Ningruo’s shoulder. She blinked, trying to chase away the sourness.

Shen Ningruo patted her back, her touch very light.

Neither of them spoke. This posture lasted for a few minutes before Qiu Yang spoke in a normal tone: “I have a business trip tomorrow.”

Shen Ningruo’s patting stopped for a moment: “Okay, be careful, and I hope everything goes smoothly.”

She didn’t ask where she was going or when she would be back, afraid that too many questions would make Qiu Yang feel annoyed.

Shen Ningruo herself was like this; when she was in a bad mood, if the other person kept asking questions, she would only feel more irritated.

After hugging for a while, Qiu Yang released her hands and stood up straight: “I’m a bit tired. I’ll go take a shower first.”

“Okay.” Shen Ningruo asked again, “Where’s the mop?”

There was still a puddle of water on the floor that needed to be cleaned up.

Qiu Yang was startled, instinctively about to say “I’ll mop,” but Shen Ningruo spoke first: “You go take a shower, I’ll mop.”

Qiu Yang looked at Shen Ningruo’s natural expression, paused for a second, then said “Okay”: “It’s on the balcony.”

“Thank you,” she added.

Thank you for coming out and helping her get rid of Tao Sixian just now.

Shen Ningruo knew what her thanks meant: “You’re welcome.”

“It’s what I should do,” Shen Ningruo added three words.

Qiu Yang’s lips curved into a forced smile, then she went into the bedroom to get her pajamas.

It had to be said that Tao Sixian still had some presence in Qiu Yang’s mind. Her words replayed over and over again.

-So you had already found someone else to take over?

-What right do you have to criticize me, Qiu Yang? We’re two of a kind.

It was very unpleasant.

Qiu Yang felt uncomfortable every time she thought about it. Tao Sixian didn’t seem to think she had done anything wrong.

Why hadn’t she realized before that beneath Tao Sixian’s pure face was hidden such a monstrous facade?

Shen Ningruo came out after drying her hair and saw Qiu Yang packing her luggage. She picked up Pingzi and sat on the edge of the bed: “Pangpang, your mom is leaving tomorrow. Will you miss her?”

Pingzi didn’t even meow this time. Shen Ningruo smiled at Qiu Yang: “It says it will miss you.”

Qiu Yang stopped folding clothes. She looked at the harmonious scene of Shen Ningruo holding Pingzi, and the gloom in her heart dissipated by two points.

“Okay,” Qiu Yang replied and continued packing.

Shen Ningruo’s eyelids drooped slightly. She could clearly sense Qiu Yang’s mood at the moment but didn’t know how to offer comfort, as any comfort now might seem superfluous.

Qiu Yang looked up at Shen Ningruo, remembering something: “Oh, right, I’ll take Pangpang to my senior’s place tomorrow and ask her to look after it for a while.”

“I won’t trouble you.”
