PSMD – Chapter 56

Qiu Yang spoke very calmly, but her words felt like a large stone dropped into Shen Ningruo’s heart. She hadn’t actually thought about the cat situation after Qiu Yang left for her business trip tomorrow, and Qiu Yang’s words had brought it to her attention.

The more she thought about that sentence, the more uncomfortable she felt, because it seemed to suddenly create a great distance between them.

Taking care of a cat wasn’t that much trouble, yet Qiu Yang said she wouldn’t trouble her, her words full of politeness and distance.

“Won’t trouble me anymore?” Shen Ningruo pondered the meaning of the sentence. She looked into Qiu Yang’s eyes, unsure how to react for a moment.

After saying it, Qiu Yang herself realized something was off. Given Shen Ningruo’s fondness for Pingzi, helping look after the cat wasn’t really a bother. But the words were already out, and Shen Ningruo had even questioned her to confirm, so she could only force herself to “Mhm” in response. “You live quite far.”

Only a bedside lamp was on in the bedroom, casting warm yellow light on their faces. The flickering light revealed their expressions.

Listening to Qiu Yang’s reason, Shen Ningruo lowered her gaze slightly, her lips moving as she responded, “Yes.”

“You’re right.”

After saying that, she picked up Pingzi and placed him on the climbing frame in the living room. Only then did she go wash her hands before returning to the bedroom.

Qiu Yang was still packing when she saw Shen Ningruo throw back the covers and get into bed, quickly closing her eyes. “I’m tired.”

“Going to sleep now, Xiao Yang.”

“After all, my commute to work is quite far.”

Qiu Yang could hear the anger in her words, but in the end, she said nothing, only wishing her “Goodnight.”

Her words had been impulsive, that was true, but Qiu Yang then thought that perhaps they were just right.

Lately, she had been constantly thinking about her relationship with Shen Ningruo, but she hadn’t come up with any conclusions. The three days apart during the holiday had made her longing surge, which made Qiu Yang feel a bit apprehensive.

If the full score was 100, then Shen Ningruo could get 101.

Shen Ningruo had excellent looks, an outstanding demeanor, was a director at a large company at 28, had a great personality, and was very sincere…

Listing Shen Ningruo’s strengths, there were indeed many.

It was just that sometimes Qiu Yang couldn’t tell if what Shen Ningruo said was true or false, which left her feeling confused.

For example, when Shen Ningruo had said she missed her.

Did she miss her as a person, or did she miss her body?

Qiu Yang didn’t know the answer.

Frankly speaking, maintaining this kind of relationship as bed partners without getting in each other’s way felt quite good. There would be fewer other messy things in their world, and even their attraction was purely physical, very simple.

But Qiu Yang still felt something wasn’t right.

When Shen Ningruo first came to her, they had talked about “repaying a debt,” but now, more than half a month later, the nature of the debt repayment had completely changed. They hugged, kissed, went to bed, and slept together. Everything felt natural, and no one mentioned what would happen after the debt was repaid.

They left marks on each other, like stamping and marking, as if this relationship would last a long time, with no end in sight.

But it shouldn’t be like this.

Qiu Yang had never thought it would turn out this way.

She had clearly intended to end this interaction with Shen Ningruo as soon as possible so she could prepare herself for the next relationship.

But spending time with Shen Ningruo, the train had inexplicably deviated from its original track, heading towards a place unknown to Qiu Yang. She didn’t know the destination; she only felt lost.

After finishing her packing, Qiu Yang was also tired. Tao Sixian’s arrival tonight had exhausted her. She threw back the covers and got into bed, falling asleep not long after.

The business trip team was scheduled for a 1 PM flight, requiring them to arrive at the airport around 11 AM. For Qiu Yang, there was still plenty of time, and she woke up much later than usual.

Shen Ningruo had already gone to work. When Qiu Yang opened her eyes, she only saw the empty spot beside her, where there were still traces of someone having slept there.

Everything from last night came back to Qiu Yang’s mind. She raised her hand to rub her forehead before getting up to wash.

Yue Chu usually worked the night shift, so she was free in the morning. She drove to the parking lot of Qiu Yang’s residential complex around 9:30 AM.

Qiu Yang had already packed everything Pingzi would need for the three days, waiting for Yue Chu’s arrival.

Not long after, there was a knock on the door.

After the incident last night where Tao Sixian was at the door, Qiu Yang now felt a bit wary about opening it.

Fortunately, this time it was Yue Chu, whom she had called.

“Jie,” Qiu Yang secretly breathed a sigh of relief. “You’re here.”

Yue Chu’s eyes lit up. “Where’s the cat?”

“In the cat carrier,” Qiu Yang pointed in a direction.

Pingzi had two cat carriers, one backpack style and one handheld. Qiu Yang had put him in the handheld one today.

Through the mesh, Pingzi’s curious gaze could be seen.

There were quite a few things to move, including a litter box, but since Yue Chu had a car, it wasn’t too inconvenient.

Pingzi was placed in the back seat, and Qiu Yang sat in the passenger seat, listening to Yue Chu talk to her. “I have some friends in Jingcheng. If you need any help, just let me know.”

Yue Chu had stayed in Jingcheng for several years and had some connections. Qiu Yang nodded. “Okay, I won’t hesitate to ask.”

“How about this?”

“Yangyang.”

“I’ll send you the WeChat of one of my friends. Add her; she’s in Jingcheng.”

Qiu Yang waved her hand. “No need, Jie. I’m going to Jingcheng for a business trip; I probably won’t have time to sightsee.”

“You misunderstood me,” Yue Chu chuckled. “She knows a lot about the food in Jingcheng. If you need to order takeout later, she can give you recommendations.”

Qiu Yang: “…Alright.”

Yue Chu recommended it so sincerely that she had no reason to refuse further, and what Yue Chu said did make her heart flutter.

Getting bad takeout was a terrible experience.

Pingzi adapted to the new environment in just a minute and started having fun on his own. Qiu Yang watched him sniff here and sniff there, feeling a little speechless.

Was this cat afraid of nothing?

Yue Chu liked cats, and she had already started playing with Pingzi using a cat wand. As if remembering something, she said, “Yangyang, there was a very popular cat video a couple of days ago. That cat looks so much like Pingzi.”

“That’s him.”

Qiu Yang now knew how quickly information spread online; a cat video had actually been seen by so many people.

Yue Chu was a little surprised, then showed a gentle smile. “Your cat and you are both quite likable.”

Yue Chu meant it sincerely. Spending time with Qiu Yang was very comfortable, which was why Yue Chu had felt increasingly guilty in the past few years, feeling she had let Qiu Yang down.

Being praised by Yue Chu made Qiu Yang feel much better. She raised her wrist to check the time; it was about time to leave.

“Jie, I’ll head off now.”

Yue Chu turned her head. “So early?”

“I’ll drive you to the airport.”

“No, it’s fine, I’ll just take a taxi myself.” Qiu Yang glanced at Pingzi. “It’s too much trouble for you to go back and forth. I can manage on my own.”

She didn’t have much luggage, just a small suitcase, but it wasn’t the fluorescent green one; it was a more low-key silver one.

Seeing her insist, Yue Chu nodded. “Okay.”

Qiu Yang hugged Pingzi again before saying goodbye to Yue Chu.

Yuncheng had sunshine again today, warm and comfortable on the skin.

Qiu Yang pulled her suitcase out of Yue Chu’s complex, hailed a taxi by the roadside, and gave the airport terminal address.

The scenery outside the window flew by. Qiu Yang’s eyelashes fluttered, and the corners of her mouth, which had been turned up, unconsciously drooped when she thought of Shen Ningruo.

Things with Shen Ningruo were so tricky.

Thinking this, Qiu Yang lowered her gaze, opened WeChat, and then opened the chat window with Shen Ningruo.

Her fingertip hovered over it for a long time before she finally pressed back.

Shen Ningruo had woken up today, Qiu Yang had sensed it, but she hadn’t opened her eyes.

After Shen Ningruo changed her clothes, she went to wash up, then dried her face, and subsequently sat by the bed, tucking in the quilt for Qiu Yang.

Qiu Yang could feel Shen Ningruo’s gaze, but she didn’t dare to open her eyes, so she continued to pretend to be asleep.

After about ten seconds, she heard a heavy sigh, and a warm, soft touch appeared on her forehead.

Shen Ningruo kissed her forehead, her voice low: “I’ll miss you more than the cat.”

“Then will you miss me?”
