PSMD – Chapter 62

Shen Ningruo hadn’t expected Qiu Yang to kiss her, or to call her “Ruoruo,” or to use such a spoiled tone.

She had thought Qiu Yang might give her a fake smile, pretending she could smile just as brightly in front of her, and even if it was just perfunctory, Shen Ningruo would have been happy.

Of course, Qiu Yang’s actual reaction made her even happier.

Because it was rare.

Aside from the first week after Qiu Yang’s breakup, they had met frequently, and Shen Ningruo felt she had seen many sides of Qiu Yang.

Her seriousness at work, her melancholy when recalling her ex, her gentleness with Pingzi, her dazed look when kissing, and her playful teasing… Shen Ningruo had seen many, many facets of her.

But only at this moment did she realize that Qiu Yang had even more sides she hadn’t imagined. For instance, right now, Qiu Yang was acting spoiled towards her, just to keep her from being angry.

Shen Ningruo had never been coaxed like this since she was a child; usually, she was the one doing the teasing. Could she possibly resist Qiu Yang using such a tone to coax her?

Especially since this was the first time Qiu Yang had ever acted spoiled.

Shen Ningruo’s sudden irritation vanished instantly. She looked into Qiu Yang’s eyes and immediately smiled, “I’m not angry.”

“It’s normal that you didn’t smile at me like that before.”

Qiu Yang’s breakup wasn’t fake; it would be too much to ask her to laugh heartily. All Shen Ningruo wanted just now was an attitude.

She wanted to see how Qiu Yang would handle it, to see if Qiu Yang cared about her.

Qiu Yang handled it, and she felt cared for. Shen Ningruo couldn’t help but smile, her ears still echoing Qiu Yang’s spoiled tone from just now. She watched as Qiu Yang returned to her normal demeanor, then raised her hand again, just like before, and brushed Qiu Yang’s hair aside.

Qiu Yang’s ears were delicate and pretty, usually looking clear and cute, but now they were flushed from the lobe to the helix.

“Xiao Yang.”

“That was quite a sacrifice.”

Shen Ningruo teased with a smile, then lightly flicked Qiu Yang’s earlobe with her fingertip.

That was the spot she used to love playing with.

Qiu Yang stared straight ahead, not daring to meet Shen Ningruo’s gaze at all, because she had hardly ever acted spoiled before. This seemed to be the first time, and it made her so shy she didn’t know which way was up.

“I…” Qiu Yang struggled to get the rest of the words out, “I’ve never done that before.”

Shen Ningruo gently pinched her chin again, effortlessly making her turn to look at her. Their eyes met, and Shen Ningruo nodded seriously, saying earnestly, “I appreciate it very much, thank you.”

Qiu Yang also nodded mechanically, “You’re welcome.”

Qiu Yang was still hungry, and Shen Ningruo hadn’t forgotten. She smiled again, restarted the car, and took Qiu Yang to eat.

Originally, Shen Ningruo was going to go with Qiu Yang to pick up Pingzi, but Yao Yao called in the afternoon, crying very sadly, so Qiu Yang told Shen Ningruo to go find Yao Yao first.

The fact that Yao Yao called Shen Ningruo while crying so sadly showed how good their relationship was.

More importantly, Qiu Yang felt Shen Ningruo had to go. Yao Yao, whom she had only met once, seemed to have broken up with someone. She kept saying things like “I’m not even as important as a cat,” and then started wailing again.

Qiu Yang didn’t think too much about it. When Yue Chu got off work, she sent her a message.

Pingzi had stayed at Yue Chu’s new place for a few days and had a blast. When Qiu Yang arrived, it froze for a few seconds, then took off running as if it had seen a bad person.

Qiu Yang: …

Yue Chu watched from the side, amused, until Qiu Yang called out, “Pangpang.” Then Pingzi slammed on the brakes and ran towards Qiu Yang, meowing.

Oh wow, this was its birth mother, it had forgotten after not seeing her for a few days.

Yue Chu was confused, “It recognizes you just by changing the name?”

“It doesn’t like that name,” Qiu Yang’s eyes curved into a smile, “That’s why it reacted so strongly.”

“Oh right, Pingzi is just a fluffy thing,” Yue Chu said with a smile, rubbing Pingzi’s face. She had been very happy taking care of the cat for Qiu Yang these past few days.

Yue Chu had already packed Pingzi’s things beforehand; they just needed to be taken to the parking lot.

Yue Chu drove Qiu Yang back home. Just as she dropped her off, her phone rang.

It was Yao Yao calling.

Yue Chu’s eyelid twitched. She said “Excuse me” to Qiu Yang and went to the balcony to answer the phone, while Qiu Yang was pouring cat food for Pingzi.

“Am I really not as important as a cat?” Yao Yao asked as soon as she spoke, her voice thick with congestion.

Yue Chu rubbed her forehead, “I didn’t say that.”

“Then why didn’t you come find me first after work, instead of going to deliver a cat to that junior of yours?”

“I get it, I’m not as important as a junior, boohoohoohoo.”

“…Where are you?” Yue Chu’s brows furrowed.

“Where I am is none of your business,” Yao Yao’s voice just fell when Shen Ningruo snatched the phone away.

She couldn’t stand it anymore, “She’s at her place. Do you know the address? This is Shen Ningruo.”

“I know,” Yue Chu lowered her gaze.

“Hurry up and come.”

As soon as the call ended, Qiu Yang saw Yue Chu looking anxious. She asked with concern, “Did something happen?”

Yue Chu replied with a smile, “I’m going to handle something.”

“Okay.”

Yue Chu left after saying that, closing the door behind her. Qiu Yang blinked, unable to connect the Yue Chu she had just seen with the usual Yue Chu.

But it was almost certainly about that person.

Shen Ningruo sat on the sofa at Yao Yao’s place, silently waiting for Yue Chu to arrive, like handing over a task.

It was the first time Shen Ningruo had seen Yao Yao so upset. She knew it wasn’t just about the small matter of not being as important as a cat, but rather the accumulated grievances of many years finally erupting.

That’s why Yao Yao broke down, broke down to the point where she had to call her.

Shen Ningruo also felt like breaking down, to the point where she had to call Yue Chu, even though she had snatched the phone.

After more than half an hour, Yue Chu rang the doorbell, and Shen Ningruo went to open the door.

“Where is she?” Yue Chu asked immediately.

“On the sofa, cried herself to sleep,” Shen Ningruo said without much expression. She and Yao Yao were good friends; she and Yue Chu were not.

Yue Chu had rushed over, her lips a little pale and dry. Shen Ningruo poured her a glass of water, “Have some water first.”

Her tone was light, pulling Yue Chu back to the present.

“Thank you.”

Yue Chu drank more than half the glass, put it down, and walked over to Yao Yao. Shen Ningruo glanced at her back, “Are you working tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow is my day off.”

“Alright then.”

“I’m leaving.”

Shen Ningruo picked up her car keys from the table, changed her shoes, and left. Only after closing the door did she let out a sigh of relief.

She felt that Yao Yao and Yue Chu really tormented each other quite a bit, but their care for each other was also genuine.

Shen Ningruo thought of Qiu Yang, and her frustration lessened slightly.

On the way back, Shen Ningruo called Qiu Yang. Although she would see her soon, she still wanted to hear Qiu Yang’s voice to ease her longing.

But Qiu Yang was taking a shower and didn’t hear the phone ring.

Shen Ningruo didn’t mind. She drove all the way to Qiu Yang’s place and knocked on the door.

Qiu Yang had just finished showering and hadn’t checked her phone yet. She was still warm from the shower and wasn’t surprised to see Shen Ningruo.

“Did you miss me properly this afternoon?” Shen Ningruo asked with smiling eyes.
