PSMD – Chapter 74

By the time Gu Lan came knocking, Qiu Yang had already taken her medicine and slept. Shen Ningruo was the one who opened the door.

“Uh.” Gu Lan tried her best to control her expression, then looked up at the apartment number, and even pulled out her chat history with Qiu Yang to confirm she hadn’t come to the wrong place. Only then did she show a smile. “Excuse me, is this Qiu Yang’s home?”

Gu Lan felt it was a bit strange. The woman in front of her looked familiar, but when she thought about it carefully, she couldn’t remember where she’d seen her. At least it wasn’t Qiu Yang’s trashy ex, that’s all she needed to know.

Shen Ningruo was also a little surprised. She didn’t know who it was, but the other person had called out Qiu Yang’s name, so she was most likely a friend of Qiu Yang’s. Shen Ningruo nodded. “Yes.”

“Is Qiu Jie not home?” Gu Lan tried asking another question. She and Qiu Yang had agreed for her to come on Sunday noon.

“She is.”

“She has a cold.”

“Is it serious? I knew about it last night, but I didn’t know how bad it was.”

Shen Ningruo took out a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet. “Please come in. She just woke up. I’ll go call her.”

“Okay.” Gu Lan watched Shen Ningruo act like the lady of the house and was stunned again. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Shen Ningruo turned around and walked towards the bedroom. She didn’t feel there was anything inappropriate about her actions.

Qiu Yang had just taken off her pajamas, revealing her smooth, fair back, and was about to put on her bra.

Shen Ningruo opened the door and walked in, seeing this scene. She paused for a moment before getting to the point. “There’s a young woman outside calling you Qiu Jie.”

Qiu Yang’s bra was purple. Hearing this, she didn’t stop her movements, putting it on and fastening the clasp herself.

It was a front-clasp bra, so she didn’t need to reach behind her back.

Qiu Yang was slender, with a thin back. Her shoulder and neck lines were smooth. Looking from behind, she was so beautiful that Shen Ningruo wondered if she was a piece of smooth paper that had just come out.

“She’s a colleague from my company.” Qiu Yang hadn’t taken off her pajama bottoms yet, only wearing the bra on her upper body. She stood up, facing Shen Ningruo, and under the other woman’s unwavering gaze, walked to the wardrobe and took out a hoodie to put on.

It was a light blue crewneck hoodie with a sheep pattern on it, which Qiu Yang had recently bought.

After her head emerged from the collar, Qiu Yang said the next sentence. “I asked her to come with me to the pet hospital for Pangpang’s check-up.”

Shen Ningruo blinked. She couldn’t describe how she felt right now, only letting out an “Oh.”

Qiu Yang had clearly said she would go with her.

“It’s your fault for making me angry,” Qiu Yang walked up to her and snorted softly.

Shen Ningruo immediately pulled a long face and started again, “I’m really sorry, boohoohoo.”

“To atone, I’ll help you change your pants.”

“…Is that atonement?”

“That’s a reward, isn’t it?”

Shen Ningruo nodded, accepting it naturally. “Indeed.”

“Then is my little sheep willing to give me this reward?”

Qiu Yang didn’t answer, just quietly sat on the edge of the bed and tilted her chin towards the wardrobe. “The dark denim pants on the right.”

Gu Lan didn’t mind waiting outside. She was having a great time playing with Pingzi, using a cat wand to tease it from the balcony all the way to the door, and then from the door back to the balcony, repeating it several times. She didn’t feel tired, but Pingzi was already panting and refused to play with her anymore, lying on the side like a lazy fish.

When Qiu Yang came out of the bedroom, she saw Gu Lan provoking Pingzi. “Ping, Auntie hasn’t seen you for that long, look at yourself, shouldn’t you exercise to lose weight?”

“Your mom eats anything and doesn’t gain weight, she’s even thinner now, how did you get so round?”

“If I dyed you and sent you to the zoo, I’d suspect people would mistake you for a giant panda.”

Pingzi rolled over, ignoring her. It immediately saw Qiu Yang come out and ran towards her as if to complain, meowing several times.

It was extremely wronged.

Gu Lan stood up, smiling brightly. “Qiu Jie.” She immediately showed concern. “How’s your cold? You look even thinner than before.”

“It’s fine, much better.”

“…Qiu Jie, if I didn’t know you don’t smoke, that sentence just now would make me suspect you were a decades-long heavy smoker.”

“Your voice is so hoarse, and you say you’re fine.”

Qiu Yang smiled. “Really, I’m fine.”

“Let’s go, the appointment time is almost here.”

Gu Lan nodded and picked up the cat carrier from the balcony. Qiu Yang had already scooped up Pingzi and put the completely unresisting cat inside.

Shen Ningruo came out of the bedroom at this moment. “I’ll carry it.”

“I’ll do it,” Gu Lan said, picking up the cat carrier faster than Shen Ningruo.

Qiu Yang glanced at Shen Ningruo, then smiled, not saying anything comforting. She picked up the keys. “Let’s go.”

Shen Ningruo shook her head and sighed, silently following their steps.

She was in the wrong first, so it was understandable that Qiu Yang chose someone else to accompany her when she was angry.

However, she hadn’t explained things clearly yet. It seemed she would have to wait until after Pingzi’s check-up to talk.

The pet hospital was very close, about a hundred meters to the left after turning out of the complex. Pingzi was already a regular customer here. As soon as it arrived, the young lady at the front desk smiled. “Oh, it’s Pingzi!”

“I’ve seen your videos on Douyin!”

It wasn’t the first time Gu Lan had accompanied Qiu Yang for Pingzi’s check-up. She was experienced and, seeing that Qiu Yang wasn’t feeling well, she automatically took over. So she said to the young lady at the front desk, “We’re here for Pingzi’s check-up.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll call the doctor.”

After saying that, the young lady at the front desk carried Pingzi into the examination room. Qiu Yang and the other two followed. Fortunately, this pet hospital was large and the examination room wasn’t small, so there was more than enough space for three extra people.

Shen Ningruo stood to Qiu Yang’s left. While the doctor was going in and out preparing, she put her arm around Qiu Yang’s waist, afraid she might get bumped.

Gu Lan accidentally saw this action. On the surface, she remained calm, but inwardly, she sighed, “They look so good together.”

But she still felt this person looked familiar, yet she just couldn’t remember, as if her brain was broken.

Pingzi had been let out. It became a little timid at this point, just lying on the table without daring to move, not as arrogant as it was at home.

Two doctors came. One held its body steady, and the other performed the examination, while the three of them stood about a meter away from the table, quietly watching it.

When Pingzi was being examined below, it finally got a little scared. “Meow.”

Mom, save me.

But its mom just turned her head, leaned on the other person’s shoulder, and chose not to look at it.

Two other pet owners came to the doorway to watch the examination, constantly praising how well the cat was raised, from its fur color to its body shape, like people from a compliment group. Qiu Yang and the others heard it all.

Pingzi was getting a comprehensive check-up, which would take some time. Shen Ningruo was worried that Qiu Yang, being sick, might not be able to handle it. After a while, she put her arm around Qiu Yang and led her out of the examination room to sit on a chair in the lobby.

In the lobby, there was a three-tiered cat cage with three cats kept by the pet hospital itself. They were all lying lazily, occasionally lifting their eyelids to look at the humans.

Gu Lan sighed. “I really want to get a cat too, but my mom is allergic to cat fur, so I can’t.”

That’s why she came to Qiu Yang’s place to pet the cat. Pingzi was simply her dream cat.

Shen Ningruo was a little confused. “Do you live with your family?”

“Yes.”

“My family won’t let me move out.”

“I… I’m from a single-parent family, and I don’t want to leave my mom alone at home.”

Qiu Yang patted her hand reassuringly. “It’s okay, you can come and play with Pangpang whenever you want.”

“When did its name change to Pangpang?”

Shen Ningruo answered proudly, “I named it.”

She raised her eyebrows, as if it was something incredibly impressive.

Gu Lan looked at her like this, and two seconds later, her pupils dilated in shock—

She remembered!

Isn’t this the Director from Qiyao Company that she had praised to Qiu Yang just a while ago?

Why could one person have such a huge contrast?

Gu Lan didn’t understand, and she deeply knew that this was the main reason she hadn’t remembered.

At the company, she looked incredibly cold, but meeting her privately now, she was no different from Pingzi.

Gu Lan was a bit bewildered.

“Hello, are you…” Gu Lan wanted to confirm if she was that Director. Sometimes, hearing the answer made it complete.

“Yes.”

“I’m her girlfriend.”
