PLTRSC Chapter 31

Fear of Darkness

“Tang Tang?” Some bad memories flooded into his mind. Lu Yinghuai suddenly turned to Jiang Tang and reached out to touch his forehead.

His hands were covered with sticky sweat. Jiang Tang’s suppressed breathing could be heard in the room. He held Lu Yinghuai’s wrist and said, “Mr. Lu…”

“Where do you feel uncomfortable?” Lu Yinghuai immediately grabbed the hand in his own, which was as cold as ice.

“It’s okay, I just had a nightmare…that’s all.” Jiang Tang carefully adjusted his breathing rate, trying to make himself sound more normal.

Lu Yinghuai sat up, and Jiang Tang pulled him hard: “Don’t…don’t turn on the light.”

Don’t turn on the light, don’t see him like this.

He didn’t know that the vision of an S-class Alpha at night was not much different from that during the day, and Lu Yinghuai could clearly see his painful expression.

But Lu Yinghuai did not expose him, but hugged him in his arms.

“Tang Tang, relax a little.” The man’s deep voice gradually faded in the night along with the fir pheromones.

Jiang Tang’s sanity collapsed bit by bit, and he tried hard to get it back, but couldn’t.

The air was filled with the scent of fir trees, and Jiang Tang felt that he had found a haven he could trust.

Then the last bit of his consciousness collapsed, and he began to gasp violently, like a dying fish washed ashore.

Lu Yinghuai’s pheromones did not force him to calm down, but slowly guided him, letting him no longer endure and no longer forcing himself to be strong.

Jiang Tang’s fingers grasped Lu Yinghuai’s hand like a person in a flood grasping for a life-saving piece of driftwood. Cold sweat continued to seep out of his body, his voice became hoarse, and he muttered in a distorted and almost collapsed voice. He didn’t even notice that Lu Yinghuai had turned on the light.

“Let me out… I was wrong, let me out…”

Amid the chaos, he smelled the smell of the pigsty, mixed with the smell of rust.

He felt thirsty and his throat was dry and sore.

He felt hot and breathless.

He seemed to have returned to the summer when he was locked in an iron cage in the pigsty for three days. The cage was welded tightly, leaving only a rectangular hole for air ventilation.

The iron cage was scorching hot and he fainted from heatstroke several times and then woke up again.

He was so miserable that he wished he were dead more than once.

They didn’t give him food or water, and he saw through the cracks…

“Don’t throw it away… don’t, don’t throw it away, it’s mine… please, I’ll be obedient, I really will be obedient…”

Jiang Tang curled up as much as possible.

For the first time, he failed to hold on through the night, and he collapsed and cried out in Lu Yinghuai’s arms.

Lu Yinghuai patted his back gently, repeating softly: “Tang Tang, don’t be afraid. Mr. Lu is here. Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid…”

Jiang Tang was shaking all over, his eyes were red, but there were no tears on his face. His eyes were scattered, unable to focus, his face was pale, and his wet hair stuck to his forehead in clumps, looking miserable.

He looked at Lu Yinghuai very slowly, his eyes empty and desperate, his chest rising and falling violently, and he kept repeating: “Give it back to me… Please, I will be obedient…”

“It’s okay, Tang Tang, it’s over, Mr. Lu is here,” Lu Yinghuai glanced around the bedroom, stretched out his arm to take the puppy pendant on Jiang Tang’s bedside table, put it in Jiang Tang’s palm, and patiently coaxed her, “It’s okay, Tang Tang, don’t be afraid, Mr. Lu is here…”

A fresher scent of the ocean gradually filled the room, and the green pattern on the back of Jiang Tang’s neck slowly changed into a blue snowflake totem.

It was clearly the hottest time of the year, but the weather was no longer hot. Through the gap in the iron cage, he saw fine snow falling outside.

A long, bony hand placed the discarded pendant into his.

He turned around and found that the iron cage was gone, the scalding iron plate was gone, and the dirty pigsty was gone. Instead, they were replaced by a warm and strong embrace.

Then he saw that person.

The one who made him glad that he wasn’t dead.

Lu Yinghuai’s gaze was so gentle that Jiang Tang suddenly wanted to possess it for himself at this moment.

This was the first time.

Jiang Tang thought.

Maybe the last time.

He was able to escape from the dark fear so quickly.

There had been many nights like this before when he didn’t dare to shout out loud or show his fear, so he just endured until dawn, feeling as if he had died several times.

“I…” Jiang Tang wanted to say that everything was fine, but he found a cup was placed in front of him.

Lu Yinghuai took the cup and fed Jiang Tang water. A brown and black object as thick as a bowl and covered with bark-like scales was holding another green coaster-like object woven from fir needles and was suspended in mid-air.

Jiang Tang glanced at it while drinking water.

Lu Yinghuai noticed Jiang Tang’s gaze, he turned around and glared at the fir.

So Jiang Tang watched the thing retreat quickly. The brown and black one was even shaking and almost shook the “coaster” off several times.

“What is that?” Jiang Tang couldn’t help but ask after drinking the water.

“It’s just an ugly thing.”

Jiang Tang: …

Fir tree who protected the little yellow flower: I was so angry that I kissed the little yellow flower.jpg

“Still feeling uncomfortable?”

Jiang Tang shook his head. He didn’t know how to explain: “You said before…”

“Yes, I said that, so there’s no need to explain.” Lu Yinghuai wrung out a towel to wipe Jiang Tang’s sweat. “It’s too dark, right? I didn’t do a good enough job and didn’t ask you in advance.”

“No.”

“Tangtang, you don’t have to make excuses for me.” The fir fragrance in the room was full of comfort. Lu Yinghuai kissed Jiang Tang’s cheek and nose with pity, “It’s okay. If you are sleepy, go back to sleep. I won’t turn off the lights.”

Jiang Tang didn’t expect that he could fall asleep again.

When he woke up again, the room was full of sunlight and he could hear voices coming faintly from the small balcony of the master bedroom.

Jiang Tang propped himself up and looked outside. The white gauze curtains swayed slightly, and the smell of fir had not yet completely dissipated. Lu Yinghuai’s figure was blocked and could not be seen clearly. He seemed to be talking to someone on the phone, and his tone was very calm.

Feeling a slight itch on his arm, Jiang Tang lifted it up to take a look.

His brows gradually furrowed.

Lu Yinghuai took off his gauze in the morning.

In just one night, the burn wound he suffered yesterday healed and a thin scab formed.

The burn was so severe, how could it heal so quickly?

It’s only been one night.

Jiang Tang looked at Lu Yinghuai who was on the phone and his heart started beating wildly.

If I get better soon, Mr. Lu’s promise will be invalid, right?

While carefully paying attention to Lu Yinghuai’s movements, he fiercely tore open the wound on his wrist.

He felt no pain when the blood oozed out, only pleasure.

Be willful just once, just this once.

Jiang Tang opened the wound on his other hand as well, and watched the blood flow down his wrist. A hint of satisfaction flashed across his eyes.

“Why didn’t you call me when you woke up?” Lu Yinghuai hung up the phone and walked over.

Jiang Tang immediately hid his hands behind his back, feeling guilty.
