PTGWD Chapter 33: Suspicious

The advice is still to break up

Half an hour later, Dr. Li received the assessment reports for both Fang Xingzhou and Lu Jianchuan.

He sat like a statue in his chair, staring at the two reports for a full twenty minutes.

Fang Xingzhou had already finished his second cup of tea. Unable to wait any longer for the doctor’s diagnosis, he finally spoke up, asking, “Is the condition very serious?”

Beside him, Lu Jianchuan nervously gripped his partner’s hand, his palm slightly damp.

Dr. Li remained silent. The prolonged quiet stretched on in the consultation room until even Lu Jianchuan couldn’t bear it anymore. He said, “Doctor, just tell us. Whatever the result is, we can accept it.”

Dr. Li slowly inhaled, reluctantly tearing his gaze away from the reports to look at the two patients sitting across from him.

His eyes settled on Lu Jianchuan.

The test results were completely beyond his expectations. Fang Xingzhou, who seemed to have the more severe issues, actually showed no significant problems. He wasn’t depressed, nor did he exhibit the delusional disorder Dr. Li had initially suspected. His mental state was rational and calm, and his blood test results were also completely normal.

On the other hand, Lu Jianchuan… Based on the assessment, his results were almost 100% consistent with a criminal psychology study Dr. Li had recently conducted. Arrogant, emotionally detached, lacking empathy, with a suspected tendency toward violence and extremely low moral standards. His profile could serve as a textbook example of a born criminal.

And Dr. Li’s intuition told him—Fang Xingzhou’s male partner was an extremely dangerous individual.

For instance, as he looked into Lu Jianchuan’s eyes now, he once again felt an inexplicable chill run down his spine.

Dr. Li had encountered countless psychiatric patients over the years, including extreme cases. He had even assisted the police in evaluating dangerous criminals. But…. no one had ever given him such a foreboding feeling as Lu Jianchuan did.

Especially Lu Jianchuan’s description of Fang Xingzhou’s blood:

“The sweet nectar secreted by the supreme creator.”

…Even patients with pica wouldn’t use such fervent language to describe blood. Dr. Li shuddered, suddenly understanding Fang Xingzhou’s statement: “I suspect my partner isn’t human.”

He averted his gaze and looked at Fang Xingzhou, forcing a slight smile. “I think it’s best if I speak with you alone for a moment.”

Fang Xingzhou: “It’s fine. You can say it directly. I don’t mind Lu Jianchuan hearing.”

“…” Dr. Li hesitated, “From a professional standpoint, I think it’s better to discuss this privately…”

Lu Jianchuan, who naturally respected doctors, quickly stood up. “Then I’ll step out for now. You two talk.”

He left the room, leaving only Fang Xingzhou and Dr. Li inside. The doctor relaxed slightly, stood up, opened the window, and took a few deep breaths of fresh air.

Seeing this, Fang Xingzhou’s unease grew stronger.

“Is it very serious?” he asked softly.

Dr. Li pulled over a chair and sat down next to him, his expression serious. He spoke in a low voice, “Xingzhou, we’ve known each other for so many years. There are some things I wouldn’t lie to you about. Your fiancé… I suggest you break up with him.”

Fang Xingzhou: “?”

“From a behavioral perspective, you’re showing signs of significant psychological issues, but the test results are completely normal. I suspect it’s because you’ve been living in a distorted environment for too long. Everything can still be fixed,” Dr. Li said earnestly. “But your fiancé, on the other hand, has severe personality issues. Note, I’m not talking about psychological issues—I mean personality issues.”

“I carefully reviewed his test results. He seems to be innately emotionally deficient. Aside from his relationship with you, he has almost no social connections. He shows no reverence for life and feels no aversion to bloody and violent acts. His moral sense is so low that he can barely be considered human. He’s already showing symptoms of delusional disorder and schizophrenia.”

“Moreover, your intuition is correct. He does have an incomprehensible obsession with your blood. Your mental state is clearly being influenced by him.”

Dr. Li spoke with great concern, gripping Fang Xingzhou’s shoulders, his expression growing more serious. “An obsession with blood is often the starting point for many heinous crimes. Coupled with his lack of sense of belonging to human society and his complete detachment from societal norms, do you know what this means?”

Fang Xingzhou fell silent for a moment.

Every word Dr. Li said was simply stating facts, but they struck Fang Xingzhou like the tolling of a bell, shaking him to his core and instantly dispelling the fog that had clouded his vision for years.

His heart began to pound, and countless fragmented memories surged to the surface. His unreliable recollections began to stir.

Innate emotional deficiency, no social connections, low moral standards… These issues had always been hidden beneath the intensity of their love. But once you set aside their feelings, Lu Jianchuan, as Dr. Li had said, seemed to have appeared out of thin air in this world—almost inhuman.

Especially… that day they visited the Lu family together.

Fang Xingzhou finally remembered the old butler who had acted strangely reserved, the overly enthusiastic parents, the banquet that felt like a perfectly scripted performance, and… and…

And… no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t recall the details of when Lu Jianchuan had announced the pregnancy.

It didn’t make sense.

It was even eerie.

What was even more eerie was that he had never deeply thought about it. Whenever he felt something was off, he would quickly forget, as if his mind had been infected by an invisible parasite, monitoring his every thought.

He began to neurotically pick at the edge of the chair with his nails, his face slightly pale, his lips parting as he spoke in a tense voice, answering Dr. Li’s question.

“This means…” he said uncontrollably, “Lu Jianchuan… has no normal range of emotions. He might really not be human.”

Dr. Li: “……..”

He shot up from his chair, touching Fang Xingzhou’s forehead in disbelief. “…The test results look normal, but why do you seem so abnormal?”

Fang Xingzhou forced a slight smile, pushing the thought aside for now. He looked dazed and said, “Sorry, I was just talking nonsense.”

“You…(sigh).” Dr. Li sighed repeatedly.

Fang Xingzhou clenched his fists, forcing himself to stop overthinking. He asked, “So what personality issues does he have?”

Dr. Li: “This is classic antisocial personality traits! Even if he loves you to death now, what about in the future? If you were just my patient, I’d only remind you but wouldn’t feel obligated to advise you. But as a friend, I want to add one more thing: think carefully about this relationship.”

Fang Xingzhou only heard the first part: “Thank you.”

Dr. Li: “…”

Fang Xingzhou smiled and added, “I’ll seriously consider it. Thank you.”

Dr. Li sat back down behind his desk, watching the visibly unsettled Fang Xingzhou. He shook his head and began writing out prescriptions.

He prescribed medication for schizophrenia and delusional disorder for both Fang Xingzhou and Lu Jianchuan, repeatedly emphasizing the details of the medication and stressing that they must return for a follow-up after some time. If there was no improvement, they would need hospitalization.

Fang Xingzhou thanked him again, took the prescriptions, and left the consultation room. He saw Lu Jianchuan anxiously waiting outside. As soon as he saw Fang Xingzhou, he immediately took his hand.

“What did the doctor say?” he asked.

Fang Xingzhou quietly looked at Lu Jianchuan’s flawless face, his thoughts churning.

Lu Jianchuan grew impatient. “What’s the result?”

Fang Xingzhou looked away and shook his head. “Nothing serious. The doctor said I’m just under too much stress.”

Lu Jianchuan’s tense shoulders instantly relaxed.

He let out a long sigh of relief and hugged Fang Xingzhou tightly. “That’s great! Zhouzhou, you don’t need to feel stressed. The baby and I are both very healthy. There won’t be any problems.”

Fang Xingzhou nodded absentmindedly.

Lu Jianchuan: “Do we need to get medication?”

Fang Xingzhou crumpled the prescription into a ball and stuffed it into his pocket. “No, we just need to be more careful from now on.”

Lu Jianchuan: “That’s good. Psychiatric medications have too many side effects. They can harm your body. Oh, by the way, honey, wait for me for a moment. I want to thank the doctor personally.”

Fang Xingzhou’s intuition tingled. He immediately looked up sharply, his gaze fixed on Lu Jianchuan.

“Okay,” he said, “I’ll wait for you.”

Lu Jianchuan entered the consultation room.

He only partially closed the door, leaving it slightly ajar, appearing completely open and honest. He shook Dr. Li’s hand warmly, thanking him for his help today.

Fang Xingzhou stood outside the door, watching Lu Jianchuan’s back. His eyelids twitched uncontrollably, and a strong thought suddenly surged to the forefront of his mind.

No.

He couldn’t just let this go. He had to record today’s suspicions, or else…

He quickly and quietly left the consultation room, took out the prescription again, borrowed a pen from the front desk nurse, and wrote a few lines on the back of the prescription:

[April 12th, visited psychiatrist Dr. Li. Diagnosis keywords: antisocial personality.]
[If you see this note, remember to discuss today’s diagnosis with Dr. Li.]
[If Dr. Li has also forgotten…]

A messy scratch nearly tore through the paper.

[It means Deer can control people’s thoughts and memories. He…]

Another messy scratch.

From the consultation room, Lu Jianchuan’s voice called out, “Zhouzhou?”

Fang Xingzhou’s nose was beaded with fine sweat. He quickly finished the last sentence.

[It means he’s been pretending to be human all along.]

“Zhouzhou? Why did you leave without me?” Lu Jianchuan strode over. “Didn’t you say you’d wait for me?”

Fang Xingzhou returned the pen and, with his back to Lu Jianchuan, discreetly slipped the note back into his pocket.

This was a jacket he often wore, and Lu Jianchuan hated the noise of the washing machine. Usually, Fang Xingzhou was the one who did the laundry, while Lu Jianchuan handled the drying.

Before doing the laundry, Fang Xingzhou had the good habit of checking every pocket to make sure nothing was left behind that could get damaged in the wash.

Lu Jianchuan walked up to him and naturally took his hand, complaining, “Why didn’t you wait for me?”

Fang Xingzhou rubbed the soft pad of Lu Jianchuan’s little finger and said, “A colleague called me over, so I chatted with him for a bit. Did Dr. Li say anything?”

“He told me to take good care of you and not to overthink things.” Lu Jianchuan tightened his grip on Fang Xingzhou’s hand. “He’s right. I haven’t been doing well lately, which is why you’ve been feeling stressed. I’m sorry, Zhouzhou. I still don’t know how to be a good partner.”

Fang Xingzhou was still distracted and casually comforted him, “See, you’re overthinking again.”

Lu Jianchuan: “Huh? Is that considered overthinking?”

“Mm,” Fang Xingzhou said, walking side by side with him toward the elevator, staring at their intertwined shadows under the fluorescent lights. “Saying things like that adds to my stress.”

Lu Jianchuan had an epiphany but still felt something was off. Human logic was just too complicated.

“I see,” he said humbly learning. “I’ll pay more attention.”

Fang Xingzhou smiled, sighing inwardly as he tried to push the events of the consultation room out of his mind.

Maybe it was all just his nerves acting up. Dr. Li had said he was showing symptoms of delusional disorder, and thinking that Deer wasn’t human might just be one of those symptoms. After all, ever since he got pregnant…

Wait.

Pregnant.

.

Fang Xingzhou turned his head to look at Lu Jianchuan again.

When had he first learned that Lu Jianchuan was pregnant? And why had he so naturally accepted it as a given?

Hermaphroditism did exist, but could pregnancy really happen so easily? As a doctor, how had he never questioned this?

Lu Jianchuan was pulling a mask out of his pocket. “I think it’s better to disguise myself as a woman for the prenatal checkup. When I mentioned the pregnancy to Dr. Li earlier, he looked absolutely terrified… I’m sorry, Zhouzhou.”

Fang Xingzhou heard himself ask in a deep voice, “Why are you apologizing?”

“I shouldn’t have chosen the hospital where you work. I regret it now,” Lu Jianchuan said, his expression dimming. “I didn’t realize people wouldn’t easily believe that a man could be pregnant. I thought it was no big deal… After all, my family seemed to accept it so quickly.”

“Will they spread rumors about us? Will it affect your work?”

Fang Xingzhou laughed.

When Lu Jianchuan said things like this, he seemed especially innocent, like a child who knew nothing about the world’s rules.

But when such innocence was paired with an antisocial personality, it became doubly chilling.

…It was like a monster wearing human skin, desperately trying to learn the rules of human society.

Lu Jianchuan blinked, looking at his partner’s smile. “Huh? Honey, are you laughing at me?”

Fang Xingzhou’s smile deepened.

But at this moment, he was absolutely certain of one thing.

Even though he had just been warned by a psychiatrist, even though he was highly suspicious that his partner might be some kind of monster, he still found Lu Jianchuan utterly adorable. His heart softened, and he couldn’t help but want to get closer, even if it meant being pierced through the heart the next second.

“I’m not laughing at you,” he said gently. “Deer, you’re so dumb.”

Your disguise is so poor. So silly.

Hearing this, Lu Jianchuan didn’t get angry. Instead, he smiled too, his clear eyes reflecting his partner’s gentle smile, as if the entire world was contained within his gaze.

“You’re right,” he said. “I have no experience with pregnancy. Next time, I’ll know what to do. Don’t you think so, honey?”

“No,” Fang Xingzhou firmly refused. “This is already enough trouble.”

“But I want to give you lots of babies. Next time, I can learn from seahorses and hide in the water during pregnancy, laying thousandsof eggs, hatching them all, and having thousands of little Fang Xingzhous calling you papa—”

It was an absolute horror story.

But the two of them found it utterly sweet. Fang Xingzhou kept saying “no,” but his eyes slowly curved into a smile as he led his partner to the fifth floor, the obstetrics department, to await the ultrasound that would show them the new life they had worked so hard to create.

If Lu Jianchuan really was a monster…..

Would the baby in his belly also be a little monster with claws and fangs?

Thinking this, Fang Xingzhou felt a flicker of anticipation. He secretly tightened his grip on the diagnosi in his pocket, a self-deprecating thought crossing his mind: Dr. Li’s years of wisdom must have been ruined today. How could his test results be normal when he was clearly this insane?

With this anticipation, they walked into the obstetrics department.

The obstetrics department was still filled with familiar faces. As Fang Xingzhou and Lu Jianchuan walked in side by side, they immediately attracted the attention of all their colleagues. The nurse at the front desk even stared openly, her mouth slightly agape, not responding even after being called several times.

Fang Xingzhou didn’t really mind.

But he deliberately said, “What should we do, Deer? It looks like I’m going to become hospital gossip.”

Lu Jianchuan belatedly realized he had made a mistake. He panicked for a moment, then leaned in close to Fang Xingzhou’s ear and whispered, “Don’t worry, honey. I’ll figure something out. It won’t affect your work.”

Fang Xingzhou’s gaze lightly fell on him.

“Is that so?” He smiled slightly. “I’m looking forward to it.”
