PTBC chapter 3

Omega!?

Xu Cong and the rest were all sent to the hallway outside.

The group of alphas tore open the pills the doctor had just handed them and shared them among themselves.

However, Xiao Ning studied the medicine box with a confused expression.

“Aren’t these the pills meant for the heat period? They suppress hormones,” Xiao Ning said, looking puzzled. “Why are they giving these to us? It’s not like we’re going through differentiation.”

“Who knows,” Lin Qixu yawned, leaning back in his seat. After an exhausting day and the life-or-death dash to get Xia Yan to the hospital, he finally relaxed and felt utterly drained, his mind barely functioning. “Alpha pheromones can influence each other. Maybe they’re afraid we’ll enter an early heat period.”

Ye Zhaoyang overheard the conversation between these two and shot them a speechless look.

But soon, his gaze shifted to Xu Cong, pausing at the needle mark on Xu Cong’s arm.

If he wasn’t mistaken, what Dr. Li had just injected into Xu Cong was a potent suppressant meant specifically for alphas—far stronger than the pills they were given.

This kind of suppressant was typically used only during severe heat periods or when an alpha was heavily influenced by omega pheromones.

…..

Half an hour later, Xia Yan’s condition stabilized, and he was transferred to an observation room. However, the medical staff took full control of the situation, not allowing any of his teammates even a glimpse.

Around this time, their manager arrived.

Their group’s manager, Bai Yu, was a beta who had been with them since their debut. Much of D.A’s current glory was thanks to him.

When Bai Yu arrived at the hospital, he seemed in high spirits, rubbing his hands together with delight.

“Thank goodness, Xia Yan has finally differentiated!” Bai Yu was so thrilled he nearly cried. “Thank you, Buddha, thank you, Jesus. At last, the title of our D.A team being full of alphas is legit. Let’s see if Forest Group dares to mock us again, calling Xia Yan Schrödinger’s alpha, always ‘pending.’”

Forest Group, a neighboring company’s boy band, had a mix of alpha and beta members. They were all good-looking and highly popular but still fell slightly short of D.A. The fans of both groups often clashed, and even the managers didn’t get along.

Now Bai Yu felt vindicated. “Let’s see that sly old fox Xi Mu sneer at me again. With two S-tier alphas, I’ll crush him. At this year’s awards ceremony, we’ll stand right next to them and drive them mad.”

Ye Zhaoyang raised his brows, refraining from dampening the manager’s enthusiasm.

With their leader absent, Ye Zhaoyang summarized the situation to Bai Yu, specifically emphasizing, “The captain’s situation is very different from an ordinary differentiation period. I’ve read about other cases of delayed differentiation in alphas, but the captain seems unique. Just now, he was flushed, sweating, and wouldn’t let go of Xu Cong.”

“The captain is still in the observation room. A nurse just told us that if there are no complications, he should be stable and ready to come out in about half an hour.”

Bai Yu waved his hand. “Got it. He’s an S-tier alpha who didn’t differentiate until twenty-three. It’s normal for things to be a bit dramatic.”

Despite being unable to see anything, Bai Yu craned his neck toward the observation room like a hopeful goose, his mind full of his soon-to-be S-class alpha captain.

….

By ten o’clock, Xia Yan’s test results were finally out, and his condition was fully stabilized. He was released from the observation room.

Having received suppressants and rested for over an hour, Xia Yan now looked completely fine, nothing like the half-dead figure lying in the car earlier. Aside from the suppressant patch on the back of his neck, he seemed no different from usual. Ever the professional, he was already engaging with people at the hospital.

When Ye Zhaoyang and the others arrived, Xia Yan was chatting with the nurse responsible for recording his data.

This nurse happened to be a fan of Forest Group.

Yet in just ten minutes of interaction, Xia Yan had flirted so effectively that her allegiance wavered, and she was on the verge of switching sides.

Xia Yan accepted a pen handed to him by the nurse, his lips curving into a slight smile.

“Oh, you’ve listened to our album?” He signed her notebook while gazing at her with his famously alluring eyes. “Which song do you like best?”

The nurse hesitated, embarrassed to admit she’d only listened to the album because her friend forced her to.

“Um… ‘Encounter,’ I guess.”

She mumbled softly.

Xia Yan raised an eyebrow. “That’s my favorite, too.”

He wrote a note in her book and began humming the song’s chorus.

Afterward, he capped the pen and handed the notebook back to the nurse, along with a piece of chocolate.

“I noticed your lips are a little pale. You might have low blood sugar,” Xia Yan said. “But this is the only piece I have—it was stolen from my teammate.”

“No, no, thank you… you’re just so, so…” The nurse stammered, her face flushing under Xia Yan’s gaze.

So handsome!!

It was impossible not to fall for him!!

Her mind screamed with admiration.

….

Outside the door, Xia Yan’s teammates: “…”

They watched as the nurse’s eyes lit up more and more, all thoughts of Forest Group and rivalries forgotten.

From today onwards, DA’s Xia Yan was her new favorite idol.

Ye Zhaoyang massaged his temples, unable to look. “I bet he deliberately stole her loyalty because she’s a Forest fan.”

Lin Qixu nodded, then shook his head. “No, you don’t understand. The captain has professionalism in his bones. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Forest fan or an eighty-year-old grandma—he’ll try to win them over.”

Xiao Ning nodded earnestly in agreement.

Xu Cong, unable to stand the nonsense, knocked on the door, successfully drawing Xia Yan’s attention.

“Are you coming out or planning to spend New Year’s in the observation room?” Xu Cong asked.

This brat really had no sense of decorum.

Xia Yan cursed inwardly but still lazily replied, “Coming.”

He smiled at the nurse one last time before turning to leave.

As soon as he stepped out, he draped himself over Xu Cong and playfully elbowed him.

“Why the rush? Don’t you know you’re supposed to treat patients kindly?”

Unaware of what lay ahead, Xia Yan complained as he walked toward Dr. Li’s office with Xu Cong.

“Finally, I feel alive again. I was so miserable earlier; I’ve never felt so weak in my life. But it’s all good now. Once this differentiation period is over, I’ll be fine.”

Xia Yan was in a good mood.

Xu Cong glanced at the suppressant patch on the back of Xia Yan’s neck but said nothing.

Xiao Ning, however, curiously touched Xia Yan’s neck. “Captain, how do you feel now? There can’t be many cases like yours—differentiating at twenty-three.”

Yawning, Xia Yan replied, “What can I say? Just tired, headachey. At least it’s not as bad as before, when it felt like my whole body was going to break apart.”

This iron-willed man had nearly broken down crying in the car earlier.

……

The group barged into Dr. Li’s office again.

Manager Bai Yu was already there waiting.

The moment he saw Xia Yan, Bai Yu rushed over with concern.

“Oh, our Xia Yan had it tough. Differentiating as an S-tier alpha isn’t easy, especially with a delayed differentiation. Should we ask Dr. Li to prescribe you some tonics?”

Across from them, Dr. Li rolled his eyes.

Having known Bai Yu for years, he was used to being bossed around by him.

But as he looked at the thick stack of test results in his hand, Dr. Li felt a rare sense of difficulty, his expression turning complicated.

He glanced at the two chatting like father and son and raised the test results.

“Pardon me for interrupting your cozy chat,” Dr. Li said, raising the reports in his hand. “Don’t you want to hear the differentiation results first?”

Xia Yan and Bai Yu turned their heads simultaneously.

“What’s there to see?” Bai Yu said confidently, even smugly, as he adjusted his glasses. “Our Xia Yan is an undeniably amazing S-class Alpha. That’s a fact.”

Xia Yan nodded modestly in agreement.

Dr. Li sighed. He didn’t expect much critical thinking from Bai Yu. Without further ado, he tossed the reports onto the desk.

“See for yourself. Your Xia Yan is indeed S-class—but he’s an Omega.”

His gaze from behind his frameless glasses was filled with pity.

The declaration dropped like a bombshell in the room.

For two seconds, there was complete silence.

Xia Yan and Bai Yu didn’t even react at first. They exchanged glances before both lunged for the reports at the same time.

The sound of rustling paper filled the room.

No matter how many pages they flipped through, the result was consistent:

“Differentiation Assessment: S-class Omega
Pheromone Type: Y6712
Scent: Rose 07…”

The stark black-and-white text left no room for denial.

Not only did Xia Yan and Bai Yu see it, but the teammates crowding around them saw it clearly too.

“Holy sh*t!”

Someone finally broke the silence.

Everyone was dumbfounded.

Even Xu Cong and Ye Zhaoyang, who had their suspicions, couldn’t believe the results when faced with them.

Xia Yan’s mind, however, had stopped working altogether. The thin sheets of paper slipped from his hands and fluttered to the ground.

The words “S-class Omega” stood out sharply.

Dr. Li’s earlier words echoed in his head:

“S-class, but an Omega.”
