My name is Hong Hong.

 

Of course, I prefer to be called by my other title—the Gu King.

 

When I was very, very young, I wasn’t red at all; I was completely black. I had many brothers and sisters, but I didn’t like them because if they ate their fill, it often meant I’d go hungry. Back then, I lived in the dense forest, constantly facing the danger of being torn apart by predators or even my own kind.

 

But I was incredibly strong; I tore apart many of my siblings. Gradually, the others started to fear me, and my color changed to red. That’s when Shen Jianqing picked me out. I was the fiercest, most venomous, and most beautiful one, having fought my way through countless Gu insects. Any snake, insect, or rodent would have to go around me!

 

Honestly, I’ve always hated my name. It’s all because my owner, that human named Shen Jianqing, has such terrible taste. “Hong Hong” sounds so utterly harmless.

Li Yuze put a pot of tender grass by the bed, with soft soil where I could rest, though I was already used to sleeping in a cold Gu container. Sometimes, I’d even snuggle in his cuff and spend the whole day with him. Although I was quite weak during that time, I was also very happy. Unlike now, hmph, no need to talk about it!

 

I can’t be away from Shen Jianqing for too long; that’s a Gu insect’s fate. If a Gu insect leaves its master, it will gradually weaken, even regress. Li Yuze immediately stopped what he was doing, closed the glowing device, and got up to greet him.

 

“Why are you back so early today?”

 

Shen Jianqing said, feigning a sweet voice, “I missed you, so everything went faster. I didn’t want to stay with those people; I wanted to see you quickly.”

 

Li Yuze chuckled, “You only left two hours ago…”

 

As they spoke, they hugged, and then their mouths found each other. Sigh, again? Don’t they get tired of this? What’s so fun about mouth-to-mouth?

 

Then, Shen Jianqing wrapped his arms around Li Yuze’s waist, leading him towards the inner room. Li Yuze’s breathing was heavy; I guessed he was uncomfortable, but he didn’t push Shen Jianqing’s hands away. Humans are so strange.

 

I tried to crawl up Li Yuze’s wrist, hoping to hide from Shen Jianqing’s sight. This time, I was determined to sneak in and see what they were doing. But suddenly, Shen Jianqing stopped moving.
