RoCD Chapter 65

Arc 4: Domineering CEO dotes on her wife (11)

[System: Host, don’t be afraid. It’s just a dream; it can’t be real.]

Because the Host’s mental fluctuations had been extremely erratic during her sleep, Xixi had conducted several thorough investigations and managed to catch a glimpse of the Host’s dream.

Knowing that the Main God Space’s elimination and hunting of its mission-doers had begun, Xixi’s heart trembled with fear, but it also knew there was nothing it could do.

Because those were the rules of the Main God Space.

They weren’t something just anyone had the power to change.

Unfortunately, Xixi’s comfort sounded completely baffling to Youyou. She tilted her head, her palm-sized, beautiful face showing clear confusion.

“A dream?”

Was I feeling bad because I had a nightmare? But why don’t I remember it?

Xixi: “…”

Knowing that the Host’s memory had once again been erased by some unknown force, Xixi bit its paw in the system space. But it also felt that it wouldn’t be any use even if its Host remembered. It had heard about that place from its system seniors: Shura City, surrounded by a sea of blood, where thousands of mission-doers were randomly teleported to slaughter one another.

In the end, only one person would be allowed to survive.

In Shura City, whether they were high-level or novice mission-doers, all would revert to their most fundamental state as a system-holder. There, they would no longer have the conveniences of a mission-doer. This meant that even if they wanted to kill someone, they could only engage in hand-to-hand combat. They couldn’t even obtain small items like daggers or food from the system store; they could only search for them within Shura City.

For mission-doers accustomed to all sorts of cheats and mission props, a place like Shura City was undoubtedly a death sentence.

Xixi had heard from its system seniors that during this period, the resources provided daily by Shura City would decrease. The mission-doers would go from being wary of each other and fending for themselves, to forming groups, and finally, to indiscriminate attacks. The bloodshed and cruelty could only be described as a human tragedy of epic proportions.

In fact, just by listening to the seniors’ descriptions, Xixi could imagine it. In such a harsh environment, all kindness and beauty would eventually be buried. Everyone would survive by stepping on the bones of others, drenched in blood, with no exceptions.

The seniors said that nearly all the mission-doers who had historically survived Shura City had gone insane. Aside from a small few who retained their sanity, the rest were “humanely destroyed” by the Main God himself when they could no longer control themselves.

It could be said that its Host’s brother and brother-in-law had truly terrible luck to be randomly selected for Shura City out of countless mission-doers. The odds were far, far smaller than one in a hundred million.

Oh, wait.

Her brother had brought this on himself, all because of that trouble-making Su Ling.

Xixi didn’t want its Host to know about these things, because it understood that she couldn’t save Bai Qu and Su Ling. Knowing would only bring her more grief.

A trace of pity flickered in its golden cat eyes. Although Xixi, as a system, didn’t care much about the life or death of other mission-doers, the thought of Shura City’s horrors made it thankful that its own Host hadn’t been chosen this time.

[System: Yes, it’s okay if the Host has forgotten. It was just a nightmare, nothing more.]

‘Oh.’

The baseless feeling of distress gradually dissipated with Xixi’s comfort. Youyou dawdled in bed for a while longer before getting up to change and wash up.

Breakfast was bought by Su Duo.

The little girl who was once malnourished, thin, and had dull, yellow hair had, after this period of care, blossomed into a budding beauty. Although her expression was cold and trending towards that of an ice queen, in front of Youyou, Su Duo was still very well-behaved and dependable, like a little adult.

Understanding the importance of high school, Youyou had originally wanted to sign Su Duo up for some tutoring classes during the summer break, but Su Duo refused.

She said she had already started previewing the upcoming lessons and told Youyou not to worry. Youyou had nodded at the time and then put the matter out of her mind.

A notice had been posted at the bookstore, stating it would open on Friday afternoons.

Youyou had become extremely lazy recently, spending her days at home as a freeloader.

The soup dumplings from the street corner were exceptionally delicious. Youyou squinted her eyes in enjoyment, her delicate face looking especially fair and tender in the morning.

An imperceptible smile flashed in Su Duo’s dark eyes. She also took a bite of a soup dumpling, but she could never replicate Youyou’s expression.

After quickly finishing her own breakfast, Su Duo propped her chin on her hand and watched the slowly chewing girl. “Don’t you want to do anything, Youyou? Like go shopping or travel? Don’t you get bored staying at home all day?”

Even she would sometimes go out with her classmates.

But Youyou always stayed cooped up at home, never going anywhere.

“Nope.”

She was already used to it.

The only difference was that the place she used to stay was a very, very large villa, filled with the dominos, puzzles, and other things she liked.

Swallowing the rich broth in her mouth, Youyou slurped down some more soup before speaking to Su Duo at Xixi’s prompting.

“How about I sign you up for a tour group? Do you want to travel domestically or internationally?”

Xixi had said that girls Su Duo’s age were at a stage where they were curious about everything. The fact that she had suggested traveling and shopping meant that her heart was restless and full of anticipation. Therefore, as an older sister, she should encourage her to go see this beautiful and magical world.

Her eyes seemed to sparkle like stars.

Youyou gave Su Duo a sweet smile.

For a moment, Su Duo was at a loss for words, her eyes suddenly moist.

“Youyou, I want… to go… with… you.”

She lowered her head, not wanting Youyou to see her losing her composure. In Su Duo’s eyes, although Youyou was older, her mind was much simpler and more childish. Therefore, she should be the one to accommodate and take care of Youyou.

“Oh, is that so? But I want to wait for Bai Qu at home. How about I go with you next time?”

Youyou’s brow furrowed for a moment before her face broke into a wide smile. She began to count the days on her fingers, her mind drifting off into carefree daydreams, her whole body glowing with a soft light. “When the time comes, it’ll be the two of us, plus Bai Qu and Fu Shu, and maybe even that rascal Su Ling. Five people! Su Ling can carry the bags, Bai Qu can buy the food, Fu Shu can feed…”

She assigned tasks to each person one by one, making it sound quite convincing. A smile tugged at Su Duo’s lips, and she silently thanked Youyou in her heart.

She understood that Bai Qu wasn’t a man whose kindness overflowed. The reason he had saved her back then was definitely because of Youyou.

“Okay.”

Whatever you say is fine.

Following Su Duo’s wishes, Youyou happily signed her up for a domestic tour group. For the now-truly-wealthy Youyou, as long as Su Duo was happy, she was willing to spend any amount of money, la la la la.

On the day of departure, Youyou gave Su Duo a lot of extra money and reminded her to be careful, to always keep her phone charged, to call immediately if anything happened, to report her status twice a day in the morning and evening, and so on and so forth. Watching Su Duo get on the bus with a look of resignation, Youyou pouted, still feeling very worried.

[System: Host, the one who is least reassuring is you, okay?]

Xixi couldn’t help but want to complain. In all its long existence, Xixi had never seen a person like its Host.

She was weak, pure, easily swayed, and far too trusting.

Every time it saw a mission target deceiving the Host, Xixi felt a strange sense of exasperation.

Honestly, even Xixi, a “White Lotus Female Lead” System, felt that the fact its Host had not been hurt or harmed yet was nothing short of… a massive miracle.

‘Huh?’

I’m always well-behaved. Why am I not reassuring?

Scratching her head in confusion, Youyou skipped back to her apartment complex, and right at the bottom of her building, she saw two men in sharp, well-tailored suits.

They were incredibly, incredibly handsome.

‘Wow.’

She couldn’t help but stop and watch the two men walk past her. Her undisguised admiration made the two men feel both amused and helpless.

They knew the President’s wife was a “face-con” and that their own President was trying every trick in the book to woo this young woman. However, even though the President’s wife’s gaze was pure and innocent, if the President were to find out… she would still skin them alive. (We’re going to cry our eyes out.)

Unaware of the two men’s miserable thoughts, Youyou finished admiring the beauties and went upstairs to her apartment. She eagerly threw herself onto the sofa, turned on the TV, and became engrossed in a long-running anime series, thinking to herself that before she left this world, her favorite shows had to finish updating, please.

For Youyou, who had grown up with only building blocks and dominos for company, loneliness wasn’t scary, nor did she feel lonely.

And when she became completely immersed in something, her other senses of the outside world would begin to blur.

Day after day.

There was still no news from Bai Qu and Su Ling.

The number of times Youyou frowned and zoned out increased, something even Fu Shu noticed. In the end, it was Xixi who came up with a solution. In a gentle voice, shaking its head sagely, it began to educate its Host on the greatness of the Main God Space.

[System: Host, the flow of time in the Main God Space is different. For example, a few years in this world could be just a few days, or a few hundred years, in another world.]

[System: Just like Xixi has told you before, the entire lifetime you experience in each mission world is just a short day in the original world. Therefore, it’s meaningless for the Host to worry here.]

The Main God Space was an existence that transcended time and space.

Perhaps at this very moment, a world was going from birth to destruction.

Youyou: “…”

‘So what you mean, Xixi, is that even though so much time has passed here, maybe Bai Qu and Su Ling haven’t even met yet? It’s possible Bai Qu is still on his way?’

[System: That’s right.]

Deceiving its Host without the slightest pressure, to System Xixi, no person or thing was more important than its own Host—except, of course, the omnipotent Main System.

‘Oh, I see!’

The gloom in her eyes vanished, replaced by a radiant vitality. Youyou pressed her pink lips together, but she still couldn’t stop the slight upward curve at the corners of her mouth.

After a long moment, Youyou let out a soft hmph and muttered under her breath.

‘I’m putting a black mark next to Bai Qu and Su Ling’s names for making me worry. When I see them, I’m going to make Bai Qu buy me lots and lots of good food.’

[System: I agree, Host.]
