RoCD Chapter 69

Arc 5: The Vengeful Ghost — The Bone Beauty (2)

Hearing that it was Xixi who had been mistaken, Youyou let out a genuine sigh of relief.

After all, she was still terrified of things like dead bodies and female corpses.

An unnatural flush colored her delicate features. Dazed, Youyou remained kneeling on the floor and offered the woman a sincere and earnest apology.

“S-Sorry… I… I didn’t do it on purpose.”

Although she couldn’t remember the specifics of what had happened, it seemed that she (YY) had bullied her.

Inside the dim, dilapidated temple, the young girl in red sat up with unhurried grace. Her features were delicate, her hair black against her snow-white skin. An icy flame flickered deep within her dark pupils as her gaze fixed on a sight she had yearned for endlessly—Youyou’s petal-soft pink lips. She smoothly wrapped an arm around Youyou’s waist, her peach blossom eyes narrowing.

“My lady need not say sorry to Wuyou[mfn](t/n: “娘子” was used again, but i have shortened it to ‘my lady’ for better flow. The ghost’s name, ”无忧” Wúyōu, literally means “no worries” or “without sorrow,” which is really ironic given her apparent suffering and resentment.)[/mfn].”

“Wuyou likes it when my lady is unrestrained with me.”

As they pressed together, a bone-chilling cold radiated from the woman’s body. Youyou stiffened imperceptibly but instinctively hugged the woman tighter.

“You’re so cold. Is this any warmer?”

The sweet, soft voice overlapped with the images in her memory. Wuyou rested her chin on the young girl’s shoulder, a faint, ghostly smile playing on her lips as she gazed at the curtain of rain outside the temple.

“Mm.”

But she was still so cold.

How could this little bit of warmth ever be enough for all that she had suffered?

“Th-That’s good, then.”

Not to mention, this person was the first person she had met in this world. Just based on Youyou’s character, she couldn’t bear to see this great beauty suffer from the cold. Suppressing her body’s trembling, she obediently stayed still. Youyou asked Xixi: ‘What do I need to do? What is the mission in this world? What is the goal?

Youyou knew that this was her fifth mission, and she also knew that she had succeeded in all the previous missions, but she had no memory of those missions at all.

Xixi said that those memories would be retrieved by something the moment she returned to the system space, and Youyou didn’t care about this because she had already forgotten them, and she wasn’t too curious about it.

The memories in that space were enough to make Youyou feel close to Xixi. She asked Xixi gently, with an appearance of being very obedient and soft. Xixi was still super satisfied with her host.

Except for being easily deceived, her host was simply perfect.

It was just that this world was too much of a scam.

Considering what she had learned from the previous cycles, Xixi said woodenly: [The host doesn’t need to do anything this time, just follow this female ghost, no, this Miss Wuyou.]

Anyway, in the recent cycles, this female ghost’s attitude towards her host had become better and better, except for the bit of difficulty at the end when she was burned to death by fire.

Other than that, it was much better than those souls in the city.

‘Okay, I got it.’

Having confirmed the goal, Youyou’s attitude towards the woman became even softer. Her eyelashes trembled as she asked in a light and sweet tone: “Your name is Wuyou? That name sounds so nice.”

Of course it sounds nice, because you personally gave it to her.

The sticky and cold gaze moved from outside the temple to the young girl. The female ghost tilted her head slightly, and her bright red lips slowly pressed against the girl’s fair and delicate neck.

Warm, sweet, and with the unique body fragrance of a girl.

The female ghost stuck out her cold tongue and licked it, and felt the girl under her suddenly tremble, but she was pliant and did not struggle.

A bit of satisfaction flashed through her ink-black pupils. The female ghost lowered her eyelids, her voice cheerful and seductive, a complete mismatch with her expression.

“Mm, I also like the name Wuyou, but what is my lady called?… My lady is so cute, her name must be even prettier than Wuyou, right?”

Although she had long known the little lady’s name, the female ghost still asked. She saw the ghostly energy she exhaled rapidly enter the little girl’s body, and then she saw the little girl’s life force dim even more.

Staring intently at the small flame that was small and seemed as if it would be extinguished in the next second, the female ghost looked away and signaled for Youyou to let her go.

“Er, you’re not cold anymore?”

Although Youyou herself was cold, it was obvious that Wuyou was even colder.

Following the beauty’s instruction, she hesitantly let her go. Youyou scratched her hair and smiled sweetly, a smile that seemed to scorch the female ghost’s heart in an instant.

“My name is Youyou, Bai Youyou. It’s not as pretty as Wuyou.”

Her name was given to her by her older brother. Her proper name was Youyou, and her pet name was Baobao. He said it meant to protect and bless her.

However, although Youyou was very silly and naive, she also knew that a name like Baobao was very embarrassing, so after she gradually grew up, she forbade Bai Qu and Su Ling from calling her that anymore.[mfn](t/n: Her proper name, Yòuyòu (佑佑), uses a character meaning “to protect/bless.” Her pet name, Bǎobǎo (宝宝), means “baby” or “treasure” and is a very common term of endearment for children in China. Her brother’s explanation connects them: “hùyòu, bǎoyòu bǎobao” (护佑、保佑宝宝) means “to protect (佑) and bless (保佑) the baby (宝宝).” It’s a punny and affectionate way to name someone.)[/mfn]

Her clothes were stained with dust, and it was pouring rain outside. Youyou was both cold and hungry, and she unnaturally touched her flat stomach.

‘Xixi, I want to eat something. Is there anything good to eat here?’

After all, she had never been hungry in her entire life. Besides, this place was dirty and dilapidated; she missed the big bed at home, and the soft sofa.

Xixi: …

How could there be food in a ghost city? Even if there was, it wouldn’t be fit for human consumption!

Since it knew this, it exchanged its points for a few white mantou[mfn](t/n: mantou is a type of plain, white, steamed bun that is a staple food in Northern China. It has no filling. Buying mantou emphasizes that the system is getting her the most basic, inexpensive food available to conserve points.)[/mfn] from the system store. Because it had too few points, and the host didn’t know how long she would have to stay here, Xixi could only be frugal, calculating its points and buying the cheapest kind of food.

Youyou naturally noticed the extra items in her clothes.

She reached in and fished around, and two mantou appeared in her hand.

Youyou: …

Somehow, she’d come to hate eating dry mantou.
