RoCD Chapter 80

Arc 5: The Vengeful Ghost — The Bone Beauty (13)

Fairy?

Beauty?

Forcefully, she ground the cigarette butt on the floor again and again. Mo Qingwu asked Youyou with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, “What kind of celestial beauty could make Miss Bai so eager to see her? Can Miss Bai describe her to me in detail?”

“Huh?”

Gazing dazedly at Mo Qingwu, Youyou tilted her head slightly and said in complete confusion, “If you want to know, why don’t you just come and see for yourself?”

Although in the plot, Shui Sisi hadn’t met the supervillain at this point, Youyou wasn’t about to stop the two female leads from meeting.

The red-haired, red-dressed girl before her had a bewildered expression and a clean gaze.

Her long, curly eyelashes fluttered, exceptionally alluring. Mo Qingwu’s gaze lingered for a few moments on the girl’s exposed neck and slender arms. Her throat moved slightly, and her fingers restlessly caressed the women’s cigarette case in her pocket, finding it exceptionally hard to bear.

Knowing that if she stayed any longer, things would definitely develop in an uncontrollable direction, Mo Qingwu did her utmost to endure, and finally managed to squeeze the words out from between her teeth.

“Next time. I can’t get away from here for the time being.”

Once she sorted out this impulse that she could barely suppress, she would properly accompany her to see that so-called celestial beauty.

“Oh.”

Secretly marveling at the power of the plot, Youyou began to slowly inch toward the stairs.

She kept turning her head to observe Mo Qingwu’s reaction. Seeing that she was just watching quietly and no longer had any intention of grabbing her, Youyou immediately took off with abandon, clattering down the stairs.

That frantic retreat left Mo Qingwu completely stunned.

“Tsk, she really is just a child.”

Shaking her head lightly, Mo Qingwu unhurriedly took out a tissue, picked up the cigarette butt from the floor, and tossed it into the trash can, a faint smile constantly playing on her lips.

Downstairs, Youyou, having run to the sixty-sixth floor, was met with an extremely enthusiastic welcome. Because the original owner was the president’s sister, the great miss of the Bai Corporation, everyone—with the exception of the female lead Shui Sisi, who would treat her with disdain—would at least show goodwill toward the original owner, even if they weren’t outright fawning over her.

Beaming, she smiled back at the others.

The foolishly sweet Youyou was completely incapable of sensing other people’s inner thoughts. Anyway, as long as others smiled at her, she would be happy.

She walked all the way to Shui Sisi’s private office. As a middle manager at the Bai Corporation’s branch, Shui Sisi was also a graduate of a prestigious university with competent professional skills. By now, she already had her own network and social circle. If not for this, she wouldn’t have been able to connect with Mo Qingwu so easily in the plot.

She knocked on the door and turned the handle.

Youyou poked her head in and, with a beaming smile, said to the female lead who looked up at her, “Good morning, Shui Sisi.”

She really is beautiful.

Originally, Shui Sisi already possessed a tranquil and spiritual kind of beauty. Now, after having her marrow cleansed and bones refined by the medicinal pills, the female lead sitting behind the desk seemed as if she had been reborn. Her skin was so fair it seemed to glow, her aura was as ethereal as a fairy’s, and her eyes, as if washed by water, were sparkling, moving, and crystal-clear.

Although… it seemed like the antagonist was even better-looking?

[It doesn’t ‘seem’ like it. It’s a fact.]

Catching its host’s thought, Xixi stated the facts.

Having spent a long time with its face-con host, Xixi had also come to understand and appreciate human beauty. For instance, right now, although Shui Sisi was very beautiful after taking the medicinal pill, she still couldn’t compare to the great antagonist, Mo Qingwu.

It was just like how among the task-takers under the Main God Space, there were many who would use points to alter or optimize their faces, figures, auras, and charm. But in the grand scheme of things, each world had a few special existences who were uniquely blessed and unlike mortals, individuals who wouldn’t be outshone even when compared to those task-takers.

And Mo Qingwu, clearly, belonged to that category.

Her thoughts only lasted a few moments. Seeing Youyou like this, Shui Sisi was first taken aback, then she put down the document in her hand, rubbed her brow, and said, “What is it now, Miss Bai?”

She was truly tired. Although the salary and benefits at the Bai Corporation were decent, she had already accumulated a good deal of experience and connections. If this great miss continued to cause her trouble for no reason, then there was no need for her to stay here any longer.

Shui Sisi’s coldness made Youyou’s body stiffen slightly. She gave an awkward smile, her soft and sweet voice sounding exceptionally hypocritical to Shui Sisi’s ears.

“I just wanted to come and see you. Um, you can continue with your work. I’ll be going now.”

Closing the door with a guilty and apprehensive heart, Youyou clutched her chest and said to Xixi: ‘It seems the female lead really dislikes the original body, huh?’

[That’s only natural. The original body was born into a wealthy family, has a pampered and willful personality, and has no real merits to speak of. She’s the exact type of person that the self-reliant and strong Shui Sisi detests the most.] The Shui Sisi of this world wasn’t a bad person. Every decision she made was one that any ordinary person would make. At least, compared to Mo Qingwu, Shui Sisi was already sufficiently kind.

Giving a lazy yawn, Xixi saw that its host wasn’t dejected and said in a gentle voice: [You’ve seen Shui Sisi, so what’s the host’s next move? The most pressing matter now is to befriend someone more powerful and influential than Mo Qingwu. So, staying at the company any longer is rather pointless.]

‘Mmm.’

Scratching her hair, Youyou said bluntly, ‘I don’t know.’

Having stayed in the Bai family villa since she was a child and only occasionally going out to play, Youyou’s entire understanding of the world was built on the teachings of Bai Qu and Su Ling, as well as things like television, her phone, the internet, and books. It could be said that Youyou was severely lacking in common sense. Faced with the vast and complicated world outside without anyone to guide her, Youyou simply couldn’t adapt.

Xixi: …

Clearly, this was asking too much of its host. Xixi bit its cat paw and said: [Don’t panic, host. Let’s go upstairs and play some games to relax, okay? Like a shooting game or a puzzle game. The host will definitely like them.]

Although it was the tone one would use to coax a child, Youyou found it particularly comforting.

She nodded enthusiastically, a little impatient to get started.

Youyou, a girl of action, immediately puffed out her cheeks and ran upstairs. Meanwhile, the office behind her was slowly being enveloped by an unknown power. The viscous black energy that gradually spread outwards was invisible to others, but Shui Sisi, as the master of the ancient ring, could see it with perfect clarity.

Her pretty face turned deathly pale. Shui Sisi gripped the edge of her desk, her legs having already gone limp. She stared in horror at the red-robed woman who had suddenly appeared in her room and stammered, “H-how did you get out?”

She had recently obtained an ancient ring. Inside the ring was a magical space, as well as all sorts of rare and precious items. But Shui Sisi was both happy and terrified by this, often unable to sleep, because there was a terrifying ring spirit inside. It was called a spirit, but Shui Sisi felt that it was more terrifying than a ghost or a demon.

Her heart pounded wildly. Forcing down her fear, Shui Sisi tried to summon the dignity of a master and reprimanded the ring spirit.

“Didn’t I tell you not to come out without permission? This world has no ghosts, gods, or demon spirits. Your existence will cause a panic.”

Shui Sisi felt extremely fortunate that she was now the master of the ancient ring.

Otherwise, she would have no way of suppressing this ring spirit, which reeked of blood.

Hearing Shui Sisi’s words, the red-robed woman standing in the center of the room—the so-called ring spirit of the ancient ring—slowly turned her gaze upon her.

What kind of eyes were those?

Scarlet pupils, as bewitchingly beautiful as blood, flickered with a mad, obsessive light. Like a man-eating beast, they were utterly cold and merciless.

Shui Sisi scrambled to avoid the ring spirit’s gaze, but in the next instant, the ring spirit had her by the throat. A bone-chillingly cold female voice held an infinite iciness. The ring spirit tugged at the corner of its lips, the killing intent and bloodlust in its red eyes so thick it was almost overflowing. “Human, what I do does not require your permission.”

Although its memory was a complete blank, the ring spirit knew that it loathed humans.

The force in its hand grew stronger and stronger. The ring spirit watched with something akin to enjoyment as Shui Sisi’s face turned ashen and her life force gradually slipped away.

A flash of cruel pleasure appeared in its cold, blood-red eyes.

The pain in its soul grew more and more intense. The ring spirit glanced disdainfully at the ancient ring on Shui Sisi’s left hand, which was meant to protect its master, and listlessly released its grip.

“Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough—”

The woman’s violent coughing made the red-robed ring spirit frown in displeasure. It gave Shui Sisi a cold look, as if looking at a dead person, and then, following that familiar scent, teleported out of the office.

“Cough, cough… s-someday…”

Slumped over the desk, Shui Sisi coughed forcefully, a heart-wrenching, lung-tearing sound. She caressed the ancient ring on her hand, her pretty face twisted into a terrifying mask of pain and anger. “Someday, I will completely tame you, and I will return all the pain you have inflicted upon me. No, I’ll return it twofold. Just you wait!”

If, when she first met the ring spirit, Shui Sisi’s heart had been moved by its devastating beauty, now, all she wanted was to tame it.

As for any other thoughts, they could wait until after it was tamed.

Looking at the ancient ring on her hand, a glint appeared in Shui Sisi’s eyes. She knew she couldn’t wait any longer. There was a cultivation method in the ancient ring that was suitable for her. Originally, she had wanted to fully recuperate her body before starting to cultivate, but now, the ring spirit’s power was growing stronger and stronger. If she didn’t work hard, she feared the ring spirit would devour its master.

During the summer, the company had the air conditioning on, so even if it suddenly grew colder, no one noticed a thing.

Fortunately, the chill was fleeting. But Youyou was extremely unlucky.

She hadn’t even turned on her computer before she was shivering from the cold. In the small break room adjacent to the president’s office, Youyou rubbed her arms, huddled in a corner of the sofa, and asked Xixi with her thoughts: ‘It’s so cold, Xixi. Is the AC broken?’

Xixi: …

[H-holy crap?!]

How did she get here?!

Wasn’t she unable to leave the ghost city?!

For a moment, Xixi began to suspect there was something wrong with its own eyes. After all, the barriers between worlds were not so easily crossed. Besides the chosen ones, the Main System, and the task-takers and systems under it, only those powerful enough to shatter the void of origin could enter a few select worlds.

Had the female ghost become that powerful already?

Xixi refused to believe it.
