Chapter 81 part 2
So they stopped a passerby on the road. This passerby was none other than Qin Jiuzhen, who had left the fields because he couldn’t stand the work.
“Young man, wait a moment.”
Qin Jiuzhen was already annoyed. He had been working in the fields for so long, accomplishing nothing but getting exhausted. His feet hurt even when he walked, and he just wanted to go back and rest. He didn’t expect some people to stop him on the road. If it weren’t for their seemingly good temper, he wouldn’t have stopped.
Qin Jiuzhen: “What’s the matter?”
Although he stopped, his tone wasn’t very good, very cold.
Yuan Zhuo: “We want to ask about Liu Zhongyuan. Do you know him?”
Qin Jiuzhen blinked: “You’re asking about Liu Zhongyuan? What for? What’s your relationship with him?”
Yuan Qingfeng smiled, his tone gentle: “What relationship? He’s our family’s slave!”
Qin Jiuzhen was stunned. Slave? What kind of feudalistic talk was this? However… these people looked a bit down on their luck but their words and actions revealed traces of upper-class people, which seemed to have some use-value.
Qin Jiuzhen smiled and said, “So that’s how it is. Then I can tell you that Liu Zhongyuan is the captain of one of our two Variant Beast Transformation squads. Each squad has three terrifyingly powerful Variant beastmen, specializing in carrying out super dangerous missions personally issued by the General Captain.”
Upon hearing this, they were all stunned. None of them expected that Liu Zhongyuan becoming a captain would mean this! He himself was actually a Variant Beastman!
In that case, wouldn’t Liu Zhongyuan be able to easily take care of them? It wasn’t a loss at all, so they quickly asked for more information.
Jiang Meng: “Then tell us, where does he live?”
Qin Jiuzhen thought for a moment: “It just so happens that I’m going that way, I’ll take you there.”
Yuan Zhuo: “Great, let’s go.”
Qin Jiuzhen asked as they walked: “What’s your relationship with Liu Zhongyuan…”
Jiang Meng: “He’s my son, but he’s not a good thing, he doesn’t deserve to be a son, he can only be someone unrelated. But now that he’s capable, he can reluctantly serve us.”
Qin Jiuzhen looked at this family. So they were Liu Zhongyuan’s parents and siblings. They used to be a wealthy family, but did they have so much money that it rotted their brains?
Why did these four think that such an attitude could make Liu Zhongyuan support them? His brother’s attitude towards them was clear. Liu Zhongyuan and his brother were together, sharing similar interests. They didn’t look like suckers at all.
“Are you sure Liu Zhongyuan will take good care of you?”
They saw Qin Jiuzhen’s hesitant expression, and Yuan Zhuo asked, “What’s wrong? Is there something we don’t know about him?”
Qin Jiuzhen: “Liu Zhongyuan’s beast form is a fifty-meter-long giant snake, with a huge body, a violent temper, and a bloodthirsty nature. When he was killing semi-transformed beasts outside before, he would directly sweep them away with his tail or smash them into meat paste!”
“Every time he comes back, he’s covered in blood, not his own blood, but the blood of his prey. Not only that, but he has a boyfriend, Qin Jiulin, who is a member of the squad and also a variant beastman. His beast form is a giant tiger.”
“Every time they go on a mission, they cooperate with each other and fight fiercely. Their ferocity can’t be expressed in words. If you can really control them, then of course there’s no problem. But if you can’t control them, then I advise you to soften your attitude later, or they might find an opportunity to kill you.”
Yuan Zhuo gasped: “Fifty meters… giant snake?”
Qin Jiuzhen: “Yes.”
Yuan Qingning: “Mom and Dad, that little bastard surnamed Liu’s beast form is so terrifying. Will he really kill us? It’s just a matter of a flick of his tail!”
Jiang Meng nervously smoothed her hair: “That’s hard to say. Let’s go try it out. Otherwise, are you going to sleep in that large dormitory?”
They had already gone with the soldiers to the place where they could stay for free, but that kind of place was simply unbearable. All kinds of bad smells, the smell of sweat, the smell of feet, the sour smell of clothes that hadn’t been washed for a long time, and the pillows in the sleeping area were full of hair and even dandruff. How could they endure such a place?
When Jiang Meng mentioned the large dormitory, they all fell silent. It was impossible to go back. They had to find Liu Zhongyuan. Seeing their determination, Qin Jiuzhen said, “Since you’ve decided, come this way, it’s not far ahead.”
Qin Jiuzhen led them all the way to the gate of the residential area where only beastmen and soldiers could live. Of course, there were also guards here. This residential area was not accessible to just anyone.
He pointed at the residential area from the gate: “Liu Zhongyuan lives here. The rest is up to you. I’m just showing you the way. I have other things to do, so I’ll leave first.”
Yuan Zhuo: “Thank you for bringing us here.”
Qin Jiuzhen waved his hand and quickly walked away. However, after turning the corner, he didn’t leave immediately but secretly observed their situation from there.
Yuan Zhuo and the others slowly approached the gate. The security guard standing at the gate immediately glared at them: “What do you want? This isn’t a place for you. Leave quickly!”
Yuan Zhuo: “Comrade, don’t be so hasty. We’re here to find someone.”
Security Guard: “Find someone? Who are you looking for? Don’t tell me you’re here to claim kinship again? Then tell me, whose father or brother are you in this residential area?”
The other security guard laughed and said, “Could it be Captain Liu’s father?”
Security Guard: “Nonsense, isn’t Captain Liu an orphan? Where did his parents come from?”
“Oh, I was just saying that. Don’t take it seriously!”
Then Yuan Zhuo said: “If you’re talking about Liu Zhongyuan, then he is indeed my son.”
Both security guards were stunned as they heard this, staring at him in disbelief. Then they looked at each other, seeing speechlessness in each other’s eyes.
“Wow, I didn’t expect I’d actually guess right this time!”
Yuan Zhuo: “In that case, can we go in and find him?”
The security guard sneered: “If you are really Captain Liu’s relatives, you wouldn’t have come here yourselves. At the very beginning, you would have stated your true identities, the soldiers who received you would have reported it, and then the military would have contacted Captain Liu for you. Captain Liu would have confirmed your identities with you, and finally, he would have personally come to pick you up. Also, let me tell you, everyone living here is military personnel or beastmen. Even their family members are not allowed to live here, but in another residential area!”
“You don’t even know this, and you want to impersonate Captain Liu’s family? Aren’t you brainless?”
Only then did Yuan Zhuo realize that they couldn’t come here directly. They had made it so clear, almost explicitly stating that those who came here directly were impostors, all fake.
Jiang Meng pulled his hand: “Husband, what should we do now? That little… he definitely doesn’t want to acknowledge us. Are we just going to give up? I… I don’t want to sleep there…”
Moreover, after a few days, they would need to work for food and shelter. If that were the case, they would have to do manual labor. Where did the four of them have the strength and experience for that?
Yuan Zhuo: “Let’s wait here. Liu Zhongyuan definitely lives inside. Let’s wait. Didn’t he say he was going on a mission? He’ll definitely be back before dark.”
They thought it made sense, so they found a relatively good spot nearby to sit down and wait. Qin Jiuzhen in the distance, however, was a little confused. Why didn’t they continue to pester the security guards?
He thought about it and decided to leave. After all, if he wanted to continue staying here, it would be a waste of time. Who knew how long they would wait?
He had heard that Liu Zhongyuan and the others were on a mission and not here. Did they have to wait until they returned after completing the mission? How many days would that take?
Qin Jiuzhen didn’t know that Liu Zhongyuan and the others had finished their mission and returned. After thinking it through, he went straight home. He was holding his reward for working in the fields for the past few days: five kilograms of vegetables. This was the reward for three days of work. It was really too little. The two who were about as thin as him could get five or six kilograms in two days, but he could only get this much in three days. Those who were strong and worked more could get three or four kilograms a day.
Before leaving, Qin Jiuzhen took a picture with the phone Xia Liansheng gave him and sent it to him. Then he briefly told him what had just happened.
The Yuan family didn’t wait for Liu Zhongyuan and Qin Jiulin to come back first, but Xia Liansheng came back first. Xia Liansheng held his phone, looked at the photo, and compared it with the four people resting by the roadside. After confirming it was them, he walked over.
Yuan Zhuo saw someone coming over and stood up: “You are…”
Xia Liansheng: “I’m Xia Liansheng, I live in this residential area, and I’m a variant beastman, just like Liu Zhongyuan.”
Yuan Zhuo remembered what Qin Jiuzhen had just told them. Now, besides the military, there were only two variant Beast Transformation squads. One was Liu Zhongyuan’s squad, and the other was presumably the squad of the person in front of him.
“So it’s Mr. Xia, nice to meet you… Huh? You’re Xia Liansheng, you’re… the Xia Liansheng from the Xia family?”
Xia Liansheng smiled: “Yes, I am indeed that Xia Liansheng. I didn’t expect Mr. Yuan to have fallen to this point.”
Yuan Zhuo felt inferior in front of someone who was originally far beneath his family, which was really uncomfortable, but although he was arrogant, he could still act.
Yuan Zhuo: “This is also due to force majeure. After all, we weren’t lucky enough to awaken as beastmen. If we had been, at least we wouldn’t be like this now.”
Xia Liansheng thought that even if these people became beastmen, they would only cower in the rear, taking it for granted that others would protect them, instead of going out to protect others.
If there was any danger, they would be the ones to run the fastest.
Xia Liansheng: “Are you here looking for someone?”
Yuan Zhuo’s eyes lit up: “Yes, we’re looking for Liu Zhongyuan. You must know him, right? He’s a captain like you.”
Xia Liansheng: “That’s right, I do know him. This person even took the opportunity to steal my boyfriend.”
Yuan Zhuo thought for a moment: “Your boyfriend, is he… the eldest son of the Qin family?”
