RRMGEH Chapter 6

Gu Changheng Is Out of His Reach

“Okay.”

They switched seats.

Zhou Li drove to Night Shade while Gu Changheng sat in the passenger seat and stared blankly out at the bustling traffic. Memories of his time with Zhao Yunfeng flooded his mind.

Gu Changheng felt cold, a chill deep inside. He hoped to drink more wine to warm himself up.

The car parked steadily in front of the Night Shade bar.

Gu Changheng pushed the car door open with a cold expression. He walked inside, followed closely by Zhou Li.

The loud music and the messy dance floor enveloped them, a whirlwind of lights and drinks.

Gu Changheng ordered five bottles of whiskey from a server and found a dark and secluded corner to sit down.

By the time Zhou Li joined him, Gu Changheng had already poured himself nearly half a glass.

Zhou Li knew that he should say something to discourage him from drinking, but apart from the sentence, “There are plenty of other men in the world,” he couldn’t find the right words. He simply sat across from Gu Changheng and watched him down drink after drink.

One bottle, then another, and another…

The colorful lights danced across the face of Gu Changheng who was now completely drunk. Zhou Li felt indescribably sour in his heart.

The whiskey had a strong aftereffect.

Gu Changheng hadn’t eaten all evening.

On an empty stomach.

At this moment, he felt the alcohol hit him hard. His mind turned blank. Clutching the bottle, he appeared lost and pitiful. His eyes suddenly locked onto Zhou Li as he whispered, “I like you.”

Zhou Li’s heart raced at the words “I like you”.

During junior high school, Gu Changheng was rich, handsome, and academically gifted. He was prince charming in the eyes of many girls and in Zhou Li’s heart as well.

But Zhou Li came from a poor background and was somewhat socially awkward, so he could only observe Gu Changheng from afar.

Although they were in the same class, Gu Changheng never noticed him.

In Zhou Li’s memory, the only time Gu Changheng had looked directly at him was when he said, “Hey, you’re in my way. Can you move?”

It was obviously a plain sentence, but it made Zhou Li’s ears turn red for the entire afternoon.

It was young love.

The most bittersweet and unforgettable time.

Before Zhou Li could fully grasp whether Gu Changheng’s “like” was directed at him, Gu Changheng doused his excitement with cold water. “Zhao Yunfeng, I like you so much. How can you treat me this way?”

“Because of you, my parents kicked me out of the Gu family. I can’t find a job in Gu City, and I don’t even dare to see my old friends. I’ve had to learn to do laundry and cook!”

“Zhao Yunfeng, you bastard!”

Zhou Li felt a bit of his rationality return.

He realized how useless he was. After all these years, he didn’t make any progress towards Gu Changheng.

The alcohol hit hard, and Gu Changheng felt a splitting headache. He leaned on the table with his eyes closed. After about ten minutes, he finally felt better and stood up but lost his balance and stumbled.

Zhou Li quickly caught him.

Gu Changheng leaned awkwardly against Zhou Li and finally steadied himself. He rested his head on his shoulder and cursed in a low voice, “Bastard, son of a bitch.”

Zhou Li’s heart ached.

He seemed to understand why the once vibrant young man in his memory had turned into this after meeting him again after all these years.

Zhou Li didn’t dare to move, nor did he want to push Gu Changheng away.

He cherished the feeling of being leaned on by him.

Zhou Li paid the bill. He spent over 2000 yuan for several bottles of whiskey. It was more than half a month’s salary for Zhou Li, but he felt no regret at all.

As he carried Gu Changheng step by step out of the bar, Zhou Li felt a hint of joy at this moment.

Gu Changheng is out of his reach, someone he has never dared to imagine before.

Gu Changheng was too drunk, and Zhou Li couldn’t ask him where to take him, so he decided to drive him to his own home.

Zhou Li lived in a small high-rise building with stairs, and he bought the top floor.

After getting out of the car, every step he took while carrying Gu Changheng up the stairs felt sacred.

When he finally reached the top, Zhou Li hadn’t even walked enough. He wished he could add a few more steps and hold Gu Changheng all the way up.
