Chen Ling was determined to teach Chen Jiu a lesson.
However, how could everything go according to her plan?
Chen Jiu caught a chill and had nightmares, starting to run a fever in the middle of the night.
Chen Guangren wiped his sweat for over half an hour, but his temperature didn’t come down. He had to go out in the middle of the night with a lantern to fetch the doctor. The doctor prescribed medicine, and they had to go to the county to get it.
After brewing the medicine and feeding it to him, Chen Jiu still didn’t wake up.
After what happened yesterday, Chen Guangren no longer felt comfortable leaving Chen Ling to take care of Chen Jiu. He stayed home himself and sent Chen Ling and Lan Shi to plant seeds.
There wasn’t much farmland, and Chen Ling rarely helped in the fields. Today, she had to work in the fields!
She naturally didn’t want to, but seeing Chen Guangren’s stern face and being pulled along by Lan Shi, she had no choice but to grit her teeth, pick up the tools, and go to the fields, adding another layer to her hatred for Chen Jiu.
It wasn’t until noon that Chen Jiu gradually woke up.
Seeing his father dozing by the bedside, he gently called, “Father?”
“You’re awake? That’s good!” Chen Guangren woke up, looking much more relaxed seeing him awake.
“How long have I slept?” Chen Jiu saw the dark circles under his father’s eyes and felt heartache.
“It’s already noon. You really scared me this time!” Chen Guangren said, “How do you feel now? Still uncomfortable? Are you hungry? There’s still hot porridge in the kitchen. Should I bring some for you?”
His father’s concern warmed Chen Jiu’s heart. He didn’t feel too bad now, much better than in his previous life at this time, not to the point of being unable to move. So he shook his head, “I’m fine, just a bit hungry.”
“That’s good. I’ll bring the porridge now.”
Chen Jiu knew that if he insisted on going to the kitchen himself, his father wouldn’t be at ease, so he didn’t refuse. After eating the hot porridge with some vegetables, he urged his father to rest.
Seeing his father’s tired appearance, it was obvious he hadn’t slept all night.
Chen Guangren was indeed exhausted. Seeing Chen Jiu in better spirits after eating the porridge and feeling his forehead was no longer hot, he finally felt at ease and went to his room.
Left alone, Chen Jiu took out ten copper coins from the money he had saved and squeezed the jade pendant on him, which had now turned into a peach pit. He entered the space again.
The space looked different compared to the previous night.
There were now cages, baskets, and carrying baskets in the corners. The cracked land had been watered and was slowly coming back to life. The light was brighter, and a small sun could even be seen in the tiny space.
However, this sun was much gentler than the one outside, making Chen Jiu feel more comfortable.
Zhao Chen wasn’t in the space, and Chen Jiu was wondering how to call him in when suddenly, a wild rabbit appeared out of thin air in a corner cage, followed by a second and a third.
The three gray wild rabbits weren’t very big but were quite noticeable.
Chen Jiu was delighted. He squatted by the cage, staring at the rabbits huddled in the corner. He wanted to reach out and touch them but was afraid they might bite.
Wild rabbits are different from domesticated ones; they may seem docile but are quite wild.
In the end, he didn’t dare to touch them. He simply watched the cute little rabbits in the cage, wondering if more might appear.
There were no more rabbits. Outside, Zhao Chen watched as the rabbit that had bitten him and escaped disappeared into the dense forest. He sighed.
He had underestimated the wild animals.
Even the supposedly docile rabbit could bite hard.
But catching three was a good harvest.
Sensing that Chen Jiu had entered the space, Zhao Chen didn’t bother with the escaping rabbit anymore and quickly entered the space.
