“Mizutani-san, it’s been a while. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to stop by the shop recently.”

“No, no. It’s alright. I imagine police work keeps you busy.”

“It’s not easy. But it’s a job worth the challenge. This is my senior and partner from work, Honjou-san. Today, I’ve brought him here to have you help him find a tuxedo.”

The dapper man, Mizutani, turned to face Amane. “Oh…” he murmured. His voice was tinged with admiration as his grey eyes narrowed behind the lenses.

“Honjou-san, this is Mizutani-san, the owner of ‘Tailor Mizutani’. He’s quite well-known in the Alpha community for his passion for clothes, which led him to open his own shop.”

“Well-known, but mostly as an eccentric, mind you. I’m Mizutani. Pleased to meet you.”

“…”

It seemed Mizutani was aware of his reputation as an eccentric. Indeed, there wasn’t a trace of the typical Alpha arrogance or sense of superiority in the man before him. Amane stared silently at the hand extended by the Alpha who didn’t act like one.

Even though he was taking pills, there was still some risk in shaking hands with an Alpha during his heat period.

(But refusing now would be unnatural.)

Moreover, this was an opportunity to confirm the difference between Kouki and other Alphas.

Amane wanted to verify whether the resonance heat truly occurred only in his interactions with Kouki. Driven by this curiosity, he gently took Mizutani’s hand.

As a result, nothing happened. There was no electric shock and no resonance heat occurred.

As he reaffirmed that Kouki was indeed special to him, Mizutani smiled with wrinkles forming at the corners of his eyes.

“With such a handsome figure, it’ll be worth coordinating your outfit.”

“I think it might be difficult to get a bespoke suit made in time, so could we go with customising a ready-made one?” Kouki suggested.

“When do you need it by?” Mizutani inquired.

“This Sunday.”

“If it’s for Sunday, as long as we choose the suit today, it should be ready in time. Let’s get started right away.”

With an excited spring in his step, Mizutani headed back into the store. Kouki whispered into Amane’s ear, “It’s a bit late to be backing out now, isn’t it?”

Amane shot a glare at him, irritated at how the man had been moving things forward without his consent. “You’re the one who dragged me here in the first place.”

“What’s the matter?” Mizutani called out, holding one side of the double door open. Amane clicked his tongue in annoyance.

“I’m coming. Let’s go,” he muttered, following Kouki reluctantly into the store.

The first thing that caught his eye was a wooden spiral staircase in the centre of the store. It seemed to be quite old, with the handrail and boards gleaming darkly, perhaps having been relocated from a European mansion. The imposing staircase alone gave the store an air of prestige.

The interior had a vintage touch, with fabric wallpaper covering the walls, while the floors, ceiling, and furniture were all made of wood. Antique lamps and lighting fixtures, claw-foot sofas, wing chairs, and low tables were placed in a way that made it feel as if he had wandered into the parlour of someone’s grand mansion.

The shop sold only men’s items, with suits, shirts, neckties, bow ties, pocket squares, hats, gloves, belts, suspenders, and shoes all neatly categorised and displayed. Inside the glass cabinets and showcases were accessories such as cufflinks, pin badges, tie bars, watches, and glasses—items that were clearly handpicked by the owner with great care.

Having always purchased his clothes either second-hand or online, this was Amane’s first time in a proper menswear shop. As he roamed around, taking in the unfamiliar sights, Mizutani and Kouki were busily consulting each other and picking out items.

“Oh…”

Amane couldn’t help but utter a sound when he found himself face-to-face with a stag’s head mounted on the wall. Below this impressive hunting trophy stood a suit of silver armour holding a shield and spear, and next to it was a golden elephant statue. By this point, the decor had surpassed being mere antiques, entering the realm of artefacts. It was a world filled with the owner’s personal preferences, crammed with everything he loved—a hobbyist’s paradise that reeked of a wealthy man’s indulgence.

“Honjou-san.”

He turned around to find the two Alphas standing before him. Mizutani, holding a tuxedo suit and white shirt in his hands, began to speak.

“This tuxedo may look black at first glance. But if you look closely, it’s actually a dark navy. I believe this slightly modern hue will accentuate the natural elegance you possess better than the classic black would. The lapel is peak style with a facing overlay. As we’re adding a touch of colour with the suit, I suggest keeping the shirt in a traditional wing-collar style. What do you think?”

Before Amane could respond, Kouki, who was holding some accessories, spoke up.

“While a collared vest under the jacket is the standard, that can sometimes make things a bit too subdued. So I’ve chosen a cummerbund instead. It’s made of satin fabric in a deep purple that matches the bow tie. The pocket square is white cotton pique, and the shoes are black patent leather opera pumps. For these two items, I went with the classic choices to tie the overall look together. What do you think?”

Faced with consecutive presentations from these two eccentric Alphas, Amane had no idea how to respond when asked, “What do you think?” or “How about it?” He had zero knowledge of formalwear.

“…”

As he stood there, unable to react, Kouki seemed to catch on and suggested, “Let’s start with trying it on. We’ll make the judgement for you.”

“Indeed. Let’s do that,” Mizutani agreed.

He opened the door to a private room and gestured, “This way, please. This is the fitting room.”

“We’ll add the accessories later. So for now, please just change into the suit.”

Without any opportunity for discussion, the tuxedo suit and shirt were thrust into Amane’s hands, and he was somewhat forcibly pushed into the fitting room with the door slamming shut behind him.

The fitting room was surprisingly spacious, featuring an antique chair and a wooden coat hanger in the square space. One wall was a full-length mirror.

He stood there in a daze, staring at his own reflection in the mirror.

“…What kind of farce is this?”

In his entire life, he had never had the chance to wear a tuxedo, let alone even held one. And yet, here he was, in the fitting room of a tailor favoured by Alphas, located in the heart of Upper Hills.
