Yet, Kouki had picked up the faintest trace of Omega pheromones, barged into the scene, and scared off the target. Luckily, Kourogi had almost been fully reeled in…

As Amane recalled the sequence of events, the anger that had momentarily subsided began to boil up again. He glared fiercely at the man standing in front of him.

“You scared off the target I finally managed to get close to. What are you so pissed about? Do you really think I ‘wanted’ to cosy up to that tanned, sleazy Alpha old man? I tolerated his disgusting touches to find out the cause of Aya’s death!”

“I understand that… but you didn’t need to seduce him.”

“I’ve told you before—this is my weapon. What’s wrong with using it when the moment calls for it? It’s no different from how you used Shutou’s influence to get Kourogi to come here.”

Amane’s sharp retort made Kouki raise his voice, “Even so!” Immediately after, he took a deep breath, as if trying to control his temper. He then spoke in a flat tone.

“I don’t want you to use that weapon.”

The way Kouki pleaded, while also pushing his own demands, only served to irritate Amane further.

“Don’t act like you’re my boyfriend.”

Kouki’s shoulders trembled slightly at Amane’s outburst.

“Are you under some kind of delusion? And this tuxedo too—whether it’s a gift or whatever, it’s just a nuisance to me. And you had the nerve to say ‘I want you to enjoy the party,’ but how am I supposed to have fun surrounded by elitist Alphas and Omegas just looking for a ticket to the top? It’s disgusting!”

Amane spat out the frustration that had been welling up in his chest. Even then, he wasn’t done venting.

“With all this, it’s clear to me that we’re just too different. You grew up being waited on by butlers in a mansion as big as a palace, while I survived by scraping along in the streets. Our worlds are just too far apart.”

Even after Amane laid out his conclusion, Kouki remained unfazed.

“What does the past have to do with anything?”

“Huh?”

“History is important as a lesson for people to learn from, but the past is a fixed point. What matters more is the future, which is still uncertain. What we think, feel, decide, and do now—that’s what shapes the future. Alphas, Betas, Omegas—we’re all human, and the differences are just characteristics, like the differences between men and women. I don’t want to divide people into categories. I wish for a world without segregation and inequality.”

Hearing Kouki’s idealistic views, spoken so earnestly, made Amane’s blood boil.

“Then let me ask you something. Your brother hosts these parties to gather Omegas, looking for his ‘soulmate’. But if he finds one, will he take responsibility and marry them after they’ve had his kid?”

Kouki hesitated, “That’s…”

Seeing Kouki struggle to respond, Amane felt a bitter satisfaction.

(Serves you right. Don’t spout ideals you can’t live up to, rich boy.)

Fully aware of his own cynicism, Amane let out a mocking snort.

“I knew it. No way that high-class mother of yours would ever accept an Omega as a bride. She’d take the kid and keep the Omega as a lifelong mistress. Meanwhile, the marriage partner would be chosen from a prestigious Alpha family. In the end, all you Alphas ever think about is using Omegas like pawns.”

Using a ‘soulmate’ just to ensure a superior bloodline—it was the height of eugenic thinking.

A classic case of Alphas exploiting Omegas’ biological traits.

Even Kourogi, who used Omega looks for business and pushed them into sex work, was guilty of the same.

“That’s not true! At least, I’m not like that…”

Kouki protested, but Amane’s voice grew louder in response.

“You’re no different!”

Amane knew that Kouki was just caught up in the lingering pleasure of their ‘resonance heat’. The intense bond they shared was only temporary.

Once the heat passed, the cold, harsh reality between them—an insurmountable divide—would still remain.

“I understand that it may not happen right away. But in time, I want to work with my brother to change the Shutou family, which is so entrenched in its obsession with bloodlines. I mean it.”

With a pained expression, Kouki pleaded.

“And I’m serious about you. I truly want to make you, my ‘soulmate’, happy. Please, believe me.”

“…”

“Make me happy? Is this your intention of charity? Is this noblesse oblige?”

This naïve, head-in-the-clouds mentality is downright harmful at this point.

“Step aside. I’m going back.”

Amane says in a threatening, low voice towards the man blocking his way.

Having accomplished his purpose, he no longer wanted to be in the Alpha’s territory even for a second.

“Didn’t you hear me? Step aside.”

Amane ruthlessly repeats. But Kouki desperately pleads with him.

“How can I make you believe me?”

Ignoring his questioning gaze, Amane commands, “Just get out of the way!” But Kouki doesn’t budge.

Clicking his tongue in frustration at Kouki stubbornly blocking his path, Amane tried to circle around the man standing in his way and slip past him.

That’s when his arm was suddenly grabbed. A tingling electric current ran through from the point of contact.

“…Ugh…”

Shocked, his breath momentarily stopped. As he consciously exhaled, his heart suddenly pounded loudly, and his heartbeat started racing.

“…What the hell are you doing, you idiot!”

He yells, looking at Kouki’s face. The bluish-grey eyes that were just filled with agitation now darkened. Seeing the dark, resolute gaze, he realised this was no ‘accidental’ act. It was a deliberate one.

(Shit!)

Amane’s blood drains from his face.

“Let go!”

He screams, frantically waving his arms in all directions. He slaps his upper body and kicks his legs vigorously. But his struggles are futile, as the restraint doesn’t loosen even a little. He’s painfully aware that he’s no match for the Alpha’s serious strength, and that Kouki has been holding back against him all this time.

“Let go, you idiot!”

As he desperately tries to shake him off, the numbness originating from his grasped arm continues without interruption, and his body temperature keeps rising. Recognizing the familiar ‘signs’, sweat bursts out from his every pore.

Despite feeling the same painful electric current, Kouki shows no sign of wavering. He instead grips Amane’s arm tighter, forcefully pulling him. Without a word, he drags Amane from the terrace back into the crowded hall, and through the corridor.

“Hey! Where are you taking me?!”

*Translator’s Note: I think Honjou-san is afraid to believe in Kariya-kun’s love. And Kariya-kun is frustrated not to be believed in. Haa… It’s so frustrating… -K
