As long as omegas experience monthly heats, they are unable to take on jobs directly related to life and death, such as those in the medical field, firefighting, or law enforcement. They also cannot become executives, decision-makers, or representatives in positions that influence the economy. And needless to say, they can’t become politicians who shape national policy.

Society’s expectation of omegas is to use their beauty to entertain others.

This includes being an actress or actor, model, gravure idol, celebrity, dancer, and even working in the sex industry.

Betas, who are the majority in society, might openly praise an omega’s beauty. But deep down, they still harbour discriminatory feelings against them. This lingering prejudice stems from the time when omegas couldn’t control their pheromones and caused chaos in society before the advent of pills.

Because of this, omegas have a higher chance of becoming victims of crime. The percentage of omega victims in crime statistics is overwhelmingly the highest among the three categories.

This knowledge was what drove Amane to become a police officer. By becoming a detective, he hoped to reduce the number of omegas who, like his mother, faced unjust treatment. He wanted to save as many omegas as possible from crimes fueled by discrimination.

He knew it wouldn’t be easy. Even omegas with a national identification number can’t become police officers, let alone him- a Stray Omega without one.

The police force is a pyramid structure composed of 99% betas, with a 1% alpha elite at the top. And into that organisation, he managed to slip in as the only “hidden omega”.

He was fully aware of how risky this was.

Still, after passing the police examination, enduring the rigorous training at the police academy, and completing the demanding internships, he was finally assigned as a detective to the Downtown East Police Station—commonly known as the D-East Station—where he has now served for seven years.

And all of this was possible only because of Amane’s national identification number.

For Amane’s sake, and for the nun who believed his false story and became his guardian, he absolutely couldn’t afford to have his status as a Stray Omega exposed.

If his true identity were discovered, it wouldn’t just end with a dismissal. He would be tried for the crime of assuming another person’s identity and face a lengthy prison sentence.

From the moment he chose to live as Honjou Amane, his life has always been about walking alongside risk. He knew he couldn’t let himself become part of a group or get too close to others. After becoming a detective, he distanced himself from his colleagues and maintained a lone wolf persona, all while continuing to deliver results.

No one has discovered his true identity—except for one exception, his mentor during his rookie days.

(And until this guy showed up…)

Just as Amane clenched his left hand tightly, there was a tap-tap-tap on the driver’s side window. The face that had just been floating through his mind was right there beyond the glass.

Soft waves of chestnut-brown hair, well-shaped eyebrows of the same colour, distinct double eyelids, a noble nose hinting at good lineage, and sensuous yet refined lips.

“I can’t get enough of that mysterious eye colour of our idol!”

“I know, right?! Are they blue? Or grey?”

“Just being looked at by him feels like I could get pregnant.”

“He’s usually so gentle and kind. But sometimes he gives off that super unapproachable, S-vibe, and it’s amazing!”

“He’s definitely a charmer. Way too skilled at handling women, it’s dangerous.”

“And his body—wow. You can tell how broad his chest is even with a three-piece suit on. It’s insane.”

“Plus, that suit is just so sexy. Whoever invented the three-piece suit is a God.”

“God!”

“And his voice, too!”

“That sweet, deep tone, right?”

“He could be saying something completely work-related, but it still sounds like he’s flirting because of that deep, velvety voice.”

“It’s too much to handle.”

“I just feel grateful for his existence. He brings so much warmth and comfort to our harsh work environment.”

“I get that… He’s a blessing…”

―――This was the conversation I overheard by chance from the women in the break room.

(What’s so blessed about him? Is he a Buddha statue or something?)

As he frowned, feeling the irritation flare up once more, the knock on the window came again. This time, it was more insistent.

Amane clicked his tongue and leaned over to unlock the driver’s side door. With a click, the door opened, and a young man dressed in a fully tailored three-piece suit climbed in. His tall, nine-head-length frame sliding into the seat with the fluidity of a large wild animal. As soon as he settled, he twisted his upper body and turned to face Amane.

“Sorry for being late.”

His tone was apologetic. But his expression was unrepentant as he stared directly at Amane. Just as someone had once described, his eyes, whose colour changed with the lighting, were now a deep grey. When they took on this shade, he looked more mature than his actual age of twenty-three.

“Maybe because it’s lunchtime. But the store was unexpectedly crowded…”

Even this flimsy excuse sounded like a pickup line, thanks to his rich, deep voice.

(… I don’t like him.)

Ever since his assignment to Squad One of the Criminal Investigation Department at the D-East Station two months ago, this man had been monopolising the attention and conversations of all the female staff at the office. His name was Kariya Kouki.

However, Kariya was actually his mother’s surname. His real name was Shutou Kouki.

The reason he went by his mother’s surname was that the Shutou family was among the top five most prominent families within the Alpha ruling class. Their actions were frequently covered by the media, so almost everyone in society was familiar with the name ‘Shutou’.

Typically, if an Alpha joined the police force, they would take the elite track as a career bureaucrat and lead from the front.

But for some reason, Kouki insisted on working as a regular detective, getting his hands dirty at the frontlines. He endured the gruelling six months of police academy training, graduated at the top of his class, and even skipped the usual stint in a uniform to become a detective at a Police Station. There had never been a case of an Alpha working in the hands-on division made up mostly of Betas. Given the expected chaos of handling such a situation, along with Kouki’s own preferences, only a select few within the station knew his real name and category.

These few included the Superintendent, the Chief Inspector, the head of the Criminal Investigation Department or Squad Commander-Onizuka, and his partner – Amane himself.

  1. Sorrow says:

Now I get why this one is longer. Why repeating some facts from 1st part were necessary

  2. Hanti says:

Honjou-san’s age is quite easy to catch. He is 30 (maybe +- a year).
He said his friend died when he was 10, he made knife wound at that time and when looking at it, he said it faded because 20 years had passed 😉

    1. Aahhh…. I missed this details lol
