Taking out his phone, Kouki said, “I’ll contact the local police station now.”
After informing Amane, Kouki called the police division in charge of the Midtown South Area.
“This is Kariya from the Criminal Investigation Department First Squad of the Downtown East Station,” Kouki stated, introducing himself and explaining that he was currently inside an illegal casino operating as a secret club.
“There are about forty patrons inside. To avoid unnecessary panic, please dispatch an unmarked car without sirens. The secret club is located on the top floor of a commercial complex and can only be accessed via a direct elevator. The elevator requires a card key to operate. So contact this number upon arrival.”
Approximately ten minutes later, Kouki received a call from the police. He and Amane used the direct elevator to descend to the first floor.
“Are you okay, Honjou-san?” Kouki asked, concerned about Amane, who was leaning tiredly against the elevator wall.
“I’m fine,” Amane replied curtly, avoiding eye contact. Kouki sensed a palpable ‘don’t approach me’ aura from Amane. Respecting his partner’s feelings—likely a mix of embarrassment and frustration over being seen in such a vulnerable state—Kouki restrained himself from pressing further.
“I’m Detective Kariya from the D-East Station.”
“And I’m Honjou, also from the D-East Station.”
On the first floor, they met up with the investigative team from the local precinct. Over fifty plainclothes detectives and uniformed officers were then transported up to the twelfth floor.
“Alright, let’s move in,” the veteran detective in charge ordered. The iron door was opened. The mass of officers flooded into the narrow, dimly lit corridor.
“Kyaa!”
“It’s a police raid! Run!”
“Don’t push! I’m falling!”
Screams and shouts erupted as chaos ensued, with the officers subduing and arresting the fleeing patrons and staff.
Kouki and Amane followed a group of two detectives and eight officers as they proceeded upstairs. First, they found the man with the cornrows, now conscious and in pain, being escorted away.
Next, they entered the VIP lounge, where three unconscious alpha males were discovered.
“These are habitual offenders who use date rape drugs,” Amane explained. “They would lure targets to these ‘drinking parties’ and drug their alcoholic beverages to sexually assault them.”
The veteran detective in charge grimaced at the details. It seemed he and Amane had worked together before.
“One of the victims was a gravure idol who was raped, got pregnant, and was then killed by the man responsible,” Amane said, gesturing to the unconscious man in black-rimmed glasses.
Expressing his disgust, the detective said he would ensure the suspects were taken to the police hospital. He also requested Amane’s testimony if needed. He offered to be a witness himself.
Kouki then showed the detective the audio recording of a suspect named Kourogi admitting to procuring women for the drug-facilitated rapes in exchange for business favors.
The detective gratefully acknowledged their cooperation, saying it had led to the takedown of a major illegal operation, with several bonus arrests.
However, Amane requested that their involvement be kept confidential, as it would cause them trouble if it became known they had been operating outside their territory.
The veteran detective simply nodded in understanding, ordering his subordinates to transport the injured suspects without further comment.
Kouki and Amane silently watched as the battered alphas were carried away on stretchers.

“We’re here,” Kouki said, rousing Amane from his daze. Looking out the window, Amane saw they had arrived at the apartment complex where he lived.
It was already starting to get bright outside. What an extraordinary couple of days it had been – from the party at the Shutou household to this whirlwind of events. The physical and emotional strain had been intense.
Amane’s case with Aya had reached a resolution, though he never imagined it would escalate into such a major bust. He had been swept up in a dizzying series of ups and downs.
While the takedown of the major illegal operation was ultimately a success, there were certainly missteps along the way.
If Kouki hadn’t come to his rescue, Amane might not have made it out of that red and black room alive.
(That’s right…I’m alive and here because of him.)
Amane glanced at Kouki in the driver’s seat, their eyes meeting.
Gazing into Kouki’s intense eyes, Amane was reminded of the moment just before Kouki had entered the room – when Amane had been cornered by the heat and the three alphas, facing the prospect of death.
At that time, the image that had appeared in his mind’s eye was the man sitting before him now.
Kouki was a special existence to Amane, the irreplaceable other half of his soul.
(The only one...)
Realising this anew, Amane’s heart began to race. A tingling sensation crept up the back of his neck and a restlessness stirred in his lower body.
Unable to maintain eye contact, Amane unfastened his seatbelt and reached for the door handle.
“Good work,” Kouki said from behind him.
“…Will you come up?” Amane asked, turning back.
Kouki looked surprised. But quickly schooled his expression. “Yes,” he nodded.
“But Honjou-san, you must be tired. So you should rest,” Kouki said. His polite demeanour irked Amane.
“It’s morning already. It’s not like I’d be able to sleep properly now anyway,” Amane retorted.
“Even a short rest would help you recover your strength,” Kouki tried.
Unwilling to admit any weakness, Amane insisted, “I’m not tired at all. Come on, I’ll make you some coffee.”
“Are you sure it’s alright?” Kouki asked tentatively.
“Quit stalling and get out of the car,” Amane ordered.
Finally, Kouki unfastened his seatbelt and followed Amane up to the third floor of the apartment building.
“Pardon the intrusion,” Kouki murmured as he stepped inside.
Amane turned on the lights in the dim room, shrugging off his jacket and draping it over a chair. “Make yourself at home,” he said.
Kouki obediently sat down on the leather sofa as Amane went to the kitchen. Rolling up his shirt sleeves, Amane filled the drip pot with mineral water and set it to boil. While the water heated, he took the ground coffee from the freezer, carefully measuring out two cups’ worth into the filter.
Once the water had reached the right temperature, Amane slowly poured it over the grounds, allowing the rich, fragrant brew to drip into the mugs. The aroma made him crave a cigarette.
“Here you go,” Amane said, bringing the two steaming cups to the coffee table.
“Thank you. This smells wonderful,” Kouki remarked, inhaling the scent.
Sitting down next to Kouki, Amane took a drag from his cigarette. “I only do this occasionally,” he replied.
“I have a special blend from a specialty shop stored in the freezer for when I get a craving for it. Freezing it prevents the flavour from deteriorating.”
“…It’s very delicious.”
