If being an Omega meant being discarded as worthless, then that was all he had ever amounted to.
There was no reason for someone like him to keep living.
Even if he managed to survive, his life would never be anything worthwhile. All he would do was burden everyone around him.
Rather than living in shame as an Omega from now on—
“…I should die…”
He should end this life, right now.
He had already lost everything, had it all taken away from him. But at the very least, he could choose how it would all end.
He could bring down the final curtain on his life himself—that was the only freedom left to him.
The moment he realised that, he felt strangely calm.
He thought of several ways he could vanish from this world. But in his drunken state, the preparation for any of them seemed tedious. The quickest way would be to jump. But his room was on the second floor. That wasn’t high enough. The rooftop, however, would be enough to do it for sure.
“I have to go…”
Crawling to the entrance, Kazusa left the room without even putting on shoes, and, using the wall for support, walked unsteadily down the hallway. Somehow, he made it to the elevator hall, stumbled into it, and leaned against the wall as it ascended to the top floor of the seven-story dormitory. He could smell the overpowering stench of alcohol on his breath, enough to make him nauseous. When the elevator reached the seventh floor, he wobbled out. From here, he had to climb the stairs to the rooftop.
“Haa… haa…”
Taking more than three times his usual effort, he managed to climb the stairs to the tower and opened the door to the rooftop. His vision expanded all at once. He staggered to the centre of the roof and looked up at the night sky. The bright, round moon appeared blurry. And for the first time, he realised he wasn’t wearing his glasses. He also noticed he was only in his socks.
But none of that mattered anymore. He was going to die soon anyway.
His legs felt weak. His body swayed with the gusts of night wind. Despite wearing only a thin shirt, lightweight bottoms, and socks, he didn’t feel the cold.
He staggered toward the fence that surrounded the rooftop. When he reached the fence, about 1.8 metres tall, he gazed out over the Downtown East District.
A landscape painted in gaudy neon colours, a cluttered, sleazy slum, and the red-light district teeming with desire—none of it could be called beautiful.
The blurry view of downtown, distorted by his poor eyesight, was somehow fitting as the last thing he would ever see.
A life of nothing but studying and working. He never knew love, never felt the warmth of another’s touch. And he’s still a virgin…
Just once, he wanted to fall in love with someone, to love them wholeheartedly. But even when he met a woman he liked, he never had the courage to take the first step. Too afraid of being rejected, he hid behind his studies and work as an excuse. Now, he wished he’d had the guts to go for it, even if it ended in failure. But it was too late for regrets now. After all, it was the life he had chosen.
“…Alright.” Fearing that he might lose his resolve if he hesitated any longer, Kazusa spoke aloud to steel his nerves.
To jump, he first had to climb over the fence in front of him. With that thought, Kazusa grabbed the top of the fence with both hands and placed the tip of his sock-covered foot into one of the holes in the mesh. He mustered all his remaining strength and began to hoist himself up.
“…Ugh… ngh…”
His upper body swayed, unstable from the alcohol, and his palms and feet hurt as the metal dug into them. But somehow, he managed to clamber onto the top of the fence.
As his gaze dropped from the ink-black sky to the ground below, the asphalt parking lot and his coworkers’ cars came into view. Though blurred by his naked eyes, their small size was enough for him to grasp the height of his current position.
(It’s… so high…)
A sudden surge of fear gripped him.
Jump from here…?
The mere thought of his body smashing into the concrete below made his neck tingle and his heart race. His limbs began to tremble.
Could he really do this, when he was such a coward?
(Don’t chicken out now, you idiot!)
Kazusa scolded himself.
If he closed his eyes and dived, it would all be over in an instant. There would be no pain. All he needed was the courage to take that step. After that, gravity would take care of the rest. And within seconds, his miserable, unfair life would be over.
Just a moment. Just one moment and it would all be over.
(Do it! Just do it!)
He urged himself on, lifting one leg over the top of the fence. He gritted his teeth and started to lean his body toward the other side. Just then, he heard a rapid ‘thud thud thud’ sound coming from behind him.
(Is someone… coming?)
“…!”
His body, which had been ready to jump, froze at the sound.
(Is someone… here?)
The sound of someone running up the stairs grew louder and closer until finally, the door to the rooftop flung open with a bang.
Reflexively, Kazusa turned to look. And there, standing in his view, was a tall man dressed in black. The man, who had rushed out of the tower, stopped in his tracks when he saw Kazusa frozen atop the fence.
The tall figure stood motionless, yet a tense aura quickly enveloped him.
Kazusa, on the other hand, was captivated by the man’s appearance.
Even from a distance, Kazusa recognized the man’s exotic features. His face was unforgettable—one of those stunning looks that stays imprinted in your memory after just one encounter.
Could this man be the mismatch-eyed guy from his dream that morning?
Then… that wasn’t a dream? Was the part where he almost kissed him real?
No, no, that couldn’t possibly be the case.
As Kazusa was consumed by confusion, the man, still staring directly at him, finally spoke.
“Don’t move.”
Despite the calm and composed tone, it was as if Kazusa had been put under a spell—he couldn’t move a muscle.
“I’m coming over there. Don’t move until I get to you.”
This time, his voice was firm. It was commanding, leaving no room for argument. The man started walking towards him.
