In the span of about a day, his life, which had been calm for thirty years, had been bombarded with one event after another. It was no wonder his brain couldn’t keep up with it all.
(What am I supposed to do now?)
When he had come up to the rooftop, it was with the intent to end his life. Yet, through some twist of fate, he had instead experienced something entirely opposite to death—he had tasted the pleasure of life, of sex. And his partner was a man whose name he didn’t even know.
Whether it was because the raw, physical clash of sex had drained him of his resolve, or because he had released all the pent-up semen inside him, Kazusa realized that the suicidal thoughts that had gripped him so tightly before had now disappeared. It was as if some spirit had been exorcised.
So, he wasn’t going to die. But now, what should he do next?
As he pondered, Kazusa slowly sat up. The man, who had been watching him from across the concrete floor, spoke.
“I’m Zero.”
At first, Kazusa didn’t realise that this was the man’s name.
“Zero…?”
“And you? I know your last name. But tell me your first.”
It was only then that Kazusa realised the man had just introduced himself. ‘Zero’ was a strange name. But maybe, like the others in his life, it was just a nickname.
“I’m Kazusa. Toomine Kazusa.”
After everything they had done together, introducing themselves now seemed absurdly out of order. But there was nothing to be done about it.
“Toomine Kazusa, huh.”
Zero repeated his name slowly, as if savouring the sound. He then asked, “That was your first time, wasn’t it?”
Realising that Zero was asking about his sexual experience, Kazusa nodded uncomfortably.
Talking to the man he had just been entangling with like an animal was awkward, to say the least. Kazusa felt an overwhelming sense of shame rise up, and he instinctively looked away. How did people usually handle these awkward conversations?
Zero, however, didn’t seem to find post-sex conversation awkward or embarrassing at all. Maybe that was the difference in their levels of experience.
“I figured as much,” Zero nodded. Then, with a serious expression, he apologised. “I’m sorry.”
“I got caught up in your Omega pheromones. I realised halfway through that you were inexperienced. But… I couldn’t stop myself.”
Unbeknownst to Kazusa, it seemed he had been releasing an enormous amount of Omega pheromones, strong enough that even someone as skilled and experienced as Zero—who had likely mastered the art of sex, judging by how easily Kazusa had climaxed multiple times—couldn’t resist.
(Oh, I see.)
―――Your heat ‘activated’ probably because of me.
Upon hearing that, Kazusa had lashed out in anger, yelling, “It’s your fault!”
But when he considered Zero’s perspective, he realised that for Zero, this had been like an unavoidable accident.
While it was true that Kazusa had turned into an Omega due to his contact with Zero, that didn’t mean it was Zero’s fault.
Moreover, given how incredibly attractive Zero was, he was surely extremely popular. Zero probably hadn’t wanted to sleep with someone like Kazusa, who wasn’t only male but also not young.
(I dragged him into my heat…)
Reflecting on his behaviour so far, Kazusa felt a deep sense of guilt and adjusted his posture. As he shifted into a proper seated position, he became aware of the sensation of something wet trickling down his legs—he realised with a shock that what Zero had left inside him was dripping out. His feet were getting wet. But he pretended not to notice, trying to maintain his composure.
“I should be the one apologising,” Kazusa said, bowing his head.
Zero looked momentarily taken aback by Kazusa’s unexpected apology.
“No… there’s no need for you to apologise. Last night, after living as a Beta all this time, your heat was triggered because of our contact.”
That was true. Both times his heat had been triggered, it had happened right after contact with Zero.
“I’m not sure why it happens. But there seems to be some sort of… connection between us. A kind of fateful bond, perhaps.”
“A… bond?” Kazusa echoed, unsure how to feel about that.
He and Zero were completely different people, and there didn’t seem to be any obvious common ground between them. Personally, Kazusa wasn’t too fond of Zero. So the idea of having some deep connection with him was unsettling.
“At any rate,” Zero continued, “now that things have come to this, you’ll have to live as an Omega.”
Kazusa agreed with Zero’s conclusion.
The man he had been as a Beta doctor had died the moment he stood on that rooftop and contemplated suicide. He would accept that.
The only path left for him now was to be reborn as an Omega and live a second life.
“As you know, being an Omega comes with many restrictions—monthly heat cycles, the need to take pills, and so on. Since you’re a man, the changes to your reproductive system will be especially significant. Life will be very different from what you’re used to, and there will be many challenges.”
Kazusa nodded. He had just experienced firsthand how uncontrollable a heat could be, how it made common sense and rules completely irrelevant. A thought suddenly crossed his mind.
(What category does Zero fall into?)
Given his stunning appearance, it wasn’t impossible that Zero could be an Omega himself. He had mentioned that there were many Omegas around him. And even Serval, who was brought by Zero to the hospital, was a Stray Omega.
Then again, Zero had a certain aura about him. So maybe he was an Alpha.
Kazusa had never encountered Alphas in his rural hometown. He had seen a few here and there after moving to Central for university. But he had never spoken to one. There weren’t any at his workplace or among his patients (since Alphas generally went to Alpha-specialised hospitals). He had once attended a lecture at an orthopaedics conference given by a super-elite Alpha doctor. But he had never had direct contact with Alphas. So he didn’t really understand what they were like.
