The fact that Zero said ‘we’ implied that there were multiple Stray Omegas involved.

“As you might know, most Stray Omegas are born into brothels, where their omega nature is exploited for profit. Many never see the world beyond the red-light district before they die. The harsh living and working conditions often lead to premature deaths. For them, the world has been hostile from the moment they were born.”

“…”

Kazusa, having treated a few Stray Omegas himself, deeply understood this reality.

“This building is home to Stray Omegas with nowhere else to go. Their circumstances vary. Some escaped after disputes with their brothel owners, others fled abusive clients or stalkers. Some are single mothers with children and nowhere to turn. Each has a different reason for ending up at ‘RARE.’ Some came after hearing rumours, others were brought here by current residents. And in some cases, I personally invited them. Like I did with you.”

Kazusa nodded, acknowledging that truth.

“The second through seventh floors of this building are residential spaces. The second and seventh floors have two units each, while the third through sixth floors have three units each, for a total of sixteen rooms. Most are single rooms. But for those with children, we have larger family-type units. The number of residents fluctuates depending on the time. But right now there are fourteen people, including myself. One of them is a child. With you moving in today, that brings the total to fifteen. The first floor is a shared space for the residents. It includes a large kitchen in the community area and a gym for personal training.”

So, the black door Kazusa had noticed next to the elevator led to those shared spaces.

“Most of the residents at ‘RARE’ work as cast members in the underground lounge and earn their income there. By the way, the lounge is members-only and by reservation only—no sexual services are offered. Any other questions?” Zero prompted, glancing at Kazusa.

Kazusa tried to process all the information and carefully summarised it. “So… basically… this place is a shelter for Stray Omegas?”

A shelter—typically a facility that protects victims from domestic violence, abuse, or stalkers. There were state-run shelters, but private ones existed as well.

“It’s both a shelter and a community to support Stray Omegas in becoming self-sufficient. I originally built ‘RARE’ as a temporary refuge. But some people find it so comfortable that they end up staying longer. For example, Serval, whose wounds you treated, has been living here for almost two years. Hawk, who helped you move, is the oldest and my right-hand man, who helped me establish ‘RARE.’”

Kazusa couldn’t help but ask the question that surfaced naturally in his mind. “Why go to such lengths to support them?”

The words just slipped out. He hesitated before voicing another question. “Could it be that… you’re a Stray Omega too?”

For a brief moment, Zero looked surprised. But then he shook his head. “No… But I had an omega in my family. That gave me some insight into how difficult life can be for them, though I know I can never fully understand it. Anyone who isn’t directly involved claiming they ‘understand’ would be arrogant,” Zero said in a low, introspective voice with his eyebrows furrowed.

“…”

Kazusa remained silent.

“It wasn’t until I started living in Downtown and interacting directly with Stray Omegas that I truly grasped their struggles. Before that, I only had academic knowledge from books mentioning that ‘a small number of people don’t have national IDs.’ I thought I understood, but it was all superficial.”

Watching the anguish momentarily shadow Zero’s beautiful face, Kazusa felt a tightening in his chest.

(I’m the same.)

As a doctor, Kazusa had always wanted to do his best to help those who couldn’t access regular healthcare. But looking back now, he realised that his empathy had been somewhat shallow. It wasn’t until he became an omega himself—though just an ordinary one—that he could truly comprehend their hardships.

“After learning about the harsh realities faced by Stray Omegas and how they fall through the cracks of the country’s safety nets, I wondered what I could do for them.”

“So you thought about it… and then created this place?”

“Exactly.”

Zero had acted on the principle of, if the government won’t do it, I will. He bought a building, provided housing and jobs, and supported the independence of Stray Omegas. It was one thing to talk about such actions, but actually doing them was another level entirely—and at such a young age.

(…He’s amazing.)

Zero wasn’t the frivolous ‘King of the Night’ Kazusa had imagined. He felt ashamed of his previous assumptions. Behind that dazzling appearance lay a man driven by a powerful sense of purpose. That same resolve must have driven Zero to help Kazusa when he learned about his troubles, unwilling to turn a blind eye.

Kazusa was left speechless, standing in awe of the stark contrast between his own shallow view of the world and Zero’s depth of character.

“Back to the point—since this place serves that purpose, I don’t charge any rent from the residents at ‘RARE.’ And that’s why you won’t be paying either.”

“You don’t charge rent from anyone?”

“I want them to save money quickly and become independent. So, that’s the end of this discussion.”

It was clear that Zero wasn’t willing to waste more time on the topic.

“More importantly…”

“More importantly?” Kazusa echoed.

Suddenly aware that Zero was now standing right next to him, Kazusa’s shoulders twitched in surprise.

Before he could instinctively step back, Zero grabbed his upper arm.

“Ah!” Kazusa yelped, jumping slightly. A jolt ran through his body from where Zero touched him.

(That… again!)

“Stop…!” Kazusa tried to protest. But before he could shake off Zero’s hand, Zero released him.

“What are you doing?!” Kazusa yelped, massaging his still-tingling upper arm while backing away from Zero. His heart raced wildly and sweat poured from his body.

Zero, however, frowned slightly as he stared at his palm. After a moment, he slowly clenched his hand into a fist. “…So, it’s just as I thought.”

Kazusa, still on edge, snapped back, “What do you mean, ‘just as you thought?!’”

Zero calmly replied, “When we touch, it triggers your heat.”

Kazusa gasped. The pounding heartbeat, the profuse sweating, the rapid pulse, the heat radiating from his face—it all matched the symptoms of the two previous heats he had experienced.

“But… I’m on suppressants,” Kazusa stammered.

*Translator’s Note: Well, we all have seen how difficult life can be for Stray Omegas as seen in volume 1 and 2… Toomine-sensei, if you can’t see yet that this guy is thirsty for you, I don’t know what else to say. *sighs* -K
