It was past 3 AM when Kazusa left Zero’s room.

After returning to room 601, he slowly soaked in the bathtub, loosened up his entire body with some light stretching after his bath, massaged his stiff muscles, and went to bed. Perhaps because he took care of himself, he was able to sleep soundly for the first time in a long while, and when he woke up, it was almost noon.

(Huh? It’s already midday?)

He panicked when he saw the time. But thanks to the long sleep, his body felt light. Thinking back, during his training period, he hadn’t been able to release the tension in his mind and body. So, even though he was getting enough sleep, the fatigue never went away. Compared to that, this morning, he felt completely refreshed. It was as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

It was partly due to his mental and physical relaxation. But it was also possible that his heat period had ended.

It had been a week since it started, so there was a high possibility of that.

He wasn’t yet able to fully sense when the heat was starting or ending. But perhaps with more experience, he’d be able to grasp those sensations more clearly. However, for now, as a beginner, it was better to play it safe, so he took one dose of a suppressant just to be sure.

(Still…)

Looking back after a night’s rest, the time he spent with Zero last night felt like a dream.

There had been no physical contact at all, yet it was an intense moment. It felt as though the distance between their hearts had closed just a little…

―――Your thirty years of experience, your logical mindset as a doctor, your diligent nature that doesn’t cut corners, your sincerity in treating everyone equally… those are your strengths, things the other cast members don’t have.

Kazusa savoured Zero’s words again.

―――For example, when people are in front of you, they feel compelled to reveal their vulnerabilities—like I did earlier.

Perhaps revealing some of his personal life was also Zero’s way of comforting him, who had lost confidence and was feeling down.

Thanks to that, Kazusa now felt more motivated to continue as a cast member for a little while longer.

As expected of the leader. He had keen insight into the actions of his pack members. In just a short time, he had come to understand Kazusa’s personality and traits, offering precise advice that boosted his motivation.

(He probably chose the herbal tea with relaxation in mind, too.)

Impressed once again by Zero’s abilities as a leader, Kazusa finished his lunch of toast, salad, and tea.

It was already 1:30. There were three and a half hours until the lounge setup began at 5.

(Alright, let’s go shopping.)

Dinner was provided at night, and he was told that he could use the ingredients in the first-floor kitchen as much as he wanted. In fact, the raw vegetables in the salad he just ate and the bread came from the kitchen. But when it came to yoghurt and milk, he wanted to keep his favourite brand stocked in the fridge.

(Oh, and I should buy some gym clothes and shoes as well.)

Kazusa changed into his usual clothes: a white shirt, a hoodie jacket, and chino bottoms. He grabbed his smartphone, wallet, security card, and keys, tossed them into a fabric tote bag, and put on his sneakers.

As he was locking the door to his room, he heard the sound of a door unlocking behind him.

(Is someone coming out?)

It was his fourth day since moving in. But it was the first time he had encountered another resident on the same floor.

Room 603 belonged to Crow, whose signature look was an all-black hoodie and black-rimmed glasses.

Room 602 housed Lycaon, whom Serval had warned him as a ‘person to watch out for’.

Kazusa had run into Crow a few times during shifts at the lounge—he was rumoured to be extremely quiet, and indeed they had never spoken. As for Lycaon, who was currently under suspension, Kazusa naturally hadn’t met him.

(Crow or Lycaon… which one is it?)

If it was Lycaon, judging from Serval’s list, it seemed like he wouldn’t be an easy character to deal with.

The sound of a door creaking open. Then a soft thud as it closed.

Kazusa sensed a presence behind him and glanced back from the corner of his eye to see what was happening.

A person stood in front of the door to room 602, locking it. From the person’s profile, he saw that he was looking down, so Kazusa couldn’t see his face clearly. But his body was slender, and he was about the same height as himself. He had multiple piercings in the cartilage of his ear. He wore a black-and-white striped top with tight black distressed denim, and on his feet were black lace-up boots.

His hair, a bluish-silver, was cut in what is commonly known as a two-block style. On the back of his neck, which was as white as snow, there was a tattoo of a snarling coyote with bared fangs.

It’s Lycaon.

Just as Kazusa confirmed this, Lycaon seemed to sense his gaze and turned to face him. Their eyes met—light grey eyes with faint pigmentation, framed by silver eyelashes matching his hair.

(What a beauty!)

Kazusa thought he had become desensitised to the attractiveness of Zero and the other residents, but Lycaon’s striking beauty left him wide-eyed in awe.

As Kazusa stared in a daze, while Lycaon’s grey eyes suddenly glinted with a dangerous light. A husky voice, far rougher than his good looks would suggest, growled menacingly.

“What the hell are you looking at, you…”

Startled by the sudden threat, Kazusa flinched and quickly turned to face Lycaon.

“I-I apologise for the late introduction. I’m Toomine from room 601. I moved in a week ago. Nice to meet you.”

“………..”

But Lycaon didn’t return the greeting. Instead, he furrowed his brow, crossed his arms, and leaned slightly to one side. It was a pose typical of a delinquent.

*Translator’s Note: I don’t like this guy. Meet Lycaon, our antagonist of some sort, for now. And pardon me for any mistakes. I have no time to proofread the chapters. -K
