……………………………………..
Chu Ci adjusted his tousled hair, slipped into his slippers, and got out of bed.
He was actually feeling much better—medical staff were overreacting, insisting on pushing him around in a wheelchair.
Chu Ci opened the door, glanced around; the attending physician wasn’t there, and no one would comment on a male zerg getting out of bed. He stepped confidently into the hallway, stopping a random unfamiliar medical staff member.
“Excuse me, could you please tell me how to get to B017 examination room?”
The staff member, assuming it was a female zerg who was lost, didn’t even look up, casually pointing towards the left.
“Left, up to the fifth floor, then inside at the last room.”
Chu Ci nodded, “Thank you.”
He walked away a distance before the staff member suddenly looked up, realizing something.
—Oh my god, no markings, that polite gentleman must be a male zerg.
At the end of the fifth-floor corridor, Chu Ci knocked on the observation window.
“Is this the place?”
The examination room was a sterile ward, and Chu Ci hadn’t changed into a sterile gown, so he couldn’t go inside.
The doctor immediately noticed Chu Ci outside the window. They hadn’t expected the male zerg to come, and hurried over to the intercom.
“Your Excellency, your female is refusing to accept the examination.”
He was visibly angry: “And he insists on seeing you. I repeatedly told him not to disturb your rest, but he still insisted, which is why I sent you the message.”
The same message can be delivered in different ways for varying effects—like now, he could say ‘Your female is feeling uneasy and wishes to confirm with you before the examination,’ or he could say ‘He refuses to accept the examination, insisting on disturbing you.’
Nuo Wei wasn’t an unreasonable female; quite the opposite, his emotions were repressed, his endurance remarkably strong—even the whipping in the correctional facility didn’t reveal any different expression from this cold, composed female.
Chu Ci looked through the glass, towards his silent female: “Nuo Wei?”
The doctor, with a receding hairline, stood directly in front of the glass, while Nuo Wei stood at an angle, his head bowed. From Chu Ci’s perspective, all he could see was a small part of Nuo Wei’s pale neck.
Nuo Wei looked quite unwell.
Chu Ci pressed the intercom: “Why do you not wish to accept the examination?”
Nuo Wei lifted his head, attempting a weak smile, but it wasn’t a common expression for him—eventually, he just gave a feeble nod. In a quiet voice, he asked, “My Lord, all the items here were selected by you, correct?”
Chu Ci was confused: “Yes.”
Of course, only a male zerg could select items for a female’s examination.
Nuo Wei’s face lost the last bit of color.
He pressed his lips together, recalling the regulations in the Female Monarch Manual that stated females must not display acts of defiance, like biting their lip, in front of males. So he forced a weak smile: “Okay, I understand.”
He obediently unzipped the back of his shirt, revealing the wing sac.
“Wait,” Chu Ci spoke up, interrupting him. “What do you understand?”
How could he understand anything?
Nuo Wei quickly regained his usual cold expression, as if he didn’t care about what was to come. In a steady voice, he replied, “I understand this surgery is indeed your requirement, my Lord. I will comply.”
Chu Ci was taken aback: “What?”
Who was having surgery? Nuo Wei?
But wasn’t his female’s injury just on his back, a simple application of medicine would suffice? How did they jump straight to surgery?
Chu Ci’s suspicious gaze swept over the examination room, finally settling on the large apparatus in the center of the room.
He may be a male zerg, but he recognized what this was—a device used to forcibly spread a female’s wings. Some days ago, the Empire executed some females who had committed treason in the center of the public square, using a similar contraption.
Chu Ci seemed to understand what Nuo Wei was thinking.
“Wait, don’t move yet, Nuo Wei. Come here,” he motioned to the female, waiting for Nuo Wei to approach the glass. Chu Ci looked up, meeting the female’s dim, pale blue eyes, which flinched away, unable to meet his gaze.
Chu Ci pressed the device against the glass, pulling up the treatment sheet for the female to see.
“Nuo Wei, this is your treatment sheet.”
It was just a list of ordinary check-up items, no surgeries.
Nuo Wei didn’t understand the meaning behind what the male was doing, but he obediently looked at the treatment sheet.
In his heart, a faint voice whispered:
…Please, select the anesthesia.
Of course, there was no anesthesia.
Nuo Wei closed his eyes, as if falling into an endless nightmare.
Why bring him out from the correctional facility then?
It was the same outcome regardless.
Seeing Nuo Wei’s increasingly distressed state, Chu Ci raised his hand to knock twice on the glass, trying to comfort the troubled female:
“Nuo Wei, don’t be afraid. Just look. It’s all checks, no surgery. I didn’t select surgery. You don’t need to do anything.”
Not need to do any surgery?
The sound of knocking roused Nuo Wei, making him dazedly lift his eyes and look at the treatment sheet as instructed.
As Chu Ci said, it was all clean, just checks, no surgeries.
The only thing related to the wings was the regular functional checks of the wing sacs and wings— that support frame was only used for this.
The balding doctor then realized that the female wasn’t causing trouble for the male; rather, he had misunderstood the ordinary checks as a removal surgery. He adjusted his glasses and said:
“Nuo Wei, a wing removal is a serious surgery. It would also require the male’s presence to confirm and sign. Besides, we are a hospital; we wouldn’t casually perform such surgeries.”
He added, “And if you were to suffer pain, the correctional facility would be the appropriate place. We doctors can’t do such things.”
Nuo Wei pursed his lips, taking a step back, kneeling in front of the glass: “I’m sorry, my Lord, I misunderstood you. Please punish me.”
His voice, as usual, was steady and calm. If not for the redness of his neck, it would be almost impossible to tell just how embarrassed this usually composed female was.
…Misunderstanding a regular check-up for a removal surgery, insisting the male come, how could he be so foolish?
Chu Ci yawned: “Alright, the misunderstanding is cleared up. Punishment can wait for another time. Just be a good boy and do the check-ups, then come back to me.”
The female’s ears even turned red.
What do you mean, just lie down and do the check-ups? Like I’m a spoiled brat who refuses to cooperate.
The doctor put down the syringe: “Alright, General, you’ve seen your male, you’ve confirmed it’s his order too. Now, just undress and lie down on the table.”
Almost like a spoiled brat now.
Nuo Wei: “…Mm.”
One of the youngest generals in the Empire, the famously cold and detached Nuo Wei, now on the treatment bed, not knowing where to put his awkward limbs.
Chu Ci, having calmed Nuo Wei down, was ready to head back to his room and continue playing his space war game.
Despite being a weakling in this life as a zerg, Chu Ci has a competitive nature from his human past, aiming to beat games to the end. Once he starts, he won’t quit until he’s achieved the highest score. This space war game, with its outdated rules and old-fashioned graphics, still entices Chu Ci to aim for a high score.
The game takes a little time to load; he had just laid down on the bed when the progress bar was halfway done, two figures suddenly appeared in the room.
Both were muscular females in military uniforms, towering like small mountains, their presence overshadowing Chu Ci as if they were about to drag him off the bed and beat him up at any moment.
Chu Ci: “…?”
In this life as a zerg, Chu Ci has done too many despicable things. In human society, he’d be beaten to the point of not being able to fend for himself. He tried to recall who he might have offended recently; it seemed the person he had offended the most was Nuo Wei. But his female was obediently staying in the examination room—other than that, there weren’t many others.
Chu Ci’s fingers brushed the bed’s bell, ready to press it if needed. He watched the two fierce females warily: “Who are you?”
Before he could finish speaking, both females deeply bowed, bending at a 90-degree angle to Chu Ci.
Chu Ci stepped aside: “No need for that, get up.”
According to human tradition, people generally only bow this way to a coffin.
The military female straightened her body: “Greetings, Mr. Chu Ci. We are the aides to Major Nuo Wei. I am Yi Ta.” She pointed to her companion. “This is Yi Si.”
Chu Ci nodded: “So you’re here to find Nuo Wei?” He had just freed Nuo Wei from the correctional facility; the military news was quick.
He moved his fingers away from the bell, pointing towards the door: “Nuo Wei is still undergoing his check-up. You may have to wait.”
The two females exchanged a look, both seeing the weight in each other’s eyes.
How heavily was he injured for such a strong military female to need this kind of examination?
“No, we are not here to see the General,” Yi Ta handed over an invitation: “We are sorry for the harm caused by the General’s neglect. Since he is serving in the military, his matters are also the military’s concerns. We would like to offer you compensation. Admiral Erwen wishes to invite you for a discussion regarding compensation. Would you be available tomorrow?”
Admiral Erwen is the highest officer in the First Army, Chu Ci thought for a moment. By seniority, Nuo Wei should call him “Uncle.” Nuo Wei was born into nobility, but unfortunately, his father died early. During Nuo Wei’s youth, Admiral Erwen served as his guardian, but the busy schedule and military rank of this admiral meant there wasn’t much extra care given to Nuo Wei.
Perhaps it was this lack of parental attention that contributed to Nuo Wei’s introverted, cold demeanor.
“Yes,” Chu Ci nodded. “Is it just an invitation for me?”
Yi Si hesitated for a moment. “If you’re willing to bring Nuo Wei along…”
Admiral Erwen wasn’t interested in the invitation itself; he wanted to see Nuo Wei. He urgently needed to check on his nephew’s condition and confirm if Nuo Wei had suffered any irreparable harm.
Chu Ci nodded again. “Alright, I’ll bring him along.”
The invitation had already been delivered, and the military officials had no reason to disturb the male zerg’s rest. They bowed once more and withdrew, pulling the door closed behind them.
Inside the hospital room, the male zerg was engaged in a space war, while outside the door, the female zergs sat side by side on the hospital chairs, anxiously looking down the hallway.
What kind of examination is their General undergoing?
Would Lord Chu Ci be willing to sign on the General’s treatment forms?
If the General’s injuries require a lot of money, would Lord Chu Ci agree to the treatment?
Waiting a long time, Yi Si whispered: “Do you think the Major General will be wheeled back or brought back on a bed?”
Nuo Wei was walking back on his own.
He had changed into a shirt, with a light gold military coat draped over his arm, and his silver hair tied back, coming down the hallway. Seeing the aides hesitating, he nodded slightly: “You’re here?”
He was still the same, with an indifferent expression, as if everything was beneath his notice—the Major General, Nuo Wei.
Yi Si eagerly stepped forward: “Major General, it’s great to see you, you’re not dead, uh uh uh!”
Yi Ta put a hand over his mouth, whispering in warning: “Lord Chu Ci is still inside lying down, don’t speak nonsense.”
The hospital’s poor sound insulation couldn’t afford to add any more trouble to the Major General.
Yi Ta gave a military salute towards Nuo Wei: “General, while you were gone, Major Lin En temporarily took over your position…”
He quietly filled Nuo Wei in on recent events, and Nuo Wei nodded: “Okay, I understand.”
He looked towards the aides: “You can go back, I can’t be lingering in the hallway for too long.”
His main task now is to take care of Lord Chu Ci, the hospital logged the time when the male was out of the examination room. If he lingered too long in the hallway and was noticed by Lord Chu Ci, he might mistakenly think that Nuo Wei was avoiding punishment, leading to unbearable torment.
Nuo Wei pushed open the door of the hospital bed, then closed it again behind him, cutting off the aides’ view. Only then did he kneel down at the doorway.
He bowed his head: “My Lord.”
Chu Ci was intensely playing a game when he suddenly heard someone speaking. His hand jerked, and the light brain slipped with a clatter from the edge of the bed.
Nuo Wei lowered his gaze, and the screen was paused on the settlement interface.
