Chapter 22: Got Married
After finishing her shower, Shen Zhuying applied a face mask while scrolling through her Moments feed.
Halfway through, she came across a post.
[Got married.]
It was accompanied by a picture of two hands clasped together.
Probably just another college classmate showing off their love.
Shen Zhuying quickly swiped past, pretending she hadn’t seen it.
After browsing a little longer, she exited Moments and was just about to peel off her mask when Huang Yixuan suddenly sent her a flurry of messages.
[Huang Yixuan]: !!! Oh my god!! Shen Zhuzhu!!
[Huang Yixuan]: Do you still remember Fu Sizhuo, our high school heartthrob?
Shen Zhuying bit into a grape.
[Muzi Manying]: Of course I remember, what about him?
[Huang Yixuan]: He actually got married!
The grape in Shen Zhuying’s mouth nearly popped out.
[Muzi Manying]: Where did you get that rumor?! How could it be so accurate!
[Huang Yixuan]: What rumor! Fu Sizhuo himself posted it on his Moments!
[Huang Yixuan]: [image]
Huang Yixuan sent her a picture, covered in several layers of watermarks.
Shen Zhuying opened it, her brain turning in slow motion.
!!!
She was so shocked she coughed twice, then hurriedly clicked into Fu Sizhuo’s Moments.
[Got married. [photo]]
It was a photo of her and Fu Sizhuo wearing wedding rings, holding hands. Only, unlike the one she had taken, Fu Sizhuo had captured the exact moment she raised her phone to snap the shot. Her full face wasn’t shown, just the silhouette of her profile.
This was Fu Sizhuo’s very first Moments post in seven years.
[Grandma]: You brat, why are you only posting now. [🌹][🌹]
[Qi Zhou]: Yo, who’s risen from the dead?
[Zhou Li]: Brother Fu, are you really this in love?
[Senior0715]: Congratulations on the wedding!
[Chen Qingqing]: !!! You bastard!
Some of their mutual friends, who were also their classmates back in Jingbei High, were refreshing the comments with “Happy wedding,” though there were also people asking who it was.
Fu Sizhuo only replied to Zhou Yu’s comment.
[Classmate A] replied to [Senior0715]: Thanks.
Shen Zhuying remembered the man’s half-joking, half-serious words at the time: “Who said I wouldn’t post?”
He really did post.
Shen Zhuying rubbed her face that had stiffened from smiling, then rolled excitedly across the bed several times.
Just then, Huang Yixuan was sending more messages.
[Huang Yixuan]: Our grade’s group chat and the school forum are blowing up now! Everyone’s guessing who Fu Sizhuo’s wife is.
[Huang Yixuan]: A lot of people are saying it’s his childhood sweetheart—that his ‘white moonlight’ came back from abroad, and Fu Sizhuo was afraid she’d run away, so he married her in a flash.
[Huang Yixuan]: Straight out of a romance novel hahahahaha.
Shen Zhuying stared at those four words ‘childhood sweetheart’ and sulkily pouted her lips.
She tapped on the keyboard clack-clack and sent it out.
[Muzi Manying]: It’s not some childhood sweetheart. It’s me.
[Huang Yixuan]: Huh???
[Muzi Manying]: The one who married Fu Sizhuo, it’s me.
After sending that, Shen Zhuying no longer cared about Huang Yixuan’s barrage of exploding messages. She simply turned on “Do Not Disturb.”
Sitting cross-legged on the bed, she inhaled, exhaled, trying to calm her mind.
But the more she tried to calm down, the angrier she got.
Fine, fine, fine.
Childhood sweetheart, white moonlight again.
If they were so good at making things up, why didn’t they just go write romance novels on Tomato?
Shen Zhuying was so furious she bit into her pillow.
She couldn’t let the rumors keep spreading.
As one of the people directly involved, Shen Zhuying felt she had the duty to clarify.
So she picked up her phone again, carefully composed an official post for her Moments, chose a photo of the two of them holding hands, double-checked, and clicked send.

“To hell with all that talk of childhood sweethearts and white moonlight.”
After posting, Shen Zhuying ignored the instant explosion among her relatives and friends, and peacefully slept her beauty sleep.
The next day, she woke up brimming with energy once again.
The wedding was held at the Ming Sheng Hotel in the city center.
When the two of them arrived, it was still early before the ceremony was set to begin.
Just as Shen Zhuying entered, the other two from dorm 413 excitedly waved at her.
The bride, Li Ning, was still inside nervously going over the process, while Pei Qian and Li Xu were both dressed in bridesmaid gowns.
Shen Zhuying cheerfully ran over, the three girls clasping hands, their faces filled with excitement.
Ever since graduation, the four of them hadn’t truly been together again.
“This is my dorm mates, Pei Qian and Li Xu.”
“This is my… husband, Fu Sizhuo.”
When it came to the words “husband”, Shen Zhuying faltered for a moment, a faint blush flashing across her face.
Fu Sizhuo inclined his head to the two of them. “Hello.”
It was strange, though the man’s expression was clearly calm and indifferent, he gave off an inexplicably cold, imposing air, pressing Pei Qian and Li Xu into hurriedly nodding.
“Hello, hello.”
Pei Qian sighed. “Zhuzhu, I really didn’t expect you to be the first among us to get married.”
Back then, Pei Qian had been passionately in love with her college boyfriend, Li Xu also had a crush she admired, and Li Ning’s partner had been with her since high school.
Only Shen Zhuying, the prettiest and most good-tempered in the dorm, had always been single.
Though suitors lined up from Huada University all the way to Daxing Airport, she didn’t look at a single one.
Even someone like Senior Zhou hadn’t stirred her heart.
With standards that high, they had all thought this girl might just stay single her whole life.
Never expected she’d be the type to do big things quietly.
And this husband of hers now…
Pei Qian secretly sized him up.
No wonder she had turned her nose up at all those suitors back then.
The three of them hadn’t chatted long before Li Ning impatiently urged them in the dorm group chat to hurry over.
Before leaving, Shen Zhuying grabbed a handful of wedding candies from the table and set them before Fu Sizhuo, earnestly reminding him:
“If you feel bored, just eat some candy. I have to go inside for a bit, don’t go wandering off and make me have to look for you.”
Li Xu couldn’t take it anymore, “Shen Zhuying, are you raising a child or raising a husband?”
Pei Qian laughed so hard she nearly bent over. “She’s treating her husband like a kid to raise.”
Only then did Shen Zhuying realize how wrong her words had sounded. Just as she was about to say I take it back, I take it back, she saw Fu Sizhuo leisurely peel a candy and pop it into his mouth, showing not the slightest trace of annoyance at being bossed around.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you here.”
The syrupy scene had Li Xu and Pei Qian groaning that they couldn’t stand it.
When they met up with Li Ning, the four of them naturally fell into a long round of reminiscing.
So much that the bride’s eyes filled with tears, and the makeup artist hurriedly shouted to stop.
“Enough chatting, enough chatting, girls, it’s a wedding day, the makeup will smear!”
The groom, Zhuang Xuzhi, was running around in a frenzy, and the moment he walked in and found his wife about to cry again, he slapped his forehead in panic.
“My little ancestors, after all these years, you’re still trying to trip me up?”
Back in college, the three of them had given Zhuang Xuzhi no shortage of trouble.
“Alright, today we won’t make trouble for you.” Shen Zhuying handed the bouquet of calla lilies she had carefully prepared to Li Ning, tears brimming in her eyes, her smile curving gently.
“Today, I wish our beautiful girl Li Ning and Zhuang Xuzhi a long and happy union.”
It would have been fine if Shen Zhuying hadn’t said that, but once she did, Li Ning’s tears whoosh spilled down instantly.
“Wuwuwu… Zhuzhu baby, I love you so, so much.”
“Beautiful girl Li Ning, I love you too.”
Standing at the doorway, Zhuang Xuzhi watched the familiar scene unfold and sighed helplessly.
“Why don’t I just let the bridegroom be you?”
It was no exaggeration, he felt Li Ning had confessed to Shen Zhuying more times than she had confessed to him.
He had always suspected Shen Zhuying had that universal charmer quality.
Otherwise, why would both men and women all like her?
