His body went limp as if his spine had been removed. Even so, he tried not to put his weight on Zero, mindful of his ribs. But strong arms wrapped around him from below, pulling him close.
Zero’s breath, warm and content, tickled his ear as he whispered: “Jinya, let’s go on another trip.”
The simple invitation made Kagura’s chest tighten.
Had they reached a relationship where they could share such pointless, indulgent moments together?
And then, Kagura realised.
―――Perhaps, even now…
On the way back from Niigata, heading toward his apartment, he had found it strange that he didn’t feel the usual melancholy that followed a trip.
―――Could it be because they still felt as if they were still on their journey?
After losing his cousin, Kagura had pressed forward alone, relentlessly navigating a treacherous path. And now, Zero had joined him on it.
What began as acts to renew their contract of ‘keeping’ one another had gradually transformed into acts of mutual desire. Kagura found himself accepting that truth and even feeling joy in it.
Zero had changed him, allowing him to permit himself such indulgent and luxurious moments.
Zero, too, had allowed himself to be unsettled by Kagura for his sake.
Now, Kagura felt it was okay to say it out loud.
Lifting his face, he gazed into Zero’s eyes—deep as a night soaked in smoke-like rain.
“I want to protect you and Enwu.”
Before any doubt could surface in those eyes, he continued.
“Just as you protect me as a police officer, I will protect you as the one who supports Enwu.”
“…So that’s not a proposal, but a report on something already decided?”
“It is.”
Zero sighed and ruffled Kagura’s hair.
“Then I guess I don’t have a choice.”
Zero was holding the handle of an incredibly large, heavy umbrella.
Finally, Kagura could touch it, even if just a little.
“Yeah, no choice.”
Kagura reached up to stroke Zero’s black hair in return, and Zero gave a small, half-open smile. It was different from his usual smile. This was soft and boyish.
A bittersweet ache coursed through Kagura’s chest as he gently brushed his lips against Zero’s.
He thought he finally understood what kind of kiss this was.

*Author’s Postscript:
Hello, this is Fuyuko Sano.
This work is the sequel to ‘The Beasts Intertwine This Way’.
I was thrilled to reunite with Kagura, Zero, Chameleon Kiriyama, and Otter-kun. Writing Renjou, the new addition and hidden protagonist of this instalment, was incredibly enjoyable.
The story shifts to the ‘Invincible Castle’, delving deeper into the shadows and Kagura’s trauma.
Both Kagura and Zero are struggling without much room to breathe, yet they find moments of “luxury” amid it all.
Toono also makes an appearance. He’s inherently broken, not because of his upbringing, but by nature—a true miscreant.
I’m glad I could shine a spotlight on each of the Enwu members. Writing the casino scenes was a lot of fun, and I hope that came across correctly.
Oh, the hidden theme this time was “licking play”. Kiriyama doesn’t enjoy outright violations; he prefers psychological and physical torment that lingers. Zero’s jealousy-fueled cleansing licks complete the set.
The short story ‘Mounting’, included in this book, takes place before this instalment in the timeline. I hope readers can look back on how their relationship has evolved.
To Oyamada Ami-sensei, who provided the illustrations: thank you so much once again! Your breathtakingly cool, passionate depictions brimming with masculine allure were nothing short of overwhelming. Every character’s design in the sketches was so captivating it brought tears to my eyes. (Renjou is the best! Though I have to admit, Toono’s design got to me too…)
To my editor: Thank you for always supporting my unique approach to storytelling.
I am deeply grateful to the publisher and everyone involved in bringing this work to life.
And to all the readers who picked up this book: Thanks to you, I could once again share the world of ‘The Beasts Intertwine This Way’. Truly, thank you.
I sincerely hope you found something, anything, enjoyable within these pages.
Thanks to the feedback I’ve received, a further sequel is planned for next spring in the ‘Dear+ Spring’ issue! I’ll do my best to bring you another story full of dashing characters.
