Last week, they failed to abduct Kagura. And now, with his investigation into Machida Shogo’s murder, they seemed to have had enough.
If this was just a restart for them, it wasn’t the worst-case scenario for Kagura, but letting them capture Sanae too was a mistake.
―――But I’m their main target. Sanae’s more of an afterthought, so they’re unlikely to kill him.
It was a matter of probability, not certainty.
When he was dragged out of the vehicle, he could hear the sound of waves just beyond a wall. Given the travel time, it was likely a warehouse on the reclaimed land in Kawasaki.
The location was ideal for roughing someone up and dumping them in the sea.
This time, though, it was different from his usual method of using himself as bait with a lifeline in place. He had no desire to give up his life halfway, but he might have to steel himself for that possibility. In any case, now that it had come to this, all he could do was brace himself.
The sack was opened, and he was rolled onto a concrete floor. Though his vision was immediately obscured with a leather blindfold, he sensed they were in a large warehouse with a high ceiling, and there were around a dozen men present.
Kagura was dragged across the floor and made to sit with his back against a steel pillar. His wrists were untied briefly to remove his coat, then his arms were pulled backward so forcefully he thought his shoulders might pop out. His wrists were restrained again behind the pillar, and the tape on his ankles was ripped off.
“Hey, Detective.”
A cold object tapped against his cheek. It was probably a knife blade.
“Just how badly do you wanna get our attention, huh? Wandering around with that smug, indifferent look on your face?”
Judging by the tone of the voice, he’s probably in his late teens.
Among the men he briefly saw a moment ago, there was a young man with ash-grey hair. It’s probably him.
“You must really like men, huh?”
A voice filled with a vulgar sneer―――the speaker sounds like he’s in his mid-twenties. From the tone of his voice, he seems to be a rather burly man. There was a man who looked like a pro wrestler, so it’s probably him.
“His skin looks so pale and smooth, like it’d be easy to slice. Mind if I take a little cut?”
The boy asks, and a third man responds.
“If you slice him up, we won’t be able to get any info on the Police Division’s inner workings. Restrain yourself.”
He’s probably around his thirties. The way he speaks sounds like a civilian. It matches the impression of the man in a suit.
Under the pressure of the situation, Kagura felt his mind calm down instead, becoming unnervingly clear.
Ever since he could remember, he’d been training in kendo at his father’s dojo, but he realised now how much this practice had trained his mind, even more than his body.
―――There was no choice but to handle the situation in front of him.
After the gag was removed, he took a deep breath.
…A familiar scent flowed through his nostrils.
As someone grabbed his bangs and tilted his head back, a kick forced his inner thighs apart.
“How much does your Division know about us? Care to enlighten me?”
The scent seemed to be coming from the third man standing between Kagura’s legs.
Bitter… yet nostalgic.
―――It was Zero’s scent.
However, the man’s voice was clearly not Zero’s.
Zero’s voice sounded like it could dissolve into darkness, low and distinct, yet it never blended with anything else.
If it’s a different person, they must be using a similar perfume.
Kagura responded calmly.
“There’s nothing I have to say to you.”
The man shook his head, gripping his bangs.
“How about I make a few cuts to that handsome face of yours?”
“Do whatever you want.”
“Such a pointlessly brave detective.”
The man let out a low chuckle.
“Then let’s see if we can get that mouth of yours working a little better.”
“Open wide, Detective.”
With the knife boy’s high-pitched voice, something cool and hard pressed against his lips. Were they planning to slice his mouth?
Kagura opened his mouth. The flat of the blade traced along the slit of his lips.
“C’mon now, if you don’t open wider, it won’t go in.”
There was a faint sound of metal scraping.
As soon as the blade left his lips, something else was pressed there instead.
The slick, unsettling texture made Kagura instinctively turn his face away.
“What the…-!”
This time, that ‘something’ was pressed against his cheek.
“Are you okay with your partner getting hurt?”
“―――”
“If you cooperate well, we’ll let your partner go unharmed.”
He didn’t expect a thug to keep his word.
But if he refused now, the chances of Sanae losing his life would increase. That was something he absolutely had to avoid.
―――He had no choice.
After all, it was his own actions that had provoked the Eastern Alliance. He had to settle this himself.
Even in cases where he expected to be captured before, he had factored in the possibility of being subjected to physical violence such as punching and kicking.
As for sexual assault, it makes little difference to him as a man.
Kagura tightly clenched his back teeth, straightened his back, and pressed the back of his head against the iron pillar behind him. Then, he opened his mouth wide.
The man’s hand, with his bangs let loose, tapped Kagura’s head in a mocking manner.
