TPAE chapter 9.5

”…Don’t be afraid, I won’t take advantage of you.”

Sitting in his dorm room, Wei Xicheng couldn’t help but shiver. What the hell? Why was he thinking about that again? He shook his head, his slightly long hair swaying with the motion, as if that man in his mind would fly away along with it.

Ever since that strange first meeting and conversation, Wei Xicheng felt that his interactions with Yu Beiyan could only be described as terrifying.

He had practically fled from the CEO’s office in a panic, yet no matter how hard he tried to avoid him afterward, Yu Beiyan always managed to corner him.

The frequency of these encounters only made Wei Xicheng more convinced—Yu Beiyan is definitely up to no good.

Eventually, when he truly had no way to escape, he finally lost it.

He still remembered that afternoon when he somehow found the courage to turn around and shout at Yu Beiyan, who had been following him for quite some time: “Are you crazy?!”

And what did Yu Beiyan say back then? Something about being sick? Oh, right—lovesickness.

F*ck. Wei Xicheng crossed his arms and shivered again. This guy is way too shameless.

As for whether Yu Beiyan was just playing around with him or genuinely trying to sleep with him for favors, both possibilities felt terrifying. If he really entered the industry one day, just offending Yu Beiyan alone could be enough to keep him stuck at the bottom forever.

Wei Xicheng stared at the cup on his desk, picked it up, and took a sip. The water flowing down his throat made him feel a little better, less parched.

Although Yu Beiyan had been acting all nice and considerate, Wei Xicheng wasn’t dumb enough to trust him. The first time they met was at that lecture in the auditorium, and everything after that had spiraled out of control like a wild horse breaking free.

Having lived independently since childhood, Wei Xicheng had suffered plenty and understood how cruel the world could be. He was never someone who trusted others easily, and Yu Beiyan’s actions only made him more cautious.

He had wondered before—Yu Beiyan was such a sharp and calculating person, so how could he not see through him? The only explanation was that even if Yu Beiyan did know what kind of person he was, he simply didn’t care enough to put in more effort. To that man, he was probably just a way to pass the time. Who cared what a toy thought?

The water was cold as it slid down his throat. A trace of gloom flashed in Wei Xicheng’s eyes. Graduation was approaching, and all he could hope for now was that Yu Beiyan wouldn’t block his path forward.

He loved acting, but if Yu Beiyan…

Wei Xicheng sighed. What could he even do? He had ambition and dreams, but if his journey ended before it even began, he wouldn’t be able to fight back no matter what. His only option would be to go abroad.

His thoughts wandered far, his gaze unfocused, until the sharp ring of his phone snapped him out of it.

“Hello?” Wei Xicheng cleared his throat, making his voice sound more natural. “What is it?”

“Celebrating your graduation. Want to go out for dinner?”

A smooth, elegant male voice came through the receiver, instantly making Wei Xicheng frown. “No.”

“I booked the second floor of Starry Sky Restaurant. No one will be able to take photos of you. I heard their desserts are quite famous. Have you ever tried them?”

The person on the other end didn’t seem bothered by his cold tone. Instead, he chuckled softly, boldly tempting him.

That laughter made Wei Xicheng falter for a moment. He never truly believed Yu Beiyan was sincere, but this kind of careful consideration was something he had never experienced before.

What he liked, what he disliked—every time they met, it was all taken care of perfectly, down to the smallest detail.

Although this man Yu was always a bit overbearing, he had never actually forced him into anything. And whenever Wei Xicheng was about to snap and cut ties completely, some inexplicable sense of familiarity, intimacy, or even softness in his heart always held him back.

“…Not going.” Wei Xicheng gritted his teeth. Maybe it was because he had indulged himself a few times, letting a commoner like him enjoy the privileges of a high-class restaurant, that this CEO now thought he had a chance.

Even though he had paid back the favor with equivalent gifts, the whole thing still made him uncomfortable. As for the things he had given Yu Beiyan in return, the man had accepted them with great enthusiasm.

After saying that, Wei Xicheng could practically picture Yu Beiyan raising an eyebrow on the other end of the line.

He paused, suddenly realizing—since when had he become so familiar with that man?

“…Alright, then I’ll have Xiao Li bring it to your dorm later.” Yu Beiyan’s helpless voice rang clearly in his ears. “Do you really hate seeing me that much? Not even for Starry Sky’s desserts?”

”……”

It was as if Yu Beiyan had already expected silence. Just as he was about to say something, someone on his end seemed to speak to him first. Faintly, through the receiver, Wei Xicheng could hear snippets of their conversation. Strangely, he didn’t hang up.

“President Yu, this is the financial report for the last quarter. Manager Fu asked me to deliver it to you for review. Also, these are the documents requiring your signature. Regarding this afternoon’s meeting, the reports from each department…”

Lying on his desk, Wei Xicheng rested his chin on his arm, holding the phone to his ear with his other hand.

Yu Beiyan really did seem busy.

“Hello? Xicheng?”

“Huh?” Wei Xicheng sat up straight and glanced at the call duration—he had unknowingly stayed on the line for ten minutes, just listening.

“I thought you’d hung up. I’m a little… surprised.” Yu Beiyan’s good mood was evident in his voice.

Wei Xicheng pressed his lips together. “President Yu, let’s find a time to talk.”

In the end, he still ended up at Starry Sky Restaurant.

The two deep-blue characters of “Starry Sky” hung quietly above an exotic-looking building. At night, the entire structure glowed faintly with blue light—subtle yet enough to illuminate its full outline.

In a city where every inch of land was worth a fortune, buildings only kept getting taller. Yet this small restaurant remained just three stories high, standing out amidst the bustling district, both out of place and unique.

The restaurant’s biggest feature was that it only opened at night—only then could its beauty be truly appreciated. During the day, people might walk past it without a second glance, never realizing how stunning it became after dark.

In the fast-paced rhythm of city life, it felt like this was the only place where people could slow down, look up at the stars they had long forgotten, and savor the quiet and freedom of the night.

That was why, despite its limited hours, the restaurant remained incredibly popular—reservations were a must.

Taking a deep breath, Wei Xicheng stepped inside. He still found it strange—when he had suggested meeting, he originally planned to go straight to Yu Beiyan’s office. But Yu Beiyan had refused any form of in-person meeting, agreeing only to talk here.

Looking at the ambiance around him, Wei Xicheng felt uneasy. In such a beautiful setting, how was he supposed to ruthlessly cut ties with Yu Beiyan, risking his entire future?

He bit his lower lip. If only he hadn’t eaten at that lecture. If only he hadn’t fallen asleep at that lecture. If only… But regrets were worthless, and he had no fortune to buy a second chance.

“Mr. Wei? This way, please.” The waiter smiled and led him forward.

Upon reaching the second floor, Wei Xicheng noticed that there was only one table in the center of the entire floor. Yu Beiyan stood up to greet him.

“Congratulations on your graduation.”

“Not happy.” Wei Xicheng shot him a glance and stood his ground, lowering his gaze. “President Yu, do you find this fun?”

“What?”

“Toying with me—does that amuse you?” Wei Xicheng smiled faintly, but his expression was distant, his indifference stabbing right into Yu Beiyan’s heart. “What exactly are you after?”

Wei Xicheng lowered his eyes and scanned the room before finally fixing his gaze on Yu Beiyan’s shoes. The corner of his lips curled in mockery.

“With your wealth, there’s no one you can’t buy. I won’t accept your charity, and you don’t need to coax me like I’m some woman.”

Yu Beiyan leaned in, almost pressing his face against Wei Xicheng’s. His voice was low and dangerous.

“You really think I’ve been toying with you all this time?”

“President Yu, I may not have much talent, but I—” Wei Xicheng’s pupils shrank as Yu Beiyan suddenly moved forward. In the next second, his face was pressed against the man’s chest, completely trapped, the rest of his sentence swallowed back down.

“Let go of me.”

Wei Xicheng’s body bent slightly, with only his head firmly pinned against Yu Beiyan’s shirt. The buttons dug into his face, making it sting. His hands and feet weren’t restrained, yet he didn’t dare struggle too hard. If anything happened to Yu Beiyan because of him, he wouldn’t be able to bear the consequences.

Why am I such a coward?

Through the fabric, the warmth of Yu Beiyan’s body seeped into Wei Xicheng’s skin. He could hear the steady thump-thump of the man’s heartbeat.

“It’s my fault.”

This time, Yu Beiyan’s voice resonated directly through his chest, different from usual. Every word carried the rhythm of his heartbeat. But Wei Xicheng couldn’t understand—why was Yu Beiyan admitting fault?

“But you need to hurry up… I can’t wait much longer.”

Hurry up what?

Before Wei Xicheng could even ponder what words had been left unsaid, he was released. He quickly straightened up and looked at Yu Beiyan.

The man stood tall and composed, his deep gaze now tinged with an inescapable tenderness. He smiled.

“Since you’re already here, at least stay for a meal before you go.”

Wei Xicheng was wary.

“I won’t do anything to you.” Yu Beiyan smiled warmly. “In the future…”

He paused, then asked, “Do you really hate me that much?”

That was a difficult question to answer.

At this moment, Yu Beiyan seemed different from before, and an inexplicable sense of sympathy began to stir in Wei Xicheng.

“I… I don’t exactly hate you.”

“That’s good. If you ever run into trouble, you can come to me. I will never refuse—”

Mid-sentence, Yu Beiyan seemed to remember that Wei Xicheng disliked such promises, so he stopped.

“Let’s eat.”

The desserts at Starry Sky Restaurant weren’t as amazing as rumored.

Wei Xicheng ate absentmindedly, taking small bites while keeping his head down, all too aware of the gaze fixed on him from across the table.

Finally, he set his fork down. He still had his principles—he wouldn’t take advantage of others.

“I’m done. I should go now. How much was the bill?”

Yu Beiyan tapped his lips and met Wei Xicheng’s confused gaze. Then, he smiled and gestured toward the half-eaten strawberry mousse.

“A strawberry-flavored kiss.”

…How annoying.

The waiter, who had arrived in response to the call, smiled politely.

“Mr. Wei, President Yu has already paid the bill.”

Wei Xicheng turned to look at Yu Beiyan.

Yu Beiyan met his gaze. “You can treat me next time, after you start working and earn your own money.”

“I have a job.”

“A part-time job isn’t the same as a full-time career. Once you graduate and sign with a company, you’ll need money for all sorts of things. Consider this meal my treat for now.”
