TPAE chapter 9.6

Just as Wei Xicheng was about to say something, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He picked up the call and was immediately greeted by Peng Bo’s booming voice.

“Xicheng!!”

The volume was so loud that Wei Xicheng had to hold the phone away from his ear before listening again to Peng Bo’s dramatic wailing.

“I got—an agent! Hahaha!”

Peng Bo laughed exaggeratedly, and then a female voice cut in, followed by the sound of something heavy being knocked over.

“Peng Bo! Keep your voice down!”

“Oh, okay, okay, Sister Gui.”

Wei Xicheng teased him, “Impressive, Peng Peng. I only haven’t seen you for a few days, and now you even have an agent. If you ever become rich and successful—”

“I won’t forget you, I won’t forget you! Hehehe.”

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, Peng Bo lowered his voice and whispered, “Oh right, I called because Sister Gui mentioned that Shengshi Entertainment recently terminated the contracts of a few artists. I’ll send you some numbers later—try calling them. Who knows? This might be your chance.”

Sister Gui was from Legendary Entertainment. Even though Peng Bo was sharing this information with Xicheng, he was a little nervous that his newly signed agent might not be happy about it.

“Alright…” Wei Xicheng agreed, then glanced up at Yu Beiyan, who was sitting across from him.

The phone wasn’t exactly quiet—Peng Bo’s voice was loud and clear. Wei Xicheng had a feeling that the man sitting opposite him had heard everything.

Yu Beiyan simply smiled. “I don’t pay much attention to matters concerning our subsidiaries.”

But perhaps… it was time to start paying attention.

Wei Xicheng nodded and briefly exchanged a few more words with Peng Bo before hanging up the phone.

People with the right connections would usually secure contracts with agencies before graduation, and some even found agents at the very start of university. But Wei Xicheng had his sights set on Shengshi Zhengdao, which was why he had delayed things until now.

Now that graduation was approaching, everyone around him had signed with various entertainment and film companies, big and small. But Wei Xicheng was aware of his own ambition.

Shengshi had a high entry threshold, but every artist who made it in had achieved remarkable success in their respective fields. Some had even pioneered their own unique styles.

It wasn’t long before Peng Bo’s message arrived. Wei Xicheng opened it and found five or six phone numbers, each accompanied only by a surname—some didn’t even have names.

“Want me to ask around for you?”

Yu Beiyan’s voice came from behind him. Wei Xicheng instinctively straightened his back and shook his head.

Yu Beiyan seemed to have anticipated this reaction and didn’t push further. Instead, he asked, “Have you consulted a lawyer about contract matters?”

“No.”

Wei Xicheng hesitated. He hadn’t done much preparation. So far, he had only participated in Shengshi’s public auditions twice and had never personally contacted anyone from the company.

“Shengshi’s contracts vary from person to person. You’d better look into these matters beforehand. Work hard.”

Yu Beiyan didn’t offer any unnecessary help this time, which earned him a grateful look from Wei Xicheng.

Yu Beiyan chuckled to himself. He was rushing things.

In his mind, they had spent countless days together, long enough that there was no distinction between them. But right now, they were just two people who had only known each other for half a month.

He had wanted to leave his mark on Wei Xicheng ahead of time, simply because this version of him—without his past memories—made him anxious.

He feared that if he moved too slowly, he would lose him.

But he also knew that if his memories could come back, then Wei Xicheng would surely remember.

And if he didn’t—then Yu Beiyan would make him fall in love with him all over again.

After returning home, Wei Xicheng tried calling the numbers Peng Bo had sent him.

Despite how unreliable Peng Bo seemed, Wei Xicheng knew he wouldn’t have sent these numbers unless they were legitimate.

That chubby yet surprisingly agile friend of his was thoughtful and always took care of those around him.

Sure enough, these numbers belonged to some of Shengshi’s more influential agents.

However, some calls didn’t go through, and those that did ended in polite rejections the moment he mentioned he was reaching out on his own behalf.

Only one agent, surnamed Lin, agreed to meet him.

They arranged to meet on campus that very day. Coincidentally, Agent Lin happened to be at the school for something else, and since it wouldn’t take much time, he figured he might as well meet with Wei Xicheng.

Young people all had dreams, and this particular Wei student on the phone had been polite, neither overbearing nor timid—very composed. After seeing the photos Wei Xicheng sent privately, Lin Feng decided on the spot to meet him.

When Lin Feng saw him in person, his eyes lit up even more.

He casually asked a few questions, and Wei Xicheng’s answers all fit within his selection criteria.

But when Wei Xicheng mentioned that he wanted to pursue an acting career, Lin Feng frowned.

He understood better than Wei Xicheng that his face might not be suited for acting. Even with makeup and props, his range would be limited.

The biggest issue was that newcomers lacked experience and real-life depth—without exceptional talent, relying solely on classroom training wouldn’t produce genuine performances.

However, Lin Feng didn’t say this outright. He happened to have a spare script in his bag. Flipping through two pages, he handed it to Wei Xicheng.

“Try performing this section—Part A.”

Wei Xicheng read through the passage twice, glanced around, took a deep breath, and slowly immersed himself into the emotions of the character.

Lin Feng’s opinion began to shift.

When Wei Xicheng reopened his eyes, Lin Feng’s gaze had already changed.

This wasn’t easy.

Without having read the full script, grasping the emotional essence of this one scene—and using his imagination to capture the character’s personality—was a difficult task.

Lin Feng had initially only suggested this as a casual test, thinking he’d have to convince the kid to take an idol route first, build popularity through variety shows, and then consider acting.

But now, he had completely abandoned that idea.

The rest of their conversation went smoothly.

Wei Xicheng felt a little embarrassed. People always said his acting lacked soul, but this Agent Lin kept praising him. Even with his thick skin, he wasn’t sure how to handle it.

Lin Feng stuffed the script into his arms.

“Take this back and study it. Same role—once the contract is signed and processed, this production should be just about ready to start filming.”

Wei Xicheng never expected things to go so smoothly.

It felt like a dream—getting into Shengshi just like that and even landing his first script.

It was a small production, and his role was minor and unremarkable, but for someone without any connections, this was already an incredible start.

He pulled out his phone and texted Peng Bo:

“Thanks, man. I signed with Shengshi. Meat’s on me.”

Peng Bo’s reply came almost instantly.

“AH!!!”

Three exclamation marks—his way of expressing sheer disbelief.

“It’s because of that artist termination you mentioned. One of the agents lost a client and ended up signing me instead.”

Wei Xicheng chuckled. He said it like that, but deep down, he knew—it was because he had the talent.

As he scrolled through his contacts, his fingers stopped on a number labeled Yu Beiyan.

His fingertips itched slightly.

He wanted to tell him.

…Forget it.

Wei Xicheng closed his phone.

They had nothing to do with each other.

Why was he always paying so much attention to him?

Everything seemed to be falling into place. Apart from the occasional texts from Yu Beiyan, Wei Xicheng’s life was finally moving along its own path.

The script Lin Feng had casually handed him became something Wei Xicheng studied over and over again. Though it was just a minor role, it was his first real appearance before the public.

Life on set was just as he had imagined—harsh directors, but as long as someone was serious and hardworking, they were treated with leniency, even if their acting was somewhat “empty” and lacked soul.

What he didn’t realize, however, was that even though he had lost his memories, the experiences from those other worlds were deeply engraved in his very bones.

He didn’t need to consciously imagine the backstory or demeanor of the characters—he could embody them effortlessly because he had already lived through similar experiences.

Of course, Wei Xicheng himself remained completely unaware of this.

After all, who would ever suspect that after just a single night’s sleep, they had traveled through countless worlds and shed every label that once defined them?

But since it was only a minor role, no matter how satisfied the director was, he wouldn’t change the entire script for him. Still, the name Wei Xicheng had already been noted in the director’s mind.

It was Lin Feng, however, who couldn’t seem to wipe the grin off his face lately.

When luck was on someone’s side, nothing could stop it.

Who would have thought that such a talented student would stumble upon a random phone number and, like a blind cat catching a dead rat, end up in his hands—cough—anyway, Lin Feng was now confident he could mold an award-winning actor.

The future looked promising.

“Xicheng! Xicheng!”

Lin Feng turned toward the sound, only to see his newest favorite rookie lying on the ground, eyes tightly shut, brows furrowed in pain.

He rushed over immediately.

“Clear the way! Everyone move! Call 120!”

At the headquarters of the Yu Corporation, the company driver, Xiao Li, sprinted toward the conference room, only to be stopped by the assistant at the door.

Lowering his voice, he whispered a few words to the assistant.

The assistant’s expression immediately changed.

He paced back and forth anxiously before finally making up his mind, gritting his teeth and pushing open the door.

“Apologies.”

He gave a brief bow to the manager who had been presenting, then quickly leaned in close to Yu Beiyan and whispered something in his ear.

It took only a few seconds, but every executive in the room clearly saw their usually composed and unreadable president shoot to his feet with such force that his chair screeched loudly against the floor.

Without a word, Yu Beiyan strode out of the room.

After taking a few steps, Yu Beiyan snapped back to his senses, turned around, and gave a slight bow to everyone in the room.

“Apologies, everyone. I have an urgent matter to attend to. This meeting will be postponed, and I will notify you all of the rescheduled time later.”

With that, he swiftly exited the room.

His assistant, following closely behind, quickly gathered the documents, bowed to the executives, and then retreated as well.

He knew it—his guess had been correct.

Inside the hospital room, filled with the sterile scent of disinfectant, Lin Feng sat by the bedside, staring blankly at the unconscious Wei Xicheng.

The test results hadn’t come out yet, and Lin Feng was feeling restless. He had just signed a promising talent—he couldn’t afford to let it all be for nothing.

A series of rapid knocks on the door jolted him back to reality. He immediately stood up to open it, but in his heart, he was confused.

He hadn’t even had time to contact Wei Xicheng’s emergency contact yet—who could it be?

When the door opened, Lin Feng froze on the spot.

“President Yu?!”

“Mm.” Yu Beiyan gave a brief response, stepping past Lin Feng and walking straight into the room.

His gaze fell on Wei Xicheng, who was lying pale-faced on the hospital bed, and his heart clenched tightly.

He sat down by the bed without looking back. “Have the test results come out yet?”

“Ah, not yet, not yet.”

Lin Feng was already in a state of complete mental shutdown.

Could someone please explain what was going on?

How had his newly signed, supposedly unconnected rookie caught the attention of President Yu?

Or had he unknowingly stumbled upon something huge?

But none of his artists had mentioned anything…

Having President Yu as a backer versus not having President Yu as a backer—those were two completely different things!

In just a few seconds, Lin Feng’s mind had already run through thousands of possibilities.

“How did he collapse? Has he been overworking himself?”

Yu Beiyan deliberately lowered his voice, as if afraid of disturbing the unconscious person.

He gently placed a hand on Wei Xicheng’s face, his lips moving slightly, but in the presence of another person in the room, he ultimately chose to remain silent.

“Filming just started recently. Maybe he’s been putting too much pressure on himself.”

Lin Feng quickly responded, instinctively lowering his voice as well.

To be honest, he didn’t actually know why Wei Xicheng had fainted.

But in this situation, he couldn’t just say I don’t know.

“He’s been tense all the time, and maybe his body just hasn’t caught up yet. We’ll need to wait for the test results for a clearer answer.”

“Mm.”

Yu Beiyan gave a quiet acknowledgment and said nothing more.

Lin Feng, however, was growing increasingly uneasy.

Finally, unable to bear the stifling atmosphere, he stood up and pulled open the door.

“President Yu, I’ll go check if the test results are out.”

The air in there was just too…

Coincidentally, just as he stepped out, he saw a doctor approaching with a small notebook in hand.

Seeing this, Lin Feng could only hope for good news.

“For now, the patient appears to be in stable condition. The collapse was likely caused by mild hypoglycemia. If you’re still concerned, we can conduct a more comprehensive examination.”

Lin Feng was just about to respond when he suddenly heard faint voices coming from inside the room.

The doctor, upon noticing, pushed the door open to check on the patient.

When Lin Feng looked inside, his eyes widened in shock once again.

Seriously?

How had he never realized his newly signed artist had this kind of capability?

Inside the room, Wei Xicheng had woken up after receiving IV fluids.

His face finally had some color again.

However, the doctor and Lin Feng had clearly walked in at the wrong moment.

Wei Xicheng was currently hanging onto Yu Beiyan’s neck, arms draped over his shoulders, looking up at him with a half-smile.

“What took you so long?”

Yu Beiyan only smiled in response.

He gently took hold of Wei Xicheng’s arms and placed them back properly.

“I’ve been here for a while. Let the doctor check on you, be good.”

Wei Xicheng glanced at the doctor and Lin Feng standing by the door, then let go and chuckled.

“I’m fine now.”

Meanwhile, Lin Feng lifted a hand to prop his jaw back up.

Was it just his imagination, or had he just stepped out for a few minutes, and somehow his artist had… completely changed?

As everyone had expected, this small-scale artistic film was thrown into the vast ocean of the industry without making the slightest ripple. The box office failure could only be described as brutal.

The director, however, took it rather well. He even privately approached Wei Xicheng and directly asked if he was interested in playing the male lead in his next film. But before Wei Xicheng could respond, Lin Feng rejected the offer on his behalf.

Although Wei Xicheng’s role in the film was minor, it was evident that people had started to notice him.

According to Lin Feng, in terms of expressive power and emotional depth, Wei Xicheng was a natural-born genius. And a genius couldn’t afford to stay stagnant—he had to take one solid step at a time and gradually rise to the top.

Moreover, after witnessing the relationship between Wei Xicheng and Yu Beiyan, Lin Feng’s plans for his artist’s career path took a turn.

He wasn’t particularly interested in their love life, but he couldn’t deny the reality of the entertainment industry—having a strong background and solid resources was like wielding an unshakable, iron-clad fist.

It didn’t matter how long Wei Xicheng and Yu Beiyan would stay together. What mattered was that, for now, this relationship could only benefit Wei Xicheng—as long as it wasn’t exposed too soon.

And Lin Feng didn’t have to worry about that. With Yu Beiyan’s influence, his people would never let the news leak.

All Lin Feng needed to do was pick the right scripts and guide his artist to the top.

He felt like he had used up all his lifetime’s luck just by signing Wei Xicheng.

Wei Xicheng, on the other hand, had been enjoying himself these past few days.

His next schedule wasn’t for another week, and now that his immense spiritual energy had returned to his body, he needed time to adjust.

As he watched Yu Beiyan moving around the kitchen, he felt that life was pretty good.

After all the twists and turns, they had finally returned to their own world.

Now, they had the truest versions of each other.

Thinking back on all those different worlds he had experienced, it seemed like everything had been leading up to this moment—leading him to Yu Beiyan.

It wasn’t until he met him that his gray world was finally painted with color.

Yu Beiyan had freed him from the system’s control.

And he, in turn, had used the system to bring Yu Beiyan back to reality.

The two of them together—Wei Xicheng chuckled—they were truly a match made in heaven.

“What’s so funny?” A deep voice called out from the kitchen.

“I mean, I’ve already been a film emperor before.”

Wei Xicheng took small sips of milk.

Ever since he left the hospital, Yu Beiyan had insisted that he drink this every day.

He didn’t mind milk, but drinking it constantly? That was a bit much.

This morning’s glass had followed him all the way to noon, and there was still half left.

“Do you still want to be one?”

Yu Beiyan carried out the finished dishes, casually untying his apron.

“Of course. But in those worlds, I wasn’t this Wei Xicheng, the film emperor.”

“Then go for it.”

It wasn’t until Yu Beiyan pressed him down onto the couch that Wei Xicheng finally realized what he meant.

“I haven’t recovered yet! Let’s eat first!”

Yu Beiyan smirked. “Then Film Emperor Wei should finish his milk first. Health is the foundation of everything. What if you faint when receiving your little golden trophy?”

“You’re such a nag—” Wei Xicheng grumbled but obediently downed the rest of the milk.

Before he could finish his sentence, a warm pair of lips sealed his words away.

The rich taste of strawberries spread through his mouth, blending into the lingering milk flavor.

A small, round candy rolled across his tongue as Yu Beiyan deepened the kiss.

Wei Xicheng could barely breathe—he was drowning in this deep ocean called Yu Beiyan.

“This is the kiss you owe me.”

“…Scoundrel.”

“Xi Cheng, I love you.”

Happiness filled Wei Xicheng’s gaze.

Staying like this forever—it really wasn’t a bad idea.

“I love you too.”

【Main Story Ends】

A side story has been posted in the author’s notes!

Laughter echoed from the bedroom.

Wei Xicheng was rolling around on the bed, laughing so hard that it startled Yu Beiyan, who was working in the study next door.

Concerned, Yu Beiyan walked in. “What’s going on?”

Seeing him, Wei Xicheng lay on his stomach, waving him over. “Come look at this—these headlines are ridiculous.”

Today, photos of him and Yu Beiyan together had been exposed.

He had initially braced himself for an onslaught of hate comments and anti-fans.

But when he actually clicked on those clickbait articles, he found that they were all… defending him?

Some people argued that photos alone didn’t prove anything.

Others insisted that the two were just good friends.

No matter how much they tried to spin it, no one could tie the story back to a sugar daddy relationship or a romantic affair.

In a society that wasn’t fully open-minded yet, for the first time, Wei Xicheng found himself seriously thinking about how to legalize their relationship.

On Weibo and various other platforms, all the push notifications were filled with fans laughing and joking, saying that gossip media must be running out of news and was now trying to ride on their Film Emperor’s popularity.

Wei Xicheng scrolled through the comments, but soon, his smile disappeared.

What was this? Did everyone really think that his relationship with Yu Beiyan was impossible?

Yu Beiyan could tell what he was thinking at a glance. His brows twitched slightly, but he suppressed the curve of his lips, pretending to be indifferent.

“At least there aren’t any haters making a fuss. That way, you won’t get upset reading the comments.”

“I stopped caring about what other people think a long time ago. You know that.” Wei Xicheng cut him off and continued, “What’s with you? Do you think I’m the kind of person who’d be upset just because people don’t believe we’re together?!”

Yu Beiyan chuckled inwardly but kept his face neutral, pretending not to notice Wei Xicheng’s irritation. He spoke calmly, “It’s not that I think you care—it’s just that your industry…”

“What about it? What’s wrong with being an actor?”

Wei Xicheng knew what Yu Beiyan was getting at, but his frustration flared up uncontrollably—not necessarily at Yu Beiyan, but at the situation itself. Even he didn’t fully understand why he was so angry.

“Just because I’m an actor, I have to live under everyone’s scrutiny? I’m not allowed to have my own life?!”

Yu Beiyan raised an eyebrow. “So, you don’t care about your fans?”

Wei Xicheng, thoroughly irritated, grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. “Have we been together for so long, and you still don’t know me? Of course I care about them! But I’m not going to give you up just because of my fans!”

Finally, Yu Beiyan smiled.

Catching the pillow, he pounced onto the bed and effortlessly captured his little prey in his arms. “You said it yourself.”

“Yu Beiyan, do you dare to go public with me?”

Wei Xicheng pushed himself up from Yu Beiyan’s embrace and stared down at him.

“If we do, your company’s stock might take a serious hit!”

“I’m not afraid.”

Yu Beiyan looked at him lazily, completely unfazed.

Over the past few years, they had both been busy with their own careers, giving each other enough space. Because of this, Wei Xicheng had no idea that Yu Beiyan had already made all the necessary arrangements.

He had prepared an escape route for everything—he was just waiting for Wei Xicheng to willingly board his pirate ship.

The pressure and potential fallout had already been dealt with.

However, since Wei Xicheng was a public figure, there would still be unpredictable consequences. That’s why Yu Beiyan had subtly instructed his company’s PR team to be ready at all times.

“Alright, then let’s go public.”

Wei Xicheng pulled out his phone, grabbed Yu Beiyan’s hand, snapped a picture, typed out a few words, and posted it without hesitation.

Wei Xicheng V: “After seeing today’s headlines, I feel… really upset.” (Attached Image.jpg)

Fans and casual readers alike were confused.

His fans were baffled—had their Film Emperor not seen today’s headlines? There wasn’t a single negative article!

On the other hand, casual readers found him a bit dramatic, though they couldn’t deny his talent.

But when they actually saw the image—

Their minds collectively exploded with one word:

“Holy sh*t.”

The picture was of two men’s hands intertwined.

What did this mean?

Was it a joke? Or… was it real?

Fans went wild.

Then, Yu Beiyan’s reposted statement landed.

Yu Beiyan V: “There’s nothing complicated about my relationship with Xicheng. He wanted to go public because he was afraid I’d be wronged. Everyone has the right to pursue true love and freedom, no matter their identity.”

He directly quoted Wei Xicheng’s post.

The moment this was published, reactions flooded the internet.

Some people were supportive.

Others found it disgusting.

But neither Wei Xicheng nor Yu Beiyan cared about online opinions anymore.

Wei Xicheng had already made up his mind—he was going to continue his career in the U.S.

Most of his fans understood and supported him.

The ones who couldn’t accept it? Well, they couldn’t exactly lie to themselves either.

After all, among the fan circles, Yu Beiyan had appeared in far too many behind-the-scenes photos.

And besides, these two had no major scandals—only pure talent and strength.

Yu Group’s PR team quickly released a statement.

Wei Xicheng’s agent, Lin Feng, also made an official response.

While the internet buzzed with discussions, the two people at the center of it all had disappeared.

Later, a trending comment surfaced:

“‘He was afraid I’d be wronged’—Yu Beiyan, how shameless can you get?! This CEO’s tone is absolutely infuriating! Chengcheng’s girlfriend mode: cold and indifferent. (JPG)”

Wei Xicheng finally noticed the discussion when he checked his phone.

By then, it was too late.

He hadn’t had time to check the post’s aftermath—because Yu Beiyan had already dragged him off to the U.S. to get married.

Right now, they were lying on a beach, vacationing on a secluded island.

Wei Xicheng turned to look at the man beside him and spoke.

“Yu Beiyan, how do you have the nerve to say you were afraid of being wronged?”

“Oh.”

Wei Xicheng burst into laughter.

The sun was shining.

The scenery was beautiful.

And the person beside him… was just perfect.
