In the dark night, the omega’s fragrance was intensely rich. Like the clearest road sign, it guided the desperate pursuers trailing the two children.
As Jiang Sixian’s pheromones grew stronger, Jiang Yi’s scent became even more pronounced. Lured by the omega, her pheromones swept through every place she passed like a storm.
On the dark road, Jiang Yi, guided by the bright moon above, pulled Jiang Sixian along as they ran wildly down the highway.
Both were exceptionally fit children. Coupled with the fact that the two chasing them were suppressed by Jiang Yi’s pheromones, their speed gradually slowed. After rounding a bend, Jiang Yi managed to shake them off.
Jiang Yi pulled Jiang Sixian, running through the darkness. The intense exertion left them oxygen-deprived, their throats tight, their lungs aching. After sprinting for some distance, Jiang Sixian, weakened immensely by her heat cycle, stumbled on a downhill slope, her entire body pitching forward uncontrollably.
Jiang Yi, holding her hand, was pulled along, and both tumbled to the ground.
Through thin layers of clothing, their knees scraped against the asphalt, leaving large abrasions.
Jiang Yi gritted her teeth against the pain and quickly helped Jiang Sixian up, asking nervously, “What happened? Are you hurt?”
Jiang Sixian’s knee was scraped raw, but she felt nothing. The tide of passion surged within her, tormenting her unbearably.
Jiang Sixian was already starting to run a fever, her mind slowly clouding over. She clung to Jiang Yi’s hand and shook her head. “No… I’m fine… Jiang Yi… Jiang Yi, you go… leave me…”
She knew she couldn’t hold on much longer.
Jiang Yi’s heart pounded like thunder; she could almost hear the pursuers’ footsteps drawing near. She cupped Jiang Sixian’s face, faintly seeing her own bloodstains smudging Jiang Sixian’s cheek in the dim light.
Jiang Yi’s mind waged a war. One moment, she saw the seductive image of Jiang Sixian from the book; the next, the pure, moving face of the nearly eighteen-year-old Jiang Sixian before her.
Ah, this was driving her crazy!
Just die then! So what if she died at twenty! At least she’d lived two years longer than before!
She brushed aside the long hair by Jiang Sixian’s neck, placing her hand on the gland there, suppressing her violently beating heart as she said, “I won’t leave you, Jiang Sixian.”
As Jiang Yi spoke, she leaned in, embracing the other girl, her breath brushing against Jiang Sixian’s neck. “It might hurt a little. Don’t make a sound. If you can’t bear it, bite me.”
From the moment Jiang Yi had lifted her hair, Jiang Sixian knew what she intended to do. There was no helping it; her pheromones were too strong. Without suppressants or an alpha’s pheromones, she would eventually lose her mind to the heat.
Jiang Sixian wrapped her arms around Jiang Yi’s shoulders and nodded slightly.
Jiang Yi hugged her tightly, opened her mouth, took the gland on Jiang Sixian’s neck between her teeth, and bit down hard.
In that instant, Jiang Sixian felt as if she were plunged into a world of ice and snow, overwhelmed by the pervasive scent of cedar.
Ah, her alpha.
Experiencing this ultimate pleasure for the first time, Jiang Sixian wrapped her arms around Jiang Yi’s shoulders, trembling as she opened her mouth and bit down on Jiang Yi’s shoulder.
Jiang Yi let out a soft hiss, enduring the pain as she injected her pheromones into Jiang Sixian’s body, completing a temporary mark.
After infusing her pheromones, Jiang Yi miraculously found she could control Jiang Sixian’s scent.
The pheromones that had been escaping wildly from the gland, summoned by the alpha’s scent, stopped dispersing. In a fleeting moment, Jiang Sixian’s fever subsided.
As the scalding heat receded, sensation slowly returned to her body. Jiang Sixian suddenly felt immense pain radiating from her ankle and knee.
Hiss… So painful…
Jiang Sixian tilted her head back, tears welling in her eyes as she looked at Jiang Yi. Jiang Yi ignored her bleeding shoulder, helped Jiang Sixian up, and asked, “What’s wrong? Still uncomfortable?”
Jiang Sixian shook her head. “No, Jiang Yi, I think I twisted my ankle.”
Jiang Yi immediately bent down, feeling both of Jiang Sixian’s ankles. Sure enough, the foot with the previously torn ligament was swollen again.
Many athletes easily re-injure themselves after tearing a ligament. Jiang Yi knew she couldn’t run anymore. Decisively, she crouched in front of her, hoisted her onto her back, and sprinted forward.
The night wind was cold. Jiang Sixian, clinging to Jiang Yi’s back, couldn’t stop the tears from flowing wildly. She hugged Jiang Yi’s neck, lowered her head, and pressed her lips to the shoulder she had bitten, sobbing apologies. “I’m sorry… Jiang Yi, I’m sorry…”
Jiang Yi felt like her lungs were about to explode. She ran towards the light, panting, “Sorry my ass…”
They’d both been kidnapped; who owed who an apology? Was she supposed to watch Jiang Sixian go into heat and end up violated by an alpha?
Jiang Sixian’s tears streamed down Jiang Yi’s neck. She inhaled the cedar scent enveloping her and whispered to her alpha, “But Jiang Yi… I really like you.”
Her sudden confession nearly made Jiang Yi stumble. Carrying Jiang Sixian, she gritted her teeth and ran forward. “Like me…”
“Then give me a child when we get back!”
Damn it! Jiang Yi figured since things had come to this, they might as well get married young and start dating early, saving a beautiful girl from falling into someone else’s hands.
Thinking of others, Jiang Yi grew increasingly angry, her pace quickening.
Jiang Sixian bounced violently on her back. She hooked her arms around Jiang Yi’s neck and nodded through her tears.
Jiang Yi paid no attention to her reaction, running straight towards an intersection.
Just then, a voice shouted from ahead: “Fuck! Boss, the little brats are here!”
Jiang Yi looked up and abruptly saw the figure of a kidnapper at the intersection. Seeing this, Jiang Yi, carrying Jiang Sixian, turned onto a branching path leading up the mountain.
The mountain was densely forested. Jiang Yi, afraid of getting lost, didn’t dare take Jiang Sixian too deep.
Darkness surrounded them, filled with strange noises. As Jiang Yi ran, she could only hear the crunch of branches underfoot and her own ragged breathing.
Gritting her teeth, she turned back with Jiang Sixian, returning to the intersection where the streetlights offered some illumination.
She put Jiang Sixian down, hid her well in the bushes, and whispered, “It’s hard for two people to escape together.”
Jiang Sixian’s voice instantly filled with panic, tears streaming even more fiercely. She frantically grabbed Jiang Yi, crying, “Jiang Yi, where are you going… I don’t want to be separated from you…”
“I’m scared…”
Jiang Yi was terrified too, but carrying Jiang Sixian, she truly couldn’t run. She was afraid she wouldn’t make it, that they’d be caught, and what if something happened to Jiang Sixian?
Jiang Yi steeled herself, thinking she was fated to die at twenty anyway, definitely not today. With that thought, boundless courage surged within her.
She could protect Jiang Sixian, absolutely.
Jiang Yi leaned down to look at Jiang Sixian, touching her face. “This is an intersection. Family and police will definitely drive here looking for us. Don’t flag down any car except a police car.”
“I’ll lead those two away and come back for you soon.”
Jiang Sixian clung to her hand, sobbing uncontrollably. “No… Jiang Yi, no…” She shook her head desperately, trying to stop Jiang Yi’s foolish decision.
But Jiang Yi was crazed now, convinced she wouldn’t die here. Saying she’d be right back, she pushed Jiang Sixian’s hand away.
Just then, the sound of the two pursuers’ footsteps echoed nearby again.
Jiang Yi hardened her heart, pushed Jiang Sixian’s hand away again, and said fiercely, “Be good!”
Jiang Sixian grabbed her, stumbled to her feet, held her arm, and pressed her cold lips against Jiang Yi’s.
It was a sudden kiss, stunning Jiang Yi.
The kiss was fleeting; Jiang Sixian quickly pulled away. The wild night wind rushed between them, blowing Jiang Sixian’s hair away from her temples.
Jiang Sixian looked up, gazing at her seriously. “I’ll be good, but you have to come back quickly. Jiang Yi, I’m scared. I can’t be without you.”
Jiang Yi didn’t know if she meant scared right now, or scared of losing her. Jiang Yi took a deep breath and told her, “Don’t be afraid, I’ll be fine.”
“I’ll come back for you soon. Just wait here for me.”
After she spoke, the omega, as if controlled by her, uncontrollably crouched down, hiding in the bushes.
The footsteps of the two kidnappers grew increasingly urgent, like vengeful ghosts stalking closer.
Jiang Yi took a deep breath, bent low, and ran quickly in the opposite direction of the bushes, recklessly releasing her pheromones as she ran.
Her limited experience controlling her pheromones was all being used tonight. Alphas repelled each other’s scents. Releasing all her pheromones in front of another alpha would be seen as a provocation; no alpha would refuse the challenge.
Jiang Yi was thankful her biology knowledge was good; at least she could use it to survive now.
Sure enough, after she released her pheromones, the female alpha immediately gave chase, unwilling to be outdone, releasing her own scent.
Jiang Yi focused her mind intensely, locking onto the pheromones of the two kidnappers, leading them headlong into the mountains without looking back.
Not long after Jiang Yi led the kidnappers away, police car lights flashed at the foot of the mountain. Sirens wailed as they drove up, reaching the intersection below.
Jiang Sixian saw the police car, stumbled out of the bushes, and screamed hoarsely, “Save… save Jiang Yi…”
Soon, a line of police cars stopped, their flashing lights illuminating the dim mountain road.
A female beta police officer quickly got out of the car and caught Jiang Sixian, who was about to collapse.
Held by the officer, Jiang Sixian tightly gripped her arm, rambling incoherently, “Jiang Yi… Jiang Yi, she…”
Just then, Ning Wenying also got out of a car. Seeing her daughter, tears instantly streamed down her face. “Xianxian…”
She ran to Jiang Sixian’s side and embraced her tightly. “Xianxian… it’s good you’re safe, it’s good you’re safe…”
Held tightly by her mother, Jiang Sixian finally found a sliver of warmth in the dark night. She buried her face in Ning Wenying’s embrace, sobbing, “Mom… Mom… Jiang Yi, she…”
Just then, Ning Wenying noticed the unusual scent clinging to Jiang Sixian. Ning Wenying’s expression changed. “What happened to Xiao Yi? Why isn’t she with you…”
Jiang Sixian, nestled in her arms, sobbed as she explained, “Someone… someone was chasing us… Jiang Yi, to protect me, led them away…”
“Mom… quick… go find her…”
Soon, a dozen police officers, flashlights in hand, began a thorough search nearby.
Ning Wenying held Jiang Sixian in the car, waiting through the night. What they received instead was news that the search party had found two seriously injured kidnappers on the other side of the mountain, by the river, along with a torn piece of Jiang Yi’s clothing…
That morning, Jiang Qionghua, face pale and dark-circled, rushed to the scene. Seeing the fragment of Jiang Yi’s clothing, the world went black, and she collapsed straight onto the ground…
After that day, Jiang Yi never returned.
