That entire morning, Jiang Yi followed Jiang Sixian to several meetings. The terminology and events discussed were things Jiang Yi didn’t fully understand.
She stood ramrod straight by the door, watching Jiang Sixian seated at the head of the table reviewing documents handed to her by assistants while discussing projects with her key team members. At this moment, Jiang Sixian seemed to shine as brightly as the sun, dazzling to behold.
Jiang Yi wore sunglasses, her attention entirely focused on Jiang Sixian, thinking how impossible it was not to like her like this.
Even if she could be clingy in bed, even if certain aspects revealed hints of neuroticism—when you saw her immersed in work, it was hard not to be captivated.
Jiang Yi felt it would be perfectly normal to develop feelings for her. Especially since this was the omega who had spent her heat with her.
All the meetings wrapped up by 11:30 AM. Jiang Sixian brought Jiang Yi back to her office and handed her a contract to sign.
Jiang Yi glanced around, noting the surveillance cameras in every corner, and relaxed slightly as she sat at a small desk to sign the documents.
While Jiang Sixian signed several pre-reviewed project proposals, she paused when she saw Jiang Yi using a fountain pen to sign the contract. It reminded her of how Jiang Yi used to diligently work on homework back in school, filling her with nostalgia.
Jiang Sixian stood and walked over to Jiang Yi, resting one hand on the desk while gazing down at Jiang Yi’s unchanged handwriting. Softly, she asked, “Finished yet?”
Jiang Yi was just signing her name. “Almost, almost done.”
Once signed, Jiang Yi tossed the contract to Jiang Sixian. “Go get it stamped.”
Jiang Sixian took the contract but remained silent, her eyes lingering on Jiang Yi.
Confused, Jiang Yi looked up at her. “Anything else?”
Jiang Sixian set the contract aside, bracing one hand on the desk while the other cupped Jiang Yi’s cheek. “Why were you staring at me earlier?”
Jiang Yi’s face flushed instantly. Suppressing the heat of embarrassment, she retorted, “Who was staring? I was wearing sunglasses—how could you tell?”
Jiang Sixian pinched her cheek, amused. “I never said it was when you had your sunglasses on.”
Jiang Yi choked—she’d just walked into that one. Annoyed, she turned her face away with a huff. “You’re so full of yourself!”
Jiang Sixian didn’t take offense. Instead, she stroked Jiang Yi’s cheek, turning her head back to face her. “At least you didn’t say I was being presumptuous.”
Her gaze was tender—not the gentle affection of a mother, nor the benevolent regard of an elder toward a junior. It was the look of someone gazing up at their beloved.
Jiang Yi’s heart itched under that stare, even feeling a little shy. Just days ago, she’d been certain Jiang Sixian wasn’t truly looking at her. But now, she wasn’t so sure.
Was the reflection in Jiang Sixian’s eyes “Jiang Yi,” or was it her? Had Jiang Sixian always seen her as “Jiang Yi,” or did she believe her story about being a soul from another world?
Who exactly was Jiang Sixian’s love meant for?
Lost in thought, Jiang Yi’s eyes flickered uncertainly. Jiang Sixian noticed her distraction immediately. Cradling the back of Jiang Yi’s head, she settled onto her lap and leaned in for a kiss.
Expecting a deep kiss, Jiang Yi instinctively arched back, arms wrapping around Jiang Sixian’s waist as her chair scraped loudly across the floor.
But no—it was just a fleeting brush of lips, light as a dragonfly skimming water.
When the softness withdrew, Jiang Yi looked up, dazed.
What? No more? Normally, Jiang Sixian would pin her down, insatiable in her demands. Why the sudden change today?
The thought flashed through her mind before Jiang Yi realized with shock that she was the one left wanting now.
Jiang Sixian seemed surprised by her reaction. Tucking a strand of hair behind Jiang Yi’s ear, she smiled. “Not now. I have an important project meeting this afternoon—can’t afford to be tired.”
Jiang Yi wanted to strangle herself. “I didn’t mean that! Its reaction isn’t my reaction! Let me make this clear—my soul and my body are separate entities!”
Even if her body adored Jiang Sixian, her soul was still an innocent child!
Jiang Sixian nodded sagely. “Oh…” Then she leaned closer, lips parting near Jiang Yi’s ear as she whispered, “But if you need help, I don’t mind…”
Help with what?
A bite?
Jiang Yi’s mind blanked. Suddenly, she became acutely aware of her own pounding heartbeat.
How could she forget? For all her icy professionalism this morning, the woman in her arms was an unrepentant seductress in private—one who could melt bones.
Before she lost control, Jiang Yi hoisted Jiang Sixian onto the desk and bolted for the restroom. “Gotta pee!”
This was so unfair. This body wasn’t even hers—it belonged to Jiang Sixian. No wonder it reacted so intensely to the slightest provocation.
Jiang Sixian sat frozen on the desk, watching Jiang Yi flee before bursting into laughter. She clutched her stomach, tears of mirth gathering in her eyes.
Too adorable. Even without doing anything, she couldn’t resist teasing her. Just like before, once she realized Jiang Yi was afraid of her, she’d constantly sought ways to fluster her.
That unconscious attention, that overwhelming curiosity—perhaps from the very first glance, she’d already been doomed.
Laughter turned to silent tears. Tilting her head back, Jiang Sixian carefully wiped them away with her pinky, swallowing the ache.
Even after finding Jiang Yi, even knowing she hadn’t died—facing this amnesiac version still hurt.
Sometimes she wondered: if only she hadn’t been an omega. That night, she wouldn’t have gone into heat, and Jiang Yi wouldn’t have been forced onto the streets protecting her.
Jiang Yi’s life, dreams, future—all had been derailed. And not just hers; Jiang Sixian’s too.
If she weren’t an omega, they wouldn’t be where they were today.
At any other designation, she would have proposed when they came of age. They’d be married, with a family of their own. Even if their mothers objected, they’d have had a happiness they could envision.
Yet Jiang Sixian was also grateful to be an omega. Without it, she’d never have known Jiang Yi’s scent, never decoded the secrets carried in those biological signals.
That night—the night Jiang Yi gave her a temporary mark before carrying her to safety—Jiang Sixian had been enveloped in nothing but Jiang Yi’s pheromones.
Only then did she understand: every word, every action from Jiang Yi had been saying, “I love you…”
She’d always thought Jiang Yi saw her as just a sister. But that night, surrounded by those silent whispers, she finally grasped Jiang Yi’s quiet, moonlit devotion.
Some things, if Jiang Yi never spoke them, she’d never know. But in this world where scents intertwined, as an omega, she’d learned that to understand her Alpha, pheromones held the answers.
Then and now, Jiang Yi had always loved her.
The thought filled Jiang Sixian with joy. It didn’t matter. They had so much time ahead. One day, Jiang Yi would admit it.
Jiang Yi spent a long while in the restroom. When she finally emerged after washing her hands, she found Jiang Sixian still perched on the desk, knees drawn up, arms wrapped around them. The look she gave Jiang Yi seemed fragile.
Jiang Yi’s heart skipped. She approached. “Why didn’t you get down? Why are you still sitting there?”
Jiang Sixian rested her chin on her knees, blinking up at her. “Whoever put me up here should be the one to take me down.”
Jiang Yi thought the desk wasn’t even that high. “Get down yourself. I’m going to lunch.”
After the embarrassment Jiang Sixian had put her through, she wasn’t about to indulge her. But she’d barely taken two steps when Jiang Sixian called out, “Jiang Yi…”
Turning back, Jiang Yi found Jiang Sixian gazing at her with teary eyes, pouting. “Please… carry me down?”
Who could resist a beauty’s charms? Certainly not Jiang Yi.
Her resolve crumbled instantly. “Fine, since you’re begging, I’ll reluctantly carry you.”
She returned to the desk, lifting Jiang Sixian down gently. As they separated, Jiang Sixian pressed a kiss to her cheek. “Thank you, Jiang Yi.”
As if forgetting Jiang Yi had been the one to abandon her there in the first place. Flustered, Jiang Yi rubbed her ear. “If you’re grateful, buy me lunch!”
“Okay.”
At noon, Jiang Sixian took Jiang Yi out for a meal.
After lunch, bodyguard A-Quan drove them to their next appointment. When they arrived, Jiang Yi realized it was an equestrian center.
Curious, she asked, “You’re meeting someone here?”
Jiang Sixian nodded. “Of course. Since they invited me, why not pick somewhere I like?”
She had an attendant bring Jiang Yi a new riding outfit. “I know you can ride—you trained in the military. The person isn’t here yet. Ride a few laps with me first.”
Jiang Yi agreed and obediently changed in Jiang Sixian’s VIP dressing room. When she came out, Jiang Sixian was already suited up.
Dressed in white and black with her hair in a ponytail, helmet tucked under her arm, Jiang Sixian looked dashing. Jiang Yi couldn’t look away—the outfit felt strangely familiar.
Jiang Sixian led her out to the field where two magnificent horses awaited—one golden, one white.
Delighted, Jiang Yi pointed at the white stallion. “What’s his name?”
Jiang Sixian answered, “Ta Xue (Treading Snow).”
Jiang Yi gestured to the golden horse. “And this one? He looks majestic!”
Jiang Sixian’s lips quirked. “Da Huang (Big Yellow).”
Big Yellow? That was way too casual!
Jiang Yi turned to her. “These are your horses? Do you not like the yellow one much?”
Jiang Sixian looked puzzled. “Why do you say that?”
Jiang Yi coughed. “Because you named him Big Yellow! That’s as lazy as naming my dog!”
Jiang Sixian gave her a long look but said nothing. She thought to herself: If Jiang Yi ever regains her memories and remembers saying this, the embarrassment might just kill her.
