Jiang Yi had initially been flustered, thinking Jiang Sixian might be ill, but she turned out to be perfectly fine—nothing was wrong at all. This left Jiang Yi both embarrassed and furious.
She released Jiang Sixian, pushed her back into the passenger seat, and fastened her seatbelt while muttering under her breath, “If you’re not sick, don’t mess with me like this. Do you think it’s fun to toy with me?”
“Stay put. I’m taking you home. Don’t try to trick me again.”
Jiang Yi’s expression was dark. Jiang Sixian blinked, lowering her gaze to look at her before asking cautiously, “Are you angry?”
Jiang Yi glared up at her. “What do you think? You keep playing these games with me—I never know when you’re being serious or just teasing. My brain isn’t exactly sharp, okay? It’s hard for me to figure you out!”
She seemed genuinely upset about the little joke. Jiang Sixian bit her lip, then leaned forward to wrap her arms around Jiang Yi, pressing close to whisper in her ear, “I’m sorry. I just thought… you were being too cute, and I couldn’t resist teasing you.”
Jiang Yi stiffened, her resentment fading slightly, though she still felt sour. She pulled Jiang Sixian’s hands away and looked at her seriously. “Why did you poke holes in the condom? We agreed—we weren’t going to have a child this way.”
“Jiang Sixian, what were you thinking? What if you really got pregnant?”
“What would I do then? How would I face that child?”
Jiang Sixian pressed her lips together, lifting her gaze to meet Jiang Yi’s with a pitiful expression. “Then… we’d get married.”
Jiang Yi was so mad she could scream. Was this about marriage? This was about having a child!
Wait… Did Jiang Sixian think that if she got pregnant, they could get married?
Would Jiang Sixian really come up with such a crazy idea?
Jiang Yi turned it over in her mind and realized—yes, Jiang Sixian absolutely would.
She started the car, gripping the steering wheel as she slowly accelerated. Her lips were pressed into a thin line, her expression grim. After a long pause, she finally spoke, her voice hoarse. “Jiang Sixian… do you really want a child that belongs to Jiang Yi that badly?”
Jiang Sixian sensed her mood shifting and tugged at her sleeve, calling out softly, “Jiang Yi, don’t be angry…”
Jiang Yi felt like Jiang Sixian didn’t understand the situation at all. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm as she spoke patiently. “Jiang Sixian, I agreed to be your bed partner, your stand-in, your lover—whatever you want to call it.”
“From the very beginning, we agreed that if you wanted a child, I’d provide my DNA so you could have one with Jiang Yi through artificial means.”
“But what you did—that’s breaking our agreement. Do you understand that? Did you even consider how I’d feel?”
“Do you really think that if you had my child, I could just stay indifferent?”
Jiang Yi’s tone was measured, far calmer than when she’d been flustered earlier, but Jiang Sixian inexplicably felt like she was a volcano hidden beneath the ocean’s surface, ready to erupt at any moment.
She reached out hesitantly, tugging at Jiang Yi’s sleeve. “Jiang Yi, I won’t do it again—”
Jiang Yi’s voice was cold. “You won’t do it again? How do I know you won’t?”
“You’re always lying to me… This isn’t just about teasing—this is about you breaking our agreement. Do you understand?”
Afraid she might lose control of her emotions, Jiang Yi pulled the car over to the side of the road. Once parked, she took Jiang Sixian’s hand and said, “Tell me—have you never really listened to what I’ve said? Have you always just seen me as your Jiang Yi?”
“Even after I’ve told you so many times, you still don’t get it. You treat me like a shadow of your past, like a replacement for Jiang Yi, don’t you?”
Despite her anger, Jiang Yi didn’t grip her too tightly, careful not to hurt her.
She took another deep breath, watching as Jiang Sixian bit her lip, looking utterly pitiful. Then, word by word, she said, “Look at me. Really look at me.”
“The person in this body right now is me—not the sixteen-year-old Jiang Yi. If you got pregnant like this, that child would be mine and yours… mine and yours…”
Jiang Yi paused, restraining herself from saying something harsh. She suppressed her emotions and continued, “Even if the DNA is hers, that child would still be ours.”
“It would be from me holding you, touching you, entering you—not from her.”
“The one controlling this body is my soul, my consciousness—not hers.”
Jiang Yi tightened her grip on Jiang Sixian’s hand, leaning closer. “Can’t you tell the difference? The person you love is her, not me. Are you really sure you want to have a child with someone you don’t love?”
Jiang Sixian trembled as she looked at Jiang Yi’s restrained expression. Tears spilled from her eyes as she stared at her blankly. “But you are Jiang Yi.”
She couldn’t tell the difference—how could she? From the very beginning, she had known this was her lover, the dream of her youth, her Alpha.
There had only ever been one Jiang Yi. How could she possibly separate them?
Jiang Yi shuddered. Only now did she realize—in Jiang Sixian’s eyes, she was that “Jiang Yi.” The one who had lost her memories, not the soul from another world.
The person Jiang Sixian loved had always been that sixteen-year-old illusion. Even the affection directed at her now was nothing more than an extension of that love.
Jiang Yi stared blankly at the tears on Jiang Sixian’s face, unable to form a complete sentence. “You—”
The moment she spoke, she realized her voice was bitter and rough.
She had thought she wouldn’t care about this. Jiang Sixian was beautiful, an omega who matched her perfectly in bed. As an alpha, having such an amazing lover was something to brag about.
Even if she couldn’t have her heart, wasn’t having her body enough? Wasn’t it fine for them to each take what they wanted?
Being a stand-in lover wasn’t a bad deal for Jiang Yi, was it? Jiang Sixian was gorgeous, wealthy, came from a good family—if Jiang Yi were shameless, she could get so much from her, couldn’t she?
So why… why did it hurt so much? Why did her heart feel like it was being pricked by needles, aching relentlessly?
Ah… she had thought she only liked Jiang Sixian a little. But now she realized—she was completely, utterly fallen.
At this moment, Jiang Yi felt like she was tasting the bitterness of jealousy for the first time in her life.
Turns out, when she loved someone, she wasn’t carefree at all. She could even be driven mad with envy.
Strangely, Jiang Yi found herself calming down. She even began to entertain the absurd thought—what if she really was that sixteen-year-old Jiang Yi?
If that were the case, then even if she was jealous of herself, she could accept it.
But she was afraid she wasn’t. And if she wasn’t, she would spend the rest of her life trapped in the regret of unrequited love.
Jiang Yi’s chest heaved violently. She gripped Jiang Sixian’s hand, watching the tears on her face, and the moment her rationality returned, all she wanted to do was lean in and kiss those tears away.
So she did.
When her warm lips brushed against Jiang Sixian’s eyelashes, then her eyelids, Jiang Sixian clutched at Jiang Yi’s arms, tears streaming down her face.
She seemed to have lost control, crying uncontrollably.
Her sobs were stifled, as though years of sorrow were pouring out all at once. Jiang Yi had no choice but to pull Jiang Sixian into her arms, holding her close as she cried and whispered, “Jiang Yi… I missed you so much…”
“So much…”
“Why… why don’t you remember anything…?”
Her cries were filled with grief and confusion. Even though it was a crisp autumn day, Jiang Yi felt like she was drowning in a cold, winter rain—chilled to the bone.
She was lost too. She didn’t know if she was that Jiang Yi, didn’t know how much she might remember. The only thing she was certain of was that she loved Jiang Sixian.
For a moment, she even thought—maybe being Jiang Sixian’s stand-in lover wasn’t so bad.
It had nothing to do with pheromones, nothing to do with gender. She was sure—everything she felt was rooted in Jiang Sixian’s soul. She had truly fallen for her.
Jiang Yi held Jiang Sixian, listening to her weep as though releasing years of pent-up sorrow, and belatedly realized—Jiang Sixian’s mental state might not be entirely stable.
Jiang Yi’s disappearance had left deep scars. Even if Jiang Yi hadn’t known Jiang Sixian before, she could tell—Jiang Sixian’s behavior wasn’t that of a mentally healthy person.
Jiang Sixian’s visit to the hospital… might have been to see a doctor.
Jiang Yi’s heart ached with a mix of bitterness and pain. She was jealous of the person Jiang Sixian loved, but she also hurt for the woman crying in her arms.
With a sigh, Jiang Yi leaned down, kissing away Jiang Sixian’s tears as she soothed her. “Alright, alright… don’t cry. It’s my fault…”
“I won’t bring it up again…”
“I won’t mention it…”
She patiently kissed away every tear, brushing her lips over Jiang Sixian’s face before finally pressing them to her mouth.
Jiang Sixian parted her lips, accepting the kiss. Jiang Yi deepened it, pulling Jiang Sixian onto her lap and stroking her back to calm her trembling.
After a long while, Jiang Yi finally pulled away, wiping Jiang Sixian’s tears as she coaxed, “Don’t cry anymore. You won’t look pretty if you keep crying.”
Jiang Sixian looped her arms around Jiang Yi’s neck, sniffling as she asked tearfully, “Are you still mad?”
Jiang Yi soothed her. “No. The moment you cried, all my anger vanished.”
Jiang Sixian pressed further. “Then will you scold me again?”
Jiang Yi shook her head.
Jiang Sixian pushed her luck. “Then… will you break up with me over this?”
Jiang Yi thought for a moment. “Not for now.”
Jiang Sixian didn’t like that answer, pouting unhappily.
Jiang Yi immediately backpedaled. “No, no, we won’t break up. I won’t leave you.” She had surrendered—truly, completely surrendered this time.
Jiang Sixian bit her lip, gazing at her with teary eyes. “Jiang Yi… do you like me now?”
Jiang Yi’s heart skipped a beat. She didn’t answer. Instead, she wrapped her arms around Jiang Sixian’s waist and looked at her seriously. “Before I answer that, you answer one of my questions first.”
“Jiang Sixian, were you at the hospital to see a doctor? Is your mental state… not normal?”
“Are you… afraid I’ll leave?”
Jiang Yi paused before continuing, “You’re afraid I’ll die, aren’t you?”
The moment the words left her mouth, Jiang Sixian flung herself at her, trembling as she choked out, “Don’t… don’t say such scary things…”
“I don’t care if you don’t remember anything… I don’t care if you don’t love me… I don’t even care if you just see me as some random omega…”
She clung to Jiang Yi, her voice breaking. “But you can’t say that word… Don’t disappear again, Jiang Yi. Don’t leave me again…”
“I’ll die, Jiang Yi.”
Jiang Yi’s heart shattered. It ached with a sour, bitter pain. She held Jiang Sixian tightly, suddenly certain—if “Jiang Yi” vanished again, Jiang Sixian really might die.
She was so, so jealous… That person who had disappeared before turning eighteen, that youthful companion… Even if it might have been herself, she couldn’t help but burn with envy.
Author’s Note: Back when Jiang Yi first presented, Jiang Sixian: I’m so jealous, so jealous… Why wasn’t I among the omegas who could smell her pheromones?
