This was the first time Jiang Yi had kissed her since their reunion.
A kiss controlled by Jiang Yi was fierce and domineering. Jiang Sixian had no choice but to clutch at the fabric over Jiang Yi’s chest, forced to endure the alpha’s relentless demands.
After ravaging her lips for a moment, Jiang Yi suddenly released her and asked while holding her close, “What time is it now?”
Jiang Sixian didn’t understand her intentions, her eyes glistening with unshed tears as she panted lightly in Jiang Yi’s embrace. It took her a while to catch her breath before answering, “Two in the morning…”
“I called an ambulance. You were unconscious for several hours. The scans showed no intracranial issues, just a mild concussion…”
Jiang Yi’s heart ached when she saw the redness at the corners of Jiang Sixian’s eyes. She wondered how long Jiang Sixian had been crying—probably from the moment she woke up until now.
She suddenly remembered the psychiatric medication Jiang Sixian had been taking before and suspected her fragile mental state might be related to Jiang Yi’s six-year disappearance.
They’d already wasted six years. Jiang Yi couldn’t bear to lose another second—she needed Jiang Sixian to know she was truly back.
With this thought, Jiang Yi reached for the silk scarf around Jiang Sixian’s neck and tugged it loose.
Jiang Sixian, unsure of her intentions, instinctively shied away with rare bashfulness, calling her name in a trembling voice, “Jiang Yi…”
“This is a hospital…”
She thought Jiang Yi wanted to do that here, and despite everything, she still felt embarrassed about such things in this setting.
Jiang Yi easily undid the scarf, then pulled it over Jiang Sixian’s eyes and tied it securely behind her head. “Don’t move,” she ordered.
The moment Jiang Yi said “don’t move,” Jiang Sixian obediently nestled against her chest, not daring to stir. Seeing her like this, Jiang Yi finally understood—this was how Jiang Sixian had always behaved around her in the past.
Obedient. Devoted.
After securing the blindfold with a knot, Jiang Yi leaned down to kiss the corner of Jiang Sixian’s lips.
Deprived of sight, Jiang Sixian clutched at Jiang Yi’s collar with white-knuckled intensity, her voice laced with panic. “Jiang Yi, what are you doing?”
Jiang Yi slid off the bed, one arm supporting Jiang Sixian while she bent to slip on her shoes. “I’m taking you somewhere. Did you drive here? Is your car nearby?”
Jiang Sixian answered, “No, it’s still parked where we left it…”
Jiang Yi nodded and patted her pockets, relieved to find her keys still there. She grabbed her phone and keys, then scooped Jiang Sixian into her arms.
The sudden weightlessness made Jiang Sixian instinctively wrap her arms around Jiang Yi’s neck. “Jiang Yi… you’re not fully recovered yet, you shouldn’t—”
Jiang Yi stood effortlessly with Jiang Sixian in her arms and smiled. “I know my own body. Right now, there’s something more important. Hold on tight.”
Uncertain of Jiang Yi’s plans but trusting her completely, Jiang Sixian obediently curled against her chest. She could feel Jiang Yi carrying her out of the room, her body gently jostled with each step.
Worried about straining Jiang Yi, Jiang Sixian tentatively asked near her ear, “Am I… too heavy?”
Jiang Yi shook her head. “Not at all.” With her regular training, carrying someone like Jiang Sixian was effortless. To reassure her, Jiang Yi added, “If anything, you’re too light. You should eat more.”
Jiang Sixian murmured in response, “I do eat properly.” She tightened her arms around Jiang Yi’s neck and whispered, “If you prefer someone plumper, I can gain weight.”
Jiang Yi didn’t reply, simply pressing a kiss to her forehead instead.
They soon reached the elevator, which Jiang Yi opened with her elbow before stepping inside. Jiang Sixian grew restless, gripping the back of Jiang Yi’s collar. “Jiang Yi, where are we going? Please take off the blindfold… let me see you.”
Jiang Yi replied, “You’ll know when we get there. Just bear with it a little longer—I’ll remove it soon.”
Even though she knew Jiang Yi was holding her, the inability to see Jiang Yi’s face made her uneasy. She inhaled Jiang Yi’s scent and confessed, “Not being able to see you… makes me scared.”
Jiang Yi soothed her, “Don’t be afraid,” and deliberately released a hint of her pheromones to comfort Jiang Sixian in the darkness.
The familiar scent calmed Jiang Sixian’s nerves slightly.
Jiang Yi carried her downstairs and hailed a taxi outside the hospital, heading back to the shopping mall where they’d left their car earlier.
Once they arrived, Jiang Yi found their vehicle and carefully placed Jiang Sixian in the passenger seat.
Sitting blindfolded, Jiang Sixian tilted her head up anxiously. “Jiang Yi… can I take this off now?”
Jiang Yi leaned over to buckle her seatbelt. After securing it, she paused to study Jiang Sixian’s face under the neon lights filtering through the windows.
The blindfold revealed only her delicate nose and soft, cherry-like lips. Jiang Yi’s gaze lingered on her mouth before drifting lower to the exposed collarbones and hint of cleavage visible through her loosened collar.
Swiping her thumb across Jiang Sixian’s lower lip, Jiang Yi felt desire surge through her—but she restrained herself. Instead, she simply stroked Jiang Sixian’s lips soothingly and promised, “Just a little longer… we’re almost there.”
With that, she shut the passenger door firmly and moved to the driver’s seat. She handed a corner of her jacket to Jiang Sixian to hold before starting the car and driving toward the outskirts of the city.
Clutching the fabric in her hands, surrounded by darkness, Jiang Sixian listened to the quiet night wind outside the window, uncertain of their destination. Yet knowing Jiang Yi was taking her somewhere filled her with inexplicable peace.
Still, she couldn’t help asking again, “Jiang Yi, where are we going?”
Jiang Yi kept her eyes on the road ahead, watching the headlights cut through the thick darkness. Following the path from her memories, she drove them back to where they’d parted six years ago.
Softly, she answered, “You’ll understand when we arrive.”
Jiang Sixian knew Jiang Yi’s personality—if she said to wait, then wait she must. She nodded slightly and whispered, “Okay.”
But the night felt vast, the silence around them almost suffocating. Nervous, Jiang Sixian tugged at Jiang Yi’s jacket and changed the subject. “Jiang Yi, does your head still hurt?”
Jiang Yi shook her head. “Not anymore.”
Jiang Sixian pressed on anxiously, “Any aftereffects? We should go back to the hospital tomorrow for another checkup.”
Jiang Yi considered this before admitting, “There might be one aftereffect.”
Jiang Sixian stiffened. “W-what kind? Dizziness? Or is something else wrong?” She bit her lip in frustration. “It’s all my fault, every time it’s because of me—”
Jiang Yi cut her off. “It’s not your fault. I did it willingly.”
Keeping her eyes on the dark road illuminated by their headlights, Jiang Yi felt courage well up inside her. She remembered that night six years ago—how she’d carried Jiang Sixian through the darkness like a fugitive running for her life.
Yet in the end, neither of them had truly escaped that night. She’d left both Jiang Sixian and herself behind at that crossroads.
Now, after all this time, Jiang Yi was determined to reclaim what they’d lost.
Her grip on the steering wheel tightened as she spoke calmly, “Jiang Sixian… I’ve been remembering things from long ago…”
Jiang Sixian’s heart skipped a beat. She clutched Jiang Yi’s jacket tighter, voice tinged with hope. “What things?”
Jiang Yi answered quietly, “Our first meeting.”
Jiang Sixian’s breath caught. She held onto Jiang Yi’s clothes, waiting for her next words with bated breath.
Jiang Yi, still not looking at her, continued hoarsely, “Not the one at the hotel… but in the classroom.”
Jiang Sixian’s entire body jerked in shock, her hands flying up to remove the blindfold. Jiang Yi, though not looking, sensed the movement and pressed a hand over Jiang Sixian’s covered eyes. Her voice was rough with emotion. “Don’t move.”
“Listen to me. Let me finish.”
After taking a deep breath to steady herself, Jiang Yi continued, “That was the first time I’d ever seen such a beautiful girl…”
“If you hadn’t been Auntie Ning’s daughter, I would’ve fallen for you immediately. All that nonsense I said at the hospital about our first meeting—about you violating me—were lies.”
“When I realized the nature of our relationship, I drew a line between us. Because I knew if I didn’t, I’d cross it eventually.”
“From the very beginning, I understood how captivating you were. But I couldn’t—I couldn’t bear to hurt Auntie Ning.”
“I knew how much she loved Qionghua… and how much she loved you. And back then, I never planned to stay with the Jiang family for long.”
Jiang Yi’s voice grew thick with emotion as she asked, “Jiang Sixian, do you understand what I’m saying?”
Behind the silk blindfold, Jiang Sixian’s tears flowed freely. She nodded, unable to speak.
Jiang Yi took another shaky breath. “And that day in the car… when I got angry at you, it wasn’t because you broke our agreement…”
“It was because I thought you’d taken such a huge risk… just to have a child with Jiang Yi.”
“I thought you loved her deeply. And that I was just… a substitute. I was… jealous.”
“Yes. I was jealous. Jealous that the person you loved wasn’t me.”
“Just like you said—that night at the banquet, I only released pheromones for you. It wasn’t just my body remembering you… it was because from the first glance, I’d already been drawn to you.”
“Jiang Sixian, I’ve always liked you.”
Jiang Sixian nodded again, tears streaming down her cheeks unchecked.
Jiang Yi fell silent after that, driving for what felt like an eternity before finally stopping the car at the three-way intersection where they’d separated years ago.
The sounds of insects and night birds filled the air around them, the strong night wind drying Jiang Sixian’s tears before they could fall.
Jiang Yi stepped out of the car and carefully lifted Jiang Sixian into her arms, carrying her to the exact spot where they’d parted. After making sure of her footing, she gently set Jiang Sixian down amidst the grass.
The moment her feet touched the vegetation, Jiang Sixian recognized their location. In a panic, she grabbed Jiang Yi’s arm. “Jiang Yi—!”
Jiang Yi knelt before her, soothing her with a quiet, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Then she reached up and untied the blindfold, smiling through her own tears. “It’s okay now… I’m here…”
Jiang Sixian looked up through her watery vision, through the dim lighting, at Jiang Yi standing before her.
The night wind rushed between them, the sounds of insects and birds deafening in the empty wilderness. For a moment, Jiang Sixian felt transported back to six years ago. She gripped Jiang Yi’s hand tightly, tears pouring down her face. “Jiang Yi… Jiang Yi… don’t—”
Don’t go. Don’t leave me alone again.
Tears spilled from Jiang Yi’s eyes as she gazed at Jiang Sixian’s devastated expression. She smiled through them.
Tasting salt on her lips, Jiang Yi reached up to wipe Jiang Sixian’s tears away with her thumb. “Don’t cry,” she murmured.
“I’m not leaving.”
“Jiang Sixian, it’s over now. I’m here to take you home.”
They’d escaped—escaped from the nightmare of six years ago. Staring at Jiang Yi through her tears, Jiang Sixian suddenly understood—the dream of her youth had finally returned to claim her.
With a sob, Jiang Sixian threw herself into Jiang Yi’s arms, burying her face against Jiang Yi’s chest as she wept openly. “Jiang Yi… I missed you so much… so much…”
In her dreams. In reality. Every moment, every day and night.
Jiang Yi cradled her head, pressing a kiss to her hair as she whispered, “I missed you too… Jiang Sixian.”
“And there’s something else I never told you. From long, long ago… I’ve always loved you.”
“Loved you so much that even knowing it could kill me… I couldn’t stop my heart from wanting you.”
Her voice rough with emotion, Jiang Yi kissed Jiang Sixian’s forehead and spoke the words through her tears:
“Jiang Sixian, I love you.”
