Jiang Sixian had a meeting to attend today. After leaving the hospital, Jiang Yi drove her to the venue.
On the way, Jiang Yi brought up Xu Meng’s situation and discussed it with Jiang Sixian: “Yuncheng has better medical facilities, which would be more suitable for Xiao Meng’s check-ups. Jiang Sixian, do you think if Sister Yu Yu had a job here, she might consider staying with Xiao Meng?”
This was Jiang Yi’s personal wish. She genuinely regarded Xu Meng and Yu Yu as family and wanted to be able to look after them regularly.
Their hometown had become a place of sorrow for them. Staying in Yuncheng to build a new life would be better for everyone.
Jiang Sixian, sitting in the passenger seat, smiled at this. She turned her head to look at Jiang Yi: “Jiang Yi, do you know? Sometimes I think we might be kindred spirits.”
Jiang Yi was puzzled: “Why do you say that all of a sudden?”
Jiang Sixian slowly bloomed into a smile: “Because I was thinking the same thing—how wonderful it would be if Xiao Meng and Sister Yu Yu could stay in Yuncheng.”
Jiang Yi chuckled: “Then we really are kindred spirits.”
Jiang Sixian gazed at her tenderly: “And I’ve already found her a job.”
Jiang Yi was stunned. She turned to look at Jiang Sixian and asked: “Was it this noon? I thought you two went out to chat about something else. It was about work?”
Jiang Yi was overjoyed. She reached out and grabbed Jiang Sixian’s hand, saying excitedly: “Xianxian, you’re really the best.”
“What kind of job is it? Can you tell me? Has Sister Yu Yu agreed?”
Jiang Sixian briefly explained: “Sister Yu Yu will most likely accept. She has a secretary certification, and Chen Wanzhou recently needed a new assistant, so I recommended her.”
“Don’t worry, Chen Wanzhou has always paid well and is very accommodating to her subordinates. Sister Yu Yu will do just fine working for her.”
Jiang Yi understood and the more she thought about it, the more she felt Jiang Sixian’s arrangement was perfect. Originally, she had considered asking Yu Yu if she wanted to partner in running a goose farm or even begging Jiang Qionghua for help to secure Yu Yu a suitable high-paying job.
But after much deliberation, she felt such assistance might not be what Yu Yu truly wanted.
Jiang Sixian, however, was different. There was no bad blood between her and Yu Yu, and Yu Yu wouldn’t resent her for it. Accepting Jiang Sixian’s help would just mean owing her a favor.
Moreover, Jiang Sixian had only introduced a job opportunity—she hadn’t arranged for Yu Yu to be directly hired by Chen Wanzhou. Whether Yu Yu got the job would ultimately depend on her own abilities.
This approach was both considerate and dignified, putting everyone at ease.
In this regard, Jiang Yi felt Jiang Sixian was just like Ning Wenying—exceptionally clever. As she looked at Jiang Sixian sitting in the passenger seat, she couldn’t help but want to pick her up and kiss her.
The car soon arrived at the meeting venue. After parking, Jiang Yi immediately reached out, pulled Jiang Sixian into her arms, cupped her face, and planted a firm kiss on her lips: “Jiang Sixian, you’re just too brilliant!”
It wasn’t that they were kindred spirits—it was that Jiang Sixian understood her so well. Whatever she wanted to do, Jiang Sixian had already anticipated it, making everything go smoothly.
Jiang Sixian shot her a mock glare and wiped her lips with her fingers, murmuring: “Look at you, you’ve smudged my lipstick. How am I supposed to face people now?”
Her tone was half-teasing, half-complaining, leaving Jiang Yi utterly defenseless. Jiang Yi stroked her lips and grinned: “Then let me reapply your lipstick, okay?”
Jiang Sixian nodded: “Mm.”
With her consent, Jiang Yi took out a lipstick from her makeup bag and carefully reapplied it for her.
Jiang Sixian checked her reflection in a small mirror, satisfied with her freshly painted lips: “Very good, you did a great job.”
She closed the mirror, leaned close to Jiang Yi’s ear, and gently nibbled on her earlobe: “From now on, before we go out, you’ll do my lipstick for me, okay?”
Jiang Yi hugged her and replied: “Okay.”
Even if it wasn’t out of gratitude, Jiang Yi would gladly do this for her every day.
After the surgery, Xu Meng showed no signs of rejection and gradually recovered. Yu Yu finally made up her mind and dialed the number Jiang Sixian had given her to prepare for the interview.
Jiang Sixian had already informed Chen Wanzhou in advance, so although Yu Yu still had to go through the standard screening process, she eventually secured the position.
During her six-month probation, the company even provided Yu Yu with a small apartment, solving her housing concerns.
Once she got the job, Yu Yu immediately called Jiang Sixian to share the good news.
Over the phone, Jiang Sixian was equally delighted. After congratulating her, she asked if Yu Yu planned to stay in Yuncheng.
Yu Yu hummed in agreement and said: “Xiao Meng and I have discussed it. Yuncheng is better for her—both for monitoring her condition and for giving her a fresh start.”
“So, Xianxian, I’d like to ask another favor. Could you recommend a good school in Yuncheng for Xiao Meng? I want to transfer her.”
Jiang Sixian agreed right away. She asked for Yu Yu’s current address and even offered to help with the move.
Yu Yu laughed: “Xiao Meng and I don’t have much to move—we’ve already settled in.” She then gave the address, and Jiang Sixian promised to find a good school nearby for Xu Meng.
Yu Yu was deeply grateful.
After this, Yu Yu hesitantly added: “I owe this job to you. I mentioned treating you to a meal before—I hope you’ll accept.”
Jiang Sixian quickly replied: “Of course.”
Yu Yu asked if Jiang Sixian had any restaurant preferences so she could make a reservation.
Jiang Sixian smiled: “My health isn’t great, so I don’t eat out much. Sister Yu Yu, you know how to cook, right? If you’re willing to make me a home-cooked meal, that would be perfect.”
Yu Yu paused, then chuckled: “Alright. I can cook—just tell me what you’d like.”
Jiang Sixian didn’t hold back and listed several home-style dishes.
Yu Yu listened and assured her she could make them. After a brief silence, she added: “How about this Saturday? It’ll be Xiao Meng’s discharge day. Jiang Yi will be there too—I’ll cook for all of you.”
Though Jiang Sixian had said she wouldn’t bring Jiang Yi, Yu Yu’s invitation changed everything.
Jiang Sixian smiled softly and after a moment, replied: “Okay.”
On Saturday, Xu Meng was discharged as scheduled. That day, Jiang Sixian had to attend a banquet, so Jiang Yi went alone.
While helping pack at the hospital, Yu Yu called out awkwardly to Jiang Yi’s busy figure: “Xiao Yi…”
Jiang Yi turned around: “Yes, sister-in-law?”
Yu Yu stood by Xu Meng’s bed, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear shyly: “There’s something… I don’t know if Xianxian has mentioned it to you…”
Jiang Yi paused, guessing it was about the job in Yuncheng. Her heart swelled with anticipation. Pretending ignorance, she asked curiously: “What is it?”
Yu Yu smiled and said: “Xianxian introduced me to a job here in Yuncheng.”
“Since Xiao Meng needs follow-ups and Yuncheng has better medical and educational resources, I decided to give it a try.”
“If I passed the interview, we’d stay here permanently.”
Jiang Yi’s eyes lit up with joy: “That’s wonderful, sister-in-law! How did it go?”
Yu Yu nodded: “I passed. I’ve finalized my start date and found a place to live.”
“Once the new term starts, I’ll transfer Xiao Meng to a school here.”
After saying this, she looked at Jiang Yi’s stunned expression and added: “So, Xiao Yi, we’re not going back to our hometown today—we’re heading to my new place in Yuncheng.”
Jiang Yi was floored by the news. She glanced between Yu Yu and Xu Meng, hardly believing it: “Really?”
Xu Meng, leaning against the headboard, beamed at her: “Of course! I’m not going back—I’ll get to see you all the time now!”
Jiang Yi stared at them, overwhelmed: “I… this is just… this is amazing! We have to celebrate!”
She fumbled for her phone in excitement: “I’ll book a table… right now…”
Yu Yu stopped her with a laugh: “Xiao Yi, calm down. If anyone’s treating, it should be me—to you and Xianxian.”
“Let’s go home first. I’ll cook a proper meal to thank you both.”
She glanced at Jiang Yi and added softly: “I’ve already told Xianxian. Once she’s done today, she’ll come over.”
“But if you’re worried, you can go pick her up.”
Jiang Yi suppressed her excitement and steadied herself: “No, it’s fine. She has people with her—she’ll get here safely.”
“You’re right, sister-in-law. Let me take you home first.”
She hurried through the rest of the packing and drove them to Yu Yu’s new place using the provided address.
On the way, Jiang Yi asked about Yu Yu’s job. Reassured it wasn’t too difficult, she silently thanked Jiang Sixian again.
That evening, Yu Yu prepared a lavish dinner to express her gratitude to Jiang Yi and Jiang Sixian.
Jiang Yi drank a little too much white wine and was practically floating by the time they left late at night.
Jiang Sixian helped her downstairs, with Yu Yu following anxiously behind.
In the darkness, the two women guided Jiang Yi into the passenger seat. Drunk, Jiang Yi leaned against the window and looked up at Yu Yu pitifully: “Sister-in-law… can I visit Xiao Meng often from now on?”
Yu Yu glanced at Jiang Sixian beside her and nodded: “Of course.”
“Bring Xianxian with you next time. I’ll cook for you again.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yi finally relaxed. She pressed a hand over her eyes, voice choked: “Thank you, sister-in-law.”
She knew—Yu Yu resented her, but because of Sister Xu, couldn’t bring herself to hate her completely.
This woman, just like her wife, had also come to see her as a little sister.
