Chapter 37: I’ll Help You

 

The setting sun cast a warm golden light across the grass, and the clouds on the horizon were multi-colored.

Obstacle course running, weighted running—Shen Bumian ran for an hour and a half.

Finally, completely drained, he collapsed onto the ground. He closed his eyes, panting. A moment later, he squinted his eyes to gaze at the blood-red setting sun in the distance.

A figure stood in front of him, blocking the golden light.

Shen Bumian looked up and met Qin Luzhi’s somewhat complicated gaze. Shen Bumian couldn’t understand that look.

“What are you doing here?”

The moment he spoke, Shen Bumian himself was taken aback. His voice was a bit hoarse, but not unpleasant.

Qin Luzhi stared at him intently for another moment, then averted his gaze. He twisted open a bottle cap and handed him a bottle of water.

Shen Bumian hadn’t had a drink all afternoon. Now, suddenly drinking this water, he felt it had a hint of sweetness.

He took a few more sips, finally soothing the dryness in his throat.

Seeing that he had recovered a little, Qin Luzhi knelt down in front of him and handed Shen Bumian a wet wipe.

Shen Bumian’s face was covered in sweat, his hair was half-damp, and a blush had appeared on his cheeks.

If it weren’t for Shen Bumian’s pale lips at this moment, Qin Luzhi would have thought that this version of Shen Bumian had an added charm.

Shen Bumian wiped the sweat from his face and neck, then saw Qin Luzhi take out a nutrient solution.

He twisted open the glass tube and brought it to his lips, careful not to touch them.

Shen Bumian slightly opened his mouth, allowing Qin Luzhi to pour the nutrient solution in. The base of his tongue tasted bitter. So disgusting, Shen Bumian thought.

Only then did Qin Luzhi slowly speak, “Just passing by.”

Shen Bumian realized Qin Luzhi was answering his earlier question. Passing by? What a coincidence.

“Oh.”

Shen Bumian fell silent again. He was so tired. For a moment, the air became quiet once more.

What Qin Luzhi didn’t say was that he had arrived long ago. He had received a message from Guan Zhuo as soon as his class was over.

Guan Zhuo had mysteriously said that Shen Bumian might need help. He had replied with a question mark, but Guan Zhuo had vanished as if he had evaporated and didn’t reply.

So he asked Chen Hebin what class Zhou Yizhou and Shen Bumian had, and learned they were at the training grounds.

He came over as soon as his class ended. From a distance, he saw that Shen Bumian was the only one on the training ground. He stood there for a while, then started running.

It was a simple daily training routine for an Alpha, something even a Beta could complete easily, yet he saw Shen Bumian’s pace slow down not long after he started.

But Shen Bumian didn’t stop. He clumsily and stubbornly ran past one obstacle after another.

The evening glow and Shen Bumian complemented each other, his shadow stretching infinitely long. For as long as Shen Bumian ran, he watched from the entrance of the training ground.

Finally, he watched as Shen Bumian’s steps slowed, and he casually walked half a lap.

He then went to a nearby small shop and bought a pack of wet wipes, a bottle of water, and a nutrient solution.

They were all very small items, yet Qin Luzhi felt their heavy weight in his hand.

He quickened his pace back to the training ground and found Shen Bumian leaning against a pillar.

The omega was filled with exhaustion, his eyelashes fluttering. Qin Luzhi could clearly see the frequency of each flutter. His own heart was beating a little faster.

He walked closer, casting a shadow over Shen Bumian, and knelt down to hand him water and wipes.

Looking at Shen Bumian’s pale lips, he felt a tug in his heart.

An unknown emotion flashed in his eyes. The emotionally detached Alpha didn’t know that it was called heartache.

He didn’t want to tell Shen Bumian that he had been watching him the whole time, so he subconsciously said he was just passing by.

He looked at the omega, who seemed to show no emotion, as if he had believed his explanation.

Qin Luzhi’s fingers unconsciously tightened around the empty nutrient solution tube. His voice was very soft, as if he were afraid of startling the fragile beauty who was resting with his eyes closed.

“Shen Bumian, let me train with you. Call me when you have your extra training sessions, is that okay?”

Shen Bumian finally lifted his gaze and met Qin Luzhi’s eyes.

The pitch-black pupils made Shen Bumian’s heart palpitate a little. He didn’t know why his heart rate was still so fast after resting for a while.

He saw the heartache that unconsciously revealed itself in Qin Luzhi’s eyes and was a bit puzzled. Why would Qin Luzhi feel heartache for him?

“You found out?”

He knew that Qin Luzhi had probably learned about his extra training plan from somewhere. “Won’t it be a bother for you?”

Qin Luzhi shook his head firmly. “It’s no bother. So, is it okay?”

After a long moment, Shen Bumian nodded, agreeing to call Qin Luzhi each time.

He couldn’t quite explain why he had refused without hesitation when Guan Zhuo offered to find someone to help him.

But looking into Qin Luzhi’s eyes, he couldn’t bring himself to say no.

Qin Luzhi breathed a sigh of relief. The corners of his mouth lifted, and a smile flashed by, but it was still caught by Shen Bumian. He was momentarily stunned.

So, this is how handsome Qin Luzhi looks when he smiles?

The sky gradually darkened, and the curtain of night was drawn.

Shen Bumian’s stomach let out a few inopportune growls. He smiled, a little embarrassed. “I’m a bit hungry.”

Qin Luzhi didn’t realize just how gentle his gaze was. He helped Shen Bumian up. “I’ll take you to eat.”

Shen Bumian thought for a moment. “I want to eat a big meal. I still have to train tonight.”

Qin Luzhi agreed to everything. “Okay.”

So, Qin Luzhi took Shen Bumian out to eat. He chose a high-end restaurant very close to the school.

He thought it would be best to eat quickly, otherwise, Shen Bumian’s strength might give out.

Shen Bumian ordered a lot of meat dishes, all of them spicy. Qin Luzhi had no objections.

Before their order was ready, a server brought two steaks to their table. Shen Bumian stopped them in time. “Excuse me, we didn’t order this.”

The server glanced at Qin Luzhi and said to Shen Bumian with a smile, “It’s like this, our restaurant has prepared many portions of steak to give to each table of guests for free. Your order will still be a little while, so you can have this to tide you over.”

Shen Bumian hadn’t expected the service at this restaurant to be so thoughtful. He definitely couldn’t get full just by eating steak alone.

He was already so hungry his stomach felt like it was stuck to his back. Since that was the case, he wouldn’t be polite. After saying thank you, he picked up his knife and fork.

But then, Qin Luzhi from across the table took his portion and began cutting it into small pieces for him. Shen Bumian subconsciously said, “I can do it myself.”

Qin Luzhi’s hands didn’t stop. His movements were very elegant, and Shen Bumian found himself staring, mesmerized again.

He didn’t even hear what Qin Luzhi said. By the time he came back to his senses, Qin Luzhi had already finished cutting.

“There, eat up.”

Shen Bumian withdrew his gaze and lowered his head to eat. “Thank you.”

Only then did Qin Luzhi start to cut his own portion. After he finished, he watched Shen Bumian from across the table.

He didn’t start eating his own steak until after Shen Bumian had finished his and felt like he didn’t want any more.

Shen Bumian didn’t understand why. Qin Luzhi had only taken two bites when their main dishes arrived.

The aroma of the food instantly filled the entire private room. Shen Bumian’s mouth was watering so much that tears were about to fall from the corners of his lips. Qin Luzhi found this a little amusing.

“Eat slowly. It’s all yours.”

Shen Bumian nodded haphazardly without listening carefully, his mouth not stopping for a moment.

This time he was truly starving and ate very quickly. As soon as he swallowed the meat in his mouth, he would pick up another piece and put it in.

Afraid that he would choke, Qin Luzhi quickly poured a glass of water and placed it by Shen Bumian’s hand.

Qin Luzhi wasn’t hungry; Shen Bumian ate most of the food.

When he went to pay the bill, he was told that Qin Luzhi had already paid. Shen Bumian thought, he’s accompanying me for training and even treating me to dinner.

“Qin Luzhi, let me treat you to dinner next time. No refusing.”

“Okay.”
