Poaching the Family Chef

Chapter 49: Poaching the Family Chef

For the past two days, Qin Luzhi had been intentionally or unintentionally appearing in front of Shen Bumian, trying to make his presence felt.

If someone had told him in the past that he would resort to such childish behavior, he would have definitely punched that person. Yet now, he had to admit that he was no different from any other Alpha.

Shen Bumian had just finished class and was still at his desk when a classmate approached him, wiggling their eyebrows.

“Shen Meiren, Senior Qin is here to see you again.”

Shen Bumian paused his movements and, ignoring the classmate’s teasing gaze, looked towards the doorway. The tall and slender Alpha was standing by the window, a picturesque sight in himself.

No matter the time or place, Qin Luzhi always managed to attract a lot of attention. Although everyone knew he was there for Shen Bumian, many omegas in the class still stole glances at him.

Some of them quietly blushed as they looked. Shen Bumian thought to himself that Qin Luzhi was truly worthy of his title as the empire’s dream Alpha.

He started walking towards Qin Luzhi. Zhou Yizhou had already run off as soon as class ended, telling Shen Bumian he had plans. Needless to say, his date was with Chen Hebin.

Qin Luzhi subtly moved a little closer to the omega beside him, his eyes filled with a certain expectation. “Want to get lunch together?”

Shen Bumian was stunned. Qin Luzhi had crossed half the campus building just to ask him if he wanted to eat together? It was truly bizarre.

Shen Bumian pointed to the optical computer in his hand. “You can just send me a message next time. You don’t have to run all the way over here to ask me.”

Qin Luzhi coolly averted his gaze. How could he say that he just wanted to see Shen Bumian? Nevertheless, he nodded and waited for Shen Bumian’s answer.

Shen Bumian agreed, and the two walked towards the cafeteria together. Shen Bumian quite liked the food at the First Military Academy’s cafeteria.

Especially window number fourteen. There were always few people there, and the taste of the food perfectly suited his palate.

It was as if the window was tailor-made for him.

Shen Bumian had observed it for several days. That window indeed had very few people every time; it probably wasn’t a coincidence. That’s why he was never in a hurry to eat every day.

He didn’t have to worry about queuing or the food running out. Naturally, Qin Luzhi, who ate with him every day, wasn’t in a hurry either.

Shen Bumian found a place to sit while Qin Luzhi went to get their food. After a moment’s thought, he felt like having some watermelon juice and went to that same window.

But as soon as he got close, he heard the auntie serving the food call out, “Second Young Master.”

Shen Bumian’s mind was full of questions. “What ‘Second Young Master’? Auntie, could I have a glass of watermelon juice, please?”

After speaking, he remained standing at the window. Qin Luzhi had frozen the moment he heard the young man’s voice, but he recovered in an instant.

He took the food tray and glanced sideways. “She probably recognizes me, so she used a respectful title.”

Shen Bumian nodded without thinking much of it. The Qin family’s military standing was no joke.

It could be said that everyone in the empire knew of them, so it wasn’t strange that someone would recognize Qin Luzhi as the second young master of the Qin family.

After Shen Bumian left, he didn’t notice Qin Luzhi giving the auntie a look and reminding her in a low voice, “You don’t need to address me like that in the future. At the military academy, I am just an ordinary student.”

That auntie was a beta. No one knew that she was the Qin family’s private chef; people in the cafeteria just thought she was a new employee.

She had always done a good job at the Qin residence. However, some time ago, she was assigned a new job by the Second Young Master: to be a chef at the First Military Academy.

When the Second Young Master first approached her, she thought she was being fired. At that time, Qin Luzhi was wearing casual pajamas, yet his aura was not the least bit softened.

“You don’t need to work here anymore.”

She thought she had done something to displease the Second Young Master and immediately apologized, hoping for another chance.

But somehow, she ended up here, with the Second Young Master even promising her a higher salary.

She had also notified Mr. Gu, whose eyes seemed to fill with curiosity, and he said to let him be. So, she agreed to the Second Young Master’s request.

Later, Mr. Qin and the Eldest Young Master had also sought her out. After learning it was the Second Young Master’s idea, both of them were so exasperated they laughed. At that moment, she thought the Second Young Master really had a knack for making people angry.

It wasn’t until her first day of work, when she saw the Second Young Master following behind an omega, tirelessly getting him food and drinks and even wiping his table, that her eyes filled with utter disbelief.

The omega boy was a little taller than the average omega, but similarly slender and more beautiful than most people.

A beauty that transcended gender, exquisite and stunning.

She was dumbfounded. She discovered that the Second Young Master would give her a menu every day, and that the boy always liked the dishes from her window.

It dawned on her. So, the Second Young Master was doing all of this for that omega boy.

She also felt a sense of relief. Having been with the Qin family for many years, she knew of Qin Luzhi’s coldness—a coldness that was almost inhuman. It was an innate psychological flaw of his.

She had always thought the Second Young Master’s indifference would be his undoing, but now, she could finally see a touch of humanity in him.

Qin Luzhi was unaware of the long train of thought his family’s auntie was having. He frowned as he watched the omega in front of him pick the cloves of garlic out of his dish, silently making a mental note that Shen Bumian disliked these ingredients.

On his optical computer, the family group chat was buzzing nonstop. Qin Yang was frantically looking for him.

[The Great Beauty Shen is My Wife: Qin Luzhi, get out here!]

[The Great Beauty Shen is My Wife: You’d better give me an explanation!]

[The Great Beauty Shen is My Wife: Didn’t you say you’d find a new auntie?! Where is she!!!]

[The Great Beauty Shen is My Wife: Father and I have been drinking nutritional supplements for days. I don’t care, you have to solve this for me today!!!]

[The Great Beauty Shen is My Wife: Stop playing dead! Or I’m not done with you!]

The group chat only had the four members of the Qin family. Qin Yang and Qin Zui happened to be returning home these past few days, only to find the family auntie gone. When they learned it was Qin Luzhi’s doing, they didn’t say much at first.

But ever since Gu Yixi told them the reason behind Qin Luzhi’s actions, Qin Yang had been prodding Qin Luzhi from time to time.

It wasn’t that Qin Yang couldn’t find a new auntie for the family himself, but he was busy with work during the day and would always forget. The same went for Qin Zui.

So, he decided to just bother Qin Luzhi. However, Qin Luzhi had been so preoccupied with Shen Bumian these past few days, and since he wasn’t eating at home, he had completely forgotten about the matter.

Gu Yixi watched the drama unfold from the sidelines. In any case, he ate at the school, and the teachers’ meals were very good. He wasn’t picky.

The result was that every time Qin Yang and Qin Zui returned home, they found the huge house empty and dark, with nothing in the refrigerator.

It was already too late to cook, so they had to resort to drinking nutritional supplements.

Qin Luzhi looked at Qin Yang, who was stirring up trouble whenever he had a spare moment. He thought to himself that it was his fault to begin with, so he endured it and didn’t reply.

But with all this time on his hands, Qin Yang could have clearly spent it finding a chef himself. Qin Luzhi let out a noncommittal “Heh.”

He decisively muted Qin Yang and decided to wash his hands of the matter. After all, he could still eat the food cooked by the family auntie.

Shen Bumian looked up at Qin Luzhi, not understanding what was happening. Qin Luzhi calmly turned off the vibration on his optical computer. “Just spam communications from product promotions.”

Shen Bumian nodded in understanding. He had received those before; they were indeed very annoying.

He took a couple of bites of rice. “You can adjust the settings on your optical computer. Then you won’t receive these kinds of messages and calls anymore.”

Qin Luzhi handed his optical computer to Shen Bumian and asked him to help with the settings, a smile in his eyes. He still couldn’t help but raise a fist to cover his mouth as the corners of his lips turned up.
