Extra 8: Campus Life 2
In the office, Professor Yang strolled slowly to his desk, cradling a thermos. He looked up and was surprised to see Professor Li next to him: “Hey, Old Li, don’t you have a class this morning?”
Professor Li, an old professor with slightly greying temples, took a sip of tea and calmly replied, “I had a student teach it.”
Professor Yang: “A student? Can those postgraduate students of yours handle it?”
Professor Li: “What kind of talk is that? Xiao Qin is quite good.”
“Xiao… Qin?” Professor Yang paused, then suddenly gasped in surprise: “You mean President Qin of Rongchao?”
Professor Li nodded.
Professor Yang mused, “If it’s him, then there’s no problem. We’re about theory; he’s about practice. But…”
He suddenly grew curious and asked, “You can order him around?”
Professor Li was quite pleased with himself, humming, “Of course. He called me this morning, offering to substitute my class, so I just notified the academic affairs office.”
Professor Yang was even more amazed: “I didn’t expect President Qin to be so humble.”
Then he couldn’t help but wonder, “What do you think President Qin is thinking? With his wealth, why is he still studying for an in-service postgraduate degree at our school? The key is that he’s not just putting on a show; he actually comes to class. Are bosses so idle these days?”
Professor Li held his thermos, looking calm and composed: “What’s so strange about that? Live and learn. Entrepreneurs also need to improve their knowledge base; otherwise, if they’re cheated and go bankrupt, they won’t even know how it happened.”
“That’s true,” Professor Yang sighed. “Years ago, there was a CEO of a company who suffered a loss in a merger case due to his lack of legal knowledge. Someone exploited a loophole, and his lifelong foundation was gone.”
After saying that, he exclaimed and continued, “But I remember President Qin graduated from X University in Country E, and he was even the top scorer in the college entrance exam that year. He wouldn’t suffer from a lack of education. Why would he suddenly want to pursue an in-service postgraduate degree?”
Professor Li pondered for a moment, then said, “Perhaps he admires my academic prowess.”
Professor Yang: “…”
Professor Li: “Hey, don’t give me that look. He said if it weren’t for the fact that he’s my student, he’d definitely hire me as a consultant for his company.”
Professor Yang: “…”
“You’ve certainly got a good student,” Professor Yang said enviously.

In the large lecture hall, Ye Rongxu finally endured two classes and quickly stood up, pulling Xiao Pang, wanting to slip away.
After class, Qin Chaoyan was surrounded by a group of students asking questions. He looked up, his gaze sweeping over the crowd, and saw Ye Rongxu trying to sneak away, hunching his back. He suddenly called out to him, “That student over there, the one in the beige down jacket.”
Whoosh!
All eyes converged on them.
There weren’t many students wearing beige down jackets, and Ye Rongxu, due to his appearance, was particularly eye-catching. Furthermore, with Qin Chaoyan’s gaze directing them, everyone knew immediately who he was referring to.
Ye Rongxu’s movements instantly froze. Meanwhile, Xiao Pang whispered, “Hey, that handsome teacher seems to be talking about you?”
Ye Rongxu, of course, knew he was the one being addressed.
He secretly gritted his teeth, turned around with a forced smile, his eyes like tiny knives piercing Qin Chaoyan.
Qin Chaoyan’s expression was normal, utterly serious: “Come help me carry some things.”
Then he addressed the students around him: “For the remaining questions, you can email me. I’ll reply with answers via email.”
He then gave them Professor Li’s email address.
Xiao Pang knew that his roommate had a delicate constitution, especially disliking crowds. Normally, when coming to class, he wouldn’t even take the elevator if it was crowded in the teaching building.
Seeing so many students around the podium, he quickly raised his hand and said, “Teacher, I’ll help you carry them.”
Unexpectedly, before the “teacher” could speak, Ye Rongxu beside him said, “No need.”
“You go back first; don’t wait for me,” Ye Rongxu said, then walked slowly towards the podium, as if under a dark cloud.
The students around the podium had already been dismissed by Qin Chaoyan. Seeing Ye Rongxu approach, he picked up the USB drive, textbook, and lesson plan. After careful consideration, he finally placed the few thin pages of the lesson plan into Ye Rongxu’s hand, saying, “Help me hold these.”
Xiao Pang, who was frozen in place, was even more dumbfounded. It was just a few pages of paper clipped in a folder; why would someone need help carrying it? This student, who was called a teacher but was actually a senior, couldn’t be intentionally keeping his roommate behind to get closer, could he?
It wasn’t impossible, after all; his roommate’s good looks were undeniable. Since enrolling, he had been approached by many. However, his roommate never paid attention and always emphasized that he had a boyfriend.
But a public display of using official business for private gain, like this senior was doing, was truly rare.
Thinking this, and then looking at the senior’s gaze towards his roommate, it suddenly, perhaps, indeed had a hidden meaning.
Xiao Pang couldn’t help but worry about his roommate and anxiously sent a message to Ye Rongxu: Rongxu, be careful! Something’s off about that senior’s gaze towards you. If he dares to lay a hand on you, shout for help immediately; no, call me right away.
Ye Rongxu held the documents and textbook, cradling his phone with both hands, and walked behind Qin Chaoyan, reading the message as he walked.
When he saw Xiao Pang’s message about Qin Chaoyan’s gaze being off and possibly having ill intentions, he couldn’t help but curve his lips slightly and replied: It’s fine; I know him…
Before he could finish typing, the person walking ahead suddenly stopped.
Ye Rongxu didn’t notice and bumped right into the other’s back, his nose instantly stinging.
Qin Chaoyan turned almost simultaneously, pulling him into his arms, chuckling muffledly, “Why are you so clumsy?”
A familiar scent enveloped him as Ye Rongxu was embraced in Qin Chaoyan’s slightly warm arms. Coming back to his senses, he looked up to glare at him, then realized something and tried to struggle again.
Qin Chaoyan held him tighter and said, “It’s okay; this is a blind spot for cameras, no one will come.”
Only then did Ye Rongxu stop struggling. He looked around and realized that without noticing, he had followed Qin Chaoyan to a secluded part of the hallway.
He looked up at Qin Chaoyan’s burning gaze, his dark eyes truly fulfilling Xiao Pang’s words: “might have ill intentions.”
“What are you doing?” Ye Rongxu’s neck was a little tired from looking up, so he changed to eye level, staring at the other’s well-defined jawline.
Qin Chaoyan loosened his embrace slightly, took the textbook and documents from his arms, and couldn’t resist leaning down to kiss his forehead, saying in a husky voice, “I was worried about you.”
Ye Rongxu found it strange: “But I’m fine.”
Qin Chaoyan: “Then why did you suddenly move back to the dorm?”
Ye Rongxu choked, glaring at him: Why, don’t you know in your heart?
Qin Chaoyan sighed, drawing him closer to coax him: “Is your waist still sore? Are you uncomfortable? How about we go back to our place? I’ll give you a massage…”
“No.” Ye Rongxu immediately shook his head, his tone firm: “I’ll be staying in the dorm these few days.”
After saying that, he looked up and saw Qin Chaoyan looking dejected. His heart softened, and he said dryly, “I need to focus on my studies recently, and there’s a comic convention in a few days. I also have a signing event to attend.”
So, he really couldn’t continue messing around with Qin Chaoyan; his body couldn’t take it.
Qin Chaoyan knew that he was now a somewhat well-known “content creator” on Weibo. Besides drawing fan art, he also had original art collections. Qin Chaoyan even had a spare account to secretly follow him. Being a small fan himself, he also knew about this upcoming signing event at the comic convention. The main reason was that Ye Rongxu didn’t plan to pursue these activities after graduating from university and wanted to give back to his fans before graduation.
After all, even old ACG fans grow up.
But putting aside all the reasons, the root cause was still wanting to avoid him. It seemed he had truly overdone it this time. Qin Chaoyan reflected deeply, deciding that in the future, he needed to eat smaller, more frequent meals, not too much or for too long at once. Otherwise, the consequence would be… his wife getting scared away, and no more food next time.
Coaxing someone back was a skill, so Qin Chaoyan could only subtly retreat for now, changing his words: “Then how about we have lunch together?”
Ye Rongxu hesitated for two seconds, then indeed nodded and said, “Okay.”
The two walked out of the corner together. Ye Rongxu quickly put on his mask and the hood of his down jacket, covering himself so that only his ink-jade-like eyes were visible.
Qin Chaoyan was helpless: “Are we that scandalous?”
Ye Rongxu glanced at him, annoyed: “It was fine when you weren’t teaching; at most, it was a senior-junior relationship. But today you came to teach, so there’s a suspicion of a teacher-student relationship, and it wouldn’t be good if people found out.”
“Before that, you didn’t even introduce me to your roommate,” Qin Chaoyan said faintly. “We’re even legally married; you’re basically in a secret marriage.”
Ye Rongxu: “…” That’s kind of true.
But he wasn’t intentionally hiding it. Qin Chaoyan enrolled as an in-service postgraduate student at their school in his sophomore year. Initially, he was busy with company matters and couldn’t come to school often. It wasn’t until the second semester of his junior year that he had time to come frequently.
However, at the beginning of his junior year, the other party coaxed him to move out of the dorm and live together, so they didn’t actually see each other often at school.
If they rarely saw each other, how was he supposed to introduce him? He couldn’t just tell everyone he met that he was married and to whom.
Of course, later, after knowing that Qin Chaoyan’s supervisor was also his minor’s specialized course teacher, he did intentionally keep it a secret, mainly because he was embarrassed.
Qin Chaoyan pulled him into the car. As he leaned over to help him buckle his seatbelt, he deliberately displayed the ring on his hand and said wistfully, “I’ve always worn our engagement ring.”
After speaking, he glanced at Ye Rongxu’s long, fair fingers, which wore nothing, clearly implying: You haven’t worn yours.
Ye Rongxu’s face darkened. He reached up to his neck, quickly pulled out a thin red string, from which hung a ring, and showed it to him: “Who said I didn’t wear it?”
After showing it, he put the ring back, patted his chest, and thought: I wear it in my heart.
Qin Chaoyan’s expression immediately brightened. He kissed him on the lips and started the car.
The two had lunch together at a high-end restaurant near the school where Qin Chaoyan had reserved a private room in advance.
After lunch, Ye Rongxu prepared to return to the dorm. Before leaving, he suddenly remembered something and messaged Xiao Pang on WeChat: Have you had lunch?
Xiao Pang replied instantly: No, I’m just about to go queue at the cafeteria.
Then he asked with concern: Are you okay? Did that senior do anything?
Ye Rongxu recalled his morning’s good intentions and typed a reply: I’m fine. Also, don’t go queue. I’ll bring some food back for you.
Qin Chaoyan saw it from the corner of his eye and suddenly said, “Are you very close with your roommate?”
Ye Rongxu was still typing and casually hummed, “It’s alright.”
Qin Chaoyan paused, then asked, “I saw you two talking together quite often during class.”
Ye Rongxu: “…”
He finally realized something was off and looked up in surprise. No way, he’s even jealous of his roommate?
“He wants to intern at your Rongchao company. I was just helping him understand the situation, analyze it, and give him some suggestions. That’s all we talked about.”
Ye Rongxu explained, then raised an eyebrow at Qin Chaoyan, his meaning clear: Anything else you want to ask?
Qin Chaoyan cleared his throat: “That’s not what I meant.”
He paused, then asked, “Your other roommates have all gone for internships, so only he’s left in the dorm?”
“That’s right,” Ye Rongxu nodded.
Qin Chaoyan looked thoughtful. Although Xuxu’s health had improved over the years, it was only in comparison to his former self. Compared to a normal person, he was still a bit frail and not suitable for living alone.
If Rongchao were to hire this Xiao Pang and then transfer him to the head office in Jiangcheng for an internship, then only Xuxu would be left in the dorm. He could then use the reason that living alone isn’t safe to persuade Xuxu to come back and live with him.
“What are you thinking?” Ye Rongxu suddenly leaned closer, his glass-like eyes curiously looking at him, saying, “When you make that expression, it feels like you’re not thinking about anything good.”
Qin Chaoyan: “…” Better not do it. It wouldn’t be good if Xuxu found out.
