Chapter 26 – Paper Man 25
Su Tang ran according to the system’s directions. Midway through his sprint, he felt something was off—had he forgotten something?
Inside the abandoned warehouse, the male lead Luo Chen lay crumpled in a corner like a rag doll, his face bruised and swollen, looking pitifully ugly.
After a long moment, Su Tang’s mind flashed with realization—he’d forgotten about the male lead. But compared to saving Luo Yuan, did the male lead matter? The answer was obvious: a thousand or ten thousand male leads couldn’t compare to a single finger of Luo Yuan’s.
Yes, Su Tang’s heart was that biased.
Besides, what kind of trash was this male lead? He’d even planned to kidnap Su Tang. Su Tang wasn’t that magnanimous to repay evil with kindness. The male lead should be grateful that Su Tang had accidentally forgotten about him. Otherwise, forget saving him—Su Tang would’ve beaten him black and blue with his own bare hands.
Only after running a considerable distance did Su Tang finally approach Luo Yuan.
However, when he saw Luo Yuan, Scarface—the ringleader of the kidnappers—was also nearby, gun in hand, ready to kill him.
In typical TV dramas, during such critical moments, someone would always throw themselves forward to block the bullet.
Su Tang witnessed this scene and realized Luo Yuan might be killed. His mind went blank, leaving no time to think. His body uncontrollably rushed forward at full speed, but perhaps due to excessive haste and his half-vampire abilities being unstable, just as he was about to reach the kidnapper leader, Su Tang tripped. Stumbling forward, he desperately pushed the kidnapper leader away…
The kidnapper leader, completely focused on the assassination and utterly unprepared, was sent flying as if struck by a cannonball. He lost his sense of balance for two seconds before crashing into a tree trunk. Every organ—heart, liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys—hurt beyond measure. It felt like all his bones had broken. A mouthful of blood surged up his throat, spraying out before his head slumped sideways in complete unconsciousness.
Su Tang: “……???”
Wait, where’s the guy?
Su Tang sat dumbly on the ground, looking around in confusion. Finally spotting the “corpse” of the seemingly dead kidnapper leader, he was shocked.
Did I do this?
I just tripped, that’s all!
I hadn’t even really started showing off my divine might yet. How did it end so quickly?
In his confusion, there was also a hint of lingering regret and disappointment.
Luo Yuan, standing several meters away, heard the commotion and turned to look. Initially bewildered, he recognized Su Tang sitting on the ground and immediately rushed over. He anxiously scanned Su Tang from head to toe, asking, “Tangtang, are you hurt anywhere? Did the kidnappers abuse you? Don’t be afraid, I’ll make sure those bastards pay.”
Luo Yuan’s voice was gentle and comforting, but his face was as cold as ice, radiating a murderous aura that made him look like a terrifying demon.
The police who had been hiding in the shadows to protect Luo Yuan also emerged. Some checked the condition of the kidnapped gang leader who had fainted under the tree, while two officers came to examine Su Tang for injuries and escorted them to a safe location.
The police asked Su Tang various questions about the number of kidnappers, the condition of others who were kidnapped with him, and where they were held captive. This information would help them plan more effective rescue operations.
Su Tang obediently answered every question, including Luo Chen’s original plan to kidnap him. The police looked at him with strange expressions, not expecting the one they came to rescue to be a criminal himself. Even so, they still had to save him as part of their duty.
Luo Yuan’s attitude stood in stark contrast to the others. Having barely escaped himself, Su Tang was convinced he’d been traumatized. The police kept asking questions, forcing him to relive the ordeal. What if this left psychological scars, even leading to post-traumatic stress disorder?
The officer pressed on, “According to your account, there are two more kidnappers. The hostages in the warehouse might be in danger. Could you guide us there? We’ll ensure your safety.”
Before Su Tang could respond, Luo Yuan—still tending to his wounds—stiffened. His reaction was immediate and vehement, “Absolutely not! It’s too dangerous. He can’t go!”
Luo Yuan had never favored his illegitimate younger brother. Learning of his attempt to kidnap Su Tang only deepened his loathing. Why would he care about Luo Chen’s fate? If that scum was in danger, Su Tang shouldn’t risk himself for such trash.
Luo Yuan’s expression darkened further at the police suggestion. His tone turned confrontational, “Officer, look at him! His face is pale from terror. After being brutally abused by those kidnappers, with such severe injuries, how could you possibly ask him to return?”
The officer glanced at Su Tang’s flushed face and noted only minor scrapes from his earlier fall. He couldn’t see any serious injuries—were they all internal?
Hearing this, Su Tang himself felt embarrassed. The tips of his ears, peeking out from beneath his small curls, turned red. He cleared his throat and told the police, “There’s only one kidnapper left. I knocked out the guard; he won’t wake up anytime soon. I remember the warehouse’s location perfectly; I can tell you exactly where it is.”
As he spoke, he provided the police with an incredibly precise location, surprising them greatly. They immediately contacted the search teams and rushed toward that spot.
The police hadn’t even made a move, yet two of the three kidnappers had already been subdued—by a seemingly frail and scholarly-looking young man. How could this not astonish them?
After hearing about the kidnapper leader’s injuries—internal bleeding and multiple fractures—the police officer’s expression grew even more complex. He stared at Su Tang with disbelief, “You… have such natural strength?”
They had just witnessed it themselves. This slender youth had merely “lightly” pushed someone, sending them flying across the room.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Su Tang lowered his head, his face flushing. “I suppose so… My strength is a bit unusual.”
A bit unusual?!
This puts you on par with world-class heavyweight boxers! And you don’t even have any muscles!
He’d been a cop for over two decades, having seen all sorts of people. But he’d never encountered anyone this peculiar—practically saving himself and stealing their job in the process. The location he’d provided wasn’t just random talk either; fully armed police quickly found the warehouse, rescued Luo Chen from near-certain death at the kidnappers’ hands, and began wrapping up the operation.
This mission had been all shock with no real danger—an unbelievably smooth operation. Not a single person was injured, not even slightly. This despite the criminals being armed with guns.
The most challenging part was probably prying the person embedded in the warehouse wall. Even after removing them, a clear human-shaped indentation remained. According to colleagues who returned from the scene, several officers had struggled to suppress their laughter.
These were all highly trained professionals; they generally didn’t laugh unless they couldn’t help it.
After being rescued, Luo Chen was immediately taken to the hospital. Luo Father arrived late and, upon seeing his son’s disfigured face on the bed, questioned whether this was really his son, suggesting the police might have made a mistake.
The police insisted they hadn’t made a mistake—that this was indeed his son.
Though he’d had a heated argument with his son, Luo Father couldn’t help but feel pained. He secretly blamed the police for their incompetence in letting his son get injured so badly. Will this leave any permanent damage?
The doctor mentioned the patient’s leg injury was severe, possibly leading to a limp. A flicker of disdain crossed Luo Father’s eyes. The reason was simple—he couldn’t accept a disabled heir. It would be bad for the company’s image.
Then the police’s next words hit even harder. “After treatment, Luo Chen will need to come with us to the police station. He’s suspected of involvement in a kidnapping case.”
Luo Father exploded in anger. “What do you mean? Are you calling my son a criminal?! He was kidnapped—he’s the victim!”
The old police officer’s face remained impassive as he said slowly, “No, the situation is a bit more complicated. Your son first tried to hire someone to kidnap Su Tang, but the kidnapper used that against him. The kidnapper’s goal was to take revenge on the Luo family. If we’re talking about victims, Su Tang is the most innocent one here.”
The police had no reason to smear Luo Chen, so what they said must be true.
Hearing this, Luo Father’s face turned pale with shock. His body swayed unsteadily as he couldn’t believe his son would do such a stupid thing. Not only did he do it, but he was also foolish enough to get caught and leave evidence behind.
At that moment, Luo Chen slowly regained consciousness. He forced his eyes open and rasped, “Water…”
The only family member present, his birth father, upon hearing his voice, showed no joy whatsoever. Instead of rushing to help him drink water or tend to his injuries, he flew into a rage and slapped his son across the face. “You wretched son!”
Luo Chen’s mother, who had hurried to the hospital, witnessed her husband abusing their severely injured son as she entered the ward. She nearly fainted on the spot. Rushing forward, she screeched, “My son is already injured like this, and you’re hitting him? Have you no heart?! If you must strike someone, hit me! Just kill me already!”
The scene descended into utter chaos.
Several police officers exchanged glances before quietly retreating outside the ward.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Luo Yuan’s group maintained a completely different atmosphere—no clamor, only an excessive calmness that bordered on surreal, as if they were at a retirement home.
Though Su Tang possessed strength enough to send a kidnapper flying with a single punch, leaving him unscathed, in Luo Yuan’s eyes, he appeared as delicate as a porcelain doll that might shatter with a touch, as if he’d suffered some tremendous injury and grievance.
After bringing Su Tang home, Luo Yuan immediately ordered the chef to prepare a large spread of Su Tang’s favorite dishes.
“Tangtang must be hungry,” Luo Yuan said. “Eat plenty.”
“…I’m not hungry,” Su Tang replied.
Not only wasn’t he hungry, he was actually quite full. After all, while being held hostage, he’d eaten two boxes of fried chicken rice and three packets of biscuits. Who would believe that?
Unaware of Su Tang’s true state, Luo Yuan’s face filled with concern as he piled a full bowl of meat onto his plate. “No,” he insisted, “you must be hungry. Eat quickly.”
Bearing the weight of this mountain-like affection, Su Tang slowly chewed his food, muttering under his breath, “This feels like something I’ve seen before—the grandmother who thinks you’re starving.”
Luo Yuan didn’t catch his words. “Tangtang, what did you say?” he asked. “Not enough food?”
As he spoke, he made to add more food to Su Tang’s bowl.
Startled, Su Tang hastily covered his plate with both hands, practically shielding it like a mother hen protecting her chicks. “No need!” he blurted out. “I have enough! Really!”
If I eat any more, I’ll throw up!
