Chapter 4—Paper Man 3
Su Tang received a system notification, informing him that Luo Yuan had gone to the courtyard to plant star grass and care for him. He was quite surprised by this; after all, based on the storylines he’d observed, Luo Yuan’s character profile seemed utterly incompatible with playing romantic simulation games. Yet here he was, not only playing but doing so with surprising dedication.
So the storylines aren’t actually that accurate? Su Tang mused. There’s a discrepancy between what was shown and reality?
He filed this curiosity away in his mind.
Regardless, being tended to by a tycoon felt undeniably satisfying. Especially since Su Tang’s initial impression of Luo Yuan had been rather unfavorable—seeing him work so diligently only made the situation more amusing.
Su Tang watched from the windowsill. In the courtyard, a stick figure diligently pulled weeds, creating a small pile of vegetation beside the soil.
Is this stick figure supposed to represent player Luo Yuan?
The sight struck Su Tang as comical. After a moment’s consideration, he climbed out the window—his short legs making the maneuver clumsy and awkward. Once in the courtyard, he bounced eagerly over to the patch of soil where Luo Yuan was working.
By this time, Luo Yuan had finished weeding and was beginning to plant seeds.
Naturally, Luo Yuan noticed the little figure running toward him. The child’s short arms and legs moved in a comical rhythm, soft curls clinging to his flushed cheeks in an endearing display.
He thought the little guy was being considerate, coming over to help. But when the small fellow reached him, he stopped and smiled brightly like a little sun. Then a small bubble appeared above his head, saying, “Go, master!”
All encouragement, no action.
Su Tang wasn’t stupid. For Luo Yuan, playing games meant just tapping a few buttons—easy. But for him, as a character within the game, removing weeds and sowing seeds meant real labor—exhausting work.
Luo Yuan: “……”
This time, Luo Yuan didn’t need the narration’s reminder to guess what Su Tang was thinking. He hadn’t realized his little lover was so pampered.
However, watching the affection points slowly pop up above the little guy’s head (+1, +1, +1…) made him not feel impatient at all.
After planting the seeds, Luo Yuan returned to the house, once again facing Su Tang’s messy room with a frown.
Earlier, he hadn’t planned to play the game properly and had been too lazy to care. But now that he’d decided to thoroughly research it… Without a word, Luo Yuan immediately tidied the room. Only when everything became neat and orderly did Luo Yuan’s frown finally smooth out.
Next, Luo Yuan specifically checked for conversation options. Beside the progress bar, there was an interaction button with several choices: Talk, Handhold, Hug, Kiss.
The last two were grayed out, indicating they required sufficient affection points to unlock. Beneath the Handhold option, small text warned that his current lover affection level was too low, suggesting against initiating handholding lest it provoke his lover’s displeasure.
Luo Yuan understood these mechanics but remained indifferent, his face impassive. He had no interest whatsoever in hugging or kissing some paper-thin character.
Finally, Luo Yuan selected the first option—his true objective—the conversation function. A text input box popped up on the screen, allowing his typed words to reach the paper-thin character.
Luo Yuan spoke with deliberate seriousness, “Maintain proper hygiene and cleanliness. Your room is too disorganized.”
Su Tang… once again flashed his charming smile, nodding obediently. “Yes, master.”
[ Su Tang: Tsk. ]
[ Su Tang is too lazy to acknowledge you. ]
[ Su Tang believes this is his room, and he can do as he pleases. Cleaning it would only make him lose things. ]
Luo Yuan: “…”
It must be said, this paper-thin character was remarkably lively and distinctive, even downright annoying. Could such a thing truly keep players engaged?
Mr. Luo felt this game wasn’t particularly well-designed.
Yet strangely, he couldn’t help but keep playing.
Luo Yuan glanced at the unfinished documents on his desk, checked the time, and decisively exited the game, tossing his phone aside.
In the small room, the Q-version Su Tang hugged his short arms and asked the system, “Is he gone?”
After receiving confirmation, Su Tang immediately collapsed onto the bed like an office worker after work, sprawled lazily. He rolled over twice, his short legs kicking unceremoniously, quickly turning the neatly made bed—just organized by Mr. Snail—into a disheveled mess.
Grabbing one edge of the quilt, Su Tang rolled and rolled until he was wrapped like a seaweed roll. He sang off-key nursery rhymes with abandon, then jumped to the floor. He pulled out the beanbag pillow Luo Yuan had stored in the cabinet, along with squid jerky, broad beans, and other snacks, scattering them across the floor. With a precise leap, he landed squarely on the beanbag, legs crossed as he happily played games and munched on snacks.
Before long, the once tidy room had reverted to its characteristically messy state, enough to drive any perfectionist mad. But Su Tang himself was thoroughly satisfied—this was exactly how his little den should look.
Playing the game, the situation wasn’t particularly tense. Su Tang even took the time to complain to the system, “Listen, that Luo Yuan guy is seriously a freak. If it wasn’t for you being so cute, I’d never pay him any attention.”
The system was delighted, responding with a hint of shyness, “Thank you. You’re even cuter…”
Su Tang didn’t deny it. His appearance had always been quite good, and the Q-version three-head-body style made him irresistibly adorable. He wouldn’t be so hypocritical as to claim he wasn’t cute, unless he’d gone blind.
“I kept my promise, didn’t I? Look, I interacted properly with him, treating him like a respected superior. So… how many points do I get this time?”
The system hurriedly checked the statistics, “This interaction earned you 5 points. The task progress is now 1/100 complete—a great start! Host, you’re truly amazing. Luo Yuan’s personality is notoriously difficult to handle. I could only install the app, but he stayed because of you.”
Though Su Tang wasn’t interested in the task, no one can resist being showered with flattery. He felt pleased by the compliment, “Hearing you say that, Luo Yuan isn’t so unbearable after all. Who can blame him? He’s the boss who decides my salary.”
The system recognized his intention to complete tasks properly and was overjoyed. It hastily said, “Two points for a lottery draw! I really like you, host. Here’s an extra point to make it three draws in a row. Want to draw now?”
Su Tang’s interest was immediately piqued. “Sure.”
The lottery pool manifested as a miniature fountain. At its center, a vibrant red koi fish leaped exuberantly, its movements casting shimmering golden ripples across the water’s surface.
When Su Tang nodded to draw, the miniature fountain materialized before him. The tranquil water began to ripple as if stirred by invisible hands. Soon, three small whirlpools emerged, each lifting a glowing orb that flew toward Su Tang and settled in his palm.
As the light dissipated, the contents revealed themselves.
Two were unfamiliar snacks, while the third was… a Lolita-style dress.
Su Tang: “……”
The system exclaimed in delight, “Host! You’re a true lottery king! Isn’t this dress absolutely stunning?!”
Su Tang smiled, “Stunning it may be, but haven’t you forgotten I’m a man?”
The system was puzzled. “What’s wrong with men? Can’t they wear dresses? Don’t men enjoy them too?”
Su Tang replied, “You’re talking about a cross-dresser, but I have no interest in wearing women’s clothes.”
The system sounded disappointed. “Is that so? Host, do you truly dislike it? This dress is so beautiful—with its ornate pattern, exquisite lace edges, and those intricate princess sleeves! Not to mention the delicate floral butterfly bow!” It couldn’t wait to see the host wear it!
“…I’ll pass, thanks,” Su Tang said.
Unable to persuade him, the system watched helplessly as Su Tang tossed the dress into a corner of the wardrobe, where it would gather dust. Internally, it whimpered.
Meanwhile, Su Tang was thoroughly enjoying the snacks he’d won from the lottery. They were delicious—he even licked his fingers clean after finishing them.
Author’s Note:
Luo Yuan: “Women’s clothing play? I love that too.”
Su Tang: “Get lost.”
