Chapter 037: “Childish Ghost” (09/10)
The photos of Xie Chenyang and Wei Xiu kissing had all but disappeared. You Huang stated that it was all because of him.
Without Ding He as the instigator, the game company’s PR department made a great effort to do PR, and gradually, fewer people scolded Xie Chenyang for being unfilial and berating the game company.
Gradually, the crowd began to form a conspiracy theory.
In the end, who was it that led Xie’s parents to believe their son was trapped in a game, such an implausible thing?
And who was it that guided the Xie couple to cause trouble at the game company?
That was when a girl, who had already set her sights on Ding He and was ready to dig deeper into him, finally discovered a flashpoint. Ding He was a programmer for another game company!
That company happened to be a competitor of Wei Xiu’s company.
She wanted to interview Ding He, only to find out that Ding He was in the hospital.

Xie Chenyang was woken up by Wei Xiu’s ringing cell phone. Wei Xiu reached out and picked up the phone, still reclining in Xie Chenyang’s arms.
The call was from Secretary Lin. “Mr. Wei, Xiang Qu from the technical department has found another peculiar dataset in the game.”
Wei Xiu closed his eyes, his voice hoarse. “Wait until I get to the company.”
The call was hung up and Wei Xiu was thoroughly awake before realizing that it was already half past ten. He was about to rise, but Xie Chenyang reached out and tugged him back into his arms. Xie Chenyang embraced him from behind, brushing his lips against the side of his neck, his voice low. “Sleep a little longer.”
Thinking of last night’s frenzy, Wei Xiu felt his face become hot, and the back of his neck gradually burned; he slightly moved forward to avoid him. “I have to go to the company.”
“Well, in a while I’ll accompany you.”
Xie Chenyang straightened up.
Wei Xiu’s face darkened and he gritted his teeth. “Push yourself back for me.”
“It’s a normal reaction.” Xie Chenyang yawned, and the hand resting on Wei Xu’s waist traveled slightly downward. “You’re the same.”
Wei Xiu curled up his legs, which made it more convenient for Xie Chenyang.
He stayed clear and rationalized. “The company …… Um.”
Xie Chenyang bit lightly on the side of his neck, then rolled over and sucked.
Early in the morning, they had a fight.
By the time they packed up and departed, it was nearly twelve o’clock.
Xie Chenyang obediently acted as the driver while Wei Xiu sat in the passenger seat with a soft cushion underneath him, expressionless as he nibbled on toast and drank milk.
Xie Chenyang swallowed. “It’s almost twelve o’clock. The employees are getting off work, right? Why don’t we go eat first and then go to the office this afternoon?”
Wei Xiu: “No.”
Xie Chenyang: “Then, can you give me some milk to pad my stomach, too?”
Wei Xiu snorted coldly.
While at a red light, Xie Chenyang came to a stop. After looking at the number of seconds left, he leaned over and grabbed the milk that Wei Xiu drank half of, biting the straw and finished it in one breath.
You Huang could not bear to watch. “I think he would certainly have given you a drink if you asked politely.” Rather than you just grabbing it.
Wei Xiu’s hand that held his toast tightened, and the toast was pinched until it deformed.
Xie Chenyang licked his lips, then reached out and fished Wei Xiu over for a light kiss. “Good boy, open a new box for yourself, and I’ll order you something tasty when we get to the office.”
Seeing that Wei Xiu was getting angry, Xie Chenyang quickly let go of him. With a steady grip on the steering wheel and only two seconds left on the red light, he seriously said, “Don’t make a scene. Sit properly, I’m driving.”
Wei Xiu: “Xie Yunyao, you’re so childish!”
Xie Chenyang happily said, “I’m only childish in front of you.”
Wei Xiu grimly gnawed through the toast in a couple of seconds.
You Huang: “…… I think you will definitely lose him sooner or later.”
[What nonsense.]
You Huang: “Why are you robbing someone’s food?”
[Wanted to drink.]
You Huang: “If you want to drink, why didn’t you grab a new box? The one that can be obtained by reaching out? Obviously Wei Xiu deliberately put it there for you!”
Xie Chenyang glanced from the corner of his eye and saw Wei Xiu’s gloomy face, and dejectedly said: [I thought I’d tease him since he seemed unhappy.]
“You’re fucking teasing? You’re adding fuel to the fire!”
You Huang was practically bursting at the seams with worry for this host. “Tossing people around in the morning, and then robbing them of their food? Is this something a human should do?”[mfn]人干事 Renganshi is the abbreviation of “Is this something a human should do?”. Xie Chenyang parked the car, unbuckled his seat belt, then went over to hug Wei Xiu, his voice deliberately softened. “Ah Xiu, I’m sorry, don’t be angry.”
Wei Xiu lightly patted his back. “Get out of the car.”
The two left the car and walked towards the company together.
Xie Chenyang followed behind him obediently, whispering, “I know I was wrong. I’ll never grab food from you again. I just had a momentary brain fart.”
Of course he knew that he could have opened a new box, ah.
But seeing Wei Xiu’s cold face drinking milk, he grabbed it on impulse. He honestly said, “I felt that the one you drank would be better.”
Wei Xiu sighed lightly. “I’m not angry.”
Not only was he not angry, but he even felt a little amused.
Xie Chenyang said smugly: [See, I knew he wouldn’t be angry with me.]
Anyway, having already gone public, Xie Chenyang didn’t hesitate at all, holding Wei Xiu’s hand and walking towards the company’s main entrance.
As it was now noon, there were quite a few people coming and going from the main entrance.
Xie Chenyang sensed something was wrong right before he could even speak.
A man walking towards them suddenly pulled out a fruit knife and tried to stab Wei Xiu.
Xie Chenyang reacted incredibly fast by grabbing the man’s wrist. With one blow, the fruit knife fell out of the man’s hand and dropped to the ground.
Almost as soon as Xie Chenyang caught hold of his hand, the man quickly pulled out another fruit knife at the same time and tried stabbing Wei Xiu again.
Xie Chenyang was already holding Wei Xiu back with one hand and using the other to get the knife out of the man’s grasp. It was too late for him to do the same thing, so he directly reached out and grabbed the knife before kicking the man flying.
The man’s grip on the knife was tight; even though Xie Chenyang had let go when he kicked him away, his palm was inevitably cut and blood flowed out.
“Ah Yao!”
The security guard at the main entrance had reacted and rushed over, restraining the man who had fallen to the ground.
The man, who was late middle age, glared at Wei Xiu with a twisted expression of hatred. “My son has become a vegetable again! He must’ve been trapped by your game again! Release my son!”
Wei Xiu didn’t give him a second look; tearing off a sleeve with force, he wrapped it around Xie Chenyang’s hand with a taut face. “I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Xie Chenyang: “There’s a clinic right across the street.”
Xie Chenyang’s hand was not seriously injured. He was very precise in the force he used. He was able to grab the knife without hurting his tendons and bones, and he let go in a timely manner, so it was just a flesh wound.
The blood flow just looked intimidating.
When Xie Chenyang’s hand was wrapped in a layer of gauze, he followed Wei Xiu back to the company.
You Huang: “That man is Ding He’s father.”
[Ah Huang, help me split a strand of Ding He’s data and stuff it back into his body.]
You Huang: “Okay.”
Ding He’s father was taken away by the police, but still with the intent of building a solid case.
The small-time female reporter also happened to find Ding He’s hospital and witnessed his “awakening”.
Ding He was formerly a vegetative patient who woke up a short time ago. The miracle was that he suddenly fell into a deep sleep for unknown reasons and woke up again, but he didn’t know anything anymore and was just like a child with slow reactions.
The reporter saw Ding He sitting on the bed with his eyes open. His eyes were dull, and he didn’t recognize anything other than being awake. He didn’t speak, he never ate, he never dressed, he didn’t respond to the outside world.
Mother Ding was so sad that she was unable to help.
The reporter had no hope of getting any information from Ding He, nor could she know whether or not he had egged on Xie’s parents. She couldn’t help but only speculate in her mind: could it be that during the days when Ding He became a vegetable, his consciousness was also trapped in the game and met Xie Yunyao who was also trapped? After escaping and trying to free Xie Yunyao, he somehow experienced after-effects and suddenly turned dumb?
This guess had barely bubbled to the surface before she dismissed it.
Haha, getting stuck in a game or whatever, how could that be possible?
Despite this, she quietly registered a game account and started playing.
Meanwhile, Xie Chenyang and Wei Xiu stood in the company’s technical department.
Xiang Qu said with a headache, “The boss of Mirror Flower Forest, Old One–the data of one of his IDs has changed. It’s very similar to what happened to Mr. Xie before, but the data is much stronger than Mr. Xie.”
Wei Xiu: “You guys go out to eat first.”
Xiang Qu didn’t hesitate and called a few of the technicians who still remained in the office to leave the technical department together.
Wei Xiu looked at Xie Chenyang. “You actually know Ding He, right?”
Xie Chenyang: “…… Yeah.”
“Met in the game?” Wei Xiu approached Xie Chenyang, his voice slightly cold. “The boss of Mirror Flower Forest, Old One, is him, right?”
Xie Chenyang: “Uh, listen to me ……”
“So what he said before was true? You guys were really together? Falling in love in the game?” Wei Xiu grabbed his collar “You and him–”
“Absolutely not!” Xie Chenyang raised his hand and swore, “I’ve never been with him!” The one who was with him was Xie Yunyao, not him.
Wei Xiu stared intently into Xie Chenyang’s eyes, discerning his expression.
Xie Chenyang: “Really! How could I possibly look at that kind of trash? The only person I love from the beginning to the end is you.”
Wei Xiu slowly loosened his hand. “Then why did you pretend you didn’t recognize him at the hospital?”
Xie Chenyang reached out to hug him, aggravated. “He cheated me out of my data stream and ran away from the game himself, causing me to almost disappear. I didn’t want to cross paths with him again.”
Wei Xiu closed his eyes. “He went inside the game again ……”
Xie Chenyang shouted. “It has nothing to do with me!” It was all You Huang’s doing!
You Huang: “You are getting really good at lying.”
[I’m not! I didn’t! I just ripped his soul out! It was you, Ah-Huang, who put him in the game!]
Wei Xiu reached out and hugged Xie Chenyang back; his heart fluttered in a hundred directions.
Xie Chenyang obediently hugged him.
“Ah Xiu, I’m hungry.”
It was already one o’clock, right? And they hadn’t even eaten breakfast or lunch!
Wei Xiu let go of him. “Order takeout or go out to eat?”
“Go downstairs and eat.”
Ten minutes later, they sat downstairs at a traditional Chinese restaurant.
Xie Chenyang saw Wei Xiu pick up his chopsticks and coughed lightly, raising his wrapped hand. “My hand is injured. Can you feed me?”
Wei Xiu didn’t raise his head. “You hurt your left hand.”
[He doesn’t……]
You Huang: “Yes, he doesn’t love you anymore, so break up.”
Xie Chenyang sighed and picked up his chopsticks, suffering to eat by himself.
A piece of ribs was brought to his mouth by a pair of chopsticks. Wei Xiu’s cool eyebrows held helplessness. “Eat it.”
Xie Chenyang happily bit into it, his eyebrows raising.
Wei Xiu wanted to grab another one, but Xie Chenyang shook his head. “No need, I’m just being a bit naughty. I know you’re hungry too, so let’s eat one each!”
Wei Xiu ate while thinking about how to solve the matter of Ding He in his company’s game.
Xie Chenyang, on the other hand, was thinking about how to lock up Ding He.
Alas, how could he let the technical department find out about Ding He?
